"Gohan... At that club... Videl and her friends got a little out of hand and joined up with some other group of people there... and Videl... well... Erasa didn't tell me all the details. She said that none of them were really all that coherent. But... They found Videl… She is in the hospital. She was raped..."

Silence.

Chapter 5

"Gohan? Honey? Are you still there?"

Gohan just stared up at the ceiling, the receiver dropping from nerveless fingers.

He realized he couldn't breathe.

He lay there for an entire minute, not even blinking.

Suddenly he leapt into action, shredding his sheets for the second time in less than a week. He stood in the center of his room, still in shock and staring down at himself. He was still wearing the boxers he had put on last night and they clung to him uncomfortably.

"It... it couldn't..." The dream came back to him. 'Choose one... Him or her... Let the hunt begin...'

"Oh Kami!!" He fell to his knees and put his throbbing head in his hands.

"Oh please, no..." He could still hear his mother on the phone trying to get him to talk but he couldn't bring himself to reply.

He hadn't... he... he couldn't... could he? Numbness flooded his body and brain. Bits and pieces if the night came back. Hot... He had felt so hot, and still did... and... that dream... He couldn't recall all the details, but still... but he would never... Hearing the rather panicky questions his mother still uttered on the phone Gohan forced his body to respond. Slowly he crept back to where the receiver still lay on the floor and picked it up with numb fingers, holding it his ear.

"I... I'm here mom... sorry..." he managed to say when his mother's enquiries came to a short halt. Relief was immediately evident in Chichi's voice.

"I... it was just such a shock, mom. No, Mom, I had no idea... no, I told you I left early..." He answered his mother's rapid questions with a dull monotone voice then finally took all his courage to ask what he dreaded.

"Is she... hurt badly?"

"I only know what Erasa told me. She has a lot of bad bruises and a concussion from a head injury. Also that bastard apparently broke her wrist and arm when she struggled. And... oh god, Gohan..." Chichi's voice nearly broke at repeating this,

"She... Erasa said that she might have internal bleeding... At least, when she was admitted to the hospital that's what they said… It's been some hours." Her voice trailed off and Gohan squeezed his eyes shut, trying to push down the feeling of dread and guilt. Whoever did it... must have been really strong to do this to Videl of all people... She was a fighter. She could take care of herself. He ignored the voice in his head that argued that she had been drunk before he even left the club and couldn't have really defended herself from anyone. Asking the next question took all his strength to keep his voice from quivering.

"Do... do they know... who did it?" There. For a moment there was silence on the other side of the line.

"No... it was dark and she... she... she was... she said she can't remember anything at all. Oh Gohan... it's so awful... Gohan, I'm so sorry..." The rest of the talk was uneventful, as Gohan was too numb to respond much. He was in shock and he knew it. She did not remember. Was that good or bad? He didn't know... he couldn't know... In all actuality, he should be enraged that someone had done that to his girl-friend. Even though... they had not been that tight for the last month or so... but since she didn't know... he couldn't know... if he was the one...

Gohan shook his head trying to regain enough of his senses to promise his mother that he would take it easy and visit Videl-chan later in the hospital when she woke again. He hung up the phone and, for a whole minute, just stared at the blank white wall. Then he started to shiver and tears sprang to his eyes. Curling up right there on the floor he shook like a leaf and hot moist tears rolled down his face. He sobbed, silent at first, but then a long strained whimper broke the silence and those wracking sobs poured out. He pounded his fists on the floor. The shock was too great for him to cope with.

He had no idea what had happened. All he knew was that he woke from an odd dream with a raging hard on and found that his girlfriend had been raped. But... did it mean what he dreaded so? He didn't know. There was no way to tell...

Proof... he had to find proof... someone... someone had to tell him... Vegeta! Somehow the name sprang to his mind. The prince was the only one who knew about all of this... he had tried to warn him. He had said... that... that his wild side would take over if... if... Wide eyed Gohan jumped up from the floor. He had to go and find Vegeta. He would be able to help him! He had to!

Hastily he flung on some clothes and then shot out of the window without even one look back - a look that would have told him, that, oddly, the window that had been ajar last night, was now fully opened...

Vegeta, already up early as was his habit, had finished his morning warm up and was now gulping down a monumental breakfast as Bunni whisked around the kitchen happily doing whatever mindless things she usually did. The prince paid her no mind as he ate.

