Chapter 9: Hear, Oh Hear The Wedding Bells!
Week 9, July 1
Kibito and Orana had been locked in their room for a whole three weeks, separated from everyone else. All day they slept in one another’s arms, all night they spent reveling in one another’s presence. All days, but the first of July…
So as not to wake her, Kibito slipped away from his mate, who was even more exhausted than usual from the previous night’s love making. Yet Kibito was awake and ready. After three cups of coffee in the kitchen, he headed out the door of Kitty’s mansion and transported to the nearest human settlement.
Hours and hours he searched, but no shop seemed to have what he was looking for. He looked on earth, Aniria, neo-Vejita, and was finally struck by a thought. He transported himself to a human settlement on Tuatha-sei. The same results…everything was either too fancy, too plain, too cheap, or too delicate. He was about to give up when he saw a small dark shop on the street corner. What the Hell. Inside, everything was plainer, yet had a distinctively elegant air. Then, he saw it. Just what he was looking for.
It was made of platinum with a small vein of gold in the middle, inlaid with two leaves of green gold. Between them was a blue diamond, carved in the shape of a forget-me-not. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Kibito spun around to see a short elderly man with square spectacles. “I acquired that specimen years ago…I inherited that…my great grandfather bought it from a lovely girl with silvery hair and eyes. She was under her luck and needed money. She claimed that it was made by her mother----a silver smith. According to her, it’s 200 years old, but that might not be true.” Kibito’s eyes had bugged when he hear the description of the seller, and now he turned to the old man.
“May I see it?”
“Sure. Doubt you can afford it, though. That’s pure platinum mixed with diamond dust, and a special kind of gold from planet Earth called Black Hills gold, mixed with green sapphire dust, and yellow gold mixed with yellow sapphire dust.” he turned it over in his hands, and noticed the mark on the inside. It was the same as the mark on Orana’s scabbard.
“She told the truth.” The old man’s eyes bugged. “This was made by my mate’s mother. That’s the same mark on the scabbard of my mate’s sword.” He carefully explained the story of the scabbard and sword. “As for age, I wouldn’t doubt her. Orana is over 230 years of age, herself.”
“But smithing wasn’t that refined back then!”
“Not among humans. My mate is Orana Oraria D’Lica, the wingless Tratho, most infamous silver/black smith in the solar system.” Moments later, Kibito strolled out of the shop carrying a small box covered in black velvet.
“Kibito…” Orana sighed, rolling to his side of the bed. Instead of finding her self in his muscular arms, she found herself on the floor. Fully wakened, she looked around. Her mate was nowhere to be seen. “Kibito?” She panicked. “Kibito!” The door flew open.
“You called?” Orana flung her arms around him, hiding her face in his chest.
“Oh, Kibito, I thought you’d left me again!” she sobbed, near tears. He embraced her tightly, then helped her into a grey fleece robe.
“Don’t worry Rana.” he soothed. “I promise from this day forth, I’ll never leave you again. Now put this on before you catch cold.” They just sat in each others arms for a moment, just enjoying one another’s warmth, then Kibito pulled Orana into his lap, taking the box from his pocket. “Rana, we need to talk.” The tone in his voice worried her. “We’ve been in love for two centuries now, ne?” She nodded. “I think it’s time we think of the future.” Her heart skipped a beat. “I don’t know what we shall encounter, but I know one thing…” He opened the box behind his back, and brought out his hand. “I wish to encounter it together.” A look of shock covered her face. It was her mother’s ring, on the platinum chain she’d made for her mother’s last birthday.
“But…” she whispered. “I sold those to pay off the debt, the year before I met you…”
“And I bought them. And I’ll return them on one condition…” he hung the chain and ring around her neck, and lifted her chin.
“What’s that?” she whispered, gazing into his eyes.
“Live at my side, for ever more, tolerate my mistakes and save my ass whenever I need it. Live with me…as my wife.” Her eyes sprung open.
“Are you…are you serious?!” He nodded. “Once again…” she lay a hand on his chest. “I thought you’d never ask. He claimed her lips and allowed his mouth to slide down her neck. “I thought you’d never ask.”

