Chapter 31
Lluvia walked in to the infirmary to find a very worried Jenika pacing agitatedly about her assigned room, clutching a fussing baby Rayne tightly to her chest. An unbidden shiver crawled up Lluvia's spine as she noted her oldest friend's absence. Oh, shit, she thought. I'm getting a really bad feeling about this!
"Where's Tris?" she asked quickly. The puzzled stare Jen gave her in return didn't do much to comfort her misgivings.
"Where…? Yu-vee! What do you mean? He's supposed to be with you! You sent for him earlier this morning and…and…" Lluvia's unhappy look and slow shake of her head told the new mother that this had not been the case at all.
"Oh, Kami! What happened to Tris?" Jenika cried out in dismay, and Illuvia quickly gathered both her friend and the baby in a strong, calming hug.
After taking a few deep breaths, a shaking Jenika pulled herself together and informed Lluvia that, in the early hours of the morning, a couple of Saiya-jin warriors had entered the infirmary, asking for Tristan. They told the synth-guit player that his friend had to see him right away and that all would be explained when they delivered him to her. Not thinking that anything was amiss, an exhausted Jen had fallen back asleep once the three of them had departed. The cries of her hungry newborn a few hours later awoke her, but Tristan had not yet returned.
"Didn't you realize that I can always reach you or Tris with our MAARCU's? Why would I ever bother to contact either of you through messengers, let alone Saiya-jin ones?"
Jen shook her head in sad apology. "I'm sorry, Yu-vee! I guess that we were both so worn out from the performance and Rayne's birth last night that we didn't question the oddness of it! Do you have any idea where they took him?"
"No, I don't," Lluvia replied, thoughtfully chewing at her lower lip. "But the first order of business is to get you and the baby out of here and onto the transport post-haste."
"But, we can't leave without Tristan…" Jenika began to protest, until she saw the set look in Lluvia's midnight eyes. It was the same one that Willard the pilot had seen in them, and the blond singer momentarily trembled at the sight.
"My dear, I guaran-damn-tee that Tris will be with you both and on the ship within the hour! You can take that promise to the bank! There is something exceedingly rotten in the state of Vegeta-sei," she growled softly to herself. "And I am going to find out exactly what that is!"
A baffled Jenika stood back, watching as Lluvia picked up the small pitcher of water sitting next to the bed, and splashed it over her face. She then undid the frog fasteners from her neck down and dribbled the remainder all over her chest before redoing the clasps. Flashing a sly wink and smile to Jenika, she said, "Addy and Raoul are waiting in the wings to fetch you and Rayne, so just sit tight!"
In trying to pass some time, the two restless Saiya-jin guards had fallen into an intense verbal argument regarding the power levels of Ice-jins versus Saiya-jins. The bigger one stood firm, passionately asserting that Elite Saiya-jins were far more powerful and could never be beaten by mere lizardoids. Whereas the other countered that he'd heard that Ice-jins could transform multiple times, causing their energy levels to reach unheard-of heights. The bigger one insisted that was just an unsubstantiated rumor started by Frieza's followers, which they used to scare the Saiya-jins into obedience. Their discussion was becoming more vocal and heated, appearing to Addy and Raoul as if the two warriors were actually going to come to blows over the subject.
Without warning, Lluvia awkwardly burst outward from the infirmary doors clipping one of the guards as she went past, reeling on unsteady feet until she slammed a shoulder against the far wall. She appeared as if she had broken out into a drenching sweat and could hardly keep on her feet. It was enough to cut short the astonished guards' spirited squabble.
"Hey, girlie!" called out the larger warrior, as Lluvia slid down the wall, and gracelessly landed on her behind with her legs splayed outward.
"Huh?" She blinked dazedly and squinted up at the guard like she'd never seen him before.
"What's up with you, female?" asked the other guard, who was rewarded with a dopey, intoxicated grin.
"Wassup? Waasssaapp!" she slurred, giggling uncontrollably, and pointed at the two of them. "WASSSSSAAAPP!"
Go, Yu-vee, go, silently cheered Adarath from his vantage point.
