Chapter 32
Melody stared into her coffee. How odd that she was now thrust into this group of strangers, one actually being her own brother. She looked up to study him for the millionth time. He did not seem to notice or care. She was guessing those years under such scrutiny from the press; he was use to being stared at. If it were not like looking into her own eyes, she would doubt that this was her brother. He was much larger then she was and their features were much different. Melody pondered on the fact that she was so much like her mother in looks. She looked up at Mark Devero, yet again, and wondered just how much he looked like Thomas Devero, his father? Gina had never talked much about Anthony. Melody had thought the reason was because the memory of losing the love of her life was just too difficult for her mother to bear. Now with a brother before her that her mother had done everything possible to hide from her, she questioned her mother motives.
Mark was aware of Melody's eyes as they passed over him again and again. He was just a curious about her. Still there was something more important to him then a long lost sister. Bra sat next to him smiling with delight. It seemed when ever she was near there was nothing else he could concentrate on. He looked over at Trunks. The other man was tapping his finger on the table. Mark gave Trunks a look of questioning.
Trunks looked at his watch. “We have to be going soon. The private plan that Melody arranged for us should be at the air strip soon.”
“You know Trunks you seem a bit anxious to me.” Mark leaned back and let his arm drop around Bra's shoulders. She settled against him and looked over at Trunks nodding her agreement.”
Trunks had decided it was best not to tell Mark about the television broad cast last thing he needed to do was drop a bomb like that one mark and Bra's reunion. With a smooth cover of a confidence Trunks stated, “I just can't wait to get back and see Pan. She is probably dying to know what is going on over here. If we don't get back to Japan soon she might send my father to fetch us.”
Mark laughed, “I see your point. That is one man I am glad I never had the privilege of being on his bad side.”
Melody snorted and rolled her eyes “I have seen enough of your father's bad side for this life time.” She tilted her head toward Trunks. “Like when he confronted my mother about Mark.”
Mark looked over at Melody in shock. The looked to Trunks “He did?”
Trunks nodded “He was not happy at all by your untimely passing. He will very happy to see you again.” Trunks grinned “I wonder if anyone has gotten he chance to tell him that you are alive?”
Bra giggled, “I hope not! Just once in my life I would like to see him surprised by something.”
Melody finished her coffee and looked over her cup. “I would say seeing a dead man might just do the trick.”
Trunks burst out laughing. “GOKU!”
Bra clamped her hand over her mouth to try and stifle her laughter “Goku nothing, don't forget dad has been resurrected on occasion as well!”
Melody looked at the Briefs in shock and then to Mark. Mark shook his head “Don't ask, because I don't even want to know.”
Several hours later the group pulled into a small deserted airstrip. Mark looked over at Trunks as they climbed from the car. “Trunks, why are we at this airfield? We could have just gone to the airport and gotten the Global Jet to fly us back to Japan.” Bra nodded her agreement looking at the small charter that now sat alone on the dirt run way.
“The truth is, Mark is a wanted man. Your mother is trying to make you out to be some sicko that has kidnapped Melody and Bra. The authorities are ready to toss you right back in to the institution.”
Melody looked at Marks stunned expression. “I think I will see how my father is fair in the plane.”
“Why didn't you tell this tome before Trunks?” Mark stepped toward Trunks with menace. “Is that why you are running me off to Japan?” Bra set her hand on marks chest to stop him. She looked up at him with nervous tension building in her.
“Yes, That is exactly why. You are bonded to my sister, Devero. That makes you family. I will do any it takes to keep you safe.” Trunks glared back at his sister's mate. “I know you would not want to go if I told you.”
“And you were damn right!” Mark kept his tone in check. “But I am not about to run. I have done nothing wrong.”
Trunks sighed and swept a hand through his lavender hair. “Listen, the authorities are not going to stop and ask questions until you are safely locked away. The truth is Melody and Bra did not have the legal right to release you from Fellowes. That is your mother's right, and from what I have seen she is ready to do everything in her power to keep you there.”
Bra put her hands on Marks arms. “He is right, honey. Let's just go home and straighten this out from there. It is safer. If we stay here we run the risk of being separated again.”
Mark was about to speak when melody yelled from the plane. She waved as she shouted “Alright every one head for Japan on board now. My father says we don't have much time. The authorities know where we are!”
Mark scowled and his words were for gotten as he grabbed Bra's arm and ran for the plane.
Aiko leaned on the wall as Bulma tossed outfit after outfit at Pan. She glance around at the sales women who where pointed and whisper about her. She actually liked all the attention being showered on her. She giggled a bit at her mother's discomfort, although her grandmother seemed to be right at home sorting through the clothing and accessories.
“I think she will look adorable in green and we just have to have this blue shirt.” Bulma turned and held the shirt up looking at Aiko and then back. “Ohh I just knew it. It matches her eyes perfectly. She is going to be such a little doll.”
Aiko flinched. The car was already stuffed with toys, several of which were dolls. Akio didn't overly like the prissy little things. They didn't do anything she found interesting. The idea of blasting the little things into oblivion was tempting. The thought of how her mother and grandmother would torment her grandfather over it was not.
Aiko had done her best to keep her disappointment hidden when it became apparent that Vegeta was not coming along on this little excursion. Looking over at the Pan, she asked “When will my father be home?'
Bulma froze in place and looked at Pan. Pan turned around setting the pile of clothing in the arms of a clerk. “He should be home any time now. He is off helping you Aunt Bra right now.”
Aiko crossed her arms and scowled “I hope he hurries up. I want to get back to my training.”
