~~~~~~~```Last Chapter
There's no future for a son under this burden of grief
No leading to walk aside this tormented ghost
Two crestfallen figures clinging together in fathomless dark
In maelstrom of despair father suppressing the only shine
As the end is slowly looming our paths must now diverge
Pressure slowly easing, shackles unchained, uplifting
Brighter the sun to a forsaken child than to a father in despair
Disencumbered from this grief with the most cruel way
Deserted to be alone, abandoned to be free
Insomnium- Disengagement
~Flashback~~~
Vegeta opened his tired eyes and looked out onto the old and tattered throne room. The red carpet that lined a pathway from the large double doors that were falling off the hinges, to where he was sitting was ripped and lacked the same brightness it held years ago. His gaze caught the blowing curtains, dust and other fragments falling off as they did so. Vegeta saw him standing there over looking a city that now crumbled to pieces right before their eyes. The once proud and indestructible king turned his stare upon his no longer young heir. “Wish her anew and it shall be.” Vegeta closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. A strong wind whipped his hair and upon opening his eyes he allowed the breath to escape him. The throne room had returned to the beautiful purity it had once been when he was forced to leave it all those years ago. The white marble floor shined and all the cracks and decay had faded away. The blood stain however stayed in place to honor the life that was taken there. The red carpet and curtains now ruby and soft. “That’s much better.” The king sighed. He left the brilliantly lit city, though lifeless, and went to his son. Vegeta stood and past his father to stand on the edge of the balcony. “I never thought I would see this place again.” He took a seat in his dias sighing out, relaxing, loving the sensations of a chair deeply missed. “So what is the meaning of this meeting, Vegeta?” Vegeta was silent. “Come now, boy. We do not have that much time here. They will know I’m missing soon enough.” Vegeta still didn’t move and the King sighed with a heavy heart. “Questions still bother you after so many answers. Only questions left are the ones only I know the answer to.”
“Why did you kill--”
“Your mother. I knew you would ask me this. I prepared for centuries on how to anser this. And I still do not have a proper answer. Not one you would like.” The king stood and walked over to the blood stained floor. “It wasn’t accident. But it wasn’t on purpose. She was my mate, Vegeta. I suffered for what I did long enough. She was so protective of you. She hated me for hurting you so badly. So protective she was willing to fight me, to even fight Frieza. I lost control but I knew what I was doing. I thought she was bad for you. That she was making you soft. Only after her death did I realize that her compassion and her heart were a significant key for you to become a Super Sayian. I failed you. That’s when I decided that Frieza was the best place for you.”
“Frieza! I was a child. And you just handed me over like I was some bargaining tool and not your son.”
“I was no father, Vegeta. You know that. I couldn’t raise you. Beating you to near death every sunrise wasn’t a life for you.”
“And Frieza was.”
“I made a very hard decision. I did what I thought was best for your survival. I didn’t want to let him have you. You are my only son. But I couldn’t protect you. Not from myself and not from others. And soon you would have surpassed me in power and then what? You would get no stronger because no one else could have reached your strength. But Frieza could and he made you strong.”
“I made me strong. He destroyed me. I was a slave for years. I’ve done things--”
“Some old story, Vegeta. It’s the same story. Everyone does things they regret. You have no idea the things I have done. But I wasn’t about to kill my only son. That’s what would have happened, Vegeta. I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if I killed you. You are the one, you--”
“Don’t say that ever!” Vegeta finally turned around to face his father that now stood a few feet in front of him. “You led me to believe that lie since I was a brat. But I won’t anymore.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You had me believe I was the one.”
“I don’t care if you believe it, Vegeta. You are the one.”
“The one of what? Answer me that. I have done nothing worthy of being the so called ‘one’. Yet I believed it my whole life and received nothing but grief from it. Kakarot is the--”
“Don’t ever say that again. You do not even know what being the one means so do not think you know who it is. It is you. Everyone in the fucking universe knew it was you. That’s why they always came after you. Every dark force was at our planet. So many battles because of it. So many lives lost. All to protect you. You may not remember it but you were always in danger. At your birth the queen of Demons, Kana, came and warned your mother and me. She said if you were not kept safe, the prophecy would come undone. She said that this couldn’t happen. And it didn’t.”
