Chapter 6

Never cross a woman!

The next morning, Goten woke up a little earlier than he wanted to. For one night I don't have to listen to kaasans yelling and I can't even sleep in. I guess she yells me to sleep too! He thought, stretching. Trunks and Goten had decided to rotate who would sleep in the other bedroom. That night, Trunks let Goten have the room and tonight, Trunks would take it. After a quick shower, he followed his stomach and headed strait for the kitchen. He found Shay up and about, preparing to cook yet another Sayian sized meal. The meal she had cooked the night before had been pretty good and he found himself looking forward to whatever she happened to cook that morning. He watched for a few minutes from the safety of the short stairway as she made her way through the kitchen as if she had lived in this house for years. Everything that they needed had been stocked up before the trip, thanks to Bulma. Thinking that he had watched her enough, he made his presence known, or rather his stomach did.

"Ohayou, Goten-kun." Shay greeted him warmly. Just as he opened his mouth to return her greeting, his stomach did it for him. He placed his hand behind his head and laughed.

"Hungry?" She said, laughing with him.

"Ohayou. A little. Need any help?" He asked.

"Well, you can hand me the eggs out of the fridge." He did as he was told; picking up three cartons of eggs and carefully handed them to her. "Three cartons, Goten?" She said, still smiling.

"Yeah. I think I'll eat a light breakfast today." At that, they both laughed again. The morning sun was shining through the window in front of the sink where Shay was standing. The warm sunlight shining on her face made Goten notice something that he hadn't before about her. She is beautiful. Just at that moment, Shay had looked at Goten and smiled, her emerald green eyes contrasting with her dark brown hair. Why didn't I notice that before? He thought. I was so caught up in my drama with Lily that I didn't notice what was in front of me. Goten had broken up with his girlfriend Lily two weeks before they left to find the Dragonballs. He thought that they were officially a couple until he found out that she was going out with other men. For some reason she had given him hell about going on this trip. It didn't matter to him at that point anyway. She had played him, and that was reason enough for him to leave well enough alone.

"Do you like cheese in your eggs?" Shay's soft voice brought him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah, why not." He went back to watching her move around the kitchen, letting his eyes travel lower than they did the first time. He estimated that she was about 5' 5", about 135 lbs. He certainly noticed that she had curves to her body, something Lily lacked. Lily wasn't flat; she just wasn't as voluptuous as Shay. And on top of everything, she could cook. His thoughts were interrupted again, this time by the shower running.

"That must mean the Chibi Saiyan no Ouji is up." Shay said.

"Why don't we all go to Satan City today? It might be good for us being new friends and all. Plus Trunks seems to be feeling better, just like I thought."

"Sounds like a plan. We might even find a Dragonball on the way." A couple hours, and a few dozen plates of food, the trio headed to Satan City for a little shopping.

Satan City was in a lunch rush by the time the gang arrived there, creating a sort of traffic jam. After a traffic standstill and near accident, Goten finally broke down and went to park in an indoor garage. At least then they could move faster walking than if they were still stuck in traffic. Goten pulled into the first garage he saw.

"25 zeni an hour!?" He yelled. "That's crazy! I'm not paying that!" He threw the car in reverse and started to back the car out of the garage.

"Come on, Goten! It could be hours before we find another garage! Just park here." Shay piped in. Goten, being as stubborn as his mother, resumed backing out.

"Alright, I'll pay for it." Trunks said. "If I don't get out of this car soon, my legs are gonna start cramping up."

With the car stored in the high-priced garage, the trio headed off to do a little shopping. Little did Goten and Shay know that their ex's had the same idea in mind.

Two and a half hours later, the gang went to grab some lunch.

"Remind me to never go shopping with a woman again." Goten whispered to Trunks. Shay, who was walking a few steps ahead of them, whipped her head around and gave Goten her version of the Vegeta scowl.

"I heard that, Mr. I'm-Scared-of-Victoria's-Secret!"

"I was not scared to go in! I was just tired at that moment." He lied. He really didn't go in because he would have gotten another nosebleed. (Goten has a very vivid imagination!) Trunks slowly shook his head, grateful that he chose to stay out of the argument.

"Surely you aren't afraid of a tho…"

Goten cut her off. "Don't say it."

"Don't say what? Thong?" She laughed.

"I told you not to say that!"

"There's nothing wrong with it. It's only underwear!"