He glanced up when he felt a familiar energy land nearby but finished his meal without giving the visitor a second thought. Done, he stood and made his way to the door of the mansion, opening it just as Gohan finally gathered the nerve to knock. Surprised, the demi-saiyan jumped back and Vegeta stepped through the door, eyeing him with a frown. He could see immediately just how upset the young man was and stopped to study him a moment. Gohan's face was flushed and his eyes were red rimmed and tired looking. He looked worse now than he had those days ago when Vegeta fist saw him. He had an almost haunted look about him.

"Vegeta-san... I..." Gohan bit his lower lip and looked down at the ground, not sure just what to say or how to even ask... He fidgeted and stuck his hands in his pockets, not sure just what else to do with them. He was almost in a panic by now. The idea that he really could do something without knowing... without any control... It scared him more than anything else possibly could.

The prince raised his chin and stepped past, motioning for Gohan to follow him as he headed for the gravity room.

Gohan followed gratefully, He didn't know what he expected. He half thought that Vegeta might have changed his mind and would just send him away but he needed... he needed to know if the prince could tell him what happened... if it really did. Gohan knew that there was no reason for Vegeta to know such a thing but he was the only one who he could really ask and he wanted an answer so badly. As he meekly followed his eyes trailed down Vegeta's back and over sculpted muscles that flexed and tensed so... noticeably beneath the plain blue spandex. That awful heat suddenly wrapped around him again and he made a small sound back in his throat as he tried to ignore it. 'Kami, no!' He might have started to panic again but he was worried about what Vegeta would say. He felt he was losing his mind already. He didn't need everyone else knowing too.

But after a while, when they neared the gravity-room, Gohan couldn't hold back anymore. He couldn't stand the silence.

"Vegeta... Something... may have happened... I... I... I don't know... maybe..."

Vegeta turned to him as the gravity room came into sight and raised an eyebrow.

"Really. I can tell just by your scent, boy. You reek of heat. You're probably in pain by now, aren't you?"

Gohan's brow drew low.

"Uh... no... It's hot... It's really hot!!" He said with a slight strain, putting a hand to his forehead as if to ward it off.

"But I'm not in pain..."

Vegeta looked at him oddly and stepped near him and took a deep breath of his scent.

"No? Then you are overdue or else you found some other way to... burn off some energy."

He slightly regretted his words at the look of sheer horror this brought onto Gohan's face. Lamely he forced himself to put a hand on the cub's shoulder and tried to fake an understanding tone. He failed utterly.

"Boy... you look like shit. What the hell has happened?" They had reached the gravity room and Vegeta turned to look at the demi-saiyajin at his side. Gohan was unable to meet his gaze. The young one fidgeted nervously and the haunted look on his face seemed to be edged there permanently.

"Well?" Vegeta raised one eyebrow, his arms folded, and one white-clad foot tapping impatiently on the floor. Finally Gohan managed to look up. Dark eyes full of sorrow, fear and confusion met the ones of the prince.

"I... I am afraid it might have awoken..." Gohan whispered, his voice barely audible even to saiyan senses. Vegeta's eyebrow rose even higher.

"Your saiyan side?" Gohan nodded affirmatively.

"What happened." The prince's voice was calm, almost emotionless, but inside, an odd kind of tension slowly built. Gohan lowered his gaze to the floor again. His voice was flat.

"I... had an odd dream. I felt really strange... and... there was..." he broke off and breathed deeply, "and this morning when I woke up... mom called... and she... she told me..."

His voice broke again, and Vegeta was surprised to actually see a tear slide down Gohan's face. He repressed his first impulse to be disgusted at the blatant show of emotion. First rut was a time of huge hormonal changes and emotional trouble. It was not unusual that young Saiyajin went through severe mood swings.

"Yes?" Vegeta tried to say it as gently as he could as to not upset Gohan further. Normally he would have given a shit. But the cub was too unstable right now to risk anything.

"...and she said... that Videl... that she... she's been hurt and… and... raped…" The last words were spoken quickly and Gohan looked almost relieved when they were out. Vegeta pondered what he had heard.

"And you think that you..."

Gohan interrupted him hurriedly.

"Please... you must tell me... could it have been me...? What can I do? I have to do something. I... I..." His expression was almost feverish. Vegeta tightened the grip on the demi's shoulders, making him cease his panicked blabbering.

"I cannot answer that, Gohan. I'm not a mind reader." Vegeta drew closer and sniffed at him with a frown then huffed and shook his head as if trying to clear his nose of what he smelled.

"All I can tell you is that I can't smell anything but your own scent but that means little with how strong it is right now. I told you that the longer you repress your instincts, the more violent the results will be. In order to... avoid further damage, if there has been any done, you know what to do. My offer is still valid."

