Prologue

"Father, where are we going?" the impatient Saiyan teen asked.

"You'll find out soon enough," he responded.

She sighed and followed him. The sky was inky black. Night had fallen upon the Planet Vegeta. The teen glanced up at the sky and watched the winking stars.

He stopped, suddenly and she almost ran into him.

"Amara," he said.

"Yes, father?"

"We are here," he said.

"Where?" she asked, looking around. "There's nothing here but a spaceship."

"That's right," he said.

She walked over to the spaceship and moved her fingers over the cool metal. Her father watched her and sighed. His daughter was so beautiful. He couldn't stand to see her suffer. He had to get her off of the planet as soon as possible. Something bad was going to happen. He just knew it.

"What is the meaning of this?" she asked, turning towards him.

He moved to stand in front of her. "Amara, you are my pride and joy, but I fear for your safety. A few spaceships from the army will return soon. If you launch yourself into space at that time, you have a good chance of being overlooked by Frieza."

"No!" Amara said. "I won't run away. I want to stay here. I can defend myself! I know the basic skills of combat."

"I know you do," he said. "But still…"

"Father!"

He frowned, anger blossoming on his face. "Listen Amara! I am your father and I say that you are leaving!"

"No…"

Amara's sentence was stopped short when her father struck her across the face, rendering her unconscious. He caught his beloved daughter in his arms. He opened the spaceship's door and placed her inside.

He punched some keys on the control panel and exited the spaceship. He watched it launch into the air and in the distance spaceships belonging to the Saiyan army blazed through the sky.

"Be safe, my daughter," he said. "I love you."

Amara woke sometime later. She cradled her throbbing head in her hands.

"What's going on? Where am I?"

She tried to stand, but she couldn't. She looked down to see she was strapped down to a chair. She looked up and realized she was inside the spaceship. There were a few suitcases against the far wall.

She undid her lap belt and went to the window.

"Father, how could you?" she asked, her eyes welling up with tears.

About a week later, the spaceship landed on its destination. Amara had no control over the spaceship whatsoever. She couldn't turn it around and go back home and she couldn't pick what planet she was heading for.

She clambered out of the spaceship and stood on the sandy terrain of this new planet. She looked up at the night sky in the direction of her planet.

"There it is," she said with a small smile. "Don't worry I'll return to you."

Suddenly, the planet was engulfed in fire. Amara watched, completely horrified and fell to her knees.

"No!" she cried. "My family, my friends, my home! Why?"

As her planet sank into oblivion she began to tremble. "Frieza. This was his doing. That son of a bitch!" She slammed her fists into the sand.

Her hands moved through the sand and she grabbed handfuls of it. She let it slide through her fingers and began to sob. She lay down on the ground and cried until she had no tears left.

And that's how he found her the next day. She was asleep. The rising sun shone on her tear-stained cheeks. Her long hair was tousled and she was covered in a sprinkling of dust.

He knelt beside her and placed his hands on her face. She didn't wake, but her tail began to move.

He gasped. "A Saiyan."

He fingered her tail and she opened her eyes. She gasped and pulled her tail back.

"Don't worry," he said. "My name is Marek and I'm going to help you."

~30 YEARS LATER~

There was light. She could sense it behind her closed eyelids. She could hear a steady beeping. The rhythmic sound made her want to open her eyes.

She opened them slowly and looked through a yellow-tinted glass. She was in a confinement of some sort. She raised her hands to the glass and pressed against it.

She was cold. Why did her body feel so cold?

A face appeared on the other side of the glass. His faced seemed familiar somehow, but she couldn't place it.

There was a low-pitched alarm. She pulled her hands back and the glass began to disappear. It slid down into the floor, leaving her out in the open.

For the first time, she realized that she was naked. The man extended his hand out to her. She took it and he pulled her forward off of the platform she was on.

"Amara," he said, draping a blanket over her shoulders. "Are you all right? How are you feeling?"

"Marek?" she asked, squinting at him.

He blinked. "Yes, I am Marek." He looked much older than before.

"What happened to me? What was that thing I was in?"

"You mean you don't remember?" he asked.

She shook her head.

"Hmm, this may be a temporary side effect," he said. "You were placed in that tube about thirty years ago. You were frozen cryogenically, so you don't look a day over eighteen."

"Why did you freeze me?"

"My first intention was to protect you from Frieza," he said. "But after he was killed and the threat was over, I kept you frozen because the people on my planet grew wary of Saiyans from all they had heard. I knew if you were out and walking around, the people would go ballistic. So I kept you in there for your safety."

"But why have you chosen now to set me free?" she asked.

"I have a son about your age," he said. "His name is also Marek. Not too long ago, he was in my lab and he stumbled upon you. He seemed very interested in you and I told him everything. Lately, he's seemed to become obsessed with your beauty and the rumor of your strength. So I told him to forget about you and stay out of my lab. This upset him beyond words. Last week when I was going through my files, I saw someone had been tampering with my computer. Someone had looked at the files on the last remaining Saiyans who live on Earth. Marek has been gone for the past few days as well as one of my spaceships. I fear he will try to kill off the rest of the Saiyans so he can have you to himself."

"I won't let him do that!" Amara cried.

"Precisely," he said. "That's why I woke you up out of your cryogenic state. I will provide you with a better ship than the one Marek got his hands on. You can go to Earth and warn the others about him."

"I want to leave as soon as possible," Amara said.

"Don't rush yourself," he said. "We must make preparations and run tests on you to make sure your body is functioning correctly, but you'll be out of here in no time."

"Thank you," Amara said. "For everything."

He nodded. "If worse comes to worse and you must kill my son, I will understand. He is pure evil. I suppose I can blame myself for spending more time in my lab with you than with him. And his mother, she passed away when he was just a child."

"Oh Marek…"

He shook his head. "After you stop him, don't return here. Start a new life with the Saiyans, that's where you belong. Besides, I think Marek has planned to have me killed."

"Marek…"

He raised a hand to quiet her.

"It's all right," he said. "I'm just an broken down, old man now. Come now, let's get you into some clothes."
