three: A challenge
On her way to her Soba's residence, Kokoro felt the need to pay a repsectful visit to her father's grave. He had been in her thoughts frequently this past week; more than likely since it was coming up on the day he was killed. The memories of him when she was young, and those of that very day flooded her mind. There was no escaping them and the constant feeling of regret and a lost hope. She found a small comfort in visiting the grave. She knew he was safe and much happier now, and it also made her feel like she had something to strive for.
She shifted her focus on the ground below her as she flew overhead of the many houses and small neighboorhoods that decorated the land, until she spotted the graveyard. Making her descent, she touched solid ground once again. As small as the graveyard was it was still rather nice. The grass was a healthy green, and all sorts of flowers lined the rows of graves and memorials, and across the hill most of the land sat on; and last the whole place was enclosed by a black iron gate.
She put her hand on the gate door and it creaked open, giving note of just how old it really was. Stepping inside and taking a good look around, Kokoro proceeded to search for her father's grave, finding it beside the part of the land that slanted up on the hill.
She strode right up to it and stopped for a moment, whispering more to herself than anyone else. "Otousan, Papa....." she closed her eyes and drew in slow yet deep breaths keeping back the possible tears.
Opening her eyes again, something immediately caught her attention. Atop the headstone lay a fresh, black rose. Dew clung to the petals and leaves making the sun relfect off the droplets like tiny mirrors. She timidly reached out to pick up the strange colored flower. Her heart skipped a beat as she surveyed the area around her. There was no one around except herself, but yet she knew precisely who left it there. Without a further thought she carefully stashed the rose in her school bag and proceeded home.
Once she arrived on the Capsule Corp. grounds she scurried inside and rushed up to the room which was set aside specially for her visits, shut and locked the door behind her. She slipped out of her uniform, into something comfortable and stuffed her bag beneath the bed to where it could not be seen.
Not a moment too soon, there was a loud knock at the door, and her uncle's voice called out to her. "Hey Koro, is everything okay? You ran up here so fast and locked the door I thought something was wrong..."
She sighed quietly, but replied trying to sound as believable as possible. He meant well, but right now she needed time to straighten out her thoughts. "Yes, I'm alright. I just wanted to get my homework done now, a friend asked me to hang out after school. Thanks for being concerned." She cringed, she hated lying to him, but she couldn't exactly say what happened out there.
There was a long pause as Trunks contemplated on whether to believe her or not.
She realized he was still there and tried again to assure him she was fine. "Really, i'm fine..." She was pleading silently for him to just leave already.
He felt like he should ask again, although why would she lie to him? "You're sure? Would you like something, are you hungry?"
She heaved a sigh, he was persistent. /Why won't he leave?/ "I'm sure. I'll come down if I get hungry."
Trunks finally gave up, accepting her answer realizing she wasnt going to tell him if something was really wrong. "Alright, i'll be downstairs if you need me. Your mom should be home pretty soon, i'll send her up when she gets in." He turned and left downstairs
She curled up on the corner of her bed and tried to block out the painful memories of that night she had first come across a rose of that color. Her knees were hugged closely to her chest, her arms wrapped around them and her chin resting on one knee.
A good twenty minutes or so passed before she relaxed. The rose, the one she had found in the cemetary, crossed her thoughts again. the one who had left it there had a reason, and not just as a reminder of how her father had been decieved and killed, but it also proposed a challenge to her. With it, he stated he wanted to test her power against his.
She had found him again that night, and nearly destroyed him with he rnewofund strength, but she never killed him. Even after what he had done to her, her father, she couldn't go through with it. What little part of her that was in control had prevented herself from killing him like he had done Saris. As a result he took this as her one mistake and fled, only to come back six years later and face her again. He must have figured that over these six years one of two things happened; one: she took advantage of her newfound power and worked with it giving it time to grow, or two: she was freaked out about it and denied it not learning how to use it or let it grow with her so she'd be defenseless against him.
Well he would get a rude awakening when she found him, and this time she wouldn't be so merciful towards him. No one else knew about this, or would they ever. She didn't want to worry her mother, or anyone else for that matter.
The troubled teen sprang up from her spot on the bed, havign come to a decision to accept his challenge. Throwing on a light jacket, and gathering her bag she slung it over her shoulder, unlocked her door nearly tearing it off the hinges as she swung it open and tore down the stairs without the notion of telling anyone where she was going.
As she raced though the vast house, she made it halfway to the front door when she ran straight into the one person she had hope not to.
A deep gruff voice stoped her dead in her tracks. "And just where are you off to in such a hurry?"
Kokoro stepped back a few steps only to meet Vegeta's piecing onyx gaze. /This won't go over well/ she thought as she tried to sound as calm as possible. "Oh! H-hello Sobu. I'm just going out...to meet a friend."
He slipped into his usual stance, his arms folded tightly across his chest and a smirk on his face. He held his dark gaze on her for a good few minutes as though he were reading her very thoughts. "Don't lie to me brat. Your just like your mother...i could see right through her."
She looked away and down at her feet. "...I __" He cut her off, but amazingly he sounded somewhat concerned. "Be careful out there. I'm not going to be held repsonsible if anything happens because I let you go."
She looked back up at him with amazement, not by the fact he knew what she was really up to but the fact he was letting her do it. She flashed him a smile before she turned and left for the door again. Looking back only once at the sound of a car pulling up in the drive, she saw her her mother step out of the red vehicle. Kokoro focused back ahead of her and kept going, trying to be discrete as she took off in a burst of energy.
these next 2 chappies are pretty suspensful, this one was just to drag the story line along...
