~AN: In the previous chapter, from 'Cadell raised his head at the gunfire.', was a flashback scene. The kids escaped, and went to earth, 20 years in the past. The kid's parents, at the beginning of the chapter, are in the present day timeline. I hope that's unconfused some people.~

Black Flowers - Klara_in_flares
Black Flowers ; chapter 17, 'Is There Something More to Believe In?'

"That's when you found us." Bulma noted.

"Lucky escape from the sounds of it." Vegeta snapped.

Rhiamon nodded. "Luck had everything to do with it." He agreed. "I don't know to this day how we got out at all."

"We need to stay on subject here!" Cadell's fist slammed down on the table, and the echo rang through the room. Cadell lifted his fist, and the marble was smoothly dented. "What matters here is that they're coming! They're on their way, whether you fools want to believe it or not!" He yelled.

The faces of the girls' were pale, and Bra stumbled, caught by Goten who helped her to sit down on one of the chairs.

"We have been complacent ever since we arrived here! Enough is enough!" He snarled. His presence was startling. He wasn't the mysterious quiet young man anymore. He was a leader.

Rayne tentatively put her hands on his shoulders, despite him snarling at her. "Cadell, calm down." She scolded him. "Over reacting like this isn't going to solve anything."

"She's right." Goten spoke up. "Listen dude, your still a kid, you know? Chill."

Cadell tried his hardest to compose himself. He answered Goten, but projected it to all the other sin the room. "You think we're kids?" he asked hollowly. "You think we had childhood's? Do you think our mothers tucked us in at night?" His voice raised again, until Rayne soothed him again. Slowly and reluctantly, his muscles relaxed again.

You could see the mixture of thoughts across everyone's faces as they gazed at the youths. Each youth still did look young, the oldest pair were only 20. But their eyes told a different story. Even Eira's, behind her ditzy and carefree personality, she held her secrets, her hurt like the others.

Goku looked pained, having been deep in thought until now, listening. "You guys have never been kids, have you?" He asked simply. Cadell, who had sat down now, looked up at him, his eyes yearning for understanding. "Your souls are so old, even though you are so young in body. Even older than mine." He confessed. He looked embarrassed as everyone listened intently. "I can just... sense it." He explained.

Cadell and the other youths silently accepted what Goku had said. "Back to the officers." Rhiamon began. "There was first Raven. He was most likely with the patrols, even if we never faced him in that battle. He has a long history. And a reputation that would make even the bravest warrior quake in his boots." Vegeta grunted with laughter here, a smirk growing on his face. Rhiamon ignored his arrogance and continued. "However, it was Raven that turned a blind eye to us being on that station at that time. Then there was Razor. Razor was in control of our missions particularly. Not a person you would ever want to cross. Each of us at some point has tried… and failed. At his side, Pepper. Pepper conducted a lot of our training under Razor's 'supervision'.

"They'll have most likely got through, possibly with a few patrols by their side." Arienne added quickly. "That is a cause for a lot of concern…"

Gohan digested this. "Can you defeat these officers?" he asked simply. The youths wore looks of frustration and anger. Gohan realised just how serious the situation was. "Oh Dende…" he muttered.

"These are more powerful than you've seen." Cadell confirmed. "In our time, we have conquered galaxies. Thousands, maybe millions of civilizations at our command. Whole cultures and solar systems crushed under the army's cruel fist. It's going to take more than us to stop them. He clenched his fist as he turned his face away. "I thought we could defeat them on our own. That we wouldn't need to involve any of you. This is your time, you should not be involved in this fight at all."

"We'll help fight." Goku expressed, followed by agreement from the Z gang.

Cadell growled. "You don't understand! This isn't your fight! We are here to stop our future repeating itself. We need your aid for facilities and to back us up. But that's where it ends. Leave the battle politics to us."

"Cadell... you're our children. We care about you." Pan said. "You're my son. Even if two weeks ago I didn't know you or the others existed. I love you. We want to fight!"

