CHAPTER 2

Kethry tossed and turned on the little bed, dreams of being caught out in a raging storm plaguing her. She sat up with a start when a crack of thunder ripped close by through the night air. Rubbing her eyes, she shuffled over to the small window. What she saw there made her decide she must still be sound asleep. There was no storm pouring down rain, only Vegeta standing on the shore of the pond, with his right hand thrown forward, first three fingers extended, and his feet wide apart as if he was bracing himself. Kethry vaguely heard him make a guttural sound, which was followed by a bright flash of light stretching from his hand, striking the water in a concussion of sound, like thunder after a very close strike of lightning. The water exploded, sending a towering wave into the night sky. In the light of the half-moon, Kethry could see the water glistening off Vegeta's bare back. Yep, she thought, still dreaming. She returned to the bed and quickly found the black oblivion of sleep.
