Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Sleeping Birdie ❯ Chapter 7
A.S.D.A
Cast Party
by Nefertanya dragongurl Ahhotep
"All right, let's get this party started!!" Tai shouted as his father succeeded in popping open the champagne.
"Not for *you,*, young man." Mrs. Kamiya chided. "Alcohol will stunt your growth."
"Aw, Mom, that's for caffeine! Can't I have one little glass?" He cast pleading eyes at his father, whose arm was drenched with bubbly.
"Well...he *did* do a great performance...."
Agumon stifled a giggle as Tai's mom glared at Tai's dad with why-are-you-always-making-me-the-bad-guy eyes. Slipping through them, he mingled through the crowd.
Ken was stuck in the middle of Yolie and Daisuke, who were heatedly arguing over whether Ken should sleep over at Daisuke's apartment or not. Poor Ken ping-ponged between them, confused as to who's side he should be on.
Ms. Takenouchi and Mrs. Tachikawa were trying to out-brag the other about their respective daughter's design capabilities. They had long since left grade school, and were now pulling up dusty memories of dress-up games barely heeded.
Mimi was dealing with the 'competition' differently-by 'convincing' Sora to design her prom dress.
"...Pink feathers on the collar, and what do you think of this-*everything gets beaded!!*"
Biyomon wasn't paying too much attention to her human's rapidly paling visage. She wasn't really in a good mood. She had a bone to pick with a particular lizard, but the bright orange dinosaur had been remarkable hard to find tonight....
Someone appeared to have spiked the punch. Veemon and Hawkmon were slouched against each other, massacring the errand boy's song. Veemon's lisp was about ten times worse than usual, not that the eagle was any clearer. Above then, Tentomon was flying.
Upside-down.
Cody and Gennai stared at the carnage for a few moments before the younger looked to the face of the elder. "I think I'll just stick with a Pepsi."
"Good call."
"Hey, girls. Have either of you seen Agumon? I want to talk to him." Biyomon asked, trying to hide her annoyance at the aforementioned.
"No, not for a while anyway." Gatomon replied from Kari's arms. Neither notcied how the bird's feathers were ruffled. They were too busy glaring at LadyDevimon, who was seductively twirling Izzy's hair with one hand while the other draped lazily around TK's neck. Both boys were blushing furiously, completely enraptured.
"Excuse me."
"Oh, hi Agumon. Hey, Biyomon's been looking for you."
"Oh, is she? Thanks Joe." The orange lizard deftly stepped with a practiced measure in between Gomamon, Armidillomon, and Patamon and snagged a few pieces of rapidly disappearing cake. One piece he gave to Joe, and one to Shin, who took it numbly, completely awestruck the gluttonous orgy in front of him(a/n: no, not that, you ecchis!).
Biyo was *really* p,o'd now. No one had seen that damn dinosaur for hours, and those that did didn't know where he went! She released an irritable coo and flapped her wings to relax.
"Hey, bird-girl. Find Agumon yet?"
"No, I haven't Matt. I'm sure I will, though."
"You bet. It's not that big of a hall-Hey! Did you look outside yet?"
"Outside?"
"Yeah! Maybe he's on the porch getting some air. Or did you already look?"
"No....I haven't." Biyomon replied thoughtfully. "Thanks, Matt."
"No problem. Now if you'll just excuse me...." he pushed her aside with one leg, and flung open the door they'd been standing in front of. "ALL RIGHT!! EVERYBODY OUTTA THE POOL *NOW*!!"
"<squeal> Ma-a-at!!"
"Ow, hey! Watch the fur!!"
Agumon swung his short legs against the edge of the porch, his feet making a dull thump with each contact. He stared contentedly at the blanket of stars embedded in the rich midnight sky and took a bite of cake.
"Good cake, hm?"
Agumon jumped and nearly choked at the icy tone coming from behind. "Biyomon!! Um, er, ah....piece of cake?" He offered the half-eaten object meekly.
"I don't *want* any cake. I *want* to talk to you!" she replied crisply, wings on her hips.
Agumon put the slice down and awkwardly turned his attention to the stars. "Oh?" he asked, trying to sound like he was completely in the dark about the subject matter.
