How it all began-Part 13


Vegeta awoke with a start, scaring Bulma awake as well. “What the hell? What’s going on here?” Said Vegeta.

“Vegeta? What’s happening?” Asked Bulma.

Vegeta ran out the door, and Bulma ran after him. “Darn! Never trust an earthling!” He shouted in his mind.

Then, he noticed something outside the window. “SHOOT! How could I have slept this long! It’s dark out!” He cried.

“Vegeta, what are you talking about? Krillin told me that Namek doesn’t have night.” Said Bulma.

“That explains why the horizon isn’t dark. But what caused this?”

“Wait, the guys must’ve called the dragon!”

“What! Those little tricksters!”

“Oh no.”

“So what were you, they’re diversion while they stole the dragonballs out from under me?!!”

“What? No Vegeta…I wouldn’t…”

“It’s all slotting into place now woman! The game’s up, now you and your friends will pay for betraying me!”

Vegeta grabbed Bulma and blasted out of the ship. But stopped short when he caught sight of the dragon. “Holy Cosmos! That’s one whopper of a lizard!” Cried Vegeta.

“That must be the dragon of Namek! If he’s here that means that the guys are making their wishes!” Cried Bulma.

“Argh!!! Those little punks are going to pay dearly for this!”

Vegeta flew at break-neck speed to reach the island. “And to top it all of, Frieza is gonna show up any minute!” Vegeta thought frantically.

~~~On the island.~~~

Krillin sensed a massive power level heading their way. “Oh no, guys, he’s awake, and I think he woke up on the wrong side of the bed!” He shouted.

“Dende, hurry, make the wishes before he gets here!” Yelled Gohan.

“Right!” Cried Dende.

Dende turned to the dragon and began speaking in Namek. “Your wish has been granted. Now make your next wish.” Said the dragon.

“Alright! That means Piccolo is alive again!” Cried Gohan.

“Yeah, but it does us a fat lot of good if he’s in otherworld. Dende, the next wish is to bring Piccolo to Namek. Now make the wish fast! Vegeta’s almost here!” Shouted Krillin.

“Guys, there’s two energies! Vegeta’s bringing Bulma with him.” Said Tanya, as Dende began making the wish.

“What? Why would he do that?”

“He’s bringing her with him because he thinks we used her as a decoy. If there’s one thing Vegeta hates, it’s being played for a fool.”

“Oh no, I did use her as a decoy!”

“Don’t tell him that.”

“It is done, you second wish has been granted.” The dragon shouted, bringing them out of their dilemma.

“What? I don’t see him anywhere.” Said Gohan.

“Yeah Porunga, are you sure he’s…” Started Krillin.

“Guys please! If Porunga says he’s here, he’s here! We’re the ones who messed up!” Cried Dende.

“Oh no!”

“Yeah we wished him to Namek, remember!”

“Oh that’s just great! Way to screw up the wish you 2!” Shouted Tanya.

“Hey! I didn’t hear you make any contribution to the wish!” Krillin shouted back.

“Guys please don’t argue. We can still use our third wish to bring him to this exact spot.” Said Dende.

But then he let out a cry of fear that made them all spin around to see an irate Vegeta land with a very terrified Bulma under one arm. “H-Hi Vegeta.” Said Krillin, trembling much more than Bulma.

“Hi there, you seem surprised to see me, what’s the matter?” Snarled Vegeta, dropping Bulma as he stalked over to them.

“Nothing Vegeta, everything’s fine.” Stammered Gohan.

“No, something’s wrong. I can tell.”

Krillin and Gohan stepped back a few more steps towards the dragon. “Yes, you all called the dragon, didn’t you? You backstabbing cowards! I was asleep! Bad boys, how dare you, you fools! I spoiled you, new suits, saved your lives, all that and this is how you repay me? Well you can kiss it all goodbye!” He shouted, a power ball charging in his fist.

“Wait Vegeta, please don’t hurt them!” Cried Bulma.

“And you can keep out of this woman! You were in on this the whole time! Parading yourself in front of me so that these 4 could steal the dragonballs right out from under me!”

“That was never the plan Vegeta!” Cried Tanya.

Vegeta glared at her. “Yes, we took the dragonballs behind your back, but no, Bulma wasn’t in on it.” She continued.

“Don’t you dare lie for them Tanya!” Yelled Vegeta.

“I’m not lying Vegeta!”

“Wait Vegeta, you only wanted 1 wish for yourself. Well, we’ve only used 2 of our wishes so that means there’s still 1 wish left.” Said Gohan.

“Gohan, what did you say that for?” Asked Krillin.

“Yes! I’m glad you’re not as smart as I thought you were.” Said Vegeta.

“Oh shit.” Hissed Tanya.

