AN: Well, as any one who reads my stories knows; I am always in the market for an unusual pairing. So here may just be my Waterloo depending on how you look at it. This is in response to the Gohan/Launch challenge. Oh and just so you know, I never really watched Dragonball so I’m not sure if both Launches loved Tien or just the blonde haired one so don’t get angry if I get it wrong.

Launch’s Pain

Gohan sighed happily as he flew across the afternoon sky. A cool breeze whipped strands of the Eighteen year olds long mane of spiky black hair across his face as he watched the bright sky begin to bleed a deep crimson.

For once everything seemed to be going great for Gohan. His father had come back from the afterlife and was now pleading with his wife to let him touch her; Chichi was still angry with him for remaining dead for no real reason as she put it for seven years and was now punishing him by refusing to have sex. The Earth had now been safe for just over a year so there weren’t any evil space tyrants or destructive monsters for the teen to worry about. And to put the cheery on the cake, as of 24 hours ago Gohan Son was engaged.

Yes. Gohan Son, the person who as a boy travelled space, saved the galaxy and had an IQ of a genus, was going to get married to Videl Satan, his girlfriend of two years, daughter of the man who stole his earth savour glory and not to mention she was the love of his life. And so here the teen was, only a year away from getting married and currently on the way to have a congratulatory spa with his Dad’s friend; Tien.

Dropping his speed and lowering his body from the reddening sky so that he was now gliding on the strong evening breeze, his gaze travailing over the dark blue surface of the ocean beneath him; searching for Tien and Launch’s island. When the couple had decided to start living together as a couple, Launch had become so accustomed to island life that she had insisted on living on an island of their own.

Spotting the small island beneath him, Gohan stopped flying and let his body drop to the ground. Landing silently on his feet, the hybrid quickly looked around the island for any sign of Tien or Launch. The place was practically an exact replica of Kami Island; even the two floor house was similar except that it wasn’t pink. ‘I guess Tien must be inside’ Gohan thought to himself as a quick look around the island revealed no sign of the three eyed man. Enjoying the feel of the hot sand on his bare feet and the cool sea air blowing through his main of long, black, spiky hair, Gohan slowly walked across the island to his friend’s house.

Walking up to the door, his powerful knuckles rapped against the hard wood before he waited for an answer from within. After a minute without reply, the hybrid knocked again but with still no reply he started to get worried. He had spoken to Tien less than an hour ago and he had assured the teen that he and launch would be home, so why wouldn’t they be; it didn’t make any sense unless something had happened…

Quickly grasping the door handle, Gohan tried it and to his surprise found that the door wasn’t locked as it hung partially open. Poking his head through the gap between frame and door, Gohan quickly looked around the main room of the house; making sure that no one was home before he opened the door all the way and walked in.

If the teen didn’t know better, he would have sworn he had just walked into the Kami house on Master Roshi’s Island; there was just that much similarity between the between the two. The bottom floor of the house was made up of two rooms, one was a large kitchen/living/dinning room that took up most of floor by its self and the other was a small side room which had been converted to a bathroom while the second floor was made up of just one bedroom. Walking into the house and across the cool wood of the floor, Gohan looked around for his friend one last time but with still no sign of the triclopes or Launch; he decided to just wait for his friend.

However, barly three minutes had passed before something had caught the hybrids attention. It was a noise, a nose that was so faint that if he hadn’t had an enhanced hearing from his sayain genes he would have never noticed. Looking round the room but not find any sort of source for the sound, Gohan cautiously stood up from the sofa and made his way across the room to the bottom of the stairs; glancing round the room one last time before following his ears up the steps.

Walking up the last of the steps, Gohan quickly understood where the source of the sound was comeing from as he noticed that the door of the bedroom was open a crack. Before he could open the door, Gohan quickly decided against it given the fact that the room was a bed room and he didn’t know where Launch or Tien were. Closing his eyes, the hybrid stretched out his mind and scanned for any Ki in the room but becoming very surprised when he could only pick up one. Getting worried, he slowly pushed the door open a bit more and he peered into the room before his eyes suddenly bulged at the sight in front of him.

The room was hardly lit by the warm, red glow of the afternoon sun that should have shone in through the bed room window if the curtains had not been pulled across; the soft light however barly deceived his sharp, dark eyes as he could easily make out the outline of the pieces of furniture littered across the room, and the soft perfume of exotic flowers that filtered around him through the crack between the door and filled his nostrils, making his mind real with less than innocent images and memories of his fiancé.

He could also see Launch; or at least someone who bared a very faint resemblance to the blue haired beauty as she looked as though she had aged almost a hundred some years. Even though she was looking away from him, Gohan could easily see that her skin had turned deathly pale and clammy, the skin around her eyes now carried large black rings beneath them as though she had been punched in the face, and even her eyes themselves that had once resembled a bright blue sky on a sunny summer day had become a deep red. Her hands were placed upon her face, trying to rub away the tears that continued to flow freely from her eyes as she sat on the king size bed she and tien shared.

Gohan was speechless, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, this was Launch: the innocently minded, kind woman his dad had now since childhood; what could of happened to her to get her in such a state?

Pulling away from the crack and closing the door silently, Gohan quietly backed away from the door; almost tripping over his own feet in his rush. He was at a loss for what he should do next, while he knew he should do something to help the distressed woman; barging into her bedroom just wouldn’t do. Getting an idea, Gohan raised his hand and softly rapped his knuckles against the hard wood of the door. He heard a small gasp from inside before the sound of sheets rustling and light footsteps before the door opened to reveal Launch standing in the door frame.

