Chapter 2

Radditz POV

“Only I can't see what's so special about Namek?” I finished as I retold Vegeta what I had heard in the corridor.

Vegeta sat back in his chair and rubbed his chin in thought. He raised an eyebrow before turning to the console on his desk. He punched in Namek on the space map and it pulled the planet up and enlarged it on the screen. Vegeta silently read the planet summary that scrolled across the screen. His eyebrows jumped. “Damn it!” He swore.

“What?” I asked.

“It says here that planet Namek is home to a legendary dragon that can grant wishes.” Vegeta almost shouted.

I raised an eyebrow at him. “You're kidding right? Wish granting dragons are you crazy?” I asked. Vegeta glared at me and almost growled.

“I most certainly am not, but this must be what Frieza is after, and if it's true then he could make himself invincible.”

“Like he isn't already?” I mused rolling my eyes, but in a flash Vegeta had me slammed against the wall growling in my face holding my uniform collar tightly in his fist.

“I will defeat him one day! And you had better not mock me inadvertently again or I might just forget that you are the last saiyan other than me!” He spat in my face. I shoved him away. “Touchy.”

Vegeta ran an irritated hand through his hair. “Imagine if you and I got to the dragon first? We could wish for planet Vegeta- sei's return, immortality, infinite power! Imagine it!” He shouted agitatedly.

For a moment I thought about what I would wish for, and sure enough I would wish for planet Vegeta-sei back. We were the only two saiyans left in the universe as far as we knew and our home planet had been untimely destroyed by Frieza. I chuckled to myself. Ironic how we now worked for the monster who destroyed our planet and he thought we didn't know. Fool.

The hate for Frieza was so great in me that I would kill him if I could, maybe I would wish for him to die slowly and painfully while watching me kiss his daughter.

I shook my head as Patrice entered my mind. She loved the monster and if I killed him she would never forgive me, but even her favor would not stop us from destroying him one day when we were strong enough and that day might come sooner then expected if the dragon was real. I had to accept that Patrice and I were never going to be together. It was a match made in hell that Vegeta would never recognize.

As Vegeta's strategic mind plotted out how we were going to get to the dragon first he returned to the console to find out more about the legend as we speeded towards Namek and our destiny.

Namek

Piccolo POV

I stopped hoeing to look off in the direction of the nearest village as I wiped my brow. In the village they would be planting Ajissa to beautify the planet, but here I was planting bananas berries, pan trees, lettuce, and other food bearing plants for my ungrateful student. I sighed and shook my head at the thought of my stubborn saiyan student. He was out hunting. Namekians only needed water to live, but as a saiyan without food he was weakened.

He was incorrigible after 23 years under my tutelage and care he still argued with everything and threatened to kill me. I had to laugh at that. Since his pod had been destroyed he had no way to get off the planet and he blamed me.

`He just can't be glad I saved his life.' Piccolo shook his head and went back to work. A while later Kakarott screeched to a stop next to me.

“Was your hunt successful this time?” I asked, taunting him was one of my favorite past times.

Kakarott glared at me and held up his kill, which was quite a bit larger than him. “Does that answer your question geezer?” Kakarott spat back. I smirked as his anger, he was so easy to pick on, and his pride was so great. He had a great knowledge of his people thanks to his programming when he was a baby, but he could not fulfill his `mission' because Namek's moons could not be full, they were all crescents or halves.

He wanted more than anything to go back to Vegeta-sei, but with no method of space travel he was other wise stranded here, but his training did not lax. As a matter of fact he was now the strongest warrior I have ever known, not that I would ever tell him, Kami forbid his ego get any bigger. He believed it was his innate saiyan ability and never acknowledged that my training had anything to do with it.

“Well go start the fire.” I commanded.

Kakarott sneered at me and went over to the stack of wood. “You know Piccolo you can't just order me around like that I am 23 now you know. I could get along fine without you.”

I chuckled darkly. “Give me a break kid you still need me to help you stay fed and you know it.”

“I know how to grow all this stuff.” Kakarott motioned to the rows of plants.

“Yeah right, they would all be sickly and hardly edible. You're a grunt and you know it.”

“I don't know why I just don't kill you.” Kakarott growled as he lit the fire.

“Because then you would be left all alone with only the goody goodies to talk to.”

Kakarott growled again, but didn't argue. We went about our business in silence until we sensed Dende coming our way.

“Not him again!” Kakarott groaned. Dende was a boy from the nearest village who came to visit us from time to time. I had to give the kid credit he was the only Namekian who wasn't afraid of us.

Dende landed a few feet away from me and bowed politely to me as I was his elder. “How are you today, mister Piccolo?”

I sighed and stared at him. “Do your elders know you're out here?” I asked sternly.

Dende looked down at the ground. “No.” He replied sheepishly.

“Well they wouldn't approve. I am far too dangerous!” Kakarott growled stalking up to Dende looking as intimidating as he could.

Dende was not fazed by Kakarott's pomp. He just stared at him and blinked a few times.

I laughed. “It's not funny Piccolo! I am a saiyan I strike fear into the hearts of people all over the universe, but you and this kid didn't seem to get the memo!” He shouted at me.

I continued to laugh until my senses were assaulted by several large kis headed towards Namek. I shot my head up to look at sky I couldn't see anything, but I knew that whatever it was was headed straight for Namek.

“You feel it too, don't you Piccolo.” Kakarott asked.

I nodded solemnly. “What could have such a dark aura?” Dende asked as he focused hard trying to sense it too.

“Saiyans?” Kakarott asked not hiding the hope in his voice.

“Maybe, but that dark energy can only be the tyrant himself.” I felt my insides go cold at the thought of Frieza coming here. I knew he could easily destroy all the Namekians and use the dragon balls to wish for horrible things. I wasn't known for being a good guy, but this situation was one where no one would get out of it. I looked at Kakarott knowing he was the only hope Namek and the universe had. He was a legendary; I only hoped that was enough.

I turned to Dende and said, “Go back to your village and tell the elders it's a code blue. They will know what to do.”

Dende nodded and flew off towards the village. Kakarott stared at the sky his eyes a mix of fear and excitement.

“You will fight him won't you?” I asked knowing this would be the biggest fight Kakarott had ever faced.

“You bet your ass I will. If I destroy him I could take his ship and go back to Vegeta-sei as the strongest anything in the universe.” Kakarott said excitedly an evil smirk crossing his face.

I shook my head and thought to myself, `I hope you can Kakarott. I hope you can.'