~~~Not far away.~~~

Frieza spotted the dragon as he neared his ship. “What is that bizarre apparition?” He thought aloud.

“6 of them are gathered right beneath it. What? No! Those dirty, lowlife opportunists! They’ll pay dearly for this!”
Frieza sped up, determined to get there and make his wishes.

~~~Back with the dragon.~~~

“I am losing my patience! Make your last wish now!” Boomed the dragon.

“Alright, we’re out of time. Ask him to grant me eternal life.” Said Vegeta.

“No way Vegeta! If you wish for immortality and defeat Frieza, the rest of us have another megalomaniac to deal with. One’s enough for one lifetime thank you very much.” Said Tanya.

“Then what do you suggest? You know that this is the only way we can defeat Frieza, I’m the only one who can do it.”

“No it’s not and you know it. We can all work together to defeat Frieza. All of our power combined, mine and your knowledge of Frieza, the sheer will to win. We can do it together.”

“But can you guarantee that Tanya?”

“Well it’s better than letting you become immortal and then taking Frieza’s place. That is your ultimate goal, right Vegeta?”

“So what if it is?”

“Guys! We’re running out of time! We have to make a decision now, even if it’s not the best one.” Cried Gohan.

“I know what it means Tanya, I know we’ll have to deal with Vegeta afterwards. But we won’t be able to do anything if we don’t take care of Frieza now!” Said Krillin.

Tanya glared at Vegeta, who had a smug smile on his face. “Alright then. Let him wish for immortality. It’ll be your funeral when he’s done with Frieza.” Said Tanya.

“Thank you Tanya. Alright then Dende, make the wish for Vegeta to be immortal.” Said Krillin.

Dende looked afraid as Vegeta lost his patience. “C’mon, what’s the hold-up you little green-bean?” Shouted Vegeta.

“I…I can’t…” Stammered Dende.

“What are you saying? Alright, c’mere you little twerp! You need some encouragement!”

Vegeta stormed over to Dende and picked him up by the scruff of his shirt. “Make the wish now!” Yelled Vegeta.

“Let go!” Yelled Dende.

“Vegeta, put him down! He’s the only one who can make the wishes so it won’t do you any good to blast him!” Yelled Tanya.

“Maybe he would rather we were destroyed by Frieza! Is that what you want? More of your friends killed by that maniac?” Yelled Vegeta.

“Dende, we don’t have a choice. Please just make the wish. It’s our only chance!” Yelled Krillin.

“But what if Tanya’s right? What if he just replaces Frieza, and I’m the one that made it possible! I couldn’t live with that!” Cried Dende.

“Dende, we don’t have time for what if’s and maybe’s, we have this one shot and it’s the only one we can take! Make the wish for Vegeta!”

Dende hesitated but then nodded. “Put me down. I’ll make your wish.” Said Dende.

Vegeta threw Dende on to the ground. “Good decision kid. I like your style.” Said Vegeta.

Dende got up nervously and began to dust himself off. “Hurry up! Do it boy make the wish!” Yelled Vegeta.

Dende raised his hands to the dragon and began speaking in Namek. “At last, it’s finally happening. Finally, I’ll be the most powerful being in the universe, and the name King Vegeta of the Saiyans will once again spread fear through out the galaxy!” He thought with triumph.

“This is it. When he becomes immortal, the universe will never be free again. He’s said as much, he intends to replace Frieza as emperor. Shows how little I really knew him.” Tanya thought in defeat.

