Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The Dark Slayers ❯ Chapter 5 ( Chapter 5 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Takeru looked around the halls of the library, hoping that he isn't followed by anyone and that Ken and Miyako aren't around. More importantly, Daisuke and Iori. As he made his way towards the meeting place, Daisuke immediately came in front of him stopping Takeru dead in his tracks.
The blue-eyed blonde frowned. Why him of all people? Especially at this time. He then noticed Iori wasn't around at the time. Hm. He doesn't have his bodyguard with him. Even more vulnerable. "Uh, you're in my way..." Takeru said.
Daisuke narrowed his eyes. "I've noticed you've been around Kari too much lately. Plus she told me you're meeting her here today. Anyone who poses as a threat to my chances with my Hikari, shall go through me first!"
Takeru's face expression showed he wasn't scared or interested at all. "So," he replied. "Now if you excuse me, I need to see Kari."
Daisuke reluctantly backed away and opened the way for Takeru to pass. He then shot a glare and pointed at him. "2:15 on school campus today. I'll deal with you then. You better be there!"
As Daisuke walked away, Takeru sighed with relief. He continued on seeing Hikari, leaning against the wall and reading a book. At first sight of Takeru, she closed her book and puts it away.
"Ohayo TK!" she greeted.
"Ohayo..." he greeted back.
"So what was it you wanted to tell me?" Hikari asked curiously.
Takeru gulped before he replied. He adjusted his collar and replied, "I know its a bit sudden....since we just met and all....but I was wondering. Would you...." Before spilling the last of his sentence, Gennai called on his watch. "Can you hold for a second?" Hikari nodded and waited patiently.
Gennai appeared on the screen of Takeru's watch with a huge grin on his face. "So, you're talking to the girl aren't you? Well, ask her out already!"
"That's what I'm about to do!" Takeru shouted.
"Do what, Takeru?" Hikari wondered.
Takeru quickly turned his watch off and looked back at Hikari. "Oh. I was wondering if you would go out with me? On Friday night!"
The brunette nodded. "Sure. I'd love to," she replied. Hikari quickly pecked him on the cheek and ran off to class. "See you in Physics class, TK!"
As soon as Hikari was out of range, Takeru's watch turned back on when Gennai called. "Hey! What the heck was that for?!" Gennai scolded at Takeru. He suddenly noticed the slight blush on his face and realized what happened. "Oh! I see! Hikari said yes, huh?"
Takeru nodded. "If you don't mind, I have to attend class." He shut his watch off and walked out of the library. That damn geezer.
----------
All during Physics, Daisuke was seen glaring at Takeru the whole time, muttering curses at him. Takeru didn't notice but was busy staring at Hikari, while Hikari was paying attention to the teacher.
Mr. Naginawa saw a connection between the three. With the movement of his eyes from one person to the next, he formed a triangle. Gee, watching those 3 makes me think back to my college days. Love triangles, hard to get out of.
----------
Takeru wondered bitterly how he ever got into an AP Trigonometry class. At least there was someone there he knew. Even if he were stuck in a class with Ken, Takeru wouldn't mind at all. Unlike him, most of his classmates would hate to be in a class with Ichijouji Ken. Takeru would get total protection for being one of Hikari's closest friends.
From the corner of his eye, Ken noticed Takeru struggling through class trying to understand everything. He smirked and passed him a note. Takeru took it and unfolded the small crumpled piece of paper.
'From the looks on your face, it seems you need help. Real bad. If you want, we can have lunch together at the cafe and I can help you with the homework.'
Takeru slightly smiled and nodded at Ken. Not only did he see this as a way to pass Trigonometry, but a way into finding more about Hikari and The Dark Slayers, since Ken is a member of the elite branch.
----------
Chemistry, not really much of a preference for Takeru. But oh well, he usually thought every time he entered class. The only thing that crossed his mind during class was how a girl like, Miyako, does so well in this type of field.
He was lucky to have Miyako as his lab partner. Well, thats what Takeru thought. Wait! Scratch that! Its sorta bad to have her as a partner. Miyako may know what she is doing, but Takeru feels like her own slave doing all the work while she says the directions and figure the rest out.
"You know Takeru, you're different than my previous lab partners," Miyako said.
"Really?"
