Chapter 3: Destroyer, the Black Dragon
"We found him....Haruno Sakura..... He was infront of her, as if.....and such to his body, it looks like he was beaten rather.......young lady, the mark on his neck had spread to.....the middle of a small crater.....Naruto nowhere to be found.." Sasuke's conciousness floated in and out, catching parts of the conversation going on near him. A voice he recognized was doing the speaking. '...Kakashi-sensei?...' Another recognizable voice answered Kakashi. "We can assume it was Itachi's doing from the way Sakura was killed...Akatsuki must have come for him..." '....Yondaime....? Her name...Tsu...Tsunade...wait....Itachi?......who...Naruto....Sakura..!' Suddenly Sasuke shot up in his bed, wide awake. "Sakura! Naruto! No! No, no, no not again...! Mara! Why.....?" Sasuke had hot tears running down his cheeks as he stared at the wall infront of him. He turned to face Kakashi and Tsunade, both of him had moved instantly to his sides, to hold him down. "Kakashi-sensei! Yondaime! Tell me it isn't true! Sakura...she...Itachi..that bastard he killed her and took Naruto! Tell me their ok!!" He begged, afraid that the dream he had been having over and over again while unconcious was true. " Calm down Sasuke, and we will tell you what happened." Kakashi said. Sasuke immediately quieted, already certained he knew what happened. His dream played in his mind again, and as it did his anger at Itachi grew. 'First our entire family...now the only friends I have...why Itachi? Why do you torture me like this... why do you always leave me behind...' Sasuke's calm face belied his inner turmoil, his eyes focusing on Kakashi as he listened to him. "....took Naruto with him. I can't tell you why because that is classified. Sakura is dead...It looks like Itachi used his Mangekyo Sharingan on her, as well as numerous cut marks on her body. Perhaps Kisame was involved as well. We don't know where they took Naruto, but the ANBU are out search right now and..." "How long have I been out?" Sasuke demanded. "Well...," Tsunade began, "I'd say about three days... you've healed quite fast since you been here, your wounds are almost completely healed. I still recommend about 3 days to replenish your chakra reserves, you were quite drained when you arrived. A few days bed rest and..." "I don't need it." "Yes you do...I'm speakin as both a doctor and as the Hokage."
"I don't care. I will kill Itachi...He will pay for killing my family...my friends...my wife..." "Wait a minute...Sasuke what are you talkin about? Your not married..who is this wife your talkin about." Kakashi spoke up. "I remember seeing Mara's body....lying burnt and bruised in the bloodied mud..." As Sasuke spoke, the curse seal began to spread over his body unseen, although he still sat still and his calm visage never changed. "Sasuke, you were never married, your only 16, and the area where you were found was on Training Field 3. It hasn't rained in 2 weeks. Who is Mara?" Sasuke looked up, his face uncertain and his body relaxed, the seal having retreated in the face of his confusion. "Who? My wife of 3 years. She..she was pregnant...I...wait...Where is my squad? Servi, Chrono, Martin, Roger? What happened to them?" Kakashi and Tsunade looked at each other, then back at Sasuke. "What are you talking about Sasuke? We don't know those people. Are you alright?" He grumbled as he stared at his hands, hands that seem so young, smooth and unscared by constant battle.
"The name is Jiro...Where am I? I was on the battlefield near Strayfield last I remember..." He stopped and looked up. 'Strayfield? Where the hell is Strayfield? Battlefield..I..' A body strewn battlefield flashes in his memories, followed by the training field and Sakura laying on the ground bleeding near a Naruto, surrounded by fiery red chakra. ".....Sasuke! Answer me!" Sasuke looked up at Tsunade. "I think you might be confused. Perhaps....his memory has been scrambled but that would not explain these people he asked about..." Tsunade said, turning to Kakashi when she gained Sasuke's attention. Kakashi asked, "Sasuke tell us what happened. What happened before you where knocked unconcious?" Sasuke looks down and thinks back, the scene from a few days previous coming easily as his eyes grow distant. The dream, no, the nightmare came out of his mouth as he remembered it, every vivid detail.
***Flashback***
"We were training...Me, Sakura, and Naruto. Naruto was using me to help him increase his chakra reserves and control, and helping me increase my speed and ability with my Sharingan by creating multiple clones, with as little chakra as possible. I...was using them to help me train using a technique my brother once used...to increase his ability with his Sharingan. Then Naruto and Sakura were practicing taijutsu together. The baka, Naruto, was better at taijutsu than Sakura, so he was helping her out, while I tried to refine my chakra control. It was harder than normal, because of this stupid curse seal. Every time I used a large amount of chakra, like when I use my Sharingan, or use a technique I learn with it, the curse seal would start to spread. I fought it down everytime, and it was getting easier to do. I had just called Naruto over to help me test my reaction time fighting the curse seal, when He appeared."
