Chapter 7 Summer Festival

A/N: Please read and review.

The next day, I think about my kiss with Kouji san.
My first REAL kiss, not counting the ones I've had in
my imagination. I'm so deep into thought I don't hear
Takuya san call my name. "Huh?" I say, startled. He
looks at me concerned. "You O.K., Yorande san?"

"Yeah."

"What were you thinking about?"

"Oh, uh...it's nothing."

"Oh. Well I was wondering if you'd like to go to the
'Summer Festival' at 'Kino Shrine.' "

"A festival?"

"Hai."Takuya san hands me a rolled up flier he had in
his hand. I unroll it and read it aloud: " 'Summer
Festival'. Food, games, fun, and Tanaka Taku, Japan's
best drummer. Saturday, June 26 at 'Kino Shrine.
Time: 4:00 P.M.---1:00A.M. Sounds fun. O.K. I'll go.
"Great," Takuya san replies. I'll come get you at
5:30P.M. I nod. I wonder what I should wear. "Wear
a yukata,"Takuya san suggests."It's light. Plus, it's
gonna be pretty humid that day." "Is that a kimono?" I
ask. "Hai," Takuya san replies. "Where am I gonna get
a yukata?" I wonder. Takuya san shrugged. "I don't
know. My mom's helping me sew mine. You should ask
Takashi san to help you make one." I nod again.

I had thought about asking Kouji san if he wants to
go to the festival, so later that night, I call him. He says
he doesn't mind going. I had told Takashi san about the
festival. She had said she was gonna tell me about it
and suggest I go with my friends. She helps me start
sewing my yukata. She's excellent at making stuff and
she already had cloth in the house. The rest of the
week, I work on my yukata.

2 Weeks Later

My yukata is done and today's the day of the festival. I
can't wait to put it on. Later, I take a bath and brush my
teeth and Takashi san helps me put on the yukata and
ties my hair up into a bun. She uses a matching blue
ribbon. After Takashi san helps me, she gets ready
herself.'She's going too,but a little later than me. I hear a knock
on the door. "I'll get it," I say. I open the door to see
Takuya san wearing a red yukata and a little boy who looks like him wearing a blue yukata. "You're
right on time,"I say, after I greet him. He smiles. "You
look great!" I smile. "Arigato. Who's this little guy?" I look at the
little boy. "This is Shinya," Takuya san says. "My kid
brother." "Hello," I say, bowing. "Hajimemashite," Shinya says,
bowing. Takashi san joins me at the door in a
robe. "My, don't you two look nice," She says to Takuya
san and Shinya. "Domo arigato," Takuya san and Shinya
say in unison. "Your names are Kanbara Takuya and
Kanbara Shinya, ne?" Takashi san asks. "Hai," They both
reply in unison, a bit surprised. "Well, have a good time
you three," She says. "I'll see you at the festival later,
Yorande chan," "Hai, we will," I reply. "Sayonara." Takuya
san bows as I slip on my wooden sandals." Nice meeting
you, I think."

"Is she psychic?" Takuya san asks as we walk down
the street. "Hai," I answer. I think so. "She knew all about
me when I first arrived here." "How DID you arrive here?"
Takuya san asks. "By airplane?" "No," I answer. "I had a
dream about being here. When I woke up, I was lying on
a futon in Takashi san's house. So I guess magically."
"Whoa," Takuya san says, stunned. "I'm just as stumped
as you are," I say. Takuya san chuckles. We chat some
more. When we arrive at 'Kino Shrine', Izumi san and the
others are there accompanied by another boy. "How's it
goin'?" She greets us. "Hey," I say. I stare at Kouji san.
He smiles. He looks sooooooo beautiful with a yukata
and with his hair tied up. I snap myself out of my daze
and motion to the boy who looks like Kouji san. "Who's
this?" "This is my twin brother, Kouichi," Kouji san says.
Hajimemashite, I say. "Hajimemashite, dozo yoroshku
onegai shimasu," The boy with short, blue hair says. That
means "Hello, how do you do?" "Hi," I say. "I'm Inguramu
Yorande." I bow. " Come on," Izumi san says. "Let's have
some fun."

We walk through the festival. It's beautiful.
Japanese lanterns, food stands, game
booths...everything. Takuya san, Shinya, Tomoki, and I
start playing the games. I try my luck at a goldfish booth. I
try to catch one, but it slips out of my net. "Aww," I groan.
I see pale hands touch mine. "Kouji san," I utter. "You
need to have patience," He murmurs. We wait silently.
The fish swim close to the net. Closer...closer...He's
almost there...He gets close enough for me to scoop him
into the net. "I got him!" I exclaim. Kouji san stands up. I
stand up and show the others that I had caught the
goldfish. They cheer. A little girl and her mom are passing
by the booth. She asks her mom for a goldfish, but her
mom says that they don't have time. The little girl starts to
cry. I give her my goldfish. She, immediately, stops crying.
"Domo arigato," The mom says, smiling. "Do
itashimashite," I reply. They walk on. Kouji san and the
others smile. "He needs a good home," I say. Kouji san
kisses me on the cheek and puts an arm around my
shoulder. I smile, embarassed. I see Izumi san smirk. We have so much fun.
Kouji san gives me a stuff rabbit he wins from another
booth. "Arigato!" I exclaim. "No problem, He replies. "It's
so cute!" Izumi san exclaims. "Hai," I answer. "You want
one, Izumi chan?" Junpei asks. Izumi san nodded, eyes
sparkling. Junpei drools, and as fast as lightning, runs
over to the ring toss booth. Kouji san has an
expressionless look on his face as Junpei, rapidly, flings
rings onto the pole. Takuya san joins him and the two get
into a fierce ring toss competition with the others cheering
them on. The game lasts up to time for Tanaka Taku. An
announcement is made and crowds of people quickly
gather over to a stage with a large drum I had noticed
earier. "Come on!" I shout, grabbing Kouji san's hand.
Izumi san grabs Tomoki and Takuya grabs Shinya. Junpei tries to carry all the stuffed animals he'd won for Izumi san.
We all run as fast as possible to avoid getting swept
through the crowd. By the time we get to the stage, a big
crowd had already gathered by the stage. I look around
around for Takashi san. She had said she'd be here. A
hand touches my shoulder. I turn around. Takashi san.
"Are you having a good time?" She asks. "Hai, I am," I
answer. She smiles. "Hold onto Kouji san. They're aren't
too many guys like him." I gasp. How does she know I'm
with Kouji san?! I didn't tell her about him! She really is
psychic!

A few moments later, everyone quiets down. An
annoucer, already on stage, announces Tanaka Taku.
Everybody cheers and claps as he walks on stage. He's a
young man wearing traditional Japanese drum clothing.
Everyone quiets down and he begins his performance.
He's really good! When he finishes, everyone claps and
shouts wildly. Soon, everyone clears from around the
stage. "Tanaka Taku is REALLY good at playing the
drum," I say. "Yeah," Takuya san agrees. "He's coming
back next spring," Izumi san says. "Really?" I ask. "Hai,"
She answers. "He's touring and traveling all over the
world. He'll be back for the 'Spring Festival.' " Takashi
san walks up to us."Did you enjoy yourselves?" "Hai!"
We all say in unison. I say good-bye to the others and
Takashi san and I go home. I hug her as soon as we get
back. "I NEVER want to leave Japan!" I cry, happily. "I'm
glad you're happy here," Takashi san says, chuckling.
"That's all I ever want you to be." She kisses my
forehead. "Oyasumi nasai." She then goes to bed. I stare
after her. She sounded as if I'm leaving Japan and never
coming back. I hope not.
