Chapter Six
The pair cut through the cool, night sky. The stars seemed as mere streaks of white light,
appearing to challenge the two Saiya-jins to a race. Goten smiled as he looked at Bra.
This is the first time since he's been back that she seemed happy. Well, she hadn't much
to be happy about. His smile melted away as he thought of Sean, and how he treated her.
Never in his life would he treat such a beautiful, smart, woman that way.
"We're almost there," she said, beginning to descend. She skillfully maneuvered around
the tree branches, but her rag doll behind her wasn't so lucky. Leaves and twigs snapped
and swatted at Goten. He just covered his face and let her press on. Before long, they
reached a clearing and Bra touched down, letting go of Goten's arms.
"Well, this is it," she said, spinning around to him. Bra's eyes widened at the site of him,
and she began to chuckle softly.
"New hair accessory," she questioned, pointed to his hair. Goten looked up to see a quite
large tree branch stuck in his thick, raven hair. He blushed furiously and removed it,
tossing it to the ground. All he could do was shrug his shoulders and laugh nervously. He
wanted to get her to laugh, but that wasn't what he had in mind.
"So, this is it," Goten said in an attempt to change the subject. Bra smirked and began to
walk away from him, motioning so he could follow. Only a few paces away lay a
beautiful inlet lake. The area around it was full of shrubs and grasses. The water itself
was so dark, it seem to be a second sky, reflecting the starlight off of the soft ripples that
formed at the surface when the wind blew. Goten smiled and walked down to the edge of
the water.
"Do you like it," Bra whispered, placing her hand on his shoulder. "I used to come here a
lot when Pan and I were good friends." She took in a deep breath and sat down at the
bank and leaned back. She couldn't help but to think how simple things were back then.
It really seemed like a lifetime ago.
Goten sat down next to her and rolled up his pant legs. He dipped his toes in the water to
test the temperature. After he determined it was just right, he waded his feet in the warm,
clear water. Bra looked at him swirling his feet and followed suit. It almost seemed like
old times.
"Well, what made you stop coming," he said as he placed his arms behind his head and
laid back. Bra raised her brow, thinking of an answer. It really was a good question. She
would come here to clear her mind and calm down. It was a secret place, which only Pan
and herself knew about. Maybe it was because their friendship fell apart when she went
to high school and started hanging with Marron. Maybe it was because she was such a
damn prude, she thought, making her giggle a bit.
"I guess things just changed," she said, summing up her thoughts into that neat, little
sentence. Taking in a deep breath, she rested on her side, propping her head up with her
hand and looked at Goten. His onyx orbs were peering at the sky, until he caught a
glimpse of her face. He turned his head to look at Bra. Her hair fell is blue-green waves,
framing her beautiful face, cascading over her shoulders and to the mid of her back. He
soft, rose colored lips pursed, and the smiled. And then, there were her eyes, once hidden
by her bangs, caught the brilliance of the starlight and reflected it deep into his soul. She
was absolutely stunning.
"Well," he started, trying to fall out of his trance, "People change. I mean, the last time I
saw you, you were a little girl. And now…"
His words began to trail off. She was a beautiful woman. He could think it, but he
couldn't speak it. Why? What made his want to say it in the first place? Bra continued to
gaze at him, intrigued as to what he was about to say.
"What," she prompted him, a slight smile on her face.
"Nothing," he commented flatly, changing the mood. His thoughts were silly anyway. Of
course she was beautiful, her parents were the most handsome couple he had ever seen.
She was also his best friend's sister, meaning he had to protect her and be there for her. A
warm hand on his side brought him from his thoughts. Bra had nuzzled in closer to him,
laying her head on his chest. An odd sensation washed over him, and he placed his arm
around her.
"You know…I'd do anything for you," Goten whispered in her ear. Bra only stretched
out her legs and yawned. She was dreadfully tired and she felt so relaxed in his arms.
"I mean it," he continued, "I'll be there for you…"
He began to yawn himself. The harmonic chirping of the crickets served as a lullaby,
making strong lids feel heavy. Finally, his eyes closed and his thoughts drifted up to the
sky and the pair fell asleep.