"Don't you 'Oh?' me! What were you thinking? Don't you understand how important this play was to everybody?! How important it was to *me*?!" she cried, voice breaking on the last word.
He looked guiltily at his foot, which had resumed its mission to dent the porch wall. "I know." he replied in a small voice, not looking at her.
Completely confused and utterly upset, she flopped down next to him. "Then why?" she whined.
*SLAM*
The bird and lizard jerked their heads around.
"Oops....hehe." Gabumon threw an arm behind his head in embarrassment as Palmon blushed deeply behind him.
"Um...you...never saw us, okay?" the wolf-lizard said quickly before grabbing the flower's hand and running off the porch steps.
"Huh. No problem." Agumon said dryly as he rolled his eyes. He didn't really want to think about what his best friend was going to be doing with his girlfriend anyways.
"Why?"
Agumon jumped-he forgotten momentarily how much trouble he was in. "Um, well..."
She didn't wait for him to finish. "All the rehearsals, meeting after the humans got out of school, the dress rehearsal, and now tonight! You *deliberately* squirmed your way out of each and every kiss, and I want to know Why!"
She spun her back to him, unable to banish the solitary tear from slipping through her pink feathers. "...Is it me?"
Biyomon felt his claws on her shoulders as he pulled her around. "*No*. It's *not* you. It's just that...well...y'see.."
Damn it. Did she *have* to keep staring at him like that? He shifted a way from her uncomfortably and mumbled a reply. "I've nevxmxmvblt."
"You've what?" she prompted him again.
He sighed irritably, his male pride highly reluctant to divulge this secret. "I've never....kissed...anyone...before..."
She blinked but said nothing.
"Well? You have your answer, now what are you waiting for?!"
"I don't quite understand." Biyo replied honestly. "It's just a stage kiss-"
"A kiss is a kiss is a kiss. And nothing against you, but...I want our first kiss to be special, not in front of a live audience."
"*Our* first kiss?"
The dragon blushed heavily. "I meant 'our' as in me and the female I was involved with."
She nodded sagely. "Oh."
He plopped heavily on the step, and after a few moments, she joined them. The silence was slightly awkward, each pondering what to say next and trying to read the other's mind.
"By the way, are you guys okay?"
The bird and lizard started. Gabumon and Palmon were standing at the bottom of the porch, still holding hands. Agumon was genuinely touched by their concern, especially in light of the fact neither Matt nor Mimi were in view.
"We're fine. We're just a bit tired from the play."
Palmon nodded sympathetically. "I know what you mean. When we did the last play, I was so tired after! It's really exhausting when you put your heart into your performance. You really try to make people believe, y'know?
I really *like* acting! I wonder why I didn't get to play the lead. Not that *you* didn't do an awesome job, Biyomon!" she added quickly.
The words left Agumon's mouth before he could censor them. "They probably didn't think they'd be able to get you off your back."
The wolf-lizard perked his head angrily. "What was that, Agumon?"
"Um, er..."
"He said, they didn't think you should get two leads back to back." Biyomon answered.
"Well, I guess that's really only fair. No one likes a stage hog." Palmon said thoughtfully, oblivious to the death glare her wolf was casting on the dragon.
The pair left soon after. When it was assured they were out of earshot, the digimon broke out in fits of giggles.
"That wasn't a very nice thing to say, Agumon!" Biyo chastised between giggles.
"No, but it was probably true!"
"Probably!" They laughed some more until their sides ached.
"Agumon?" Biyomon began as they slowly caught their breath. "I'm sorry I got so mad earlier."
"I deserved it. I nearly ruined your big moment. All because I was too chicken. Er...no offense?"
"To what? All you did was follow your heart. If you don't want to kiss in the play, we don't kiss. Simple as that. Our friendship is to good to lose over something so petty. Dontcha think?"
Agumon smiled fondly, a bit of wonder in his eyes. "Yeah..."
They stayed out a bit longer, staring at the starlit skies in silence, just enjoying each other's company.
"GABUMON! WHAT DID I TELL YOU EARLIER?!?"
They leaned in close, and snickered for all they were worth.
Well, that's it! Hope u liked it! Now, howzabout helping your beloved Neffie? I could use some ideas for another play! And who would u like to be the stars?