"Don't get attached to us." Tristian growled. "This is our battle. Our fight."

Bra frowned, her pretty face creasing with anger. "Why are you all so damn stubborn?" She cried, slamming her own hand down on the marble table. Her blue eyes burned with rage. "You can't brush us off as easily as that! This is our future at stake as well! Or didn't you think of that?"

There was a deathly silence around the room. Gohan took off his glasses, and thoughtfully massaged the inner corner of his eye. "We'll need to be prepared, if what you say is true." He said solemnly. He replaced his glasses with a deep sigh. "Will this Earth ever find peace?"

"Until it does, we can train!" Goten said defiantly, standing up.

Pan leapt up from her chair too. "Hell yeah!"

After a few moments, Cadell reluctantly nodded at Gohan. He sighed, putting his hands to his head. The room seemed smaller... shakier. He blinked as his vision became blurred. He gave a deep sigh as he slumped unconscious, everything flooding black around him.

"Is Cadell in the tank?" Gohan asked Bulma as she re emerged from the medical bay for the second time that day.

"He's sleeping like a baby in there." Bulma said, trying to smile softly. She went to slip past him, but Gohan caught her arm.

"How are you feeling?" his dark Saiyan eyes were serious, but caring. He wasn't so easily fooled.

Bulma paused reluctantly. She folded her arms awkwardly. "He hasn't said anything." She confessed. "I wouldn't speak to him even if he did try." She lifted her chin defiantly.

Gohan stared at her searchingly for a moment, before letting a smile grace his lips. Bulma was strong willed. Maybe that's why Bulma and Vegeta had lasted so long? She had been the only one to match his will and win. But what had gone wrong this time? Why now? They had always sorted out arguments in the past. They argued continuously after all. But this felt different somehow.

Gohan was startled by Bulma's hand reassuringly touching his cheek. "Gohan... I can guess what you're thinking." She slightly tilted her head to the side, a faint, brave smile on her lips. "This might just be another argument, right? We'll probably kiss and make up." She laughed lightly. "But if we don't… We've lasted all these years. Maybe we were just lucky? Maybe it's burning out…"

Gohan's eyes widened. "Bulma! How can you just throw in the towel? How can you give up like this?" He demanded with surprise. "How do you know that this isn't just another argument? Aren't you jumping to conclusions?"

Bulma almost looked serious as she talked. "Gohan... You're very intelligent." She scolded him softly. "I think you know as well as I do this has been coming for 17 years now." She watched as Gohan's mind played on the significance of the figure. She saw the realisation cross his face as she continued. "Ever since she was born, that we knew you had a daughter. He changed. Don't you see? That's why he was so distant of me when Trunks was born. He couldn't bear the fact he had not mated with another Saiyan… that his first child was not from a Saiyan female. Of course... he grew to love me and Trunks in time. He couldn't hide that from us, no matter how hard he tried. He accepted the limitations of his dreams I guess."

"Bulma! He loves you. I know he does." Gohan protested. "Pan has nothing to do with it."

"Don't be so stubborn. I saw him when he realised Videl had given birth to a Saiyan female. He's watched Pan grow up with an interest I didn't even dare challenge him on!" Bulma raised her voice. "What do you think went through his mind when the kids arrived? For Kami's sake! When he was told that HE fathered Pan's daughter?"

Gohan frowned deeply. He hated it. He hated the fact what she said made so much sense. Bulma was saying this so passionately, like she believed it so much herself. He sighed, troubled. "When he made Pan pregnant, it was under extreme circumstances. It wasn't his choice."

"I know, I'm sorry." Bulma replied. "It's just… I've seen the way he looks at Pan. Vegeta settled for me because they're weren't any Saiyan females alive."

Gohan frowned even more. "You can't honestly believe he is attracted to Pan." He cried. "Have you seen the age gap? He wouldn't dare! Never!"

"All I'm saying is to be careful." Bulma said soothingly. "If it is true, and it's over between us. He might... I'm not sure. I've just got this feeling." She finished sadly.

