Chapter 39
Bra paced the hallway. She looked over at the phone. It was not ringing. In fact it had not rang in FOUR DAYS. She had thought Mark would be calling her at least. With a fierce growl she punched the wall. Damn the man to hell for this.
"Honey I'm home!" Bra twirled around at the sound of his voice. Rushing into the hall she came to a stand still.
There he stood. Mark Devero holding in his hands the larges bouquet of ruby red roses she had ever seen. Dotted among them the occasional blue one. He smiled at her his eyes bright. With a tremble to his voice he repeated. "I am home."
Bra rushed through the room tossing her self at him. Mark found his face plastered in butterfly kisses. Laughing he whispered "I take t you missed me?" She did not answer her head buried into his shoulder with a slight nod. Mark pulled back a bit. "Bra? Are you crying?" The soft nod came again. "Awwwww, I am sorry?" He held her tight. "But everything has been take care of."
Bra pulled back. "What do you mean?" she wiped the crystal like tears from her shining blue eyes and looked up at him.
"It took a little longer then I suspect because." Mark swallowed and she could tell he was suppressing his pain. "My mother is dead. She was buried yesterday."
"MARK!" Bra stepped back. Shock etched on her features "What did you do?"
Mark sighed. "It is a long story. My mother killed herself." Mark tried to hand Bra the flowers. Bra pushed them away "WHAT?"
Mark looked at the flowers them to Bra trying again "She was upset because she shot Melody." Bra batted them away again. "SHE WHAT!"
Mark had the urge to turn and run. Tossing the flowers to the table "Let me start by saying. Melody is going to be fine. I would never have left her until I was absolutely sure of that." Bra took his arm and led him over to the couch. Sitting down Mark ran a hand through his hair. "The last few days have been crazy. Where to start?"
Bra settled back on the pillows "At the beginning is good."
Mark looked over at her and started. "I went o see my mother. I wanted to try and reach a settlement with her. Make a deal that was to both of our liking. That way maybe she would back off and leave me in peace, but she as not going to have any of that. It seems all she ever wanted was me, dead. My father cheated on her and it was too much for her ego. Melody father, Jonathan Sanders, consoled her. He was furious at the way my father was carrying on with his lover. I found out that Jon was the one to kill my father, he sabotaged the plane."
Bra gasped. "Sweet DENDE!"
Mark put his hand up to stop her. "He stalled my mother and tried to save me. In the end it was Melody, the one person my mother loved, that saved me. She pulled me out of the way and took the bullet for me."
Bra's hand went to her mouth.
"Mom could not take what she had done and shot herself. I do not remember much after that. I think I finally did have a break down of sorts." Mark frowned looking down ashamed.
"No wonder! You found out you father, Thomas Devero, was cheating on your mother, Gina Devero. Then your sister's father, Jonathan Sanders, killed him. Your mother was trying to kill you. Then watched your mother, Gina, shoot Melody and then herself!" Bra touched Marks cheek. "You poor thing."
"The poor Mark part is yet to come, Bra." Mark took her hand and kissed it. "They believed I was the one responsible for the shootings. Luckily, I was already declared insane, so if they had pressed it I would have had a way out."
"That is NOT FUNNY!" Bra glared.
"It was all straightened out by some good detective work and the testimony of Mr. Sanders." Mark shrugged. "Jon also confessed to killing my father. It seems it has been eating at his conscience for years."
"What about Melody?" Bra stood up pacing.
"I went the hospital immediately, but she was in critical conditioned. They would not let me see her." Mark leaned back looking at the ceiling. "They thought she was going to die. Since she had lost so much blood." He lifted his head to smile at Bra. "See where this is leading?"
Bra nodded slowly.
Mark laughed. "I simply ate a senzu, hoping on the off chance, the healing capabilities would be pas on through my blood."
"I will have to remember that." Bra stared in awe at her mate as he relaxed on the couch. "After that she had a remarkable recovery." Mark closed his eyes, a peaceful smile play8ing on his lip.
Bra stopped turning to Mark. "That does not explain why YOU NEVER CALL ME!" Mark winched and pretended to have fallen asleep.
A Few Days Later:
"I am not wearing that!" Vegeta and Aiko screamed in unison. Vegeta turned from Bulma and the tux she was holding out at him, to see Aiko running through the hall.
Aiko was swept up in her father's arms "Come on, baby. You will be so cute in that dress!" Aiko looked back the hall and fear and revulsion covered her little face as she saw her mother standing there holding what looked like a huge, white, fluffed, puff ball of a dress.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" She cried out as Trunks carried her back.
Trunks hugged her close cuddling her struggling form. "You are going to be the sweetest little flower girl EVER!"
Vegeta looked at the dress Pan waved at him as she disappeared behind Trunks around the corner. Then he looked at Bulma glaring at him. Taking the tux, he muttered, "Suddenly, this does not look so bad." As he walked into the bedroom he complained "Why does Bra have to have this stupid earth ritual any way? It is a waste. She is already bonded to the damned boy. Not like he is going anywhere with out extreme pain and then an assured death at my hands."
Bulma frowned. "I think you are forgetting where we are. I always wanted one of the STUPID RITUALS, but my mate was never willing to comply." Bulma turned pulling her hair up on her head and pinning the blue tresses. "Just think if I had refused to be bonded to you. Where would you be then?"
Vegeta come out of the bathroom in the tux fumbling with the bow tie. An evil smirk plastered to his features.
Bulma turned to help tie the bow. Noticing his expression she narrowed her eyes "What are you thinking?" She tried to search his mind and found her self blocked. "Vegeta.."
Vegeta blinked and gave the most innocent look he could muster "Nothing."
Down the hall Melody and Marron helped Bra into her dress. The tiny pearl buttons trailed down her back. Bra waited for Marron to button her up while Melody stepped back and lifted the veil getting it ready.
"This is so exciting!" Bra bit her lip holding back tears of joy. "I can not believe I am getting married!"
Melody smiled and lifted the headpiece that hard crowned Bra, the slivery leaf and pearl accents trailing around her face. Giving Bra the look of a goddess. She stood up up straight and her to bride maids surveyed their handy work.
Marron blink and Melody shook her head. Bra felt the uneasiness rise up in her. Did she look stupid? Did the dress make her look bad? She had been rushed for this wedding, it was true, but it could not be that bad! She turned at the sound of the door opening and Pan, the matron of honor stepped in wearing her dark blue and white dress. Pan looked lovely. She turn with a smile to bra and then her face fell. Bra wanted to cry. Pan's shocked expression was all Bra needed to see. With panic in her heart she swung around to face the mirror image.
It was Bra turn to stand in awe. A life of pampered beauty techniques did not prepare her self for the vision before her. It was like facing the glowing white light of a goddess. She stared at the other woman, who looked back at her with shock. Bra blink and realization that she was staring at herself was sinking in. The frown that had been on her face vanished as Pan came up to hug her sister-in-law's shoulders. "I look like a princess!"
Pan looked into they eyes of Bra's reflection. "Of course, since that is what you are."
