"Daivis!" Davis looked up from where he had been staring out the window. He had been acting spacier than usual"Davis!" Davis looked up from where he had been staring out the window. He had been trying to catch a hint of that voice again, but without result. He sighed, looking up at Miyako, who was glaring at him from across the table.
“Yes Miyako?” He asked, feigning patience while poking at a formless goop he had been told was Jell-O. Not that he doubted the honesty of the cafeteria staff, but he was positive the goop had moved on its own just now.
“You’re quiet.” Miyako stated matter-of-factly. Daisuke looked up questioningly.
“And….?” He prompted, but Miyako just crossed her arms. Daisuke raised an eyebrow and straitened up from his food-contemplating-slouch position.
“And you want an explanation.” he couldn’t help it. The sneer slipped into his voice. Miyako heard it.
“Hey!” She snapped, slamming her hand down on the table in front of him “You’re the one acting like an asshole, so don’t snap at me!” Daisuke scowled at her.
I’m being an asshole?” He asked.
“Yes, you are!” She snapped back.
“For not talking?”
“Yes!”
Daisuke sighed. He really wasn’t in the mood for this. Ignoring Miyako’s startled noise, he picked up his tray and started to leave. Takuru, always the kind, pacifist leader, reached out and caught his elbow.
“Davis” he whispered softly. “just apologize.” Daisuke’s scowl darkened.
“For not talking?” He hissed. Takuru sighed and released his arm.
“Don’t be difficult please.” He said, louder this time.
“Oh, if only I could wrap my hands around your neck-”
/”Now, now Dai-chan. Don’t get violent.”/
Startled, Daisuke yelped and dropped his tray…on Takuru’s head. The living green goop splattered all over Hikari, who was hanging on his arm, and some “gravy” hit Miyako. Daisuke gasped an apology, then rushed outside before he could be jumped.
Outside in the school yard, Daisuke jumped up into his favorite tree-resting place, nearly falling out again from all his helpless giggling.
“You did that on purpose.” He thought to no one in particular.
/“Why of coarse I did. I had to prevent you from killing them somehow.”/ Daisuke jumped, but not as badly this time.
“So how come it took you this long to care?” Daisuke asked, half joking, half bitterly. The voice was silent for a while, then answered, gently, almost hesitantly.
/“You were sent to a good family. I didn’t think you would want your past popping to bother you.”/ Daisuke was silent for a moment, smiling fondly.
/“I missed you so much, though. I thought…….Never mind.”/ Daisuke bit his lip, even though he wasn’t talking out loud, even though he couldn’t be seen by the person he was speaking to. Another soft laugh drifted through his mind.
/”well, don’t be so happy to hear from me just yet.”/ Daisuke sighed softly.
/”Is something really wrong?”/ he asked, though he couldn’t imagine what could be important enough for them to contact him again.
/” Dr Wakamaru is back.”/

Takuru left the bathroom angrily. His hat still had a large green stain on it.
“WHAT THE HELL IS HIS PROBLEM TODAY?!?!?!?!” Miyako shrieked, making Takuru jump.
“Maybe he doesn’t feel well.” Suggested Hikari reasonably. “He keeps coming to school looking exhausted, and he always has some new bandage on his face. Maybe he’s getting beat up after school?” Miyako snorted.
“Well if he can’t handle himself in the real world, maybe he should stop coming with us to the digital world.” She snapped, still mad about having to wash gravy from her hair in the girls bathroom. Hikari gasped.
“Miyako, you can’t mean that?!” She cried.
“I agree, Hikari.” Takuru said, folding his arms as they headed out the door into the yard. “Think about it. We might actually be on time for once.” Hikari giggled. Well, it was true that Daisuke was late more than she would like. Maybe if he had more important things to do than help clean up the digital world, then who needed him? Miyako was just opening her mouth to add something to that when they were all startled by a voice a few feet away from them.
“NANI?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!” Looking up quickly, they were just in time to see Daisuke topple unceremoniously out of a rather tall tree. He landed with a rather loud thud, and an even louder curse. Hikari looked up into the tree for the person Davis had been shouting at. There was no one else up there. She glanced questioningly at Miyako and Takuru, who looked equally confused.
“Davis?” Hikari tried timidly when no one else made a move towards the boy. Davis, who had been staring off into space since his fall, started violently and looked around. He stared at her as if her couldn’t recognize her for a moment, before blinking.
“Hi, Hikari, what are you doing here?”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hikari looked at him like he was speaking a different language.
/“I suppose I chose a wrong time?”/ Said the whisper. Daisuke forced away a grin.
/“No, you spoke up just in time, but I have to take care of the Maud-squad (A.N. what is the maud-squade, anyway? 0.0) first.”/
/“Ok, meet Kali behind the book store on fifth avenue at seven tonight to discus this in more detail.”/
Daisuke nodded shortly. Even though The other couldn’t see him, it didn’t mean that he didn’t know what Daisuke was doing. He knew that from experience.
“Did you guys want something?” he asked, his usual goofy smile pasted back on his face.

Daisuke arrived at the meeting place an hour before the designated time. He didn’t want to spend the time waiting at home by any stretch of reasoning. He closed his eyes. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, hearing the voice of his old friend….his segregate brother, had brought back some old memories. Granted he was only three at the time, so no, he shouldn’t be able to remember much of it at all, but that was one of the things the scientists had strived for in that lab. To improve the human memory. He could remember everything from the age one in a half to that very moment in which he stood behind the bookstore.
//FLASHBACK//
The little boy sat alone in the small room. It had metallic walls and a small bed in the corner. The room was all he had ever known, but he knew there was something outside it. He knew because His new friend had told him.
/“Are you there?”/
His friends voice entered his head suddenly. The boy smiled, something that, from him, was a rare occurrence.
/“Yes.”/ He answered. /“The doctor said that he would take me to the library at noon. I asked like you told me to.”/ His new friend had been giving him instructions on what to do and how to do them. Every time he followed them correctly, something wonderfully awful happened to the doctors and scientists at the lab, and he never got caught! It served Doctor Wakamaru right for touching him like that. He didn’t understand why, but he didn’t like it. The way the doctor smiled at him when his hand had slid up his shirt…….
The door opening interrupted his thoughts.
/“H-he’s hear.”/ He whimpered in his head.
/“NANI?!”/
The doctor stopped a few feet away from the boy, looking at him with that expression he saved especially for him. He never looked at anyone else like that.
/“23158, we need to run some tests.”/ He said with that smile the boy hated so much.
/“N-no, please, not today, Wakamaru-san, I-I’ll-”/ But the doctor just smiled and shook his head. He stepped forward and reached down to pick the boy up, but the child ducked away from him and ran for the door. But it was locked. Like usual, it was locked.
/“Now now, 23158, what was that all about?”/ the was a tone to his voice the boy recognized from the day before. A tone that made his blood run cold. H felt the doctor come up behind him. He was trapped, no where to go. H felt the doctors smooth, cool hand drift down the shirt he was wearing….

“Reminiscing, Dai-chan?” A female voice inquired, snapping Daisuke from his revive. Looking up quickly, he grinned the widest and most genuine grin he had grinned in a long time. (A.N wow! Alliteration! Pre AP English is paying off after all! I know a big word!)
“Kali-san! It’s so good to see you again!”
