Chapter 40

Aiko glared at Bra from under the fluffy white halo that covered her dark purple hair. The tiny blue eyes were chilling. "I blame you for this!" It was obvious little Aiko was unimpressed by either her role in the wedding or the beautiful Aunt that turned so elegantly toward her.

"Have you seen my father?" Bra looked down at her niece. She could not suppress the delight from her eyes, as she looked Aiko over. "It is almost time to go."

Pan went to her daughter and placed a hand on the child's shoulder. "Could you go find your grandfather for us honey? We need him in here right away."

Aiko's face went from sulky to irritated with the toss of her head. "If I do it, can I get out of this useless concoction?" Aiko tugged at the skirts as she tried to move her feet.

"No." Marron piped up as she pulled on her white glove. The lovely blonde woman turned her gaze to settle on the child. "But it will help you get out of it sooner."

Aiko closed her eyes and when the piercing blues opened, Aiko's eyes nailed Marron. "Maybe it is time that I tell Uncle Goten you like him!" Aiko's face remained calm but ever one could feel the rising of her ki. "That would teach you to start messing with me."

Marron blushed and stammered, "Where did you hear THAT!" She looked around the room quickly taking in the panicked expressions.

Pan grabbed Aiko and clamped a hand over her mouth. Aiko hardly struggled against the hold. Letting her eyes speak volumes for her. "Silly kid, she is always trying it get a rise out of every one! She was merely guessing Marron." Pan pulled Aiko to the door. "Come ON, Aiko, let's go get your grandfather." She looked at Aiko's expression "NOW!"

Trunks leaned back against the wall and watched Devero straightening Goten's bow tie. "Now that is the saddest thing I have ever seen. Goten you really can not do anything can you."

"I get along quite nicely with out the suits, Trunks" Goten looked over at the mirror. "Wow Devero, you sure tied that fast."

"Yea well, I think we are running a bit late." Mark frowned at the clock.

Goten lead the way to the door. "Trunks I thought we were here to make sure he did not jump out the window and try to escape?"

Mark startled at that and looked back at Trunks. "What?"

Trunks gave an innocent look and tossed his hands up. "Hey, this is Bra you are marrying. If I were not her brother I would tell you to run."

Mark felt his jaw drop. "Listen BROTHER, why would any man run from my angel?"

"You wait until you get that first credit card statement, and tell me about it." Trunk slid his hands in his pockets and gave an evil grin.

"Quality does not come cheap." Mark smiled and fired back. "Besides, I am a billionaire, Briefs. I can afford it."

Trunks nodded. "Point taken. Ok I did not want to remind you of this, but there is my father to deal with." Mark swallowed hard and tried to look confident. Trunks leaned in smirking. "You wont be able to keep him drunk forever."

Mark turned and opened the door. "I will see what Bra thinks about living in America."

Then behind them they heard Goten. "How do you turn this thing off?"

Mark and Trunks looked over to see Goten holding a camcorder pointed at then, the red light glowing with an evilly.

On screen was seen two very nervous men trying to wrestle the camera away and Goten's shouts for help echoed in and out of the scuffling noise.

Vegeta carried Aiko up against his chest as he stalked down the hallway. "Everyone is ready, that daughter of mine had better not be late for this."

Aiko looked over at Vegeta and sighed "Why are we even here? You said bonding was all that mattered, and Mark and Aunt Bra are already bonded."

"Mark is a human, like your grandmother. He feels that an earth ceremony will help him out in some way." Vegeta snorted.

"It's STUPID!" Aiko grumbled.

'"Yes it is, but no one around here ever listens to me." Vegeta opened the door and scanned the room. Melody and Marron were leaning over adjusting Bra's veil and adding more pins.

Pan came up behind Vegeta and watched as Aiko was set slowly to the floor.

"Daddy." Bra stood up slowly. The white satin enshrouding her as she opened her arms, "What do you think?"

Vegeta struggled to keep his face impassive. This vision before him could not be his daughter! She was tall and trim. The glow around her was like the white radiating light of a goddess. The shining blue eyes twinkled and tears filled her eyes. "Daddy, you will have to breath, if you are going to tell me any time soon."

Vegeta frowned and realized he was holding his breath. Aiko tugged on his leg and as he looked down at the little grandchild who saw the stunned expression. "Vegeta?"

'It's ok child." Vegeta set his hand on her head and looked over at Bra. "I just realized that my baby daughter is gone. She has grown up on me."

"What is taking so long!? I'm hungry!" Goku leaned over to Krillin. He tugged at his tie and wondered if Chichi had been trying to choke him to death, and if he were human would he have survived the fierce tugging?

Krillin shook his head and looked up at the group of men at the alter waiting. Motioning to Mark he said "For some one about to gain Vegeta for a father-in-law he looks pretty calm."

"I guess." Goku nodded.

Gohan leaned forward from behind them and muttered "Pan has Vegeta for a Father-in-law and it is not that bad."

Videl pulled Gohan back and rested her head on his shoulder. "Aside from the fact he took Aiko to time chamber, you mean?"

"Yea, I guess there was that." Gohan frowned and rubbed the back of his head.