“Oh, it did. The day you gave me to Frieza.”
“You lived. In spite of all the trials, you lived. Don’t you see, Vegeta, no one else could have survived all that you did. You are the one Sayian that has become a true warrior.” The king shook his head, “You think I didn’t fight. Why do you think Frieza destroyed us, Vegeta? Radditz sent us a decoded message. He said the deal went wrong. That Frieza was killing you. So I sent in a force to get you while I distracted Frieza. But you were well protected. I betrayed Frieza and Frieza made sure he had his revenge.”
“How could I be the one? I achieved nothing in this life. I only failed because I was trying to reach a goal that didn’t exist.”
“You reached it, Vegeta. You are the one, you proved it on so many occasions. It’s just easier to see watching below. I won’t apologize for it, Vegeta. If I hadn’t beaten it in you, you would have never survived. You may thank me later.”
“Thank you?!”
“Accepted.” Vegeta smashed his fist in the marble rail causing it to fall and crash eighty feet below. The King chuckled going back inside to view a picture of the queen that hung right above the dias. “Anymore questions, Vegeta? I am tired. Feeling this body again, it’s so damn heavy.” He turned to Vegeta. “I don’t want you to be miserable anymore, son. So if you need to forget me, I’ll understand. Hell, I want you to forget me. Just live. Hopefully content. But just live.” The image of his body was starting to fade, Vegeta watched on trying to think of any other question but nothing came out of his mouth. “I am proud of you, my son. And I am sorry.”
Vegeta awoke to the sight of his mate’s gorgeous and teary blue eyes. They widened upon seeing him awake. “Are you okay?” She kissed his lips.
He pushed her away and sat up, throwing his legs over the bed. “I need to do something.” He paused and then turned to look at her. “I need you to do something.”
“What?”
“Ta ke the chip out.”
Her brows knit and she quickly shook her head. “No. No, Vegeta you said it would--”
“I know a way. But tomorrow. Get your medics, or whatever. Bring Kakarot. You must get it out.”
“But, you haven’t been in any pain, what if has gone away?”
“It won’t go away until you take it out. That is final.” He got from the bed and jumped out the window without another look back.
Trunks sat by the pool watching the sunrise and for the first time not dreading it. He fiddled with a diamond ring between his finger, sighing out in frustration. He was afraid of making another mistake. He was almost nineteen, married once, divorced once, was this really what he needed? He loved Zanny, nothing could deny that. She calmed him. Those eyes of hers could never tell a lie. He chuckled, she sucked at lying.
Then he thought of Nesa. How beautiful she looked beneath him, her breath in his ear, her moans, his name rolling off her lips. Tears sprung up missing the way she felt. He was still so desperately in love with her. And Jory, gorgeous Jory who was no longer his to protect. He never felt like a father but that didn’t mean he hadn’t loved the little one the moment he kicked in the womb.
“Trunks.” He closed his eyes knowing what this conversation was going to be about. “I’m packed. Jory and me.”
He stuffed the ring in his pocket and looked up at her. “So where’s this house?”
“In Australia. He just got moved there by his job. And I think it’s better if I get away from here. We’re still in danger.”
“I can’t protect you that far away.”
“It’s not your job anymore.” She whispered holding back a sob that was forcing it’s way out.
His brows knit and he shook his head. “I don’t think I’m ready for this.”
She knelt down in front of him, grasping his hands in his lap and looking up into his tearing eyes. “It’s something we both need. And we both know no matter how much we want to be together, nothing can change what I did. And nothing can make it better. It’s not our time, baby. The only time we can be together is when all of the anger leaves your heart.”
“I’ve tried not to hate you. I’ve tried to think of the things I love about you.” She stood but he pulled her down into his lap and cradled her, their foreheads touching. “Your laugh.” She cried out. “Your eyes. The way you yell at the TV when you don’t like what they say.” He sniffed. “The way you hold Jory. How you brush his hair.”
“It’s going to take a long time to fix what I did. Maybe ten years from now, if your not married and if you still love me, we can be together. But don’t think of me in any decision that you make from now on. Think of only what makes you happy.”
“You make me happy.” He grasped her lips and tears fell as she responded with force.
