Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Return of the Kaiser ❯ A New Enemy ( Chapter 5 )
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon or any of the characters thus associated with it. Raven and the storyline, however, are both mine.
Kagome: All right. We're going to do chapter five now.
Raven: *pouts* Mou! But she's not putting a lemon in here.
Kagome: No, I'm not. I've written five chapters and only gotten two reviews. I'm not gonna write a lemon for an audience I don't have. *grins* Besides, if I did write a lemon, I'd have to change the rating.
Raven: ………………………
Kagome: That's what I thought.
Raven: *sigh* Then I guess I won't give you any more ideas. *sniff*
Kagome: *laughs loudly* That's fine. You don't give me ideas, I don't keep you. I have an application already from someone named………Nathaniel, so there!
Raven: You don't! You wouldn't!
Kagome: ………………………
Raven: Noooooooo! *horrified expression*
Kagome: Then play nice.
Raven: *sniffle* All right. Here's chapter five.
Chapter Five: A New Enemy
Taichi sighed. He was bored. Bored, bored, bored! There was nothing for him to do, and lying about in a fortress all day was not his idea of fun. Sure, he could roam the Digital World, but even that got boring after a while.
Besides, he thought, looking over at his violet-eyed boyfriend, he didn't want to leave the boy alone for too long. He was afraid that if he left for any extended period of time, the boy would sink into depression again and become the Digimon Kaiser in truth.
Ken, for the most part, kept to himself during the day. He sought comfort in the touch of both Wormmon and Taichi, but other than that, he simply watched over the Digital World via the screens in his control room, seeking for the danger that the Darkness had warned him of.
He hadn't seen or felt any significant amount of evil since he resumed the throne. He had remained in his castle, venturing out only at night, when most digimon were asleep and wouldn't see him wandering about in his Kaiser outfit.
Suddenly, Ken let out a pleased exclamation, and leaned forward in his throne. His companion, noticing the excited expression on the Kaiser's face, wandered over to the throne and followed his boyfriend's line of vision.
All he saw were two blinking lights in the corner of one of the screens, a blue one and a pink one. Puzzled, he gazed at Ken, silently requesting an explanation.
Ken just looked at him and grinned. "Those colored lights are the Chosen," he explained. "The blue light is Daisuke, and the pink light is Hikari."
At the mention of his little sister, Tai's entire expression lit up. "Are they coming here?" he asked. At Ken's amused confirmation, he paused, puzzled again. "Why are they alone?" he demanded.
Ken grinned and rolled his eyes. He had made sure that he didn't hide his emotions from Taichi or any of the digimon he did happen to meet, being sure to remain as Ken. "They're coming alone because that's what we asked Dai to do. If he brings one at a time, we can explain a little better."
Tai nodded his understanding. "Okay, I can understand that. Why'd he bring Kari first, though?" Then realization dawned and he answered his own question, "Dai's bringing the ones he thinks will be most likely to listen to us first, that way he has support for when he gets to the more stubborn ones." Ken just nodded and confirmed his insight.
Riding Raidramon, Daisuke and Hikari soon reached the base. Seeing it, Kari started and glared at Daisuke, apparently demanding an immediate explanation. The cinnamon-haired boy just laughed and told her not to worry, and to trust him. Still doubtful, Kari remained on Raidramon's back and allowed herself to be brought into the castle.
As had occurred last time, Agumon and Wormmon guided the two children straight to the throne room. The first person Hikari saw was her older brother.
"Niisan?!" she cried, amazed. Taichi just grinned at his little sister and enveloped her in a hug. "I've missed you," he stated, releasing her from the embrace.
Then Hikari caught sight of the Kaiser, who was leaning against a wall and observing with an amused smirk on his face. Startled, Hikari stepped protectively in front of her brother and called to Gatomon, preparing to have her Digivolve and attack.
Quicker than she could react, both her D3 and D-terminal were snatched from her hand. The bearer of light whirled around, only to come face to face with her brother, who was currently switching the D3 off.
Kari just gaped up at him, not knowing quite how to take this. Suddenly, she heard a giggle from off to her left and spun, only to find Daisuke wandering over to the Kaiser, handing him his D3 and D-terminal. Then he looked at his friend.
"It's all right," he assured her quickly. "It's just that they need to explain some things to you, and it might be better if you couldn't attack them until after they were done. You know you're brother wouldn't ever hurt you, and he wouldn't let Ken hurt you either."
The Chosen child stilled for a moment, thinking, then reluctantly nodded her agreement. Once she had calmed down, Tai and Ken both explained to her what had transpired. Then they mentioned that the evil that they were warned about had not shown up yet.
At this, Daisuke sighed, capturing everybody's attention. What they saw surprised them. The normally happy, energetic boy wore a look of intense pain and sorrow on his face, as if he had witnessed something so horrible that it tortured his very soul.
When he noticed the others gazing at him in bewilderment, he quickly slipped back into his trademark grin and made some stupid comment, decreasing the tension almost visibly in the room. Ken, however, didn't look convinced, but he didn't bring it up, which Daisuke was grateful for.