Hot, muggy air entered Goten's lungs, waking the young man. He opened his eyes and
was greeted with the blazing morning sun. He shielded his eyes with his hands and sat up,
disturbing the sleeping woman on his chest. Bra yawned and arched her back, stretching
like a kitten. She rubbed her eyes and groggily looked at Goten.
"We should get back," Goten said as he stood up, dusting the grass off of his clothes. Bra
extended her legs and looked out to the lake. It had become springing with life as birds
bathed and other woodland creatures came for a drink. Bra sighed and looked at Goten,
pouting.
"Do we have to," she whined as she rose to her feet. Goten nodded and placed his hands
on her shoulders. He asked himself the same question. For some reason he didn't want to
leave either.
"Well, no one knows we left last night," he said. Bra sighed and rolled her eyes. She
didn't really want to go back to reality. She liked it just fine with her and Goten…all
alone. No Marron, no Trunks, no Vegeta…just the two of them. She more she thought
about it, the more she liked the idea. Then she frowned, realizing that it wasn't just the
two of them. She was pregnant. But…she wasn't keeping it, right? Like he would want to
care for another man's child. Why was she even thinking about him like that?
Goten looked at her with concerned eyes. She was far away, deep in thought.
"Hey, something on your mind," he asked her. Bra looked up at him and frowned. Damn
him and his questions.
"Nothing, just thinking about my appointment in a couple of days," she said, walking
away from him. He just had to get her thinking about things again.
"Oh, to ummm, ya know," Goten said, unsure of the words to use. He wasn't exactly
educated in these types of matters. Bra shrugged her shoulder, not wanting to answer
him.
"Yeah, I gotta go in for my ultrasound and abortion," she said flatly. Goten scratched his
head and walked over to her. It really wasn't any of his business what she decided to do,
but she just seemed so down about it. He rested his head on her shoulder and wrapped his
arms around her waist. She smiled, though he couldn't see.
"Is that what you want to do," he started, "I mean, I'm in no place to tell you want to do
with your body, but, it's a big decision. It seems like you only want to do it because
what's-his-name is being an ass."
She couldn't help but to chuckle, there was some truth to his statement. She didn't spend
more than five seconds thinking about it…and spent days damning the day she met him.
But, she thought about what type of mother she would be, and she didn't think she'd do a
very good job. And raising it all on her own? And her father? It just wouldn't work out.
"No, I don't think bringing a child into this situation is best," she said, placing her soft
hand over his. Goten figured he shouldn't press it too much. She knew in her heart what
was best for her. But…he couldn't just leave her thinking no one cared. Someone did
care…he cared. Gently, he rubbed her stomach and she gasped. He pressed her against
him and softly kissed behind her ear.
"I'll be there for you…if you keep it or not. But of you do, I'll be there to rub your belly
down with cocoa butter, I'll massage you when you are tense, I'll hold your hand in the
delivery room. I'll be the one that cuts the cord and adores you when your baby looks at
you with loving eyes. If Sean wants to miss out on that, that is his fault…but I will be
there if you allow me," he said with so much conviction and truth.
Bra felt the tears well up in her eyes. Why was she promising her such things? He wanted
to believe him, but she couldn't. She had already been lied to by one man…she couldn't
take it if she put her trust in another and was let down for a second time. She shook her
head and wriggled out of his grasp. She was about to fly off, but he grabbed her by her
wrist and yanked her down. There would be no more running away.
"I can't," she said trying to hold back more tears. Goten then pulled Bra to him as she
began to sob. The agonizing sound tore through his heart until he was almost on the verge
himself. That boy had no idea how much he hurt her…and just how much she cared
about him. What a baka!
"Yes you can," he said, tilting her face to his.
"How," she said through her tears, her heart pounding.
"Because…I…I…care for you," he said, bringing his lips to her tear stained cheeks,
kissing the salty liquid. Bra closed her eyes and savored the sensation. This couldn't be
happening to her. It was all so unexpected. Bra quivered as she pushed him away and
looked at Goten with bloodshot eyes, emotions beginning to take over. He was about to
take her in his arms again, but he figured not.
"Let's just go home," he said, taking to the air. Bra sighed and sped in front of him.
Goten was unsure of what happened down there…or if it was for the better.