But then, as Dende was about to finish the wish, Porunga began flashing. “What? What’s happening?” Asked Bulma.

Porunga then lost all his detail and light began to burst from him. Then the dragonballs raised up as Porunga disappeared. Then in a huge explosion that sent them all flying back, Porunga’s energy was released and the dragonballs fell to the ground…as stone. Tanya, Bulma, Krillin and Gohan were stunned. Vegeta was just confused. “Hey! What’s the deal? I don’t feel any different, what’s going on? Am I immortal or not?” He shouted.

“No, you’re not immortal.” Whispered Dende, as he fell to his knees.

They all turned to Dende’s voice, not liking the idea of what he was going to tell them. “Dende…what happened?” Asked Tanya.

“Guru…is gone.”

“No…Guru.” Cried Gohan.

“It can’t be. He can’t be gone.” Said Tanya.

“It hurts Dende, I know it does.” Said Krillin.

“He promised me. Guru, I asked you not to die while I was gone.” Whispered Dende.

“What!? Are you telling me that if this old Namek dies, the dragonballs are useless?!” Shouted Vegeta.

Dende turned to Vegeta, tears pouring down his face. “Tell me you little brat!” He yelled, raising his hand to strike Dende.

Tanya got in front of Vegeta and grabbed his wrist to stop him. “Haven’t you caught on yet Vegeta? The dragonballs were apart of Guru! When he dies, they die with him. So don’t you dare hit this child just because he didn’t make the wish fast enough, how was he supposed to know it was Guru was going to pass away now?!” She yelled.

Vegeta had a look of pure rage on his face, but Tanya didn’t let him go. “If you want someone to blame, blame me. I’m the one who delayed in making the wish! But don’t you dare hit Dende!” Cried Tanya.

That was when Vegeta lost it. He grabbed Tanya by the throat and threw her over towards Gohan and Krillin. “Well then, where was I?” Vegeta growled as Gohan and Krillin ran to her.

“Oh yes, I was about to kill you all for betraying me!”

He stalked towards them, and Tanya shot to her feet. “If you think I’m going down that easy, you better think again. I still owe you for your stunt earlier, you know, after I killed Zarbon.” Hissed Tanya, raising her fists to fight.

“Bring it on Tanya.” Said Vegeta, flying at her.

Tanya flew at him, and the others covered their heads, knowing the impact would hurt everyone. But it never came. When Krillin, Gohan, Bulma and Dende opened their eyes, they saw both Vegeta and Tanya were inches away from each other, looking above them, fear clearly written on their faces. The 4 of them slowly turned to look…and their faces turned blue. On the rock face…was Frieza.

~~~Elsewhere on Namek.~~~

Jeice was flying around, looking for a way to escape Namek. The guilt he felt was overwhelming, but his cowardice got the better of him. He wasn’t strong enough to face his former master, and that thought terrified him. He knew that Frieza would kill them all, and he would torture Vegeta and Tanya slowly and endlessly, because they were his best soldiers next to the Ginyu Force.

“But what can I do? That 8 year old kid Gohan has more power in his little finger than I do in my whole body. I’d just get in their way, Tanya would sooner die than let anything happen to her loved ones. She would spend all her time watching my back instead of her own. I guess that’s what makes her different from me. I left her to die with all of them, and she would never do that to me.” Thought Jeice.