"Bulma, you're stronger than this! Don't let yourself be beaten! He still loves you, I know he does." Gohan pleaded.

"I know he does." She admitted. "I think some part of him always will, and I'm thankful, for that. But I know when to let go." Before Gohan could protest, Bulma had slunk away down the hallway of the Corp. Gohan absorbed all that Bulma had said. Vegeta… Was it true? Would he pursue Pan? Gohan silently cursed with seething anger at the thought of it. Never would he allow that! Not Vegeta's untrustworthy hands. The same hands that had killed so much innocence. He clenched his fist in an attempt to calm down. He was taking this too seriously. Bulma would be still in a state of grief and shock, and may have not realised just what she was implying. Gohan hoped to Kami that's what had happened.

Every morning, it was the same. One or more of the youths were in the regeneration tanks. The training was getting more and more serious. So when the door to the med lab creaked open, it was no surprise as they heard footsteps padding softly down the corridor.

Tristian walked into the kitchen, his entire body still glistening with water droplets that rolled sensually over his aching muscles. He stretched lazily. "Man... I ache all over." He murmured sleepily. "I guess Rhiamon really wiped the floor with me." He frowned with confusion. "That's if I could actually remember…"

He shrugged, and knelt down to raid one of the capsule fridges. Bra watched with fascination as the muscles in his back flexed. He stood up, opening a can of soda, and downing it thirstily on the spot. His trademark tight black boxer shorts clung to his frame and were soaked right through from the tank.

Bulma smirked, watching her daughter's staring. "Bra… close your mouth dear." She said cheekily.

Bra blushed hotly as Gohan, Trunks, Goten and Tristian looked at her suspiciously. Her eyes shyly met Tristian's, and she blushed deeper as he winked discreetly at her, striding past them to dry himself off.

Goten grinned. "Somebody has a crush." He sing-songed. Bra grabbed the nearest thing to her to throw at Goten's head. It turned out to be a large plastic ladle. Goten flinched as the large plastic spoon thwacked off his forehead.

Bulma seemed to be shifting nervously in her seat. "Bra, honey. We need to talk about something. It's important." She said to her daughter.

Bra whirled to face her, her blue eyes suspicious. "This about you and Daddy, isn't it?" She demanded. She glanced at her older brother, who solemnly nodded.

"Bra... we're divorcing."

Bra froze at her mother's simple words. Divorce…? She leapt up from her chair in shock. "NO! No! You're not! You can't be! Why????" She yelled.

Bulma stood up too. "Honey… We grew apart. We thought it would be better to part on good terms..."

Bra seemed lost in thought. "It's because of me, isn't it?" She accused. "Because of what I've done! You and Daddy can't stand me, can you?"

Bulma and Trunks alike looked taken back. "It's ok for Trunks and Daddy! Even Goten, Gohan and Goku! Because they're males! But Pan and me... We're sluts, aren't we?"

Bulma was at her daughter's side in an instant. She caught her shoulders, and Bra started to thrash, sobbing. "Bra! It's not because of that! Any of that! I swear!" Bulma cried.

"Then why?" Bra sobbed. She was near hysterical. Bulma drew her into a hug. Bra resisted, but eventually collapsed in her mother's embrace, while Bulma made soothing sounds in her ear. Bra slowly calmed to sniffles and a few hiccups.

Bulma looked over her daughter to he tall son. "Trunks... where's your father?" she asked.

"I don't know." He answered. "But he's close by."

Bulma thought. "Look after Bra, would you honey? I'll go look for him." She said, passing her exhausted daughter into Trunks' strong arms.

Bulma walked out of the Corp, her arms around herself. The morning air was crisp, and the grass was damp around her bare toes.

"You told her?"

Bulma looked up at the gruff voice. "Yeah…" She answered weakly. "She's torn apart. I knew she would be."

She watched Vegeta stare at his daughter being comforted by her brother through the window. His face was stern, but his eyes gave him away. They were soft, and full of hurt at seeing his little princess so upset. "I'll talk to her." He said.