But she then pulled away. “But I also make you so miserable. And I couldn’t live a life like that. And I don’t want you to either.” She stood and he stood with her to wrap her in his arms. “Taylor seems to make you happy too.”
He nodded into her neck, “She does. She’s wonderful. And I do love her.”
“Then be with her. It may not be what we want but it’s for the best. And It’s not like we’ll never see each other. Jory’s birthday is coming up. And you better be there. I’ll call you all the time. We’ll be good friends. Okay?”
He touch her cheek, “Okay.”
“I love you, Trunks.”
“I love you too.” He kissed her chastely on the lips and watched her walk away. Though out of the corner of his eye he saw movement. Taylor was walking into the house.
Vegeta watched her pace in her quiet corner nervously biting her nail on her thumb. He chuckled and glanced around. He interrupted her pace and she gazed at him with the brightest blue he ever seen. “Please don’t make me do this.”
“You’ll do it. You do not trust anyone else to and neither do I. Kakarot is here. I have told him what he is to do. If the chip blows up before you remove it, he will encompass the blast in a shield.”
“Which will still kill you.”
“But not you. And once the chip is removed he will transport it before the trigger is tripped.”
A tear escaped, “I just lost my father last week, Vegeta. Please don’t make me go through this.”
He growled violently. “I do not plan to die today. So do not mess up.” He smirked seeing the fire of anger light in her gaze.
“You’re such an ass. I hope it does blow up!” She went to storm off but he grabbed her arm yanking her against him to kiss her hard. When he was finished he pushed her away. She stomped her foot in dismay and as she passed swearing he smacked her ass.
Trunks flew to their bedroom window dropped to the floor. She was packing a suitcase. He smiled at her flush cheeks and frowned at the tears. “Where are you going?”
“Home.”
“And why is that?”
“Because you’re obvious playing games with me.” Her anger was subdued by a sob and she sat on the bed holding her face in her hands.
Trunks sat down beside her. “I take it you saw the whole exchange.”
“From the time you put her on youa lap.”
“And you think what?”
“That you still love her.”
“Yes, I do. But you knew that.”
“And you still want to be with her instead of me.”
“Now that is where your wrong.” She lifted her eyes to gaze at him. He smiled and wiped away her tears. “I love you too, you know. And if something happened and we weren’t together, I’d still love you. It’s the same with Nesa. But Nesa is no longer going to be a part of my life. You are. You’re my future.”
Her tears cleared up but still sadness prevailed her features. “But you don’t want to marry me.”
He chuckled, “Yes I do. But. Not for a long time. Are you mad?”
“Mad about that, no.” She smiled and stood placing her hands on her hips. “Mad about you kissing another girl, pretty mad.” He grinned seeing her anger grow. “Now I don’t know how relationships go on in Japan but in ameaica you don’t touch other girls. This time I’ll make an exception but if it happens again Trunks Briefs me and you are going to have a problem.”
He stood and held her in his arms, “Your perfect.”
“I know now go wipe youa mouth off.” He laughed on his way to the bathroom.
Vegeta’s fought to open his eyes though the brightness was an enemy of his right now. He felt the touch of his arm and the kiss on his cheek so he slowly let the light in only to find her, smiling down at him. “So how do you feel?”
“It went well?”
“Goku was able to catch it before it blew up. Everything’s fine. You want to sit up?”
Vegeta stared up at the ceiling watching the fan circulate. He breathed deep and let it out, “It’s done.”
“What’s done?”
He took his gaze from above and placed it on her. He lifted his hand and tucked a few strands of blue behind her ear which made her smile. “All of it.” Vegeta sat up touching the wrap that circled his head. “My hair better grow back.”
“It as in the flashbacks? The pain? It’s gone?”
“It’s over.”
Tears fell from her eyes, “Thank Kami.” She buried her head in his neck.
“Bulma.” She looked up with confusion. He looked away. But it was then that she smiled.
Bulma gripped his chin to bring his eyes back on her. “Don’t ever say.” His brows knit. “Saying it will have no meaning to me. Because it’s not you.” She moved her body on top of his. “Just touch me. Because that means so much more then any words.”
Vegeta smirked and lifted her on top of him.