Sasuke's visage grew rage clouded momentarily, fading quickly. His eyes, still distant, became hard flecks of obsidian, his neck throbbed as the curse seal struggled to overcome his will. "He landed in the middle of the clearing between me and Naruto, who moved instantly to cover Sakura. He turned slowly, measuring each of us. He froze slightly when he spotted me, my curse seal had broken free as my hatred of Itachi consumed me. His eyes widened slightly, the look of surprise on his face a satisfaction to me. Only I could tell, to everyone else his face probably looked the same. Then his eyes narrowed and he seemed to laugh at me. He turned his back on me and attacked Naruto, sending his multiple clones flying everywhere, and knocking him momentarily from the clearing. With a speed and strength I never knew I had, I flew at Itachi, although I missed. I destroyed a small part of the ground in my attack, and slid a few feet before turning, activating my Sharingan and charging him again. Even with the curse seal's power..."Sasuke faltered here, rage at still being unable to defeat Itachi, hatred that his brother was so powerful.
Kakashi spoke up, "Even with the power of the curse seal, you couldn't defeat him? What happened to the seal I put on the curse?" Sasuke suddenly focused on Kakashi. "I...I released it. I didn't know how long it would be until it could be removed and the seal limited the amount of chakra I could mold to keep the curse at bay. I figured I need to get used to it, and perhaps I might over come it. I needed to, to be ready when....Itachi....I was knocked into a tree and blacked out for a moment. My vision cleared just as I heard Sakura scream. I looked up to see Kisame attacking Sakura. I tried to get up to help her, but Itachi trapped me in an genjutsu. While I struggled to get free, due to the drain the seal had on my chakra, Naruto showed up again, saving Sakura from being killed. His clones checked to see if she was ok, while he and a few others attacked the sharkman...Kisame destroyed some of Naruto's clones, and manage to damage Sakura again. It was then...the red chakra appeared again...He tried to do his Naruto Rendan, but Kisame easily dodged it. I had just broke free of the genjutsu when I saw the baka connect a Rasengan with Kisame and he disappeared. Then he froze and cried out in pain."
"I could tell that he was caught by the Mangekyo Sharingan. Sakura had snuck over to me and attended some of my wounds, but Naruto need her help more. I told her I would distract Itachi and told her to help him. I formed the hand seal for the Chidori and charged Itachi. He was so absorbed in his attack and certain that I was still stuck in the genjutsu, I caught him off guard and just barely missed him. His break in concentration freed Naruto, who was being treated by Sakura. I attacked Itachi continously, trying to keep him off guard, but nothing I tried worked. I used the speed I got from Lee, with my own curse enhanced speed, but I still couldn't touch him." By this point, the curse had spread over his back and was creeping up his neck and down his arms. This was unseen as his high collar and long sleeves covered the cursed areas. Kisame showed up again and attacked Sakura and Naruto. Naruto barely managed to save them, but Kisame caught them before they could recover from the previous attack and sent Sakura flying into a tree. She was knocked out and he engaged Naruto, who, despite nurmerous cuts and bruise, was still fighting. He tried to make his way over to Sakura, while using bunshins to hold Kisame off but it wasn't working." Sasuke's fists were clenching and unclenching rapidly. Kakashi and Tsunade could easily feel the rage coming off of Sasuke, but it was the other feeling, something neither had ever felt before, that alarmed them. The air felt heavy and the building was starting to shake.
"Itachi pulled out a short sword and began attacking me with it, his eyes mocking me. I was getting tired and couldn't hold the the curse seal for too much longer. Nearly out of chakra, I deactivated my Sharingan and just did my best to defend my self with a kunai. I barely manage to dodge or block even a quarter of his attacks. Then Itachi suddenly disappear and as I searched for him, appeared behind me knocking me into a tree. As I rebounded of the tree, his foot landed in the middle of my back. I...started to lose conciousness so he turned and went to Sakura, who had awoken and was trying to help Naruto with Kisame. Itachi said something that caught her attention, but I was unable to make it out, but....I saw her fall...Nartuo became even angrier and his aura flaired. I...even after all these years, training...fighting...still I can't defeat him. I lost my family...and now...my friends...Damn you Itachi! I WILL kill you!!"
As he uttered the last word, the curse completely consumed his body, a deep purple aura surrounding him. When it sprang into existance, Tsunade and Kakashi barely had time to spring out of the way to avoid it. Then Kakashi noticed something different about his aura. Instead of purple and black, it was purple and gold. The gold streaked through the purple of the aura. The heaviness in the air became dense, almost as if the air had suddenly become a much heavier element. They felt as if it would sufficate them and the building was fairing no better, the rumbling and shaking causing several items to fall, the building cracking in some places. The amount of energy Sasuke emitted was blowing out lights everywhere and could be felt by those even in the farthest reaches of Konoha. Sasuke climbed out of the bed and opened the window, jumping out without a backward glance. He went so far with that first leap that it seemed as if he were flying, not leaping. In seconds he was at the Village gate and gone in search of Itachi, before Tsunade and Kakashi could react. Speechless and immobile with something akin to fear, they could only watch the disappearing speck of black/gold that was Sasuke. With a glance, an unspoken agreement passed between them. Kakashi immediately left, hoping to catch or atleast catch up to Sasuke, while Tsunade left to gather the ANBU to send them after. She knew that at the rate and speed Sasuke was traveling, he would be beyond their reach and borders probably long before she could summon the ANBU. While every one wonder what the dreadful surge of power was, fearing the Kyuubi or something like it had appeared, Kakashi and Tsunade could only hope that Sasuke didn't go mad with this outrageous amount of power that he had obtained through unknown means, as well as wonder about his mental state and screwed memory.