Bulma smiled weakly at her ex-lover. "She'll want to talk to you." She agreed. Vegeta glanced in her direction. Her face was wistful, but relived. They had kept up this charade for long enough now. They were matched perfectly in temperament, but not in soul. Not in the way a Saiyan needs to be matched to a mate. His heart almost ached that her human mind couldn't even comprehend it. For years now... they had been together, but not truly. They didn't hold each other in the dark nights anymore. Sex was never a problem, but with it had no passion. They both knew something had died. And they both knew of Bulma's affairs. Even if Vegeta never confronted her. She was thankful to him for that.

What Vegeta had said, back in the gravity rooms. It had been overdue. They needed something to break down the final parts… that had been tying them together in such a cold relationship. …They needed to let go.

"I'll go to her." Vegeta announced.

Bulma nodded, and turned to go back inside, but to a different part of the Corp. She paused, half turning. "...I loved you."

"I loved you, Onna."

Bulma fully spun around, her eyes wide. But he was gone. She felt the tears begin to trail down her once dry cheeks. She heard a rumble above as the sky opened. The rain fell down, soaking her green blue curls. She began to understand. She had not truly lost him. It was much deeper than that. Even if she had lost his love, she hadn't really lost it all. A part of him would always love her, as she would him.

It was hard to think of the impending threats, with so much else around them. First the six youths had appeared. It hadn't been easy, learning their cruel origins. Or learning their heritages. Although the males had only fathered one child each, except Goten, it was still so much to get accustomed too. Trunks mused on this as he walked down the busy high street. His own son... Cadell. Maybe it was fatherly intuition, but something wasn't quite right. He seemed so preoccupied. Even so than the other youths, that seemed pleasantly relaxed on many occasions. Was this new threat to be feared so much? The world had been in danger so many times before... it was difficult to believe they couldn't beat whatever came their way. Trunks would have loved to have his father's arrogance about he situation. But in the back of his mind... he wondered. Why were Cadell and the others so worried? He knew they knew far more than they had told about so far. They seemed to have a reluctance to delve to far into their pasts. Trunks sighed deeply, putting his hands in his trenchcoat's pockets. Gohan had taken control of the situation, as he had been half-expected to. He was gathering information, the whereabouts of the army in this present timeline, in hope of discovering some sort of future plans. The meeting and board rooms of the Corp now reminded Trunks of some sort of FBI headquarters, strewn with coffee cups, maps, computers, systems…

They had also begun training again. Not as extensively as the youths. It was frightening to watch. But he guessed it was more than necessary.

And as well as all of this, his parents. A divorce. He could hardly believe it, after al these years... it was unreal. It wouldn't affect him so much. He was far old enough to take care of himself, even if he did still reside at the Corp. No, it was Bra who had taken it the hardest. He growled when he thought of the careless things Vegeta had said in front of Bulma. His father was much too old for Pan! Even though he truly believed this had nothing to do with the marriage break down in it's entirety, it was still a factor.

Trunks closed the front door of the Corp wearily as he eventually returned home. He walked through to the kitchen, his Saiyan stomach pretty much top dog right now. Goten and Tristian were talking at the breakfast bar.

Tristian put his arms back supporting his head. "That's the hard life of a solider." He sighed dramatically. "You learn to take your kicks wherever you can get em'." He finished with a smile.

Goten nodded in absolute agreement. Trunks took a seat with the two men, joining the conversation.

Eira wandered through to the kitchen next. She yawned, and tied her long hair back into a high ponytail. She sat down between Tristian and Trunks. She glanced at Tristian's hands as he reached for his burger.

"You borrowed nail polish off Bra?" She asked. He smiled at her.

"Yeah. She has lots of colours." He grinned. He flexed his hands to reveal his new deep purple nails. (AN: Trissy is fairly goth :)

Eira rolled her eyes. "Rhiamon! How did it go with your new girlfriend?" She suddenly piped up, remembering Marron.

