Last Song

Bells.  One of the frills Vegeta could have done without.  Humans and their whimsical ways…

No.  He pressed his hands to his temples and stopped that line of thought.  He wasn't supposed to think like that anymore.  Vegeta ran his bared hands down from his forehead across his eyes and cheeks, wiping his mind clean.

Slight relief ran through his body, he could feel his face again.  The senzu bean was working enough to give him his bearing back.

"Damn that Kakkarot..."  Vegeta growled into the mirror, half of his conscious was aimed at checking his hair, making sure his long locks were in place, the other half fighting off his short term memory.

"Kakkarot."  It was early morning, the day of the wedding.  I only have one more thing I need to take care of.  I need a finale."  Vegeta had stayed up all night, thinking over his life, thinking over his life on Earth.  He believed he could do it, be a man who could love a woman but there was one thing stopping him.

"I want to fight you Kakkarot.  One last time.  I need an ending."

Goku's eyes fell to his crossed arms for a moment as he considered, then he accepted.

Vegeta tightened his oddly bright red tie.  He and Bulma both agreed that he had looked too stupid in a bow-tie to be presentable and chose a black tuxedo that looked acceptable with a tie.  He studied himself in the mirror again, he still looked stupid.

No.  Vegeta struck his own forehead with his palm.  No more thinking like that.  "No more."  He reminded himself verbally.  He ran his eyes over the dresser looking for the cufflinks that had been picked out for him.

Goku raised his head.  "I have a condition.  No Super Saiyan."

"Afraid of my full power Kakkarot?"  Vegeta's features form the smirk he had grown so accustomed to, as he enjoyed the thought of a fearful Kakkarot.

"If you don't know the answer to that."  Goku smiled softly, the smile Vegeta had come to hate.  Against his will, Vegeta's smirk twisted into a frown.  "Then there's no reason to fight."

Odd words.  As usual.  Was he really some country bumpkin?  Vegeta couldn't convince himself either way.  Sometimes Kakkarot acted no more intelligent than a child, but others…

Again, thoughts he shouldn't be thinking.  It was a wedding, his wedding.

That walking stomach was the last thing he should be thinking about.

Vegeta straightened his back and took a deep breath, attempting to relax himself.  His heart rate began slowing from earlier and just now reached a normal pace.  He carefully inspected himself in the mirror, running his hands over his tuxedo, smoothing out any wrinkles that came from his worrying.

"Is that all you have Kakkarot!?"  Vegeta slammed both legs into Goku's chest, sending him deeper into the ground.  The earth around them impacted making a shallow crater around them.

"Still have more and more."  Goku wrapped his hands around the Prince's ankles and threw him off into the sky.  He took this moment to shoot up after him and smash his palm into Vegeta's jaw.  The force of the blow was transferred straight into his brain.

That had shocked him still for a moment.  While Goku planned his next move Vegeta struck at any part of Goku he could reach.  Goku caught Vegeta's fist in his hand and squeezed hard.

"I will defeat you Kakkarot!!  I will be the strongest Saiyan!!!"  His smirk returned as he pushed Goku's hand back and cocked his free fist.

Anger entered Goku's eyes for the first time.  "Are you still concerned with something so pathetic Vegeta!?"

The signal came for him to start moving.  Music began and the guest started to become formal.  A moment ago Vegeta could over hear chatter and discussions but once the first piano key sang there was a hush.  His signal to move and take his place.

Clearing his mind he made his way up the aisle to his spot.  As he watched those watching him there was so little he understood about this ceremony.

Was there anything similar to this on Planet Vegeta?  Who was to say, it had been so long…

"Are you going to risk your new life."  Goku grabbed Vegeta by both wrists.

The half-breed pulled the prince close and glared through the blood in his eyes.  "Bulma and Trunks, their lives for your PRIDE!?"  Before Vegeta could break away Goku's head slammed into his.  The force behind it caught Vegeta off guard and sent him onto his back.  The same impact pushed Goku back once Vegeta's wrists were free.

"You have the power to end lives or to protect those you love.  Hundreds of thousands and just a few."  Goku spoke while on his back. Goku wiggled his muscles before moving to stand back up.  "With so much power, why do you think about something so small?"

Vegeta got onto his feet at the same time his opponent did.  Theo two glared at each other.  Muscles were becoming sore and visions blurred but their battle song was not over yet.

Vegeta began to understand Goku's condition.

The piano's song changed.  A tune familiar to those on Earth but a song he had heard only a few times.  All about the morning disappeared in the white layers of Bulma's dress.  She marched down the aisle with all eyes on her.

Everything in his life became insignificant before her.  Was this what Goku meant?  Was his own life to this point worth anything?

The ceremony continued, Vegeta recited the lines he had practiced the entire week.  Words he had rarely used, that he had rarely even thought came forth freely into the open.  Words such as "love" and "eternity."  Was the warmth in his cheeks the same warmth he saw in Bulma's flushed face?  Somewhere Goku was laughing, he knew it.

The ceremony continued.  His mind wandered little, it was too busy being drawn to Bulma.  Perhaps, this was the world as Goku saw it.  The world Goku grew up in.

"We're going to be late for your wedding."  Goku spoke from his back.  The two of them lay near unconscious after their bout.  Goku's finger snapped something towards where Vegeta lay.  A senzu.

"Alright."  Vegeta chewed on the distasteful bean before forcing himself on his feet.  "Let's go…  Goku."

Bulma reached towards him with her gloved hand, pressing it into his larger one.  "Come my Prince.  Our carriage awaits."  She tugged him lightly towards the limousine waiting for them.

"No."  Vegeta, smiled genuinely and shook his head.  He gave her hand a gentle squeeze before following her lead.  "I'm just Vegeta, a human."