After explaining everything to Kari, she headed back for the real world, promising them her full support. Daisuke went to follow her, but Ken called him back. The younger boy trudged over to him after a few long moments of deciding whether or not bolting would accomplish anything. Apparently reaching the decision that it wouldn't help matters any, he remained behind as Kari left.
Once she was safely back in the real world, Ken and Taichi both turned towards Daisuke. "All right," began the bluenette. "What's wrong?" There was genuine concern in his voice, and Daisuke was tempted to answer, but knew that he couldn't. Not yet, at least. If he told anyone what he knew, then his entire family would be put in danger, and he couldn't risk that.
Pleading with the two older boys, he begged that they let him go, promising to tell them what was wrong as soon as he could. The two leaders really didn't want to let him go, but it was obvious to them that Dai-kun was going through some kind of emotional stress, and they decided to back off for the time being.
Grateful, Daisuke left and headed for home, leaving the two boys wondering just what could be so bad for the boy that he was in risk of an emotional breakdown.
Over the next few days, Daisuke brought all the other Digidestined to the base so that Ken and Tai could explain what was going on. Some of them were harder to convince than others, but with the support of Daisuke, Hikari, and some of the others, it all worked out. All the Digidestined promised to keep an eye out for the impending evil, and Ken promised not to go Kaiser on them again.
Each day, Daisuke had that aura of sadness around him. He hid it behind his smiles and his clumsiness, but Ken and Taichi both noticed it. However, the cinnamon-haired goggle boy obviously wasn't ready to talk about it, so they didn't prod too much.
Unfortunately, their respect for Daisuke's feelings may not have been the best idea. Two days after the last of the Digidestined had been brought to them, Ken received an e-mail from Kari stating that Daisuke had gone missing, and they couldn't locate him anywhere. She also reported that there appeared to be a new enemy in the Digital World.
Ken immediately started scanning the Digital World, seeking both Daisuke and the newest enemy. He and Tai were so absorbed in their search that they didn't notice they had company for quite a few moments, nor did they notice that Wormmon and Agumon were nowhere to be found.
"Looking for somebody?" inquired a familiar voice. Both boys jumped, eliciting laughter from the person who had spoken as they whirled around.
"Looking for me, perhaps?" grinned Daisuke. Then his expression turned serious. "You want to know about the new enemy, I'm assuming?"
Ken blinked in surprise. "You know who the enemy is?" Daisuke laughed again, but this time it was brittle, like broken glass. "Yeah, I know who the enemy is. I know how he thinks, I know his plans, I know how much danger the Digital World is in because of him." His voice was bitter and cold, no hint of the old Daisuke in there.
Both older boys were taken aback by his words. "Then who is it?" asked Taichi, breaking the silence that had descended after Dai's words left his mouth.
Daisuke sighed and looked down. When he looked up again, they noticed that agonized expression that he had shown the day he brought Kari to them. Yet underneath the sorrow was a second emotion, or perhaps it wasn't an emotion at all. Perhaps underneath the sorrow was a face devoid of expression.
"Yes," the young boy hissed. "I know who the enemy is. I see him in the mirror every day." With that, he fled, turning around and dashing down the corridors, fighting with himself to get out of the castle before he lost control and tried to kill his friends.
Yes, he still considered them friends, but already he could feel his emotions slipping away, going to feed the dark spore embedded deep within him.
It had been implanted within his body over two years ago, during that final battle with Malomyotismon. While the others had been lost in his illusion attack, the Mega digimon had infected the leader with the dark spore. Daisuke had been able to combat its effects this long because he refused to give in to negative emotions.
However, another being had recently discovered the dark spore hidden within Daisuke's body, and had sought him out. He ordered him to let the dark spore grow and take over, threatening to kill his entire family if he didn't or if he told anybody about what was happening.
Now that the dark spore had almost completely taken over, the evil being permitted Daisuke to tell the Kaiser and his companion who he was, knowing as well as Daisuke did that it would hurt all three of them more than anything else could.
Exhausted, Daisuke could no longer hold back the dark spore, and it flooded his system, washing away all his emotions as if they had never existed. Eyes cold, he stood, nothing more than an empty shell of nothingness, a tool for the dark spore that resided within him.
Kagome: Okay, now, I will be the first to admit that that didn't work out how I wanted it to at all.
Raven: *mutters* Tell me about it. This story is gonna take a while if we don't figure out how to get it back on track.
Kagome: I know. Ugh! Oh well, maybe now we can lower the rating. I don't know though, it does have boy x boy relationships in it, though, even if they're just hinted at.
Raven: Eh! The audience can judge for themselves.
Kagome: Yeah, I guess you're right. *shrugs* Well, let's see how the audience takes this chapter, ne?
Nathaniel: Excuse me, I don't mean to be rude, but do you mind if I join in?
Kagome: *grins* Oh, no, not at all. *notices muse giving Nathaniel an evil glare* Although Raven might object.
Nathaniel: *blink, blink* Oh. Well, I wouldn't want to get in the way of such a pretty muse.
Raven: Really. *bats eyelashes* Well, you seem nice enough. You can stay for a little while, let us test you out, hmm? *winks suggestively*
Kagome: *rolls eyes* Hentai.
Nathaniel: Anyhow, *being dragged out of room by Raven*
please be sure to read and review, okay?