Mark straightened up nervously and Trunks chuckled evilly as the music started. "It's not to late Devero you can still run."

Mark shook his head "I doubt I would get very far."

"I can stop Dad from dragging you back." Trunks added.

Mark glanced over at the other man and sighed, "That might be true, but what are you going to do about my heart?

Goten nudged Trunks. "Give it up, buddy. He's doomed."

Melody appeared, beginning her walk down the isle, followed by Marron and then Pan. With each new appearance, the sound of Bulma's crying got a little louder.

Adoring awes flooded the room as Aiko appeared. At the sound she trembled so hard it wracked her entire form visibly and Trunks suppressed a chuckle. "Remind me to blame this on Pan." He muttered to Goten.

Aiko took a step and tossed the petal on the ground. A slight trace of amusement passed over her as she tossed and then crushed the red and white mixture under her feet. The light silvery pieces of glitter flowing slowly in the air fell over her shirts and swirled around the child making her look like a magical pixie in their midst.

Mark was focused on the tiny girl walking toward him. She was a child he had been willing to raise as his own, and now she was becoming be niece. It was odd the changes life handed you. Trunks bumped him with his elbow and Mark realized the room had gone silent. The green gaze rose and he saw Vegeta standing at the other end of the isle. Within a moment, the Saiyan Prince was dismissed and Mark focused on the vision that moved slowly toward him. Mark felt his stomach clinch and the breath became trapped in his chest.

Some where in the crowd Goku's voice sliced the silence "Is that Bra?" SMACK! "Owww I was just asking Chichi."

As Vegeta and Bra reached the alter the minister looked over at Vegeta and asked, "Who gives this woman."

Vegeta stopped and lifted his eyes to pin on the confused man. "She is an adult, I can't get her do anything, let alone give her to anyone." Shaking his head he walked over and sat next to Bulma, who stared at him with wide eyes and muttered, "I told you this whole thing is stupid."

Mark gave the minister a weak smile and bra slowly shook her veiled head and a loud sigh escaped her.

Mark leaned over and lifted Bra's veil, smiling down at her. "It's ok, love."

Bra felt the tears rising up as she looked up at him. Mark seemed more amused than anything else.

"Shall we?" Mark held his hand out to her. This was it. The moment she had wanted and waited for. Taking his hand, they walked up the steps and stood before the alter. They prepared to declare their love for a lifetime.

"I would like to welcome you all to the wedding of these two young people, Mark Devero and Bra Briefs." The minister looked out at the room. "If anyone here has any objections to this couple's marriage, let them speak now or forever hold their peace!"

Vegeta stood up and screamed, "I OBJECT!" The room rumbled with murmurs and Bra dropped head on Mark's chest. Mark tried valiantly to keep his shoulder from shaking with mirth. "They are already bonded and this ceremony is little to no good. I find it perfectly useless and a complete waste of. AHHHHHH"

"Would you SHUT UP?" Bulma dug her claws into his leg.

Vegeta tried to shake free. "WELL HE ASKED!" and pointed to the stunned minister.

Bulma glared up at him and said slowly "Gravity room, Vegeta. Gravity room."

Vegeta paled and looked around "Carry on." And then sat back down.

"Yes, ummm, well ." the minister looked over at Mark. "Do you, Mark Devero, take Bra Briefs as you wife?

Mark nodded "I do."

"I believe you have written your own vows?" The man looked over at Mark.

"Yes I have." Mark looked over at a stunned Bra. "Bra, I promise, with Dende's help to be a faithful husband, to love, to cherish, as my heart commands, in sickness and health, for better or worse, as long as we both exist, even death will not part my heart from it's love for you. This I promise you." He turned and took the ring Trunks held out to him. "Bra, I give you this ring before all present here, as a sign of my promise and never ending love."

Bra lifted her hand and let Mark slip the band on her finger. It was shining with a golden light, and a diamond had been cut and set to look like an unending band around her finger. She was shaking from the impact of those words. Mark had written his vows with great thought and care, a love that refused to be denied by time and death.

The minister looked over at Bra. "Bra, you may say your vows at this time."

She nodded and looked up at Mark. "Mark, I too promise with Dende's help to be a good wife to you, to love, to cherish, as my heart commands, in sickness, and health, for better or worse, as long as we both exist, even death will not part my heart from it's love for you. This I promise you." She repeated the powerful words he had given her. Taking the ring she had for Mark she slid it on to his finger, her eyes melting into his. "Mark, I give you this ring before all present here, as a symbol of my promise and never ending love."

The minister smiled at the two. "For as much as Mark and Bra have consented together in the scared bonds of wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and man. And they two have pledged their faith to each other and have declared the same by the joining of hands and the giving an receiving of rings and each other, I pronounce them husband and wife." Looking over at Mark he chuckled "Mr. Devero you may kiss your bride."

Mark felt Bra toss herself into his arms. Embracing his wife, he pulled her to him and let his lips touch hers lightly before the pressure deepened. Sweeping her back, they were encouraged by the cheering of the family and friends. As the parted and their eyes met for the first time as husband and wife, the words flowed through the room "MAY I PRESENT TO YOU! MR and MRS. Mark Devero!"
