The Affair Part 3
Setting: Yamato's house. (Same time as part 2 )
Title: Realization
By: Yamimylove
Placing Tezuka in the warm, sweet smelling water, she smiled at him and tousled his wet hair.
"Your hair is a mess," she said.
"That's because you just messed it up, Mommy." She grabbed some shampoo off the counter and opened it. Applying lots of it to her palm, she began to lather the already wet hair.
"Mommy, it's going to burn my eyes!"
"No it won't, honey. It's Johnson & Johnson. We both know it's not going to burn." The boy started crying anyway and wrapped his arms around his knees. He didn't want to wash his hair in the first place because it always scared him. He didn't know where all the white foamy stuff came from since all Mommy put in his hair was soap.
"Don't cry," she said as she continued lathering it up. "Don't you like the way it smells?"
He looked up at her and nodded his head in disapproval.
"Look, if you be a good boy, I'll read you a nice story before your little nap. I know you like that, don't you?" All thoughts of scary foam left the boy's mind. He always loved it when his Mommy told him stories, especially before bedtime or naptime! It was always a treat when she did that cause she didn't do it very much. He remembered the last time she did it though. It was a fast story about Jack and the beanstalk. He loved the way Mommy made the characters come to life with all the different voices she used. He decided that this was worth waiting for so he stopped crying and waited for Mommy to finish.
When she finally done, he was relieved. She lifted him out of the tub and wrapped him up in his favorite yellow towel. She called in his brother so he could bathe as well. She then carried him into the room to help him dry off and put on some play clothes to take a nap in. The two had already decided on what he was going to wear later and he would actually get the opportunity to put it on himself.
"Mommy, what about my nap story!" He asked when he saw that she was about to leave after she had helped him get into bed.
"I'm sorry, dear heart, I forgot. What story would you like me to read?"
"I don't know, Mommy. I've got lots of story books!"
"Then pick one and I'll read it to you."
With that, he quickly jumped off the bed and went to the bookrack. He looked around for what he was looking for and soon found it, Cinderella.
"This one, Mommy," he said as he handed her the book. She opened the book and began.
"Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Cinderella. Her Mother died when she was a young girl of about seven and she was left all alone with her father the king. But soon, her father re-married and then came the wrath of the ugly bitches, her step mother and her two daughters!”
"Mommy, you said a very bad word!"
"Cinderella didn't like this at all! She loved her father dearly and when he married that lady, she knew it was all over. When they sealed their vows with a kiss, Cinderella knew that her life would never be the same at all. Everything was about to change."
"Eww, Mommy, you said the 'k' word."
"What are you talking about?"
"Mommy, you said… kissing."
"There's nothing wrong with kissing! I do it with Daddy all the time and I'm sure that you've seen us. Look, let me show you." She leaned forward and kissed Tezuka on the forehead. "There's nothing wrong with that, right?"
"Eww," he said as he scrunched up his nose as if he had smelled something bad.
"And I'm sure that one day you will meet the right person for you, and you will kiss her as well. You will like it."
"You mean the way Daddy was kissing Mr. Yagami?"
"…"
"Mommy, why you don't answer?"<O:P</O:P
"Tezuka, what are you talking about?"<O:P</O:P
"Daddy was kissing Mr. Yagami and Katsuhiro told me he saw them doing something and Daddy was screaming and stuff like that. "
"… When was this?" Sora was starting to become suspicious as to what her son was saying. She usually wouldn't listen to such nonsense because he was a little child of three and very prone to lie as little children his ages are always prone to do.
"Mommy, I don't remember when it was."
"Oh, it's okay. It was just a dream anyway," she said as she patted him on the head and smiled sweetly at him.
"But it wasn't a dream at all. I know so."
"Yes it was. That's why you don't remember when it was."
"But, Mo.-"
"It was a dream," she sad fiercely. She stood up and left without finishing the story.
"My story…"
"We'll finish it later."
He didn't know why Mommy was being so mean to him. He didn't do anything wrong at all. He simply asked her a question about kissing and she got angry. He covered himself up and started crying. He didn't do anything wrong and he didn't want Mommy to come back in the room to see his tears.
"Why is Mommy being so mean," he asked his teddy bear that usually stayed on his bed. It didn't answer him back. He simply hugged the teddy bear up close to his chest and tried to fall asleep.
