Chapter 2 - Watch Out Boys! Debra Enters the Budokai!
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<& gt;*<>*<>*<>*<
Goku and Kuririn happily put on the new uniforms Kamesennin* had just given them. Both boys were very excited about the tournament. They'd just finished changing when Kamesennin was approached by another old man with bright eyes.
"Mutenroshi-sama!"
Kamesennin turned round at the sound of his voice, "Douglas? I don't believe it!"
"Its been too long sir," Doug replied. He paused to look at Goku and Kuririn, "I see you finally took on some new students."
"Heh, heh. Yep, this is Son Goku and Kuririn. Boys, this is Doug, an old student of mine."
"Hajimemashite, Doug-san!" the boys chorused, bowing politely.
"Did you say Son Goku, Son Gohan's grandson!?"
"The very same."
Doug leaned down to Goku, "Did you know I trained with your Ojiisan?"
"Hai, Jiichan told me stories about you."
"He did, eh? Well, I hope they were good ones," he said chuckling.
"Shouldn't we be headed towards the arena?" asked a lovely female voice. Kamesennin openly ogled the newcomer, she had shoulder-length auburn hair, a petite figure and was clad in a pastel green gi with a pink belt and shirt.
"Whoa, who's the babe?!"
Doug grinned, "Mutenroshi-sama, this is my 21 year-old magomusume, Debra."
'This sukebe is Ojiisan's master?' she thought incredulously.
"Your granddaughter!"
"Hai, she's competing today as well."
"Hontou?" asked Goku, "Is she really strong?"
"Sou."
"Oi! What kind of question is that! Of course I'm strong, if I wasn't I wouldn't be here!" Both boys cringed in response. Debra blushed, she hadn't meant to snap so fiercely at them. "Gomen. It's kind of a reflex response. A lot of fighters don't take me seriously, just because I'm a woman."
Goku was genuinely confused, " I don't understand. What's being a girl got ta do with how ya fight?"
Kuririn nudged his friend, "There aren't many girls that know how to fight, Goku. Not because they can't, but because they don't want to."
"Oh."
"Quite a temper on her." Kamesennin whispered to Doug as the three young senshi had their conversation.
"She gets it from her mother," he replied just as quietly. "Oi, you three should hurry and get inside. Ganbatteyo!"
"Hai!" they chorused and ran inside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once inside the three young senshi began to have their doubts about winning.
"Sugei! Look at all the fighters!" Goku looked around in amazement.
"There're so many of them!" cried Debra.
"And they're all bigger than us," lamented Kuririn.
At 5' 4" Debra towered over the boys, but almost every other fighter there was at least a head taller than she was. They listened to the welcoming speech but were stunned when they heard the number of fighters.
"138 people!" Kuririn shouted.
After drawing their numbers the three looked to see which blocks they were in. Goku and Kuririn were both in block three but were in separate sections and Debra was in block one. Goku was up first and easily defeated his first opponent. Both he and Kuririn were amazed at how much stronger they had gotten. Debra, on the other hand, wasn't too surprised, 'After all they were trained by Mutenroshi-sama, and he trained Ojiisan.' Her match was next, but when she got into the ring there was a wave of insults towards the "girl who thought she was a fighter".
"This is a budokai not a fashion show!"
Debra ignored them all.
"Ganbare, Debra-san!" shouted Goku and Kuririn.
"Ooh a girl, I'm sooo scared," her opponent taunted as she bowed.
"Che," she stood and crouched into a fighting stance, "You should be."
"Hajime!" yelled the ref.
Debra dashed forward and delivered one well-placed punch to the man's chest sending him flying across the arena. "Guess I hit him a little hard." Meanwhile the other fighters were stunned, except for Goku and Kuririn.
"Yatta, Debra! Yatta!" the boys yelled.
She sighed, "He wasn't much of a fighter, I hope the rest of my opponents aren't so disappointing."
"Ou! Kuririn ja na ka?"
Goku and Debra turned to see who had called out, two men dressed in the same clothing style that Kuririn usually wore were heading their way.
"So Kuririn, you went away and got some new training, huh?" one said patting Kuririn on the head.
"We're competing too, we'll be waiting for you in the ring," the other tossed back as they walked away.
"Who were those guys?" Debra asked Kuririn, casting an annoyed glance back at the two strangers.
He sighed despondently, "Just some guys from my village. They picked on me `cause I'm so short."
"Well I wouldn't let them get to you, they're nothing much," Debra told him.
"But . . ."
"No 'buts' Kuririn-kun, you can defeat them! Right, Goku-kun?"
"Ya Kuririn, Debra-san's right, you're gonna win!"
"You think so?"
"We know so!" they both yelled at him.
When Kuririn stepped into the ring the first opponent he was up against one of the bullies who had harassed him just moments ago. Kuririn easily defeated him with one kick, accidentally knocking him through the wall of the building. "Sugei," he breathed in surprise while everyone except Debra and Goku stared at him in shock.
The rest of the trio's matches went just as easily for them. It was while Goku and Debra watched Kuririn's last match when a young man approached them.
"Goku."
"Eh?" Goku turned round to face a young man standing behind them.
"I should have expected to see you here."
". . . . e? Dare?"
The young man dropped into a fighting stance, "Rouga Fuu Fuu Ken!!"
"Aa!! Yamcha!!!" Goku exclaimed happily.
"Finally, you understand!"
"Uwaa!! Sugei!! It's been a long time. What happened to your hair?"
"Bulma made me cut it."
"Say, Goku-kun. Who's your friend?"
At the sound of Debra's voice, Yamcha looked up and promptly froze.
Goku grinned hugely, "This is Yamcha."
"Hajimemashite," she greeted, bowing then extending her hand to him. When he didn't respond, Debra waved a hand in front of his face, "Oi, you in there?" Worried she bent down and whispered to Goku, "Is he all-right?"
"Yah," he replied, "he does this whenever he meets a pretty girl."
"Ohh!" She smiled brightly, "Don't worry Yamcha, I'm already taken." Yamcha blinked twice and visibly relaxed when her words had sunk in. "So are you in the finals too?" Still unable to speak, Yamcha simply nodded in response. "Sugoi!"
Kuririn's shout and a loud thud brought their attention back to the ring. The young warrior stood triumphant as he was declared the winner.
"Yatta Kuririn!" Goku cheered climbing the ring to grab his friend in a bear hug.
"This is going to be even better than I thought," Debra said softly.
"Why's that?" Yamcha asked momentarily forgetting his shyness.
"Because of those two. They both were trained by the same master as my grandfather."
"Kamesennin?"
"Uh-huh."
Yamcha shook his head and the two redirected their attention to the celebrating Goku and Kuririn. "Say Goku, Bulma, Oolong, and Puar are here too."
"Hontou!?"