Suspicious, but overcome with a natural curiosity as to why the ningen female was acting the way she was, since no medical treatment either of them had ever heard of had side-effects like this, the Saiya-jins warily approached her. Her hysterical laugher had stopped and Lluvia was absently wiping at her moistened brow. She'd grabbed the lapels of her jacket and was busily flapping them about her.
"Hoo-wee! Is it hot in here or is it just me?" Rising on wobbly legs, she started to stagger away from the nearing Saiya-jins. Carelessly slipping off her jacket, she dragged it behind her with one arm still half-encased in its inside-out sleeve.
"Yo, chickie!" No reaction.
"Hey, baby, where you going like that?" The guards were falling into full pursuit of the seemingly inebriated Lluvia, forgetting their post completely.
Like moths to a flame, smiled Adarath. Raoul was grinning just as widely, thinking the same thing.
Periodically stumbling over her own feet, Lluvia was making her unsteady way into an unoccupied corridor, keeping a constant distance ahead of her inquisitive pursuers. The jacket finally slipped out of her loose grasp and onto the floor. One of the guards stopped to pick it up, curiously sniffing her scent on the black leather bunched in his hand.
"Damn!" she muttered aloud. "This Kami-awful heat! It's like a freakin' oven in here! I can't stand it!" She undid the fasteners on her dampened top and shrugged it off, carelessly twirling the garment in her right hand as she continued on her way, careening from on side of the corridor to the other.
Just before she rounded the next corner, she clumsily spun around and gave the two guards a smiling wink. Her loosened hair hung past her shoulders, and she used her left hand to drape it in place on the left side of her neck. She didn't want the Saiya-jins to catch a glimpse of Bardock's bonding mark. Not just yet… What she did let them see made their eyes widen at the sight of her perky, pink-tipped assets.
She felt a momentary stab of guilt at allowing any man, other than her Bardock, to see her like this, but she had no choice. The safe and immediate extrication of Jen and the baby from the infirmary was far more important than showing a little extra skin.
Adding a little skip to her step, Lluvia turned her back towards them, and playfully tossed her top over her shoulder. This time, both the Saiya-jins stopped short to watch the shimmering piece of clothing sail in a quick arc and land directly at their feet. When they raised their heads, the pale female had disappeared from view. Both their tails had come unfurled from about their waists and were flicking in whip-like snaps behind them
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" asked the bigger guard.
"I'm way ahead of you, buddy!" replied the other Saiya-jin, as they both broke into a sprint, roughly shoving at each other, so that one of them would be the first to reach their enticing quarry.
This was the singular opportunity for which Adarath and Raoul had been waiting. The two swiftly slipped out of their hidey-hole and through the doors to the infirmary.
There was no trace of the sexy alien female anywhere, other than a trace of her beguiling scent lingering in the air. The corridor she'd gone into was a dead-end, so there was no way in hell she could've given them the slip. Or had she?
The two Saiya-jin guards' heads snapped around to find a half-naked, steady-as-a-rock Lluvia standing right behind them. She was sporting a wickedly triumphant grin, holding their two tails securely, one in each hand; her vice-strong grip not boding an easy escape for either. "Now, which one of you clever lads would like to tell me where I might find the heir apparent to this mudball you call home?" she asked calmly.
"Fuck you, bitch! We don't have to tell you anything!" spat the brawnier of the two. That remark earned him an extra-hard squeeze on his tail, which shot a paralyzing bolt of pain straight up his spine, exploding into the base of his skull. The other guard's face lost most of its color as he watched the larger Saiya-jin drop heavily onto his knees, gasping with searing agony. Saiya-jins dreaded having their tails squeezed for any reason; it was the one pain none of them could endure.
Lluvia's eyes narrowed as she gave them each a condescending smile. In her most honeyed voice, she said, "It's a crying shame that you feel that way, because that was most definitely the wrong answer! However, because I'm such a softie at heart, I'll let you go for best two out of three. Or else," her voice downshifted into an ominous growl. "We all can just skip the bonus round of our little quiz show and dive headfirst into the penalty phase!"