Miyako nodded. "Yup! Most of them would usually faint after class because of exhaustion. I'm not that forceful am I?"
Takeru faked a smile. "Uh, no you're not at all!" he lied. "I think you're pretty nice!" Smooth move Takaishi. Now she won't buy it.
"Really? Its a good thing you're friends with Kari. Its hard to come across a person like you..."
"What makes you say that?"
"Here at this university, there are two types of people that I consider stupid and idiotic," she began. "The first type are the people who stay away and fear Kari because she's the heiress to The Dark Slayers. They wouldn't want to be friends with her just because they think that they'll be killed. The other type are the people who aren't afraid of getting killed but want total protection. Kari wouldn't allow her friends to be killed. Plus, the fact that she's rich, they would want some of her money."
Takeru grew nervous after Miyako described the 2nd type. Its totally like what he's doing. "So what am I? And what about you?"
"Well, we're not stupid and idiotic. I knew Hikari since Elementary, even if we're in different grades. I didn't know of her status till like Jr. High," Miyako replied."You just moved in from where again?"
"Kyoto," he answered. Well, thats what the Captain told me to say. I actually lived in this town before.
"Yeah, Kyoto! So, you've never knew about the Dark Slayers before and you're Kari's friend. There's no harm in that..." Her mind then trailed onto Daisuke. He experiences the same problems since he's in association with the Flares. "The same thing applies to Davis. He may be a jerk, but you have to feel sorry for him. He's not that bad after a while."
"I think he hates me..."
"Of course he does. I think its good." Takeru was confused. "Kari never had a guy friend that was as close as you are to her. You're the only guy that has ever gone far enough to almost being her boyfriend. I mean seriously, Kari needs a boyfriend. And you're the perfect candidate!"
Takeru got the point, then blushed. "But hey! We're just friends right now!" he protested.
"Sure! That's what they all say," she said while reading her notes. "Make sure you put this." She handed him a vial and the two went back to work.
Takeru took it and sighed. Gee, she loves to talk.
----------
It was Takeru's free period. His favorite, next to the classes where Hikari is in with him. It was his chance to talk to Iori since it was his free period as well.
The only place to find Iori during his Study period is the library, where he mostly reads and study. The average student would do that.
Takeru took a seat across Iori at the same table. Iori heard the chair movement and puts the book he was reading down. That was when he noticed Takeru.
"Its your free period too?" he asked.
Takeru nodded. "I was wondering how you can stand him."
"You mean Daisuke?" Iori asked. Takeru nodded. "Its my job. Ever since I joined the Flares."
"Wow. That's pretty tough of you to withstand that for years. How long though have you been with the Flares?" Takeru asked. He knew he was breaking the rule for talking about the crime families, but no one was watching them.
"Since I was 15," he replied.
"3 years eh? Why so young?"
"Mr. Motomiya has seen me as an abled boy who could probably serve as his son's bodyguard during his schooltime. He's even willing to pay for my education."
"What about your family?"
"My mother doesn't approve of it, yet she doesn't stop me from continueing. I wanted the job really bad, plus the pay was good."
"So you're in it for the money?"
"My, you ask so much questions," Iori said.
"Sorry. Its a habit of mine," Takeru apologized.
Iori nodded in response to his previous question. "Also revenge. My father was a cop who got killed by the Dark Slayers. My mother was then on her own to support the family. If I were able to find a job, I would be able to help my mother. Since the Flares were the Dark Slayer's #1 rival, it was a way for me to get revenge. Now my grandfather is sick in the hospital. Because of my paying job, we were able to pay for his medicare."
"That's reasonable. I would've probably done the same thing if I were you," Takeru said. "Except, if I wasn't an orphan and had no family."
"Well, you have it worse than me. No family at all," Iori said. "I believe you're even braver than me. Being able to live alone and still be happy."
"Thanks."
The bell rang signifying a change in classes. The two boys just noticed that they've been talking for almost a whole period. Iori stood up from his seat and lent a hand out towards Takeru.
"Its been good getting to know you, Takeru," Iori said.
"Same here," Takeru accepted the hand and shook it. "You can call me TK when its just the two of us."
"Call me Cody. Don't ask why."
Takeru nodded and waved towards him. "Ja ne! Cody!"
