She stooped over the rose. Its velvet texture tickling the tips of her fingers. She drew back not wanting to hurt the flower.
" Beautiful, isn't it?" came a soft whisper. Strands of purple hair swept over her shoulder and warm lips touched her cheek.
"I haven't seen one in so long. How long will our world have this kind of peace. We could be killed at any time," she said. Looking at the rose, her eyes filled with tears.
"No. It is over. The androids are dead."
"How do you know! No one knows for sure, Trunks. So what if no one has seen them for a year! Maybe they are recharging their batteries!"
She leaned against him and let out her tears of frustration. Trunks wrapped his arms around her.
They had been dating for almost 5 months. He thought back to when he had first met her. She was helping out in the children's ward of the local hospital. Trunks had just defeated Cell and had to rush his mom to the hospital.
: Thanks mom. Your nosey nature turned that awful day into the happiest day in my life.:
"Misty." Trunks said lightly and placed his finger under her chin as he slightly pulled away from her. He gently urged her to look him in his eye. He leaned towards her brushed his lips across hers. "Misty, honey, we don't have to live in fear anymore. I think it is time I told you something."
Misty turned her eyes up to his and looked at him. She could feel an unusual sense of fear in him. She looked at him closely. He quickly looked away but not before she saw the seriousness in his eyes. She reached down and grabbed his hand. Slowly, in silence, they walked to the hovercar. He opened the door for her and jumped, gliding to his side. Misty eyes widened ,as he gracefully landed in the driver's seat. She swallowed and began to try to speak.
" It's ok, Mist. I'll explain everything to you." Trunks said placing his hand on her thigh, feeling her muscles tighten beneath it. He looked down at the thigh and then to her eyes.
Trunks removed his hand from her thigh. He put the key in the ignition and started to drive. Misty folded her hands in her lap and sat stiffly beside him.
"What are you?" She finally asked. "Are you one of them?"
Trunks gripped the steering wheel.
"How could you ask me that? Have I ever hurt you? Have I ever tried to hurt anyone else?"
"Well I just saw you float in mid-air, Trunks!" she shouted.
" And that makes me a vicious android?" he asked through clenched teeth. He turned to look at her.
"Look out!" She yelled, just as Trunks swerved around the sharp corner. He pulled off the road. He laid his head on the steering wheel, silently cursing himself for a thousand fools. He felt Misty's soft hand on his shoulder.
" Aren't you afraid I'll eat you and your little puppy too?" he asked menacingly.
" Trunks, stop. Maybe you aren't a vicious android, ok, but no human can… can do what ever it was you just did! But those androids… those androids could fly."
Misty's hand slid slowly down his arm, causing familiar sensations to course through him, before it dropped into her lap. He lifted his head slightly and glanced at her. She pulled her feet onto the chair, wrapping her arms around her legs. She rested her chin on her knees. He loved her and everything about her. She was physically the most beautiful woman in the world to him. Her waist length, plum tresses fell forward, shielding her from his view.
" Misty, I'm human... part of me is." He sat back in the seat. Gohan why aren't you here?
" 'Part of me is'? What does that mean?" She sat stiff, unmoving. Her breathing picked up.
" Yes. My mother is human. My father was from another planet called Vegeta. His race is Saiyan."
Mist quickly sat back, hitting her head on the back of the seat. Her fingers dug into the leather of the seat. Her quick action startled Trunks who looked down at her. The look on her face surprised him even more. Instead of fear or confusion, there was a look of marked anger.
" How dare you! How dare you take me for a fool, Android! To think I was sitting here feeling BAD for doubting you!" She yelled.
Misty turned to see a car coming toward them. She leaped out of the car and ran to the street. She jumped up and down waving her arms, urgently. The car came to a grinding stop. Misty hopped in the car and began to speed down the highway. Trunks sat, staring at the spot where the woman he loved, left his heart.