Rhiamon took a sip of his coffee. "She's not my girlfriend. She's a friend." He corrected his sister.

"But I bet she's a very close friend!" Eira grinned. "Have you been spending lots of time with her?"

"Her Mom had to explain your 'situation'." Trunks told her. "It might take a while to get used to it."

Arienne strode in with purpose as Trunks finished talking. "Eira! I told you not to take my razor!" she said with irritation.

"Oh, slapped wrist there." Cadell joked, but in his serious tone as he walked in.

"I lost mine." Eira whined. "I don't want fuzzy legs!"

The others began smirking. "Why does it matter how hairy your legs are here?" Arienne interrogated her. "It's not like anyone's here to feel them…"

"If I remember, we left him on the main ship." Tristian recalled.

Cadell frowned. "I didn't like him." He muttered decidingly.

Eira looked around the others. " I don't think it's any of your business!" she snapped with an adorable and irritated frown.

Rayne suddenly came up behind her, and gave her a hug. "We're just looking out for you, that's all."

"Speaking of looking out for each other…" Cadell began, staring meaningfully at Rayne

Rayne glared back at him. "Excuse me? I don't recall being the subject of the conversation." She warned him.

"Cadell, just drop it." Eira pleaded. "Don't fight! Please?"

"Don't tell me to 'drop it'!" He protested. "I'll say what needs to be said!"

"And just what 'needs' to be said?" Rayne challenged him, standing up.

"I think you know." Cadell growled.

"Is this about Raven again?" Tristian snorted. "Can't you leave this alone? It's getting old."

"You'd think you were the one having an affair with him!" Arienne snapped at Cadell.

Rayne smirked at the support she was receiving.

Cadell looked at Rayne with seriousness. "He's bad news. Why can't you see that?"

"If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have gotten out!" Rayne bit back. The others flinched to hear the normally peacemaking girl arguing. Especially Goten, and Trunks, who didn't really know what to do.

"I didn't need any help from people like him." Cadell snarled.

"You can't accept help from anyone, can you?" Rayne accused. "Why can't you accept he wanted to help us?"

"He was most likely persuaded by the favors you did for him." Cadell accused back.

Rayne fumed. "It wasn't like that!" She yelled.

"Oh really? Tell me then. What was it like?" Cadell said tauntingly.

"You're a bastard." Rayne snarled coldly.

Cadell smiled sardonically. "And you're a whore."

Rayne slapped him across the face. "Don't you ever call me that again." She warned icily. She strode out of the room.

Cadell stood up at the same time as Rhiamon. He looked at him challengingly.

"That was out of line." Rhiamon warned.

"Was I?" Cadell asked.

Rhiamon stepped closer to him. "She did what she had to. I respect her for that." He said quietly.

"Well, I don't accept it." Cadell challenged. The two men stood glaring at each other. Eira pulled Rhiamon away.

Cadell's face softened and his face also showed concern. "I don't trust him." He confessed.

Rhiamon looked at his face for a moment. "Neither do I." He agreed. "But she loves him. You can't do anything about that."

"If he finds us, he won't show any mercy." Cadell said solemnly.

"I know." Rhiamon said. He walked out of the room, and Cadell sat down, putting his face in his hands.

Eira noticed the worried faces of Trunks and Goten. "Sorry." She apologized with a ditzy shy smile. "We fight sometimes."

"Who is this 'Raven'?" Trunks asked. "Didn't you mention him earlier today?"

Cadell looked up and nodded. " 'General' Raven." He corrected him with a strange smile. "Of the Black Flowers army."

Trunks' face paled. "General?" He stuttered.

Cadell didn't have to confirm it. "Do you understand why I'm concerned?" He asked.

"It's Rayne's choice." Eira reminded him.

Goten let the news sink in before he spoke. "Rayne... Rayne and he are involved?"

Cadell sighed. "Yes. As in sleeping with. She was sleeping with one of the highest-ranking generals, and one of the cruelest. I swear…" He clenched his fist, then relaxed again. "But that's her business."

