Gama's Blood Crystal
Chapter 8: Plans
"What's it like?"
She looked at him, startled. "What's what like?"
"Your home. What are the people like? Your family?"
She just stared at him. Family? There were so many things that she could say. And none of them went anywhere near the truth. "Fine. My family is good, tho small. My people are pretty…" Stupid? Self-centered? Asinine nitwits who only care for their money? "Average. Like your world I suppose. But with less violence." She mentally snorted. "At least those are the lies they keep trying to tell themselves as they pretend that they didn't just see some maniac shoot a random guy on the street and then run off. Never underestimate the power of denial. She glanced over at him. He'd just suddenly spoke to her, purposefully zeroing in on her personal life. Well, she was gonna die… No real harm in entertaining his questions for a little bit. After all, he did share his life pretty freely with her…
"Oh, so your race is very peaceful then?"
Only in death. And even then you have to merely glance at their corpses or you will quickly come to the realization that everything about us is false, shallow, and unraveling at the very seams of our pathetic lives. Out loud, however, she replied with "Yes. In a sense, we are."
"In a sense?"
Saria could glare at Trunks. Damn his word-picking. Surprisingly tho, she also felt like smirking at him too. Talking with him was almost… fun. "We try to be peaceful. But we do have to fight our own inner selves to accomplish this."
He gave an 'ah' of understanding. But apparently her cool exterior to him didn't seem to dissuade him from asking anything else. "Tell me about your life. Where do you go to school, if you do go?"
Mental sigh. School. What a hell-hole. She merely glanced at Trunks tho. "School's school. It's very boring. But then again, I suppose every kid feels that way." She'd ask him why he was so interested in her life, but knows it's most likely sheer curiosity. Or politeness. It probably doesn't matter which. Altho, if he had been a stranger, she would have scarred him for life long before now. Why amI being so nice anyways? Wonder if it's because they are the z-gang…? That must be it. I'm not this nice to anyone. And they arebeing nice to me. But then again, they haven't seen the real me yet.
Trunks is oblivious to her lack of speech. Or he just chooses to ignore it. "Are you actually going to tell me anything about your life?"
Saria really does smirk at this. "Not if I can help it."
Trunks shrugs nonchalantly. "Alright. Then tell me about your world and I won't ask about your life."
"Isn't that the same thing?"
"Not really. Your world doesn't have to have anything to do with you."
She looks at him without moving her head and then smirks inwardly. "Alright. We have a pretty average yellow star and we are the 3rd planet from it in our solar system." The look on Trunks face keeps her from going on as she almost laughed out loud, right then and there, but instead opted for a victorious smirk.
"That's not what I meant! And I know you know it!" Trunks was almost angry with her, and that just made her smirk even deeper.
"And your point is…?"
He growled at her in annoyance. Then they both hear Vegeta snicker and look over at him. He just shook his head and said only one thing before completely ignoring them once again. "Boy, take a hint." Trunks glared at him too, tho this time it was almost in embarrassment. Saria just couldn't take it anymore, and a small chuckle escaped her.
"Of course you would find this funny!" Trunks growled at her almost childishly.
This only caused her to chuckle louder, which further annoyed him. But before he could protest further, she turned to him and said "Trunks. I did say that I wouldn't talk about my life if I could help it."
He just stopped and stared at her in disbelief. Then he did something that surprised Saria to no end. He laughed, shook his head, and then spoke to her once again. "Fine. If that's how you wish to play, then I guess I'll have to beat you at your own game."
Saria looked at him with mild surprise showing on her face before giving an evil smirk that basically said "bring it on" as they continued walking.
"How many brothers or sisters do you have?" Trunks asks coyly.
"Do you want the imaginary ones in this list as well?" Saria taunts back at him.
"No. Living people should suffice." She could tell he wanted to glare at her.
"Well, I have no brothers." She finally said.
"What about sisters?"
"You said 'or'. I already made my choice."
He pauses to look at her. "What is your father like?"
She pauses, getting the strong urge to rip his throat out for asking. But he didn't know any better, so she let it slide. "He is like he always is. Now enough interrogation about my life. We should be reaching your friends soon enough."
Trunks looked slightly taken aback, but there hadn't been any noticeable change in her persona. It made him wonder if she was just annoyed with all his questions, or if her dad was a touchy subject. Before he could really say anything tho, he suddenly could see Goten, Gohan, and Videl down the hallway that they'd just turned down. He whooped with joy and ran over to Goten, both obviously happy to see each other. Vegeta and Saria, on the other hand, took their time in getting to the others. Trunks quickly relayed everything that had happened, also telling them how Saria could get them out of the maze. Earlier, Saria, Trunks, and Vegeta had decided to get to the entrance of the maze, wait for the blood demon to attack if they couldn't get out right then and there, and then kill the creature. The others quickly agreed to this plan, and everyone immediately set off, with Saria leading the way.
Saria was taking them thru the quickest route to the maze's center, not wanting to attract the blood demon's attention too soon. She had planned out what she would do when the bastard got there. She just hoped that the poems were right. Otherwise, there would be no getting out for the z-gang. It wasn't long before she passed the room full of bones that she had first woken up in. The Blood Demon's lair, obviously. She knew it wasn't too far now. Just down this hall…
"We're almost there now. The entrance should be just down this hall." She alerts everyone. There weren't very many rooms down in the labyrinth, and after the Blood Demon's lair, the entrance should be the only other doorway.
However, they didn't make it to the entrance in time, for the blood demon attacks, taking everyone by surprise. There was no warning roll of sand that throws everyone into the ground. Instead, the Blood Demon suddenly materializes in front of Goten (who'd been lagging a little behind everyone) and tackles him. Trunks was only a few feet away and immediately attacks as Goten struggles to get the fucker off. The others also quickly rush to help, but the demon sees this and lets go of Goten to jump into the sand.
Saria had followed too, but had suddenly realized that she should have stayed where she was so she could have made for an easy target. But the blood demon is already launching itself at another victim: Videl. Gohan's near enough to quickly step in front of the demon and stop it from getting Videl. The fighting continues on like this, but Saria had already gotten an idea into her head, and had stopped paying attention. She knew how to help everyone and kill the creature at the same time. As soon as she was convinced it was going to work, she checked everyone else. They were all completely distracted with the battle and multiple surprise attacks. This was her chance.
She gave one last look around, and regretfully, took off towards the blood demon's lair as fast as she could. Being at nearly full strength (which still surprised the hell out of her), she was incredibly fast, and made it there in no time.
The z-gang, however, were unaware of her absence, until the blood demon suddenly stopped mid-jump and practically flew into the sand, in the same direction that Saria had run down. They were confused at first, but then Trunks suddenly asked where Saria was. They looked around, wondering where she had taken off to, before suddenly realizing that she must have run off in fear and that the Blood Demon was heading after her for an easier target.
But why would she do something so cowardly? She seemed to have almost as much pride as Vegeta, and he instantly knew that she was up to something. Tho he mentioned nothing to the others. But what?