Iori waved back and headed towards his next class. Takeru gathered his belongings and walked to his meeting place with Ken for lunch.
----------
"Oi! Hey Ken!" Takeru shouted out to him as Ken entered.
"Takeru, early aren't you?"
"Well, yeah. I had a free period before coming here," the blonde replied.
"Lucky you," Ken said. "Yolei almost held me back for 10 minutes after History class. She wouldn't stop ranting on about the wedding plans. Weddings do have this effect on women."
"I've heard." Silence fell between them for about a second.
"So, Trigonometry? My co-worker Koushiro enjoys it. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon," Ken broke the silence. He took out the textbook and dropped it on the table giving out a slightly loud noise to be heard. A smirk played upon his lips as he leaned one arm against the table. "With me as a Trigonometry tutor, I'll make sure you get it straight in your head."
Takeru cringed in fear at his statement. What have I got myself into?
"You asked for it," Ken replied as if he read Takeru's mind.
As they had lunch, Takeru was getting closer to understanding Trigonometry, and the crime strategist himself. Their in-between discussions dealt with Hikari and Ken's past with the Dark Slayers. Not to mention his secret affair with Jun. Ken seemed to trust Takeru alot to tell him such a secret.
They've been at it for almost 2 hours that Takeru just noticed the time. It was 2:11, and he needed to be at school campus to meet Daisuke.
"Sorry. I have to go. The idiotic Motomiya wants to see me..." Takeru checked his watch for the time. "In 4 minutes. How about we do this again, lets say tomorrow? Same place."
Ken nodded as Takeru ran out in a hurry. The dark haired boy packed his stuff and walked out of the cafe. With a lighter in hand, he took out a cigarette and places it in his mouth. From the corner of the block came a brunette that Ken secretly did not want to see.
----------
Takeru ran as fast as he could back to school. He thought this was ridiculous but he had no choice. If he were to get Daisuke off his back for once, Takeru would do it now. As soon as he arrived, Daisuke walked in. Behind him was Iori and Hikari with worried expressions on their faces.
Daisuke drops his stuff onto the ground and looks at Takeru dead in the eye. "Ok, Fuun Takeru, I'll teach you not to mess with my Hikari!"
Hikari then realized what was going on and glared at Daisuke. "I'm not yours, Davis!" she protested.
"But you do know what I mean? He's trying to split us up, by becoming your boyfriend!" Daisuke explained.
She wasn't at all impressed. "I don't recall us ever being together. Besides, Takeru is my friend."
"Sure. Cody! Beat him up!" Daisuke ordered.
Iori shook his head. "Sorry, Daisuke. He's my friend as well. People can't hurt their friends," Iori replied.
"Then you're fired!" Daisuke shouted.
"Your father has the authority to do that, Daisuke," Iori said.
"Oh yeah," he was suddenly reminded. Besides, I still need him to do my homework. His attention was then turned towards Takeru.
"Then, I'll deal with you myself." Daisuke took off his uniform jacket and the tie. He then loosened his collar and sleeves as he rolled them up.
"Fine with me," Takeru accepted the challenge. He loosened himself up just as Daisuke did.
----------
Ken stood outside the cafe with a lit cigarette in hand leaning against the wall. Jun came around the corner and saw Ken. Their eyes interlocked.
"Jun..." He blew a puff of smoke at her.
"Ken...Surprised to see me, eh?"
Ken frowned. "What's with the sudden change in attitude? You were mad at me before," Ken wondered.
"Well, I thought about what happened before. It was wrong of me to do that."
"Sure. Whatever..."
"How about giving us a chance?" Jun flirtatiously whispered into his ear. She then kissed him full on the lips.
Ken wanted to push her back, but then he thought about what Taichi mentioned to him. As long as Miyako doesn't find out, it would be alright. He moved his hand around Jun's waist and deepened the kiss.
Around the corner, came Miyako. She was reading a book, but the scene in front of her caused her to drop the book. All she wished for went down the drain.
"Ken!"
The blue-eyed blonde frowned. Why him of all people? Especially at this time. He then noticed Iori wasn't around at the time. Hm. He doesn't have his bodyguard with him. Even more vulnerable. "Uh, you're in my way..." Takeru said.
