Bulma awoke with a start. Something was wrong. Deep within her heart she sensed it. Instinctively she reached out for Vegeta but found only the pillow next to her. Damn. Sleep fled Bulma's mind as she remembered that Vegeta wasn't with her tonight. She had banished him from her bedroom.
Bulma sat up and sighed. It was wrong. She was wrong. The previous day had been so shocking and stressful that Bulma had failed to see how important it was for her to remain close to her lover. Vegeta was not going to turn away from her because of the baby. Sure it was sudden, but that wouldn't diminish his love for her. After all, the man had given up Heaven to be with her.
Pushing aside the sheets, Bulma reached out and grabbed her satin robe. Putting it on, she decided that there was no time like the present to tell Vegeta how much she loved him. She would let him know they were blessed enough to pass on that love to a child.
Bulma smiled and placed a hand on her stomach. This was the child she had created with the man she loved. Why she had failed to see it earlier was beyond her. It was almost like someone else had placed those thoughts of worry and anxiety in her head.
That is when the house shook. The tremor was so strong that it knocked Bulma to her knees. She looked up in time to see a large bolt of lightening rip through the sky. It made her skin crawl that it was so close, so ominous. The earth shattering clap of thunder rushed through the air causing Bulma to cover her ears with her hands. The frail cover of flesh did little good to keep out the menacing noise. As she came to her feet she could still hear the echo pounding in her head. This was all too sudden, too otherworldly to be natural. There could only be one reason.
Vegeta.
Bulma rose to her feet and raced to his room. From the hallway she saw a familiar glow flooding out of his open door. She stopped in stunned horror at the doorway looking at the man she loved. Vegeta stood in the middle of the room. He almost looked as if he were asleep standing up. His downcast face hid any expression from her so there was no emotion that she could draw on for an answer. The only thing that could be seen was a white light that slowly grew from within his being. No, it couldn't be. The angelic glow that used to be a part of him was back.
"Vegeta," Bulma whispered. What could have caused this transformation within him? That part of his life was supposed to be over. Vegeta was a mortal. He was destined to spend a long and happy life at her side!
The white glow behind him intensified even more and she witnessed first hand the rebirth of two glorious white wings taking shape.
"Vegeta!" Bulma frantically called out to him. She wanted to get his attention. She wanted this nightmare to end, but he didn't seem to hear her. Moving into the room with cautious steps, she felt a strong gust of wind hit her. It threatened to push her back. She leaned against it, as the glow from Vegeta's angelic form lit up her face in the darkened room. She closed her eyes and screamed. "VEGETA!"
"Bulma?" Vegeta spoke as if in a daze.
She looked to him again and the wind was gone, as well as the intense light of his transformation. What remained were two soft white wings that flowed out behind him. Bulma wasted no time in throwing herself into Vegeta's arms. "Why Vegeta?" She clung to him in confusion. She buried her face in his shoulder and it muffled her words. "Why have you transformed back to an angel?"
Vegeta slowly returned her embrace. She didn't understand. He was doing this for her. The fact that there was something so wrong, so terrible that she couldn't even tell him what it was had driven him to these drastic measures. However, once they were done and his soul was corrupt and dark he would be free. Free to watch over her for the rest of her life. There would be no restraints that could prevent it. After Bulma had lived her life to the fullest and she was laid to rest, only then would he deal with the consequences of his actions.
Radditz watched the scene with absolute calm. This was beyond perfect. Vegeta honestly believe that there was something wrong with that worthless mortal female. It had been easier than taking candy from a baby to ensnare him into Radditz' dark web. Vegeta had a lot to learn about the ways of the Fallen Ones. He had succumbed to the simplest of ploys, a mere lie.
It was a lie to entrap him that was formed from Vegeta's mortal desire to honorably protect his woman; the soon to be mother of his child, a fact that Vegeta had no knowledge of yet. Too bad the woman and the child would have to die. After all it was the only evil thing to do, and to make matters all the more tragic there was only one person that could correctly perform the task.
