Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Blue Haired Argetlam ❯ The Finding ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Author's Note: This is one fanfiction I have worked very hard on. If you have read Eragon, this fanfiction will make sense. If not-well don't read this fanfiction until you read Eragon. I had posted this fanfiction on ff.net, but have decided to move it here. Also, at the beginning of this story, Bra is 10 years old.

"Okay, Bra. We'll be gone for about two hours. Mind your brother, please," Bulma said as she and Vegeta walked out the door.

Bra nodded. Mind her brother? She giggled. Trunks spent most of his time watching football games on television when he was supposed to be babysitting her. She was heading up the steps to her room when she noticed that the door to her parents' room was open.

Quietly, Bra walked into the room. Her mother and father's room was very interesting, to say the least. It was always easy to tell which side of the room belonged to whom. Vegeta's side of the room had a few badly drawn images of himself beating up Goku taped on the walls, as well as some Martial Arts posters and cutout advertisements for tournaments.

Bulma's side of the room had several gadgets and numerous awards on shelves on the wall. It also had a cutout, taped-up advertisement for a cooking class. Bra laughed when she saw the advertisement-no amount of lessons was going to cure her mother's inability to cook.

Bra was about to go back to her room when she nearly tripped on something. She looked down, and there was a box. That's funny , she thought, that wasn't there yesterday. Mom or Dad must have left it out and forgot to put it back up.

Out of curiosity, she opened the box, being very careful not to make a mess out of the bubble-wrap that had been placed inside the box. When Bra had finished taking off all the bubble-wrap that was in the box, her jaw dropped.

Sitting under the bubble-wrap was a bright red stone.

It was beautiful. Bra ran her hand along the length of the stone, which she thought was a ruby, or maybe a garnet. As she picked it up, she wondered to whom it belonged to: her mother or her father.

If it was her mother's then the stone was probably a rare and valuable gem that was one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable. If the stone was her father's, then it was most likely some ancient saiyan artifact passed down from his father or something of that nature.

Bra carried the stone into the living room, looking at it nearly the whole time. Something was strange about the stone. She shook the stone, and as if in response she heard a squeaking noise. Her eyes immediately went to the ground-squeaking meant mice, right?

Apparently she was wrong. As Bra's eyes returned to the stone, she noticed a crack running down the center of it. Her eyes widened with panic, and she sat down on a sofa, wondering what she should do.

More and more, the stone cracked, and the more cracked it became, the more panicky Bra got. Trunks, who was sitting nearby, just happened to look over at Bra. When he saw the quickly cracking stone, his eyes went wide.

"BRA WHAT DID YOU DO?! IS THAT MOM AND DAD'S? THEY'RE GOING TO KILL ME!!"

The stone started shaking slightly in Bra's lap, and she watched it carefully. Finally something broke out of the flaked off pieces of stone.

A lizard?

Oh my Trunks said, "It's a...a..."

"A dragon! Just like Shenron only this kind of dragon has four legs instead of two!" Bra was now very excited.

The dragon was the same color as the stone-but not a stone, an egg, Bra now knew. It was so small, Bra wondered if perhaps it needed food. She stroked its head and suddenly was aware of a dim feeling-hunger. Bra looked at the dragon, wondering if perhaps it had-no, she thought, it couldn't have communicated with her like that.

Bra carried the dragon into the kitchen, and it seemed to smell the half-eaten plate of chicken on the table. It struggled, obviously trying to get to that food. She placed it on the table, and it immediately attacked the chicken, ripping and tearing as if it had been starved.

When Bra heard, "What's going on?" she straightened up and turned around. Vegeta and Bulma had come back early.

"Umm, I can..ex..explain.." Bra stuttered.

"No need to explain," Vegeta said, and what he did next surprised both Bra and Trunks.

He smiled.

"Dad? Why are you smiling?" Bra was thoroughly confused.

"Simple," Bulma replied, "It's because-no, this is not my story to tell. Vegeta? Explain to your daughter, please, while I put away the groceries. Come on, Trunks, you get to help me."

"But," Trunks started to protest but a quick glare from his father silenced him, and he followed his mother outside to start carrying the groceries in.

"Dad, I'm confused," Bra said.

"Of course you are, Vegeta replied, "Anyone would be. It would seem I have a lot to explain to you. First of all, which hand did you first touch the dragon with?"

Bra held out her right hand.

Vegeta held her hand in his, and pointed to her palm. "There..the gedwey ignasia. It is the mark of a Dragon Rider."

Bra looked at the silvery-white mark that now resided on her palm. She asked, "What's a Dragon Rider?"

Vegeta got that look in his eyes. It was a look that told anyone who could see his face that he was thinking about the past, that he was thinking of an old memory.

"A Dragon Rider, Bra, is someone who raises a dragon and uses it for good. Some people didn't use their dragons for good things.."

"Are you going to tell me a story?" Bra asked.

That seemed to amuse Vegeta, "Yes. Yes, I am going to tell you a story..have you ever heard of Alagaësia?"