Gohan swallowed. A light blush spread over his cheeks at what the words implied. His thoughts were racing.

"And... when I... if we... do that... it will get better?" Vegeta's expression changed. Gohan looked up and was surprised. There was an almost gentle feature on the prince's face. Those eyes... were gazing directly into his soul, he thought.

"It will get better Gohan. This is normal, to a degree. Every Saiyajin goes through this. Your father has and your brother will. So will Trunks. It's inevitable and it's natural. You need to release the energy, Gohan. In order to stay sane. You finally need to realize that what you are afraid of is a part of you. You have to get over this unhealthy phobia. I will help you. If you let me." Gohan blushed even more. For the longest moment both looked into each others eyes. Something inside Gohan simply cracked. He nodded. Then he flung himself forwards and into the prince's arms. The startled Saiyajin held him instinctively, strong arms cradling him close.

"Please... please help me, Vegeta..."

The prince waited until Gohan seemed to get a grip on himself again and then turned him away from the GR and back towards Capsule Corp, toward a large round building off to the side.

"Come." Vegeta kept his arm around Gohan's shoulders as they walked. The younger man didn't think to ask where they were going, he only followed, still leaning gratefully on Vegeta for support. He looked up a few moments later when they stopped in front of a door and Vegeta led the way inside of the building. Gohan found himself surrounded by thick moist air and the smell of damp soil and greenery. All around them was green, lush and fertile, and Gohan blinked in confusion before turning to look at Vegeta questioningly. This was the Capsule Corp Arboretum. The greenhouse was huge and was said to house some of the most exotic and rare plants from all around the world.

"Why are we here?"

Vegeta took another deep breath and eyed Gohan narrowly.

"Because I like it here. Some of the places and plants here seem so familiar at times. It reminds me of my home planet. Plus, it is enclosed and private - the perfect place for a first hunt."

Gohan frowned.

"Hunt?" He remembered the shadow in his dream saying... 'let the hunt begin'

"What do you mean, a hunt?"

Vegeta smirked up at him instead of answering and grabbed Gohan's chin, pulling him downwards so that their faces were only inches apart.

"No ki. That is the rule. You break that rule and I will rectify the mistake." Then Vegeta seized his lips as he did days ago and all of Gohan's questions vanished while a questing tongue stole his breath away.

The demi-saiyajin groaned into the kiss, hesitating a moment until his arms seemed to move of their own volition to pull the prince to himself. Before he could succeed, though, Vegeta broke away and stared up at him with a sultry gaze. He turned Gohan so that the younger man faced the greenery again, giving him a slight push in the direction of the center of the building.

Gohan stumbled forward, his thoughts scattered under the deep blush and heat that suddenly overwhelmed him. Vegeta smirked behind him and caught hold of the tail that still tried to hide itself under Gohan's clothing, stroking down it and chuckling when the younger's legs almost gave way. The prince slid up behind Gohan again, steadying him with strong stroking hands on his waist, whispering over his shoulder.

"Under no terms will you forget that *I* am the hunter here. Now..." A laughing quality could be heard in his voice.

"I am coming for you, you better move your ass unless you *want* me to... play. Your scent alone has already gotten my blood burning." With that last comment, Vegeta pushed him roughly forward and Gohan had to catch himself after being nearly thrown twenty feet into the room.

The arboretum wasn't big enough to really get lost in, but for a building it was still huge. The multitude shades of green and the moist heat plus the many unknown birdcalls helped to make Gohan's mind all dizzy again. Without looking back he ran. He ran into the green foliage because suddenly his heart was pounding in his chest and Vegeta's command rang in his ears. His head was empty, and he did not really see his surroundings. His other senses were alert though, they had been overly alert since all this began, and his nose picked up the mix of strange and new scents around him. It identified plants from birds and somewhere there was a scent that made him shiver with anticipation. It was a scent that called out to him, a scent that... his head turned like that of a frightened deer at the sound of rustling leaves to his side. Words kept tumbling over each other in his head.

'Hunter. I am hunted. Hunting me. Behind me. I can't escape… but do I want to? The heat. He will take the heat away. Why am I running? Kami! I want to... want to... so bad...'

Something made him stop and listen, eyes wide, body tense. Somewhere in his hazed mind Vegeta's words still echoed.

"NO ki!"