Now she was completely suspicious as to what her son was talking about. She almost didn't want to believe that something like that would happen under her nose without her knowing. She knew for a fact that there was only a way for her to find out the truth about this matter. And that was to talk to her older son Katsuhiro.

He had recently taken a liking to being super clean and he was taking too long in the bathroom. She had the urge to open the bathroom door to speak to him, but she knew that he'd never get over something like that and would never trust her near the bathroom door while he was in it. He was at that funny stage where he needed his bathroom privacy without having his mother barging in the door and seeing him. Instead, she knocked on the door and called his name, " Katsuhiro."<O:P</O:P
He did not reply and all she could hear was the bath water running and the sound of him splashing around. She knocked again.
"Katsuhiro, you're taking too long. I don't want you to catch cold." He heard her this time.
"Okay, Mom." After another long wait, he came out the bathroom all dressed and ready to go out. He was definitely dressed to kill considering that he felt himself to be the next man in line.
"You've dressed very nicely."
"Thanks."
"Why don't you put your clothes in the room and come in the living room with me. I need to speak to you."
"But…but… Mom. I didn't kill that dog! It was the neighbor. I didn't do..."
"Dog? Katsuhiro, I don't know what you're talking about. You're not in trouble… trouble that I know about. I just need to talk to you about a few things. It won't take long either. Okay."
"Yes, Mom."
Soon, he had done as she told him and both were sitting in the living room.<O:P</O:P
"I heard a few things," she said to break the silence.
"What did you hear?"
"Something about your father."
"What is it?"
"You tell me."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I think you do know what I'm talking about."
"You said I wasn't in trouble."
"You're not and why would you even think about trouble. I just want to hear that thing about you father."
"But if I didn't do anything why are you asking so many questions?"
"Because I'm your mother and I can do whatever I like."
There was a brief moment of silence as Katsuhiro collected his thoughts to answer his Mother, remembering not to give away too much.
"It's nothing."
"That means it's something."
"I mean nothing important."
"Well, if it happened, it must have some importance. You seem very stuck on not telling me. Tell me."
"I told you it's nothing. It's just that Mr. Yagami was here a few months ago. That's all. They're friends aren't they?"
"I'm sure that they are, ever since I was a young girl."
"I have lots of friends too."
"Good for you. What did they do, anything special."
"No. I don't know what you're talking about."
"Well they had to do something. Why would he come here to do nothing at all? You must know what it is because you saw them as you said earlier." Katsuhiro was feeling trapped and hopeless. He didn't want to tell Mommy what he had seen for fear of getting in trouble. He didn't want to be punished.
"They were… playing."
"Playing?"
"Playing."
"Hmm, what were they playing?"
"Don't know."
"Sure?"
"Sure."
"What did it look like they were playing?"
"Don't know."
She looked at him slyly; raising a brow that she knew would intimidate him.
"You must know. I'm sure you know lots of games: board games, hide and seek, etc."
"Then… it was like football."
"Football?"
"Yep."
"How?"
"Well… theytackledeachotherandactedlikeanimals," he said as quickly as he could, hoping that his Mom would not understand and not ask him to repeat himself.
"What?"
"They tackled each other and … and acted like animals."
"They tackled each other in the living room?"
"No, in your bed…" He knew he had spoken too much when he said bed and knew that Mom would figure out everything. He knew so because her eyes seemed to bulge out of her head when he said that.
"Bed?"
"Bed."
He hung his head down, waiting for his punishment. He didn't know what it was going to be: no TV, no basketball, or hopefully just a slap. At least that way he wouldn't have to give up anything.
"Anything else you'd like to add?"
"No… You still didn't tell me what you heard."
"Kissing. Is that true?"
"Yes, Mom."
"How?"
"…"<
"How?"
"I thought they were going to eat their heads off," he said with confidence after he noticed that no punishment would come. "And when they were in the room, they were both screaming and I was scared. I didn't know what they were doing. What were they doing, Mom?"
"… umm… Why didn't you tell me about this sooner? I'd have liked to know right away to prevent this sort of thing."
"What does that mean."
"It means … I think you should take a nap before we go."
"I already slept well last night."
"Just go to your bed. I have a headache."
