Chapter 8 I'm Leaving Japan

A/N: Enjoy.

Weeks later, I receive a letter from my mom. She
says she's coming to Japan on a short business trip
and wants to see me. A few days later, she arrives in
Tokyo Airport. Takashi san and I meet her there. I'm so
happy to see her! I tell her all about my time in Japan.
She tells me that she could've came and got me when I
was homesick. I tell her my friends convinced me to
stay here. I didn't tell her I'm dating someone now.
Kouji san and I had our first date 3 weeks ago.

*Flashback*

I stared up at the name of the restaurant. Even though
I've been in Japan for 7 1/2 months, I still don't know how
to read Japanese. (I can barely write it.) Kouji san
followed my gaze up at the sign. "It's called 'Shoho Kyu.' "
"Oh," I said. I looked back at the van Mr. Minamoto
drove. Kouichi, in the passenger seat, waved to us.
"Have fun, Ototo, Yorande san!" Kouji san rolled his
eyes. I snickered. "It must be nice having a brother."
Kouji san smiled slightly. "You want him?" "Iie," I said.
"He's yours. Come on!" I took his hand and pulled him
into the restaurant. A waiter seated us near a window
and gave us a menu. Like I said before, I don't know how
to read Japanese, so Kouji san helped me by asking
what foods I liked. I ended up ordering sushi, with a glass
of water. Kouji san had ordered sushi with green tea.
Yuck! We chatted and talked while waiting for our food. I
told him my mom was here in Japan on a business trip.
He said he'd like to meet her one day. Our food came
later. It was delicious, as usual. After the sushi, green
tea, and water was gone, Kouji san hailed the waiter for
the check. While he did that, I slouched in the chair(even
though it's bad manners) and let my food digest. I burped
loudly. "Excuse me," I said. Kouji san nodded. The waiter
brought the check and he paid. I stood up and stretched.
"Oooh, I'm tired. I ought to sleep well tonight." And I did.
Knowing that Kouji san loves me no matter what may
come between us.

*End Flashback*

That was the best night of my life. Yes, Mr. Minamoto
came and picked us up. Anyway, I'm sitting on the couch
watching some anime on TV. It's got giant robots in it. Boring.
Takashi san walks up to me. "Yorande chan," She says.
"That was your mother on the telephone. She said she is coming to pick
you up because she wants to tell you something."
"What about?" I ask. "It's best if
she tells you herself," Takashi san replies. Takashi san
looks worried. This can't be good.

Mom picks me up the next day in a car she rented.
We're not going anywhere. Just driving around.
"Yolanda," my mom says. "I'm going back to America two
days from now and I really want you to come home."
"What?!" I say, shocked." I don't wanna leave!" "I know,"
She says. "But you're missing a lot of school. Mrs.
Winston is wondering why you haven't reported back to
school. "I'll make up the missed days here!" I exclaim.
"Please don't make me come home! Please!" I cry. I pull
off my glasses. "Aww," Mom says. She stops the car and
pulls me into a hug. I sniffle, thinking about Kouji san and
the others. 'What am I gonna tell them?' I think. 'They'll
be devastated!' Especially Kouji san. Thinking about
leaving him makes me cry harder.

I gather everybody over to my house the next day.
"What's up?" Takuya san asks. He sits Indian style next
to me. Kouji san on the other side. I feel tears in my
eyes. I blink them away. "I have some bad news," I
announce. "I'm leaving Japan." "NANI?!" Everyone says
in unison. "Doshite?!" Takuya san and Kouji san
demand. "My mom wants me back home because my
other teachers are wondering where I am and she
misses me." "When are you leaving?" Kouji san
demands. "The day after tomorrow," I reply. Tomoki's
already crying. "Iie! Iie! Iie!" Izumi san hugs him. Tears
roll down her cheeks. Kouji san curses under his breath.
He's really mad. I don't blame him. Kouichi is silent, but
looks sad. So does Shinya. Junpei shakes his head,
sadly. Takuya san seems lost in thought. I start to cry. I
feel warm arms surround me in a hug. It's Kouji san. I
take off my glasses, throw them to the floor, and bury my
face in his shoulder. Why did my mom do this to me?! I'm
happily enjoying Japan and she comes along and tells
me I have to go home! It's not fair! I can't be mad at her,
though. She misses me at home and she wants me to
get a good education. The room is dead silent except for
Tomoki's sobbing. Time seems to stand still. Takuya san
breaks the silence after what seems like an eternity.
"You'll still e-mail and write us often, right?" He asks,
softly. He picks up my glasses and hands them back to
me. I pull away from Kouji san and take them. I wipe my
eyes and face with my shirt sleeve before putting them
back on. Everyone stares hard at me, waiting for a reply
to Takuya san's question. "Hai," I murmur.

Another chapter done.