Shay's ears picked up a familiar sound, making her stop in her tracks. Kami, I hope that isn't who I think it is! She quickly looked around to see where the unmistakable laugh was coming from. At the same time, Goten's enhanced hearing told him that today wasn't a good day to come to Satan City. There's no mistaking that laugh. Goten thought. That's Lily, alright. That laugh would make a drunken cat cover its ears! He too looked around and found the owner of the offending laugh walking hand in hand with another man, looking quite comfortable.

He just couldn't wait to jump to another woman! Shay fumed. I should have left him a long time ago! And whoever he's with sounds like a drunken cat!

"Hey, let's go in here!" Goten said quickly, pointing to the nearest store.

"Sure! I always wanted to go here!" Shay replied, wanting to get out of her current situation.

Trunks, which at this point was getting dragged into the store by both Goten and Shay, looked up at the sign. "Am I the only one who noticed that this is Eddie's Pawn Shop?"

"Uhh, y-yeah! Yeah, I always wanted to go to a pawn shop!" Shay said.

"Yeah, me too! I could find a… a radio, yeah!" Goten agreed.

"You know, you can never have too many radios." Shay said, opening the door.

Trunks looked at Shay, then at Goten. He said, pointing at them, "Whatever you two been smoking must be some good stuff! Ya'll ain't even try to share, I'm supposed to be your boy…"

The shady looking store owner looked warily at the group as they came almost running into the shop. Both Shay and Goten stayed by the window and watched their ex's walk by.

"That was close!" Goten sighed.

"Yeah, tell me about it!" Shay said.

"Nani?"

"Huh? Oh, nothing!" She said, walking away. As soon as she turned around, she saw the shop owner setting an item out on display.

"Let's go, guys. We still have to get food." Goten said.

"Yeah. I'm starving!" Trunks said.

"Shay?" They both looked at Shay. She was staring wide-eyed at something on the shelf.

"Excuse me, how much is that?" She asked.

"Oh, this old thing?" The owner said, taking down the item. He opened the clear case and pulled out a shining Dragonball. By this time, all three were staring wide-eyed at the coveted orange orb. It had been cleaned, its single star staring back at the group. "This thing's been in here for a while." They all knew that was a lie. The Dragonballs had just recently re-activated. Even if he did have it, it would have looked like a rock, unless he was into that kind of thing.

"How much do you want for it?" Trunks asked.

"Well, now that you mention it, I'm not too sure I wants to sell it." He said, placing it back in the clear box. "I've never seen anything like it! It may be pretty valuable someday."

"Sir, I don't care how much it costs, but I really need that ball!" Trunks said, starting to get irritated.

"This could take a while…" Goten said, walking over to a pinball machine in the corner of the shop.

45 minutes and 18 games later…

"1000 zeni." The owner said.

"800." Trunks answered.

"1000."

"Alright, 900. That's my final offer."

Goten looked over at Shay. She was sitting in a chair located a few feet from the pinball machine. A minute later, he felt something strange.

"No can do. 1000."

Is her ki rising!? Goten thought. He looked back at Shay who was still seated with her eyes closed, arms folded, and one leg crossed over the other. Her foot was shaking lightly, a clear sign that she was getting angry. Sure enough, her ki was slowly rising.

"Alright, alright! I'll pay the 1000 zeni!"

The shop owner looked around. "You know what, I've changed my mind. No sale!" He put the clear box back on the shelf.

Shay's eyes snapped open. She slowly stood up and walked over to the owner. Giving him her sweetest smile, she started her plea. "Sir, my friends and I would really like to have that orange ball there. You see, we're collectors and it would really, really make me happy if we could add that to our collection! We'll pay whatever you want for it!" She said.

"Sorry hot-pants, but I think I'm gonna keep that there ball. It must be worth something if you'ze wants it so much. But what would you do for it?" He said, giving Shay a lust filled look. That did it for Shay. She reached over the counter and grabbed the owner's greasy shirt.

"LOOK, YOU SICK PERVERT! I WANT THAT BALL AND IF YOU DON'T HAND IT OVER RIGHT NOW, I SWEAR I WILL CLAW OUT YOUR EYES AND TAKE A VICE GRIP TO YOUR BALLS!"

Both Trunks and Goten reached down and covered their own `packages', moaning at the thought of Shay's threat.

"I'VE BEEN SITTING THERE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR! I WANT THAT BALL!" With the last sentence, she grabbed the back of his neck and banged his head on the glass counter between words.

"Whoa, Shay!" Goten wrapped his arms around Shay and pulled her away for the now injured man.

"H-h-here! T-take the damned thing! I didn't want it no way!" He said, quickly placing the box on the counter. Shay snatched the box from the counter and stomped out of the shop.