"Vegeta." Radditz' voice was deep and melodic as it resonated around the room.
Bulma opened her eyes and for the first time noticed the other man in the room. There was a darkness to him that caused her to shudder. She felt Vegeta stiffen at the man's command.
"I have fulfilled my end of this bargain. Now it is time for you to complete your end." Radditz lifted his hand and with a slight wave exacted his ultimate revenge. "Kill her."
Vegeta choked on the compulsion to follow Radditz' bidding. The hands that were only a moment ago tenderly embracing the one he loved locked into a steel grip on Bulma's arms. "Radditz, you bastard!"
"Fallen Angel, Servant of Hell. You have with your own mortal heart made this wish to become a demon." Radditz shouted back in a commanding tone. "Will you now try to back away from what you have wrought? I don't think so." Becoming a demon was not a pleasant thing. Demons were creatures of hate and malice. They reveled in the anguish of their own tormented souls. What would be their salvation only brought them to more pain and suffering. Radditz had seen them lash out with no regard. This was the gift he had given Vegeta. It was time the true power of his fallen nature exerted itself. "Demon, come forth!"
Vegeta felt the burning instantly. He looked with widened eyes at the face of the woman he loved and it was like his own blood turned to acid in his veins. He hissed as pain drowned him into madness and he pushed Bulma away from him.
She hit the wall hard, the impact knocking the breath out of her. Unable to support her own weight she slumped to the floor. Why had Vegeta just pushed her like that? What was wrong with him? Looking up she saw the bright aura returning, but this time it mixed with a black light. She gasped when she noticed his soft white wings begin to fill with an inky darkness, until they looked glossy and black. They were like the wings of a raven, and Bulma recoiled knowing that this was no longer her Vegeta. This was someone to be feared.
"How does it feel, Chancellor of Angels? Are you enjoying your rebirth onto the path to hell?" Radditz began to laugh at the creature he had created. Vegeta was, without a doubt, exquisite in his new form. Radditz watched as Vegeta lifted his head. Radditz stared into eyes that had become completely dark. Perfect.
Vegeta lashed out at Radditz with a vicious strike that clearly showed his intent on taking down the instigator of his torment.
Radditz leapt up and easily avoided the blow. Flipping over to the far end of the room, Radditz chuckled. "Vegeta, my friend. I am not the one that causes you this pain."
Vegeta turned as he struggled for each breath. He was in great pain. Something was causing it. Something close and he wanted more than anything for this torment to end; to bring about the destruction of that which ate at his body and mind. "It must be you!" Vegeta's voice echoed as if there were several of him talking at once. The sound of his new voice was frightening even to his own ears. "Who else would have this power over me." He rushed trying to take down the Fallen Angel but he avoided his grasp yet again.
Radditz landed next to Bulma's shocked form. He reached down and seized her arm. She was jerked from the floor and held out before Radditz. "This is the cause of your pain, Vegeta. The woman you love. The feelings you harbor for her are what is causing the blood to boil in your veins. The stronger your love, the more it will hurt."
Bulma struggled to pull her arm free but failed.
Radditz watched Vegeta drop to the floor. He could tell Vegeta was listening, but at the same time the demon was ready to pounce. Good. The sooner the woman was dead the sooner they could get down to business. "Kill her," Radditz enticed his creation. "Kill her and end your torment."
Bulma was flung toward Vegeta. He rose up and caught her in his arms. She struggled to back away but the strength of his arms held her close. They stood like that for a moment. It was then that she felt his hands move up and clasp around her neck.
Smoke rose from where he touched her. The contact was burning into her flesh. As his fingers tightened, the air was being ripped from her lungs. Reaching up, she fought to pull his hands away. The much needed air was being completely cut off.
"Vegeta! NO!" She choked out in frantic sobs. "You can't!" She felt her head growing foggy. "Please...Vegeta."
"I can't," The terrifying voice answered. "I can't help it." Closing his eyes, he squeezed tighter.