Week 10, July 9
All was a hustle and a bustle about the Opalace; nearly everyone had heard of Kibito and Orana’s engagement, and all who had were excited----especially Kaioshin and Melaza. Ambrosia wouldn’t be able to attend, but Melaza would, and so would Shin. The plans were magnificent. After the wedding, there’d be a feast, and a ball. Finally the big day came, and Shin just couldn’t wait. He headed straight to the grand room, where everyone was waiting. He knew that Anirian weddings didn’t take nearly as much time as Earth weddings. No frills, no thrills, no unnecessary ceremony. Even so, he had no idea what to expect. Finally, it was time.
He and Kibito, dressed once more in their formal wrap around armor, walked along the right wall to the front of the room. Moments later, Orana and her older sister Aurora slowly followed the left wall to the front of the room. Orana wore an elegant silver gown, with a sprig of baby’s breath tucked into her hair. Aurora and Shin stepped off to the side. The crowd parted for a short woman with hair of every color of the rainbow. It was Likana, keeper of the law, of tradition, and channeler of the spirit of mother Lica. She turned to face the crowd.
“Dearly beloved and highly regarded, we are gathered here to day to witness the union of this man and woman.” She turned to Kibito. “Kibito of the great Kai Planet, Do you take this woman, to be your lawfully and spiritually wedded wife, to have and to hold, through sickness of body and mind, through health of the same, through hardship and windfall, through life and through death?” Kibito turned to Orana and took her hand.
“I do.” She turned to Orana.
“And do you, Orana Oraria, take this man to be your lawfully and spiritually wedded husband, to have and to hold, through sickness of body and mind, through health of the same, through hardship and windfall, through life and through death?”
“I…I do.”
“Then by the power invested in me by the great Mother Lica, I hereby pronounce you, man and wife.” They embraced, and sank fang into each other’s necks, then pulled away. Once again, they held the wounds together, reveling in the warm high that washed over them. When the ecstasy seceded, they pulled a way and licked the blood from each others necks. That done, Kibito lay his lips to hers, and the crowd began to cheer. After ward, there was a banquet, but Shin wasn’t very hungry. Two glasses of elderberry wine were enough for him, then he headed into the great hall to mingle.

Aniranian music filled the hall, like the song of the ocean. The lilting tones, the soft and steady rhythm, the combination of sweet and sour…it was enough to drive him mad. Shin closed his eyes and sighed. He was rather disappointed when the song was over, but the Lican in charge of the music was Jeice’s mate, Roxxanne, and she had a softness for earth music. She put on a record from earth. No sooner had Shin opened his eyes when he saw a most beautiful creature walking toward him. Her dress was of a soft silver, and extremely low cut, baring full, creamy skinned breasts. It had no sleeves or straps, with a bodice that laced up the front, and the lower half was soft and full. In the back was a slit for her tail, covered by a curtain of fabric. Around her neck was a fragile silver chain and a tiny teardrop of opal. Her eyes were soft and powdered with lavender, her hair and tail like velvet. Her sandals were white with straps as delicate as a spider’s web. She was so beautiful…he hardly recognized her. But one look into her fathomless black eyes, and he knew.
“Well!” Melaza smirked. “Are you to just stare openmouthed? For if so, I shall hie me off and find some other man my size!” Shin gaped, but finally caught control of himself. He bowed and held out his hand.
“Do me the honor of a dance, my kitten?” She took his hand and smiled.
“I’d be delighted.” Another Earth song, (one by a human female) came on and they began to sway in one another’s arms.
* Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you? *
Shin had never imagined that he’d be dancing cheek to cheek with Melaza----never. But now he was having a wonderful time.
* It’s inevitable, that we’re gonna get down to it… *
Her skin was so soft against his, so warm and fragrant. He was hardly surprised when he felt her tail curl lightly around his waist, almost possessively. Her silvery lavender hair was loose for once, and the scent of lilacs, mead, sugar and pineapple overwhelmed him so. He couldn’t help but bury his face in the soft mass of fragrant hair before him. The feeling of his warm breath on her neck provoked an odd sound from her throat---like a very soft gasp. She pulled him closer.
* Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you? *
For some reason, it didn’t seem wrong…it seemed…right. Surely something that smelled so wonderful would be even more divine in taste…Having lost the ability to think long ago, he nuzzled her neck, rubbing his nose against her collar bone. She sighed, and her tail tightened around his waist. Taking this as permission, he lay his lips upon her neck in a kiss so light and airy, her arms moved up to his shoulders, stroking the nape of his neck. He nipped a slight bit, letting his tongue trail over her flesh. When he finally pulled away for lack of air, a soft sigh led him to straighten his neck and look down into her deep black eyes. He knew that look…he knew what she wanted…
* It’s inevitable… *
Gentle as a summer breeze he cupped her chin in the crook of his forefinger and thumb, slightly tilting her head back. She nearly passed out as she felt his tongue slide between her lips, to caress the inside of her upper lip. They had long since stopped dancing, and every one was staring at them. Apparently Roxxanne had noticed as well, because she changed the record to an extremely old song from Earth, and turned the volume up all the way.
* CHILDREN BEHAVE!!! *
The blast from the record player jarred them from their romance.
* That’s what they say, when we’re together. And watch how you play… *
They broke apart blushing like mad, as the snickering crowd receded. Roxxanne turned the volume back down and changed the record again. Shin and Melaza looked at each other as though ashamed. He coughed and looked at the floor. “So sorry, Melaza.” he muttered. She shook her head.
“Don’t be, Chien.” She turned to leave. “The fault wasn’t entirely yours.’’ Before he could follow, she was gone. Melaza’s behavior of late had been confusing him. She’d been so cruel to him; now over the last few weeks, she’d become more tolerant of him----nay----Even fond of him. She become kinder----more like Ambrosia every…
He gasped. She’d called him ‘Chien!’ Just like Ambrosia! The more he thought about it, the more he realized. The eyes, the tail, the musk, the voice, even the chi level…all were the same. And they were both gaining weight, though he was too polite to mention it. Get Ambrosia in the light, or Melaza ‘neath the moons…

A/N: I didn’t have the lyrics to that song when I wrote this, so they may be a little off.
