CHAPTER 30: SUNNY DAYS AND STORMY NIGHTS

Marley packed the foodstuffs for their picnic, including the peanut butter, and wondered how it would feel to have a normal life. She laughed off the thought as Gohan and Kakkarotto stepped into the room. Normal? I wonder what that is?

"How are my two favorite boys?" She asked as she stole Kakkarotto from Gohan. Kakkarotto laughed and gurgled while Gohan pecked her cheek.

"We are hungry, that is what we are."

"Well lets get going, it is sunny and I want to take Kato flying."

Gohan laughed at his wife's unusual nickname for their son and they walked out of the house into the bright sunshine. It reminded Gohan of what his father had told him about heaven. It was perfect. Marley took off flying with Kakkarotto, spinning and doing barrel rolls in the air. Kakkarotto laughed and smiled the whole way. They finally landed in the clearing of some woods and set up their picnic.

After they finished eating they found a stream and let Kakkarotto play around in it with them.

"Go-chan?" Marley said as they napped in the afternoon sun.

"Hmmm?"

"I love you."

"What a funny coincident, I love you too."

She snuggled closer to Gohan, who had Kakkarotto lying on his chest, and fell asleep. Her tail wrapped around her son and her mate. She was as happy as she had ever been in her whole life. Gohan, however, was a bit more troubled. He could understand that Marley wanted her moment of happiness, but he felt they should be preparing. Though he didn't know how he was going to prepare. Eventually he fell into an uneasy slumber filled with odd and terrifying dreams.

He plunged down a deep dark pit. He was trying to fly out, but he found himself unable to manipulate his ki. He fell farther and farther down the pit that seemed to have no end. Then suddenly he heard a voice, Marley's voice.

"Fight him, fight the Dark Man. He will try to control your mind, repel him, constantly fight against his power."

"Marley! Marley is that you? Where are you? I can't see anything."

"I am not Marley, but I am a part of her."

"Who are you?"

"I am what remains of the Box, I am now her subconscious. Fight, resist, live. You must live on, your purpose in life is not yet fulfilled."

"Wait! Do you know how to defeat the Dark Man?"

"Fight, resist, live. Fight, resist, live. Fight, resist, live…" the voice drowned out into echoes. Then he stopped falling and woke up.

Marley shook her mate as water poured down on them both. "Gohan! Wake up. It is raining."

Gohan jumped up and looked around him, It was a dream. Marley was holding Kakkarotto close to her and looking at him with a confused expression on her face. "What is wrong?"

"Ah, just a weird dream. Um, lets get going, no use soaking ourselves."

"Yeah."

They flew off to their small house in the outskirts of the forest. Marley occasionally stole glances at her mate. He seemed troubled. She tried to sort out his feelings but found they were quite hidden from her. He's never tried to block his feeling from me before, he must be very worried indeed.

Marley walked into the house and toweled off her body and Kakkarotto's. She fed him again and sent him off to bed. She went down stairs again looking for Gohan, but didn't find him in his study or the kitchen. Must be in bed already. She walked up stairs again and checked the bathroom and their room. No sign of him.

"Go-chan? Go-chan, where are you?"

No answer.

She walked down stairs again, just to double check. When she came into the living room she found a note on the door.

Marley-

I regret having to do this. I am going to go out to the desert and wait for the Dark Man. I am going to try and fight him. I'm not sure if that is what my dream meant, but it doesn't matter. I have to do something. I love you and Kato more than words can describe. I will be with you forever. Hey, maybe someone can even wish me back with the dragon balls if any one survives. I called my dad, he expects you at his house tonight, even with the rain. I love you.

A single tear rolled down Marley's cheek. She had lost her love. You have to be strong, for Kato. Gohan would have wanted it that way, she said to herself.

Marley ran upstairs and grabbed Kakkarotto. He, thankfully, didn't cry or squirm. He seemed to sense her anxiety and stayed quiet. Marley flew out the house with some of her Earth rain protection and over to Goku's house.

"Kakkarot!" She yelled outside the door.

Goku opened the door with a wan smile and welcomed her in. Marley saw Chichi eying Kakkarotto and said, "Do you want to hold Kato Mother Chichi?"

Chichi squealed and said, "Sure! Kato looks like he could use some warming up! I'll take care of him for a while."

Relieved Marley handed Kakkarotto off to Chichi and turned back to Goku. "Kakkarot," she said seriously, "we have to stop your baka son from what he is about to do. Get Vegeta, use your mind talk to get him over here."

"Already done Marley, I talked to him as I felt you coming."

Marley turned her back to Goku. She was angry and scared. Gohan was the first person she ever loved, if she lost him, how would she ever be complete. How would she survive with out her mate?

Vegeta opened the door and looked around at the gloomy cast. He was wearing his battle armor and Goku was wearing his gi, but Marley only seemed to be wearing a soaking pair of black pants and a tank top. Marley raised her head and said, "We will follow Gohan and go from there."

Vegeta sneered, "That is your plan? Might as well kill Gohan when we get there if we are going to enter battle with that pathetic piece of shit plan."

"Got any better ideas?" she said coldly.

"Actually yes."

Marley raised an eyebrow and remained silent.

"Just remove the soul of the Dark Bastard or whatever the hell his name is."

"So it can go into your body?"

"Fine, how do we destroy it?"

"Hell if I know, I'm making it up as I go! But I know we aren't doing Gohan any good sitting here so we might as well go."

Marley stormed out the door and stood in the rain. Goku and Vegeta came out a few minutes later and stood behind her. Marley took off and they followed.