Trunks put the 1000 zeni on the counter. "Pleasure doing business!" He and Goten left the shop after Shay, leaving the owner to wonder what the hell had just happened.

He shook his head. "I gotta quit smoking!" He said, walking to the back of the store.

Later that night, Shay sat in the couch watching TV. It was almost midnight, the dishes were washed and put away, she had already showered and changed into her night shirt, but she still wasn't sleepy. She flipped through the channels for what seemed like the hundredth time.

"200 channels and nothing's on." She mumbled. She finally settled on cartoons.

Goten walked down the stairs to the living room. It was his turn to sleep on the futon. He had just got out of the shower himself and was walking around in only his boxers.

"You're sitting on my bed." He said, smiling down at Shay.

She looked up at him, returning the smile. "You'll be okay."

He sat down next to her. "You can't sleep either, huh?" He said. She shook her head. "I'm thirsty. You want anything?"

"Umm, some juice, please." He got up and went to the kitchen. Shay tried, but couldn't help looking at him. When he turned around and walked back, she noticed that his boxers were low enough to show the tops of his hips, stopping at what Shay imagined to be his hairline. (Not that hairline, the other one! Ladies, ya'll know what I'm talking about!) She also noticed his rippled abs, well-defined chest, and powerful arms. One of them was handing her a glass of juice.

"Oh," Shay snapped back to reality. "Thank you." Goten sat on the couch again and finished his 32 ounce drink in two swallows. He looked at her, wondering what could be bothering her. He could tell that she wasn't really watching the TV. One of her legs was propped up on the chair, her head was resting on her hand, and her arm was being held up by the raised leg. Because of the way she was sitting, her night shirt revealed her thighs. Goten found himself wanting to touch them, but instead he rested his head in her lap. Shay looked down at him, then back to the TV, and draped her arm across his chest.

"What's on your mind?" He asked.

She let out a sigh. "I saw someone I did not want to see today." She said. "We just broke up a few days ago and already he's with another girl."

"Did he cheat on you or something?"

She looked down at him. "I don't have exact proof, but I wouldn't doubt it. He has before. I know we aren't together anymore, but those two looked like they had been together for months. I'm starting to wonder if they were." She said.

"So you still have feelings for him, huh?" He said, feeling a little disappointed. He was hoping that she was over her ex. He couldn't explain why. After all, he told her that he wanted to go out with Trunks' sister, Bra.

"It depends on what feelings you're talking about. Do I care for him? Yes, I still do. Do I love him? Umm… The jury's still out on that one."

"Do you still want to be with him?" Goten asked.

When she answered, she looked him strait in the eyes. "No."

Whoever this guy is, he's a fool for letting her go. Goten thought.

Shay and Goten watched the show a little longer before he started again. "How do you know he's with another girl?"

"I saw him today walking with her. They were talking and holding hands… Something he never did with me. To be honest, that was the reason why I even went in that pawn shop today."

"Wait a minute, what did this girl look like?" He asked.

"Umm… She was maybe a little taller than me, dark blue hair, skinny… Why?"

"Does your ex have black hair, tall, and have on a brown shirt today?"

"Yeah, how did you know?" She asked. She looked up when reality hit her. "Wait, don't tell me. My ex was with your girlfriend."

"Yep. Well, actually she's not my girlfriend. I don't think we really were together in the first place."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because she would go out with other guys when we were supposedly dating. Some of my friends and even some of her friends tried to tell me, but I wouldn't listen. When I confronted her about it, she said that she didn't know that we were together. We stopped speaking since over two weeks ago."

"So do you still have feelings for her?" It was Shay's turn to ask. She was hoping that he didn't.

"I thought I cared about her. Do I love her? No. I'm man enough to admit that. I think it's obvious that I don't want to be with her." Goten was surprised when Shay started laughing. "What's so funny?" He asked.

"I just think it's funny that my ex ended up with yours! I guess it's a small world!"

Now that she mentions it, I guess it is kinda funny! He laughed with her, looking into her green eyes. He didn't see it this morning, but now he saw that her eyes were light brown around the pupil and green on the outside. They were beautiful.

They sat and half watched the mindless cartoon for a while longer before Goten started to yawn. He sat up and stood. "Well, since you won't move," he said, pulling the futon to lie flat into a bed, making her fall backward. "You'll just have to stay here." He turned her around so that she was laying the right way on the futon. He laid down next to her, pulling her to him and laying his head on her chest. "Good night, Shay."

"Good night." With that, he picked up the remote and turned off the TV.
