Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The Currently Untitled Daikeru / Takedai! ❯ Friendly Advice ( Chapter 2 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon. However, I DO own this nifty little wooden parrot complete with its own little martini umbrella! ^^;
I somehow managed to make it home, even though I don't remember it. I even managed to get up to my room, to my bed, even though I don't remember that either. Some time a lot later, my mother knocked on my door.
"Daisuke, are you okay? You've been in here for a while." I sighed.
"I'm fine. May I use the telephone please?" I asked, mostly just to avoid her asking me questions. She said it was okay, so I slowly rolled out of my bed and went into the hall. I called Ken. Couldn't think of anyone else. We decided to meet in the park to hang out.
"Would you like to play basketball?" he asked me. Instantly, at the word basketball, Takeru's face was swimming before my eyes.
"No," I said quietly.
"Soccer then?"
"No field."
"Oh...then d'you just wanna hang out and talk? You seem preoccupied." I hesitated. Ken was my best friend, after all. I could talk to him. He'd listen quietly and not judge.
So we ended up leaving the park and going to my house. Perched on my bed with a chocolate covered rice ball in one hand and a soda in the other, I felt a bit better. I plunged right in, starting from the very beginning and not leaving anything out.
Like I expected, Ken sat and listened, concern in his violet eyes. Finally, when I reached the end of my story, I waited apprehensively for his reaction. I hoped he wouldn't turn away from me or hate me, hoped he'd accept me as I was, as I was working on accepting myself.
"Daisuke, I am not surprised you are attracted to Takeru. I have suspected it for a while now." Some surprise must have shown on my face, because Ken smiled. "No, I don't mean you've been obvious or anything, and I doubt Takeru knows....I just had a theory. My advice for you is to tell him how you feel in case he likes you back."
"You and Yamato both," I muttered. "It's not that simple, Ken. He goes out with Hikari." Ken still had that smile on his face.
"No he doesn't," he said. "Because I do." Now I really was surprised. Nobody told me about that.
"So...what, you're saying Takeru's available?" I asked hopefully. Maybe, just maybe...
Ken shrugged. "He's not dating any of the DigiDestined, but outside of that, I don't know. Gomen nasai, I cannot help you beyond that, unless you want me to ask..."
"No, that's okay....I'll find out myself somehow. Thanks though." Ken smiled at me.
"Anytime. After all, what are friends for, ne?" By then, it was dinner time, so I invited Ken to stay and eat. After dinner, Ken said he had to go home. Before he left, he told me I should talk to Taichi. I made an indistinct noise in my throat. Ken merely smiled and waved goodnight. I went back to my room and flopped on my bed yet again. My bed was becoming popular real estate.
More confused than ever, I debated whether or not to take Ken's advice and call Taichi. To call or not to call. I rolled my eyes at the stupid phrase, then went into the hallway before I changed my mind. It can't hurt, I reasoned. He said he wouldn't tell.
I dialed Taichi's number. Hikari picked up.
"Moshi moshi," Hikari said. I paused a bit nervously.
"Hikari? Is Taichi there?" I asked tentatively. What if he wasn't there?
"Sure, hang on," she replied, setting the phone down. A few moments later, Taichi picked up.
"Moshi moshi?" he asked. "Daisuke?"
"Yeah...I, um...hi," I stammered nervously. "Are you free?"
"For about an hour, yes. What's up?" he asked.
"Can we talk? I need some help with something..."

Daisuke called and sounded really confused. I invited him over to talk, and he gratefully accepted the invitation.
"So what's up?" I asked him again. "You said you wanted to talk, and here we are..." Daisuke took a deep breath.
"Taichi, you guys were right...earlier...about me....and Takeru." he said slowly, painfully. "I realised I do actually like him, but didn't know what to do about it."
I paused for a moment, in thought. "Daisuke, I can't tell you what to do...but I can tell you this: unless one of you takes that step, you'll never find out. It'll take courage, but you're the holder of courage. That should be right up your alley! Hey, the worst he can do is say he doesn't like you back."
Daisuke sighed. "That's not the worst he could do," he said darkly. "He could beat me up, call me a pansy, and never talk to me again."
"Then who needs him?! If he could be that intolerant and immature about it, then screw him! You think my relationship with Yamato has been all rosebuds and no thorns? I've been called a pansy almost every day since we've come out, but that hasn't stopped us. Daisuke, Yamato and I support your decision no matter what you choose to do, okay?"
"Okay," he said, smiling weakly. "I think I'll go call him now. Thanks for your help, Taichi."
"Anytime," I said to him as he went out the door back to his house.
