CHAPTER FIVE
Word spread that TK and Mina were a couple already, fast, but they weren't the only ones. A few of the campers were already starting to get as tight as TK and Mina. Yolei just wished Davis and Kari were among them, but those two just seemed to be growing more distant form each other than closer.
Yolei was almost getting the nerve to pick them up and push them together, but Ken and Cody talked her out of it. “You can't force people to fall in love like that, Yolei.” Ken said to her. “Just give them time… they'll get together.”
Cody and Yolei couldn't understand how he could be so confident. Ken explained if there was one thing Davis knew so well… it was how to get the job done… even in peril situations.
…
After lunch, the campers had their free time. Mina and TK went for a walk on the trailed path in the woods to talk and get to know each other more. They found out they had a lot more in common than they thought… Mina even lived with her divorced mother… just like TK.
Davis saw them disappear as he passed by the entrance to the woods. “Yep… He's… hooked.” he joked as he wandered off. He stood at the top of a hill and scouted over the whole camp trying to figure out what he could do next. That's when something caught his attention…
Before he knew it, he was at the riding range where he met up with Ken and Cody who were sitting on the fence of the large corral. “Hey! What's going on here?” But he could see it for himself, some of the campers were riding horses the camp owned, and raised… and trained very well to adjust to those who were inexperienced.
The thing was, almost every single one of the riders were girls. “Gee… TK was right.” Cody said. “What is it with girls and horses?”
Yolei was doing pretty good. Greater than the other riders, she galloped past the guys on the fence, “Hey guys!” she called, and she almost knocked Ken off the post. “I never knew Yolei could ride like that.” he said.
Cody told Ken all about Yolei's many uncles, including the one who owned a horse-ranch near Colorado in America. This really made Davis uneasy, “Cody… please… don't even mentioned the words Yolei and “uncles” in a sentence near me again!”
Typical Davis… still never got over that trauma from when they all met Willis in person.
…
“No!”
“No more uncles… no more horses… no more trains… no more planes-- IT'S GOTTA STOP!”
…
Davis snapped himself out of it. Ken and Cody couldn't help but chuckle. As they continued to watch the riders, Kari was there too, and she was doing pretty well for a first timer. “Wow…” Davis peeped softly as he watched her grace the field… like watching a figure skater leaving a trail of sparkles behind.
Davis was brought out of his trance when Kari and Yolei rode up to the boys. “You look real cool out there, Kari.” Davis complimented. Kari giggled and felt flattered, “Why don't you guys grab some horses and join us?”
“No way…” replied Davis. “It may the sport for you ladies, but it's not for me.”
Yolei and Kari found that difficult to believe. “This coming from the guy who got his way around on Raidramon...” Yolei insulted.
“Hey! I resent that.” Davis protested, “Besides… Raidramon's a super-fast speed-demon on four legs, not a high mule.”
The boy chuckled at Davis' joke, but they weren't so keen on trying it either. Cody was still a little short for his age, and Ken wasn't so sure he'd be any good. “Sorry girls… our answer is no… and defiantly no.”
…
But the boys soon found themselves mounted on extra horses. “It's official.” Davis said, “I'm a geek.”
“Gee… this is kind of… high.” Cody whimpered. That his problem for still being a little short for his age. Yolei rode up to the boys and offered to help them, “Just follow me… we'll take it slow.”
The boys followed her instructions, and Kari rode along side of them for extra guidance, but the boys didn't seem to be doing half bad. “Hey… this is kinds of fun.” Cody said, but he almost sounded giddy like a girl.
Davis couldn't help but chuckle, but then suddenly he felt he was gaining speed, “Hey! Hey… what are… you…?” he stuttered at his horse as he picked up more speed. “Ah! MAN---!”
“Davis!” cried Kari as she rode to catch up with him. “Hey! Come on! Stop! Sit boy!” Davis cried, but he just kept going faster. “Sit! Oh for crying out loud--”
“…WHOA!”
The horse finally stopped, and sent Davis flying like being launched from a catapult, “…AAAHH-- OUCH!” Splashing hard into the lake. Everyone in the whole camp laughed at him. Cody and Ken were puzzled. “How did he fly off so far?” Ken asked.
“I have no idea…” responded Cody, but then they both broke down laughing hard. Kari hopped off her horse and ran over to help Davis out of the water. “Davis, are you okay?”
Davis shook his hair dry. “Good thing I remembered my goggles.” He said as he lifted them up and let the water drizzle out of them. Kari escorted Davis to his bunk; once again Chloe was watching them. Now she defiantly knew Kari was coming onto Davis, but Davis was going to be hers… he had to be.
Chloe didn't notice, however, that she was being observed by Junta and Ami. “What do you think?” Junta asked. His wife couldn't deny it, “She's defiantly going to go at it again.”
They held hands, which was their secret signal to plan out something.
