Chapter 5

Gina Devero looked across the table at Bra who was eating like there was no tomorrow. Her face fixated. Her spoon wavered in her delicate hand. Mark grinned happily with out looking up. He did have to. He could hear what was happening. Besides he had seen this before. Bra was at least putting the food entirely in her mouth chewing a swallowing. Unlike Vegeta, Trunks, and Pan. Mark felt his shoulders start to shake with mirth. Don't laugh, Mark. What ever you don't actually laugh out loud.

"That was great can I have some more!" Bra held her bowl up as she smiled happily.

Gina's jaw dropped "Where does it all go?"

"Excuse me?" Bra looked over at Gina in confusion. The other woman just shook her head.

"It's alright, Bra." Mark stood up and walks the serving bowl over to Bra. Looking at his mother her added "Bra's family has very fast metabolisms. The eat for energy in away."

Bra kicked back and thought, "You know Goku could always eat more then Daddy. That might explain it."

Mark pulled back the chair next to Bra and sat down near her at the huge formal table. "I never got to actually meet, Goku other then the day Pan had her baby."

Bra turned to Mark and kissed his forehead. "That as a bad day. I was never so scared. I thought she was going to die, on us."

Gina dropped her spoon at this and the clang was loud. Mark ignored her. He really didn't care what she was thinking, "You never showed it. You were the only one who thought she was going to be all right. You held up al together."

Bra beamed at him "Are you singing my praises?"

"Why not? You deserve to be praised." Mark touched her cheek gentle "All that, and she's cute too."

Bra reached up to place her hand on his. "I knew there was a reason I loved you." She watched the shock in his eyes.

Mark felt the breath being sucked from his body. Bra had just told him that she loved him. Mark Devero. He was speechless. His mother was forgotten. He could only react. Mark leaned in and kissed Bra his heart swelling with more emotion then he had ever felt.

Gina cleared her throat. No response from the two enraptured lovebirds. She placed her hand over her mouth and coughed. Nothing. "Mark, dear." She waited a moment. The frown she tossed them reached her eyes. Such a public display was not commonplace in her day. She couldn't believe that this was happening. What had he learned at those schools anyway? "MARK!"

Bra and Mark shot apart. Bra blushed and looked a the table and Mark gave Gina his expressionless look again "Yea mom?"

Gina shook her head at him.

Mark blink as he raged in his mind "Yes, Mother." Leaning back in his chair he slouched his shoulders. He delighted inwardly. She would be upset over his posture now. Don't laugh Mark. He told himself again. "Maybe you could tell me why you are here, mother? I mean it's been years."

Gina met his face head on. This was not the way she wanted to tell him. She had wanted time to prepare him correctly. To butter him up, so to speak. She looked down. There was no time. HE had given her an opening and she had to take it. "I am dying, Mark." He looked up at him.

Bra gasped. "Gina, are you serious?" she looked from Mark to Gina.

"I am very serious. The doctor's give me under three months." Gina looked into cold green eyes that matched her own. She knew those eyes. She had looked at them all her life. They were exactly, like her own.

"That is a shame. What do you want?" Mark ground out. He was pulling no punches. Gina definitely wanted something badly if as he was here in her last days.

"Mark!" Bra shouted at him in shock. "She is dying, for crying out loud. Cut her some slack."

He remained impassive and Gina was getting desperate "It is my liver. It's failing. There is one chance for me. I need a partial transplant. It is experimental and extremely tricky."

Mark turned green "You are not asking…"

"No." Gina looked away. "I am begging you to help me. My life is in your hands."

Mark jumped up "Find some one else to save your miserable life!"

Bra could feel him shaking and she was not even touching him. The lights in the room flickered a bit.

Gina missed the tiny details as she pressed in "I can't. You are the only one. Our family as extremely rare blood type and genetically I cannot use a stranger's. You are the only match. The doctors have already reviewed your charts and,,,"

Colors burst through the room "You stole my medical records!!?? YOU BITCH!"

Bra jumped up. "Mark. Calm down."

Gina looked around "Oh not your stupid little color show again, Mark. I thought you had stopped doing that when you were eight." She looked at Bra "I am sorry about this dear. My husbands family had this aura about them that showed up every once and again. But they all learned to control it. Unlike Mark, obviously."

Bra snapped her gaze to Gina. "He can't control it because he is so powerful in his abilities and never trained." He ki flared and soon the blue waves engulfed her "Ion the other hand have trained and can summon my powers at will."

Bras powers crashed against Marks and dissolved. Mark felt his strength leaving him as he negated Bra's ki slowly. Soon he found himself returning to normal. A bit drained but still better then the uncontrollable moments before. Bra dropped her defensives and put her arm around Mark

"Are you all right?" She pressed her face to his heart-thundering chest.

Gina looked at the two creatures before her. "You know what he was doing?" She asked, "We never understood it."

Bar glared at the other woman. Dying or not what had happened to Mark was just cruel. She could imagine any of the Saiyans growing up in a family that did not tolerate or respect their abilities. That child would have died, but Mark he had survived by his sheer will. "Yes, your son has an innate ability to counter hostile ki. Powers like that can come in extraordinarily handy at times.

Mark just looked at his mother. For the first time his hate glowing in his eyes "Are you telling me my father could do this as well?"

Gina tilted her head "Yes, but he never showed it. I saw it only once, and that was so I understood and knew."

"What about me? Didn't you think I might need to know? That I was not just some freak!" mark turned and walked out of the room. "Get the hell out of my house Gina."

"But Mark, what about the operation." Gina cried.

"I'd sooner dance on your grave."
