CHAPTER 12
Serena plopped down on the ground, sweat dripping from her face. She had been chasing Trunks and Goten for over two hours and she hadn't even come close to catching them. Vegeta, during it all, had laughed his ass off at her expense.
"Get up now!! Use the element of surprise to get the brats!" Vegeta ordered when the boys were out of hearing range.
Serena growled in frustration as she got to her feet. What did he think she was trying to do?! They could sense her coming! How can she compete against that? She climbed through the bushes and ducked under low branches. She sighed and tugged at her hair when it became stuck on the bushes. When she was free, she followed the giggles coming from a small clearing.
"They're not expecting me…" she said to herself, crawling behind a giant tree. The boys were talking to themselves about kami knows what. She silently climbed up right above them and steadies herself and waited. She remembered what Luna had said once.
"Don't go rushing into battle…You'll know when the time's right…" she recalled.
"Luna's right. I'll know when the time's right…" She waited another minute, then, when she saw her moment, sprang off the tree and onto them. She yelled loudly in order to shock them, hoping it would be enough to keep them from running. They boys weren't expecting her to find them, so they didn't bother searching for her ki.
"AHHH!!!!!" the boys screamed as she descended down upon them, creating a small dog pile as a result. She immediately got off and helped them off.
"I'm sorry I hope I didn't hurt you. It's just that…" began Serena. She bowed to them in apology. "I'm sorry."
"It's alright," Trunks dusted himself off. He was a little angry that she had caught them off guard. What would his father say about that?
"Let's go back! I'm sort of hungry now!" Goten exclaimed, leaping towards where Vegeta was still sitting. Trunks and Serena nodded.
"You know, it's amazing that you could master ten times earth's normal gravity like that. Now you're walking under it like it's nothing," Goten commended. "Most humans can't do that-" Suddenly, the boys felt something.
"Hey Goten? Do you feel that?" Trunks nervously asked feeling a little perturbed. Goten nodded. "I was hoping you wouldn't say that…Let's get back to my father." They quickened their pace.
"What's wrong? What do you feel?" Serena asked, but she felt it to, though only subconsciously. She had barely developed that skill today during the training. She closed her eyes, still continuing to walk, and concentrated. The atmosphere had become quite cold for the warm, summer day she realized. She could just barely sense a presence over the hill, two in fact. "Actually I do sense something…"
"Now concentrate on it and only it," explained Trunks as he waited for Serena to do it. "Now do you feel anything?" Then she felt it, but only for a split second, and it went away.
"It was horrible…Oh no," Serena shuddered when she recalled where she had felt it before. "It's-"
She was cut off by screaming and a sudden burst of sheer power that blew her back. She crossed her arms over her chest and brought her head down. She tried to fight the energy, but was driven back even further.
"Dad!"-
"Vegeta!" the boys said at the same time. The darted off towards him, leaving Serena to fend for herself. When the power finally died down, she was able to make her way towards Vegeta, but instead of finding him, she found this blond-headed guy wiping blood from his mouth and picking himself off the newly torn up ground, but falling back to his knees. His shoulder was dislocated, and his other arm held his shoulder in support.
"Vegeta?" she asked, seeing the same defiant and proud look in the man's eyes as her trainer's. He turned to her and gasped.
"Get out of here! NOW!!" he ordered. Serena watched as the two boys fell from the sky out of no where. They also had the golden hair sticking up. She swung around to face Vegeta again. His eyes held fear, though he seemed to try and hide it. "GO!!!"
Serena nodded, hesitantly.
"…soon…" Serena whipped back around, face to face with Kakou. She let out a sharp shriek and fell backward.
"Kakou!" she yelled as Kakou made a small attempt to grab her. "Let me go!" She demanded, trying to kick her. Vegeta charged at Kakou, but she easily stepped aside and hit him on the back with her sharp claws. The boys ran to his side. They knew that if they tried, they would only end up worse than him.
"Serena!!" They yelled out to her, powerless to help.
"I was going to let you live, but I see you went to get help," her eyes flashed dangerously as she glanced at Vegeta. "You got help from monkeys!" Kakou said in a shrill voice. She definitely wasn't pleased with the 'monkeys'. She threw Serena into a nearby tree, snapping it in half. "I will kill you, Sailor Moon, you AND your brother!!" Serena felt a burst of energy as she picked herself off the cold earth.
"Kakou! I will kill you for what you did!" Serena stared at the demon in front of her.
"SERENA!! GET OUT OF HERE NOW!!" Vegeta commanded, but Serena shook her head.
"And leave you guys? Never, I'll make this monster pay for all the pain and devastation she caused to this world! I'll tear her limb by limb until she's into a thousand pieces and then stomp on them! Then I'll rip out her heart and let it rot in the sun!!" She was a little surprised by her words, and the force behind them. What surprised her even more was the fact that she meant every word. She wanted to make Kakou pay for her loss and her sorrow. And she wasn't going to let anything stand in her way.
Kakou glared murderously at Serena, and advanced towards her. She raised her hand and called to her lightning. Dark, angry clouds formed above their heads and the thunder was deafening. The lightning struck behind Kakou as she walked forth only to make her more menacing as it up the gloomy sky. Serena looked towards her friends for help, but Vegeta was having trouble getting up, the boys, on the other hand, looked determined to help her out. They stared at each other and nodded, walking equal distance apart, then nodded again.
"FU-SION-HA!!" they yelled as a bright light filled the area. Serena watched curiously as the boys did a little dance. Even Kakou stopped and watch when she noticed the light.
When the light died down, Serena couldn't see Goten or Trunks, but this cocky boy with long, golden hair. She watched Kakou's expression change from smug to horror. She turned back to the boy.
"I am Gotenks, and at my hands, you will meet your end," he said confidently. Kakou's expression turned back to smug. Serena could hear both Trunks AND Goten's voice, speaking as if one.
"I see you mastered the art of fusion…well, I guess this changes everything," Kakou said, walking backwards a little towards the shadowed forest. She knew she could beat him, but she sensed others coming quickly, and she didn't want to take a chance. She was not going to be like her family. She won't be dishonored and defeated like her brothers and father was.
"Ah-ah-ah…" Gotenks waved a finger in a 'you shouldn't do that' way. "This ends here and now."
"Not now. Soon though, soon…" Kakou said conceitedly, sending a chill up Serena's spine. Gotenks dived at her when he noticed she was slowly vanishing, but only ended up with dirt in his mouth.
"She's too fast!" he cursed himself slightly at his slowness. Serena walked over to Vegeta to help him up, but he just swatted her hand away and slowly got to his feet, still holding his dislocated arm.
"Are you guys alright!" a voice called from the sky. Serena and Gotenks turned their heads to see five people flying towards them.
