Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Dragon Ball Beyond ❯ Episode 1: Three Years Later ( Chapter 1 )
Bulma stared at the maturing face that stared back in the mirror. She hadn't quite noticed it, until her mother told her she was already becoming a beautiful woman like her. She wouldn't believe it at first, until she noticed the developing small mounds on her chest. She knew these changes would get in the way of her training.
She set her katana down on the ground, and then picked up again, flinging it from side to side, slicing the invisible air in half. She could hear the ripping noises in her ears. She remembered the first time she handled a Katana, she nearly fell with it, since it was so heavy, and she was only three years old. Her father had taught her the basics, but was never able to teach her everything as a Yakuza member came into their house, and killed him right in front of them.
She drew in a chilly breath as the memories suck in. So long since her father was killed, it was almost as it had just happened yesterday. They were sitting comfortably around the table, she and her mother were talking about the latest news in fashion, and her father began to discuss about a yakuza group terrorizing, and killing people purposely. It was at that precise moment, when a man tore his way through their shrine, and pierced a rather long and thick katana through her fathers chest. His head was sliced of moments later.
She and her mother sat there in complete silence, and disarray, and he just walked out of the house, as if nothing had ever happened. But something did happen. He killed her father.
There was a memorial service not to long after that. That is when she met a boy named Goku. He was her age, but very primal, and naive. He was strange looking too. He had a tail, which was not normal for any humans. Perhaps he was related to a monkey, or perhaps he was a demon. Whatever he was, he was a kind and funny person to be around with.
He took her to his house, and showed her his grandpa. It was a ball with stars on it. He said that his grandpa had given it to him, and that it was very special to him. Not too long after that, it was stolen, and they went after it to retrieve it. That is when they found out that there were more balls just like that one, but with different numbers of stars on them. there were seven in total. They also found out, when all seven were put together, you were granted one wish.
So they went on a dragon ball hunt, and the rest ensued. She met a fist full of people, and now, three years had passed since she had last seen them. She wondered if they even remembered her anymore.
She placed her katana around her strap, and on her back, and walked on out into the living room, where her mother was drinking a tea, and in her hand was the daily muse. She sat across from her, and served herself some tea, and drank it eagerly. Tea was the best part of her day.
"How was your day, sweetie?" chirped her mother.
"It was alright, I guess."
"Hmm." she nodded. "Have you changed your--"
"Yes mother!!" she shouted, her face turning red now. She hated it when her mother brought up the most private conversations during tea. What was it with that women, and her going through puberty??
"It's never too long to discuss--"
"I know, but now while I'm drinking tea!!!" she shouted, her face becoming ten shades of red.
"It's never too late. Oh, and your little friend came by to visit, since you're growing up to be a woman, I didn't want him to get any ideas." she giggled.
She spat out a mouthful of tea, and it landed all over the table, and floor. "What??!! Son-kun was here, and you didn't let him in??? What do you mean ideas???"
"Oh, you know... men are always after something, and it is so easy to manipulate--"
"STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT FOR KAMI'S SAKE!!!" she shouted, rising from the floor. "And besides, Goku isn't like that!!!"
Her mother drank her tea with much gusto, and tranquility, and a grin appeared on her lips as she spoke. "It's been three years right?? He's already a grown man. His body is changing--"
Bulma made a disgusting face as she talked about Goku. Somewhere in her mind, she didn't want to know about Goku, and his body changing. That was just too awkward, especially after seeing him naked too often.
"I told him to come by later on. He should be on his way here--"
"Hello??" came a slightly deep voice. Bulma raised her eyebrows, and walked towards the door, not missing the grim on her mothers lips. She didn't understand why, but eventually did when she opened the door for the sudden intruder.
It was Goku. But he was... different. He was taller now, and his face had lost all his boyish looks, and he had more muscles than a professional wrestler. But she could still see the old Goku in him. The smile... yes... his smile was still the same after three long years of not seeing him. She stared back, admiring him, as he stared back also... admiring her as well??
"Wow Bulma... you've changed." he said, smiling that same Son grin. She smiled back, and placed her hand on the handle of her katana. "You've changed too, Son-kun."
"How's Dante?" he asked, referring to her katana.
"He's fine." she smiled. "He's still in perfect shape."
"That's awesome. I still got my power pole." he said, extending the red pole in front of him. They laughed, and they walked outside, observing the towns people doing some of their chores. It smelled like burnt wood, and roast outside.
"I'm hungry," he murmured, his stomach growling like a ferocious lion.
"I forgot your stomach was a bottom-less pit." she laughed.
"Anything new I don't know about??" he asked, crossing his arms behind his neck, and turned around, walking backwards, so that he was now facing her.
"Not much. What about you??"
"I stayed at Master Roshii's for a while. Me and Krillin trained, and now we're stronger!" he grinned.
She eyed his blue and orange gi's, and gave him a wink. "Typical. I kinda noticed it with your training outfit."
"Pretty cool, huh?? Krillin has a set of them too."
"How is Krillin??"
Goku laughed. "Still as balled as ever."
"And Yamcha??"
"He cut his hair. He said it would get in the way of a fight."
She smiled. She could already imagine him with shorter hair. "And Launch??"
"Still as dangerous when she sneezes."
She laughed again. "And Chi-chi??"
"She said she had a surprise for me on the next tournament. Don't know what it is." he said, crossing his arms. She blinked. She had never saw him do this gesture before.
He walked alongside her now, and they stopped right in front of the lake, staring at their reflections curiously. As he stared into the lake, he noticed her staring at him, so he lifted his face to meet her. There were tears in her eyes.
"Bulma?"
"I missed you too much, Son-kun. Why didn't you come, and visit me??"
He gave her a gentile smile, before he bent down, and ran his fingers through the water. "Well, I was really busy training, you know?? It's not that I didn't want to see you. I wanted to become stronger so that we saw each other again, I could defend you from lechers, and perverts." He laughed as a fish wriggled in his palm, pulling out, and placing it in his pocket. Bulma laughed at this sight, and ran her fingers through the water, pulling a fish out for herself.
"This brings back memories." she croaked, handing him the fish, and placed it in his pocket.
He laughed. "You were mad because I ate all the fish you caught, and I got you a birds egg, and you were attacked by the mother."
"I still got the bumps on my head."
They laughed again, and when they were finished catching fish, Bulma built a fire, and placed the fishes on sticks, which were now frying in the fire. Goku bit into his hungrily, and eyed the ones that were still being cooked.
"Mmmmn, fried fish!!" he shouted happily, as he tore of the skin hungrily. She ate in silence, laughing every now and then as she watched his tail swing back and forth. A thought suddenly occurred to her.
"Son-kun... I want to do it again!!"
"What??" his voice was muffled as he chewed.
"I want to... I wanna go on another adventure!! Just the two of us!! We'll look for the dragon balls, and make a wish!! What do you think??"
Suddenly, Goku looked like he was eleven years old again. "That's a great idea, Bulma!!! Let's go!!!"
Bulma accidentally dropped her fish. "You mean... right now, right now??"
"Yeah!!" he shouted excitedly, jumping to his feet. "We can't waste anymore time, just sitting here!!! Let's go!!!"
"But... what about my mom--"
"I bet she already knows!!! Let's go already!!!"
She gave him a determined grin, and she put sand over the fire to put it out. "You've convinced me!! Let's go!!!"
Just as they ran off to begin the dragon ball hunt, her mother sat at the table in silence, sipping on her tea, and holding the daily muse in her hand.
"Take care... Bulma-chan."