“Oh…um hi Gohan, I forgot you were coming over… Tien is not here right now… Why don’t I go make tea while you wait… he shouldn’t be to long…” She managed to muter, looking away from the hybrid as she wiped her eyes while fighting back a fresh wave of tears before hurrying past him and down the stairs. Gohan could only watch the bluenet beauty as she almost ran down the steps and out of his view, not making any attempt to hide the worry that flooded the dark depths of his eyes; he didn’t know what had happened to her to make the normally cheery turn into what had stood before him moments ago but he was determined to do what ever it took to find out and make her happy.

By the time he had walked down the steps and into the living room, Launch was placing a tray of tea on the small coffee table that stood infront of the sofa, her hands were shaking slightly as she placed his cup on a mat and that destroyed the image of normality she had created in the moments they had been apart; she must have quickly washed as her skin was no longer clammy and had regained some of it’s former creamy colour. Deciding to play it cool or at least for the moment, Gohan moved back and sat down at the end of the sofa he vacated mere minutes before while Launch took her own cup and moved to sit at the other end.

Minutes pass in an uncomfortable silence as the two just sat there, Launch deliberately avoiding the hybrids gaze and looking across the living area and out one of the room’s windows; taking small sips of her beverage as she tried to keep herself under control.

“So, how have you been Launch?” Gohan asked, deciding it was time to bite the bullet.

Still not looking round at the man opposite her, Launch replied in a somewhat shaky voice “Oh…I’ve…I’ve been okay Gohan, why’d you ask?”

“I was just curious because we didn’t see you at the celebration yesterday.”

“Oh…I didn’t now there was one Gohan” Launch replied quickly, obviously caught off guard by the sayains statement.

“Yhea, I just got engaged yesterday and Bulma decided to…”However the hybrid never got a chance to finish his explanation as he noticed that the beauty’s hands began shaking uncontrollably before the sound of braking china filled the room and in the blink of an eye; Launch was upon him.

Gohan could only sit there, stunned and unsure of what to do next as Launch began to break down and cry into his shoulder. Gohan had never been sure how to handle women or as Videl liked to put it ‘He was totally clueless’. Deciding to try what he did to comfort his mum when she had been in a fit about Goku’s death, he put his arms around her and gathered her against his chest in a comforting jester as he began to slowly stroke her blue locks; just hoping he was doing the right thing.

As Launch felt his movement, she suddenly hugged herself tightly to him, savoring the feeling of being so close to someone; something which puzzled the hybrid even further as his dad’s childhood wrapped her arms tight around him, and buried her face in the fabric of his gi top. Her face crumpled in the soft cloth as she began to sob, making Gohan blank out for a moment as he continued to run his fingers through her hair. It was soft and silky and he couldn’t help but repeat the motion, stroking her soothingly as he enjoyed the sensation. However she continued to cry against his chest, wetting the dark blue gi with her tears.

After several minutes her sobs began to quiet down, she pulled back slightly, avoiding eye contact as she said “I’m sorry Gohan, I’m not normally like this.” Whipping away what remained of her tears while repositioning her self so that she was no longer sitting in his lap.

"What happened, Launch?" Gohan asked as he watched the blue haired beauty. “I know something must have happened to you to get you in such a state.”

“It’s nothing Gohan, I’ve just been a little down recently.”

"Launch..." He reached out and maneuvered her face so that he could look down into her watery blue eyes. "I want to help you Launch But I need you to talk to me.”

Staring back into his dark eyes, Launch could only see the sincerity that filled their dark depths and urging her to trust him. Taking a breath, she opened her mouth and began to speak in a voice Gohan had to strain even his sensitive ears to hear as another wave of tears hit her. "It’s… It’s Tien.”

"Tien? But… but what happened?" Gohan asked, surprise and alarm increasing as hw wondered what the triclopes could have to get the woman in such a state.

"For a long time now, I and Tien have been having some problems in our relationship, it started out as just a simple argument but then it began to build up to the point where he wouldn’t even look at me. And then, yesterday I… I found out that… that he was cheating on me whit random prostitutes!!!” She wailed before burring her head in his shoulder as her body shock with the fresh onslaught of sobs.

Anger increased within the hybrid as he listened to Launch, he wanted to tear tien into tiny pieces for doing this to her. "I’m sorry Launch, I wish their was something I could do to help you but don't worry about him. If he chooses to cheat on you for some whores then that's his problem. Why he would want to leave a beautiful woman such as yourself..." Gohan began, but was interrupted as Launch lifted her head from his shoulder to look at him.

"What did you say, Gohan?" she asked, brushing the tears from her eyes and revealing something new in their blue depths. (AN: I don’t know if she has blue eyes or not but I thought It would be appropriate as nearly every other woman in Dragonball z has Blue eyes.)

Gohan was slightly taken aback by the by the gaze, clearly not expecting it as he repeated "Why would he want to leave a beautiful woman such as yourself..." Before stopping as he noticed that she was now mere centimeters from his face; he could feel her breath on his neck, her darkening blue eyes staring into his, his heart racing as he felt beads of sweat form on his forehead.

"You think I'm beautiful?" she asked, although there were still some remnants of tears under her eyes, a smile spread across her face as she lent up; shortening the distance between them and lightly licking her lips quickly. She could smell the salty, masculine scent of his body as it was so close to hers.

"Yes Launch," Gohan said, his heart beating so fast that he could of danced to the beat. "I do think you're bea…l." but before he could finish; she leaned forward and kissed him.