"Why. Is it because of Daddy and Mr. Yagami?"
"Listen, just go take a little nap. I need to think and can't do that if you're here watching me. Go to your room."
"You told me I wasn't in trouble."
"You're not. You're getting a bit disobedient here. Remember that I am your mother. You must respect me and do as I say."
"I'm sorry, it's just that…"
"Just go to bed now before I get angry. Okay?"
"Yes. I'm sorry."
Katsuhiro was glad that he didn't get in trouble like he had thought, but he couldn't help but think that he spoken too much and that something terribly wrong was going to happen. He didn't like the way Mom questioned him like that. The tone in her voice was so… suspicious. And when her eyes bulged out of her head, he thought they would simply pop out of her head and land on the floor. He didn't like his current situation at all and knew that it was not over yet.
He heard little sniffles coming out of a blanket when he entered his room.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked as he poked the blanket. Suddenly, two red, puffy eyes appeared from underneath the blanket.
"I can't sleep and Mommy's angry with me."
"Why?"
"I don't know. I just asked her something about kissing." Katsuhiro knew then what had happened and who had opened his big mouth. But he knew it was not his brother's fault.
"It's okay," he said. "Mom's not angry with you. She's angry with Daddy. Just go to sleep and don't worry about it. Everything will be fine."
~*~
This… was not supposed to happen. She was supposed to marry, have kids, and live happily lever after with her husband. The husband was not supposed to get tired of her and therefore go and have an affair with another man. It wasn't right and she knew she was headed along the same path as her mother, a path she had tried to avoid for so long. What was to happen now? How was she going to confront him about this without letting the children know? The last thing she wanted was for them to find out that their father was having an affair with Mr. Yagami and she didn't know if it was really true. She had to confront him first before she made any rash decisions.
But why would Yamato want to cheat on her with Taichi? It made absolutely no sense at all. They had never shown attraction for each other… in her presence at least. He had never even told her that he just happened to be… that way. It made no sense at all. Did he just decide one night that he wanted to try having sex with Taichi and that was it? Or did he know long ago and not tell her about it? But wait a minute. They had been married for so long. He should have told her. Married couples were not supposed to get married with secrets like that lurking around. She became furious just thinking about it. He had no right to do this. She didn't deserve it and if it was true, she wanted no part of him. She would do everything to make his life miserable.
She thought of what her mother would think of her if she found out about this. She knew for a fact that she would blame her for not being able to keep a man and make him happy. That's how her mother was, old fashioned and a miserable burden. If what Katsuhiro said was true, then she to would become just like her mother and she didn't want that.
Who else knew about this? What if the neighbors had seen Taichi and Yamato kissing or holding hands in the lobby or any other place for that matter? They were probably laughing at her behind her back because they knew about this and she did not. She would not be made a fool of! Where had the two found the time to be together? She knew for a fact that it couldn't be here, in here home. Maybe there was that one time that Katsuhiro mentioned, but on that day she had to stay for a night class to finish her second degree. This had not happened since. Where? She knew that Yamato went to work at noon and would not come back till late, but that was for training and nothing more, right? He usually stayed home with the kids on the weekends and sometimes took them out… except for the fact that he had those weekends training sessions at times and those had become more frequent lately. She knew she would have to question him about when these things took place.
But then a terrible thought crept into her mind. This had been going on for months and now that she thought back on it, she had seen all the signs that Yamato was not happy with her. When they first got married, they were happy and no such signs were present. It was only a few months ago that he started to become less interested in her and the arguments that they had always had increased drastically. It was then that he seemed less interested in sharing a bed with her and would turn around so his back was facing her. He didn't want to be bothered and would tell her that she was bothering him. He needed his sleep if she tried to provoke him and arouse him. It was true. She had seen all the signs and ignored them. She was stuck in her little happy world and didn't want to believe that the happiness was finally over as all things must come to an end especially if they were never meant to be. Then these sorts of things would not even come up. They would have been happy forever and would have died old, together.
She slowly slid the gold, diamond wedding ring off her finger and held it between her thumb and index finger. She stared at its glittering form. It meant nothing if the love behind it was no more or had ended. It had ended and it wouldn't come back. She was sure of that now even though she still had not questioned Yamato. Now she knew that there was nothing she could do to fix it.