Then, a shiver went down his spine and Jeice spun around. He saw a huge purple fire emanating from the ship. But Jeice knew better. That wasn’t any fire…that was Frieza’s powerful aura. “He’s found them.” Jeice gasped.

~~~Somewhere else on Namek.~~~

His white cape flowed in the wind as he surveyed what was left of his home. It looked so beautiful, but he knew that he should be seeing his brethren working the fields below him. But the planet was deathly silent. “Don’t worry everyone, I’ll make this right. Now Gohan, where are you?” He said.

He felt around for the familiar energy of his student and friend. But as he found it, he felt a huge power level. “NO! Frieza is there! Hang on Gohan! I’m coming!”

He burst into the air. “Look out universe! Piccolo’s back!”

~~~Back on the battlefield.~~~

“So you’re the ones, huh, naughty.” He said.

The fighters were in shock, too stunned to move. Bulma quickly crawled over to Krillin and Gohan and hid behind them. “There don’t seem to be any power readings for the Ginyu Force. So it’s true.” Started Frieza.

“He must not have sensed Jeice yet. There’s no way he could get off the planet yet.” Thought Tanya.

“Somehow you weaklings have managed to defeat the most elite fighting team in the universe. What a farce, I only wish I could’ve been there to see captain Ginyu’s face.”

“He won’t have to look far.” Whispered Krillin.

“What do you say we get this thing started. I know how anxious you all are to resolve this dispute once and for all.”

Krillin and Gohan suddenly turned serious. Bulma was behind them and there was no way she’d be able to get away from Frieza’s first attack. Tanya and Vegeta had noticed too. Vegeta wished he hadn’t bee so angry and dragged Bulma there with him, if he‘d been thinking rationally, he would‘ve left her at the ship with Kakarot.

He could no longer deny that there was something there between them. And if he wanted to live long enough to find out what it was, he had to protect Bulma at all costs. Tanya sensed his anxiety and turned to him. Their bond of friendship had grown strong enough for telepathy and it was the only way to talk to him right now. “Vegeta, we have to get Bulma and Dende away from here. If Frieza attacks, they’ll be hurt or worse.” She sent to him telepathically.

“I know, but the damn lizard is beyond pissed right now. And he’s still trying to drag this out, even his landing is supposed to intimidate us.” Vegeta sent back.

“I always knew you would turn on me someday Vegeta, and you as well Tanya, but I never knew when. Now I see the 2 of you were just waiting for the stakes to get high enough before you both played your hands.” Started Frieza.

Krillin was close to the pant wetting stage again, as Gohan edged Bulma and Dende backwards towards Vegeta and Tanya. Bulma quickly got behind them and Dende held on to Gohan. “I commend you, after all it just might’ve worked. What a pity. Well, I hope that you’ve thoroughly enjoyed your little rebellion, because now it’s over my clever little warriors! Now you all die!” He snarled at them.

Vegeta began to slowly raise his power, while Tanya reached behind her and pulled a dagger out from her shirt, keeping it hidden behind her back. “I should’ve done this a long time ago! You ruined everything you little freak shows! How dare you meddle in my affairs, I could’ve been immortal! I HATE YOU!!!”

Krillin and Gohan flew to one side, and Bulma and Dende ran after them. “Glad they solved our problem.” Thought Tanya.

“You hate us, like we care! We quit! We’re free now! All those years we kissed up to you, I could puke!” Said Vegeta, smiling through his words.

“We’ve waited a long time to say this to you Freiza, and now it’s finally here. We’re free of you and your tyranny! And after today, you will never hurt anyone again! One way or another, you will die for what you did to us you sick son of a bitch!” Cried Tanya, grabbing her other dagger from her boot and getting into fighting stance.

“That’s right you 2, let it all out. Live boldly, even if it is for a few minutes.” Said Frieza.

But his sick smile quickly disappeared. “Well, enough talk! On to the main event!” He yelled, powering up so fast, that it almost knocked them back.

Vegeta and Tanya stayed standing. After all these years, it was time. On this day, they would defeat Frieza together…or die trying.