Without knowing why, rational thought long lost, acting on pure instinct and using only his strength he jumped up into the trees and ran along the large interwoven branches. After a short while he found a rhythm, his feet making light hollow sounds when they touched dry wood and profound clunking noises when they touched living, green, growing branches. His eyes were almost closed and he ran like he had never run before. Son Gohan did not know it, but in his run, finally his hormones had begun to take over. His body knew what a hunt was and acted without conscious effort, staying in motion, masking his trail. His mind worked precisely despite being clouded by heat and a strange anticipation. The feeling seeped into his mind, making his body tense and he wondered at it. What it meant… Almost... almost he knew it... then the revelation came. His body knew how the hunt would end, too and in that moment something collided with his body, something heavy, that made him loose balance and tumble down from the branch he had been on, rolling with him over the earth that was covered by soft, sweet smelling moss.

The two figures were still for a split second but then Gohan recovered and instinctively twisted in his captor's grip, rolling and wrenching, trying to break free to flee once more. Animalistic snarls and growls filled the air as they wrestled, one figure scrabbling at the ground while the other pressed it down into the soft dirt and moss, determined that it's prey would not escape it.

Gohan locked eyes with Vegeta's shining onyx orbs and suddenly he lurched back toward the prince with a wild growl. Vegeta was surprised for an instant but quickly continued their roll so that he ended up on top once more, braced securely with one hand grasped onto Gohan's throat and the other holding his tail. He smirked triumphantly when the demi tensed and whimpered and stopped struggling. They faced each other like that, each breathing heavily, muscles shaking slightly.

"That's right. *I* am the hunter here, boy, and I've caught you. You are mine." His voice was low and gravelly and something about it made the demi sigh as tension bled from his stiff frame. Vegeta leaned down and caught Gohan's lower lip between his teeth with a dominant growl. Gohan whimpered again when he felt the prince shift against him and couldn't help but arch into the touch. His instincts were screaming now and he was too taken with it all to try to hold them at bay anymore. Vegeta's spicy, sharp scent filled his nose and he gave up the fight completely to the hunter.

Vegeta smirked down at his prey. He wasn't disappointed at the shortness of the hunt. He had planned it that way. The arboretum wasn't exactly big enough for a long hunt and the true ritual fight. He knew that Gohan was dangerously close to the edge... it had taken the young demi almost too long to make up his mind and Vegeta wanted to make Gohan let go of his control as soon as possible to hinder damaging effects of the suppression. The boy needed to be relieved of the tension and heat of his adolescence-rut or there might be irreversible damage done. To be honest, he had been very concerned when Gohan had come to him and told him of his fear.

He had spoken the truth - he couldn't tell what really happened, not now, but Gohan had gotten dangerously pent up, that much was quite clear. That unhealthy "Saiyaman"-figure that Gohan had used to let out his natural aggressions had been suspicious to Vegeta from the very first minute onwards. He had always thought it was a bit strange and then, when Gohan didn't lose interest or let it fade like any other childhood game, he had gained suspicions. It was a way for Gohan to release the side of him that he was afraid of. But the way he had chosen had taken the form of an obsession. Vegeta had been afraid that it might lead to a true schizophrenia if nothing happened to change it. But now Gohan had come to him. Vegeta smiled.

He couldn't have done it against the boy's will. Normally he wouldn't really have tried though he had considered it if Gohan would not see reason - a being as strong as the young demi was too dangerous and too powerful to take the chance that he would go insane. It would have been a catastrophe. But the very thought of forcing Gohan into something he did not want had repulsed Vegeta. He knew first hand how horrible that sort of abuse could be and what damage it could do to the victim's soul and mind. It might have turned out not helping Gohan but causing much more damage. Vegeta was relieved that the demi had chosen the right thing to do.

He showed his sharp canines, looking down at his captive who had stilled under his dominating grip. No, not surprising at all. It had been expected and this was Gohan's first experience anyway - the cub had always been on the gentle side, like his father. Vegeta breathed in deeply the arousing scent the younger one gave off. Aaaah... the scent of first heat! How alluring, how intoxicating... how familiar. Vegeta fondly remembered how Goku had smelled when he hit first heat not too long ago. He would have his fun tonight, and so would Gohan, he was determined on that.

All the while Vegeta did not notice the dangerous glint in the demi's half-lidded eyes. Gohan was still trying to sort out the struggling feelings inside, but in the meantime something had taken over, something that had long been repressed. The Gohan of the past was merely sitting inside a cocoon of confusion and barely restrained arousal, mixed with anticipation and a tinge of fear. Something else, that had been so long repressed that it had become an almost independent mind of its own, had awoken. It looked out through the demi's eyes, baring his canines and making the expression on his face wild and feral while it drank in the sight of his target and desire.