Trunks looked lost in thought. "Cadell… I think we're going to need to know more…" He began, thinking of the others.

__*__

"We could be better prepared if we knew more. Just knowing however much information we have even from the kids isn't enough." Gohan sighed. He tried to find a place to even put down his newly emptied coffee cup amongst so many. He glanced around the room, hopeful of suggestions, new angles or ideas.. anything. He frowned to see his father absently spinning this way and that discreetly on a spinning chair. He stopped guiltily as he saw his son raise an eyebrow at him.

"The only thing we need to know is how well they fight." Vegeta snapped with a follow up smirk.

Gohan adjusted his glasses on his nose. "We want some sort of strategy!"

Goku looked up from his chair. "I think the best we're going to get is to train as much as we can until then." He said.

Gohan took a seat with exasperation. Goten and Trunks walked into the room, both with worried expressions.

"Dude… the general." Goten began.

Gohan and the others looked up at him with curiosity. "A general? Who?"

"The general that lead the army. It's Raven." Trunks explained.

"Raven? The one that Rhiamon talked about?" Gohan asked with surprise. He regressed into deep thought. "He said that he'd let them be on the station at the time of the escape, though."

"Apparently, and unfortunately for us, he's big news." Trunks continued.

"That's all we need. We have little information as it is!" Gohan said with frustration.

Trunks paused. "We may have a source." He expressed.

Goku snapped his gaze up. "Who?"

Trunks sighed. "Rayne." He answered to the sea of confused faces. "They were involved…"

There was a stunned silence. "Involved?" Vegeta demanded.

Gohan stood up with a start, screeching his chair behind him. "Where is she now???"

"She's training." Trunks said. He led them out of the room and along the capsule's corridors. Each fell into a quick paced stride.

Gohan was silent and tight-lipped. "Involved?" he finally queried. Trunks blushed and looked away. Gohan sighed deeply, taking the gesture.

"Baka onna...." Vegeta huffed.

__*__

The gravity room pressure was 400 times normal gravity. Rayne's fists were bound up as she ruthlessly attacked the punching bag. She was beyond frustrated! Each blow brought an insane satisfaction. She was dressed in just a g-stringed sleeveless training suit with leotard tights and Saiyan boots. She had roughly pulled her short hair back with a bandana tied around her head, her long blue green fringe still in her startling blue and angry Saiyan eyes. She was drenched in sweat now.

"Gravity pressure decreasing. Simulation terminated." The computerized voice said. She heard the door being opened by the outside lock. Gohan, Goten, Vegeta and Goku walked in. Rayne ignored them, continuing her workout despite the simulation being turned off.

She looked very unapproachable…

"Rayne…?" Goten said shyly. "We need to know about Raven."

At the sound of the name, she paused, her body tensed considerably. She threw a vicious punch at the punching bag, her fist in golden flames of energy. "Why are you asking me?" She retorted.

"Brat, we know about your relations with him." Vegeta snorted. "We need information." Gohan glared at Vegeta for being so blunt.

Rayne snapped her eyes to behind them as she saw Tristian and Cadell slink in, solemn faced. Rayne glared at them, feeling trapped. "What is this? A conspiracy?" Rayne demanded with distaste. The others were taken back. This was a new side of the peacemaker they had gotten to know.

"Rayne… tell them." Cadell said solemnly. Rayne ignored him completely, going back to her training, violently and with a new vengeance.

Vegeta snorted. "She has spunk for being Kakkorrot's spawn." He mused. Cadell was the only one to approach her. He grabbed her wrist.

"Rayne… they need to know." He told her.

Rayne wriggled in his grasp. "Fuck you!" She cursed through clenched teeth. "Why the hell should I?"

She wriggled again, before taking him off guard. She threw him across the room with a burst of power. Cadell burst into Super Saiyan before he touched the floor. "Stop being so damn difficult!" He growled with annoyance.

Rayne stood squarely to face him. She swiftly planted her feet wider apart in fighting stance.

"Make me."
