Chapter 9

Kethry shook and gasped. A ragged sob tore from her throat. "They're dead! They are all dead!" she cried, putting her face in her hands. "I saw them die!"

Vegeta surged from the chair, knocking it over onto its side. "What do you mean?"

Slowly and with great care, she explained the vivid dream she had. As she spoke, he turned his back on her and stared out the window, hands clenched at his sides. When she finished, he was silent of a long time. His voice was low and harsh.

"The events you saw were real. Those people and their planet are truly gone, destroyed by the creature in the white craft you saw. The Saiyans are all wiped out, except for two." He turned to her and a smirk came to his lips. "Or should I say, three?"

Kethry tried to stand but found her balance badly off, Vegeta caught her before she tumbled to the ground face-first. "It worked?"

He placed a finger under her chin and turned her face from side to side, eyes studying the lines of her features. "That it did." He looked very pleased.

Kethry tried to back out of his grip and stand on her own but couldn't keep her feet. "Why am I so off-balance?" He chuckled.

"Your once human mind is struggling with your new Saiyan senses. Add in the fact that your tail is probably overbalancing you a bit and it is no wonder you are dizzy."

"T-tail?!" Kethry stammered. "But you don't have…" He chuckled again.

"Mine was cut off in a prior battle, but it could be easily re-grown. Kakarott had his removed a long time ago. I guess to fit in better with the Earthlings."

Just then, the shock of the dream finally wore off and Kethry's new senses decided to roar to life, making her head reel. Her sense of smell was the most heightened. She could smell the grass outside, even the scent of water in the pond, but mostly she could smell his excitement. Her ears twitched from all of the sounds coming into them. Vegeta's powerful heartbeat was thunder to her and the breeze outside sounded like a gale. The once-dim light in the cabin was now blinding her eyes. "I think I am going to pass out."

Vegeta put his face inches from hers. "You will not. You are a Saiyan. Accept and master it."

Kethry closed her eyes, all of her shaken by the sensory overload. Vegeta's voice boomed in her ears even though he was barely whispering.

"Open your eyes and look at me." There was an odd pull to his voice. Kethry opened her eyes slowly and found herself locked in his icy gaze. A cold fire roared through her thoughts and new memories began to burn out the old, painful parts of her life. Her past memories were still there, but they became more detached and less hurtful, like a movie she had watched a long time ago.

"What…is…happening?" Her voice was slurred.

"Your life begins today." His voice was slightly monotone and very hypnotic. "Nothing before matters." He cradled her with one arm and pulled her with him towards the bed. His other hand came up to gently stroke her face, his fingers softly tracing, as if checking the lines of her features. "Can you hear me, Kethry?"

Kethry felt numb and disconnected, like she had been drugged. But his voice continued to bore into her mind. Her tongue felt thick. "Um, huh," she nodded vaguely. The trance he had put her under was making her putty in his hands. "Feel funny--why hard think?"

He smirked at her. The deepening blue of his eyes drew her mind farther and farther into them. "Power comes in many forms, my little pet." He continued to touch her face in a possessive manner, like a child hovering over a newly received toy. "You are a gift to me and I will not let you get away. Oh yes, I will have what I want." His voice echoed deeply in her head like a cave. "Our people will live again. Mark it well. This is just the start." Kethry was drawn fully into his eyes and was hopelessly lost. He continued to speak, his words painting colors in her mind. "There is much you must learn. I shall give you your first lesson now." The patterns of his speech merged into the awareness of the person she now was. No longer could she hear the actual words; instead, she floated on a pool of light. For the next few hours, volumes of knowledge were being implanted in her mind. Never before had she learned so much in such a short time. The powerful trance under which he had put her allowed him to skip the lengthy teaching process and directly imprint the information into her brain as if she had always known it. But underneath all of this information, he also placed subconscious marks upon her soul, which would bind her to him. His task completed, he slowly released his mental hold on her. She was the first Saiyan female in almost seventy years and she was his. When he was done, he tenderly laid her back down on the bed.

"Now, you must rest. It will take three or four days for your body to finish the transformation." But Kethry did not hear him for she had already fallen deeply asleep.
