Chapter 4- Rut and Rules
As soon as she was dressed, Ryugin went outside and flew off to the training grounds without waiting for Kakarott and Gohan to show up. The flight alone would give her some time to think about her situation with Vegeta.
`So much for my orders…' But she had no choice, and her superiors would understand that. Rut was undeniable. She needed him, and the rut was causing him to want her. She was too stubborn to give in to her emotions before, but now it was a matter of instinct. But perhaps he needed her as well. She wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if his eyes were just the barest shade lighter when she saw him again. Everyone knew rut was contagious.
"Hmmm..." she felt the wind rush over her as she flew. On Vegeta-sei -- her thoughts stopped abruptly. A wicked smile crossed her face as she uttered a single word.
"Kierma."
* * *
Ryugin had finished her stretches and was starting her warm-ups by the time the others arrived. She watched Vegeta with amusement, wondering how to tell him what she planned.
"What you smirking at, woman?"
"You."
"And why is that, onna?"
"Because I figured out a way to solve our little problem, otoko."
"Oh, really. And what would that be?"
A feral grin crossed Ryugin's face. "A Kierma."
He suddenly looked more closely at her, narrowing his eyes. Then he laughed, a cruel, mocking sound. “You're going into rut, I can see it in your eyes! Why the hell do you want a Kierma when you're going into rut? You'd be better off tied up and gagged, letting Kakarott and I have our way with you for a few days.” He smirked at the thought.
Lovely, steamy, sex-filled images filled Ryugin's mind. Vegeta… and Kakarott? She licked her lips. Mmmm… Abruptly, she snapped back to reality, shaking her head and glaring at Vegeta. “Because I know the purpose of my rut and I refuse to give in without a fight. I would rather lose the Kierma and assure your bond to me.”
Vegeta's face registered shock for instant before recomposing his mask "It's impossible! We have no one to referee."
"Kakarott can do it."
"Kakarott doesn't have the brains to do it, and he doesn't know rules."
"I doubt you know the rules very well yourself, Vegeta, seeing as you never had to worry about fighting in one."
Vegeta glared at her.
"Do you agree, Vegeta? If you win, I am yours, bound by my honor." `And because of the rut, I'll have you anyway…' She smirked.
Vegeta crossed his arms over his chest and held his head high. "What you mean if I win, woman? With you in rut you'll be begging me to screw you senseless before we even get started. Of course, I may take pity on you if you get on your knees before me and beg properly."
Ryugin smiled. “Not a chance in Hell, asshole. I haven't lost that much control.”
Vegeta snorted, unimpressed. "Well, if you want to begin the match some time this century, I suggest you start explaining the rules to Kakarott."
"Right. Kakarott!"
A sound of his name, Goku looked up from his stretches and waited patiently as she walked over to him. She watched as he shifted, trying to keep his muscles warm. And what muscles they were… large and yet flowing, filling out his form quite nicely, and his oh-so-submissive personality toning down and hiding the sheer magnificence of his power.
Come to think of it, he might make a nice mid-morning snack before she committed herself to the ever-exquisite main course. Vegeta's earlier suggestion flitted through her brain and an image of herself, bound, gagged, covered in chocolate, caramel sauce and two gorgeous Saiya-jin males devouring their dessert, namely her, made her want to pounce on the brawny Saiyan in front of her. That impulse was instantly crushed into nonexistence.
"Kakarott, Vegeta and I have decided to have a Kierma.”
Goku looked at her blankly, still off-kilter from the hormones surging his body at her scent.
"Nan-desu-ka?" She asked, exasperated. It was a perfectly simple sentence…
"Ummm... could you repeat that? I didn't understand a word. You must have been speaking in another language or something."
"Oh." Ryugin realized she must have slipped into Saiyago. No wonder Vegeta had registered shock on his face earlier. But he had answered her alike, so at least he hadn't forgotten. She sighed. "Vegeta and I want to hold a Kierma."
Goku scratched his head. "Kierma? What's a Kierma?"
"It's a traditional Saiyan mate fight. Even the word itself means it- it is actually a combination of two other words: `kier' meaning mate, and `ma' meaning fight. I'm going into rut to find my mate and want to assure that Vegeta bonds to me as well, or I'll die trying. So we have a ritual battle to decide our fate. If he wins, we bond, and I'm his."
"So what do you need me for? And what's `rut'?" He peered closely at her. “Ryugin? Why are your eyes orange? Is there something wrong with you? Mine do that sometimes too, and I don't know what's wrong with me.”
Ryugin growled softly in her throat. "I'll explain rut, which is why my eyes are turning yellow, later. This is a very strict ritual with very specific rules. There must be a referee: someone to judge the fight and make sure all those rules are followed."
"Oh, so you want me to judge. Okay!" Goku grinned at her. "Sure, Ryugin."
Ryugin scowled. "Kakarott, there's no time for clowning around. There are two stages to a Kierma. The first is the fight, the second is the hunt. Many Kiermas don't make it to the hunt. Do you understand all that?" From the blank look on his face, she could tell he hadn't.
"Umm…” Goku scratched his head. "There are two stages? I don't understand that. Why don't they always make it to the second stage?"
Ryugin sighed. "Yes, there are two stages. The first is the fight. This satisfies the Saiyan appetite for strong partner, and fighting also works as an aphrodisiac. If it appears the female is losing the battle, she runs into a nearby forest or wooded field, and the hunt begins."
"Runs? Don't you mean flies?"
"No. I'll go over the rules when you understand the basic concept."
"Okay. So the fight is a test of strength."
"Yes. It also tests will and endurance. The reason most fights don't make it to the hunt is because either the female wins, or she has to acknowledge that she has lost the battle. Many would rather be knocked unconscious, and are. Or were, rather."
She paused, and Goku nodded for her to continue. "After the female has acknowledged her loss of the battle and retreated to the woods, the male has to find her. Defeating your prey one thing -- capturing it is another. The hunt is exactly that: a hunt. It is the stalking, capturing and claiming of your prey -- your prize. Do you understand?"
Goku looked at her thoughtfully; it was a new experience for him. "So you fight, and if you lose and aren't knocked unconscious, you run off and he has to find you."
Ryugin smiled. "Exactly. Now for the rules and specifics. As judge you are to make sure in these rules are followed at all times. During the fight, there are several rules. One- no power levels exceeding 1000, but we may change that a little based on the differences between the average of the Saiyan race and us. Two- no flying. Three- ki blasts may not be powered to more than 500, or half your power level. This too may be altered to fit the circumstances. Four- you cannot venture outside the assigned fighting grounds unless moving to the second stage. Lastly, you cannot kill your opponent. The rules for the hunt are simple. You must stay within the appointed area, and there's a time limit of two hours. Once the male has captured the female, he sends up a ki blast, and the two bond. If no such blast has been seen within two hours, the fight is canceled. As judge, you will announce these rules before the fight begins. Okay?"
Goku nodded. "Okay."
"Now, one last thing, Kakarott, and this is important. If this fight proceeds to the hunt, do not follow. Hover over the area and monitor our ki until you see Vegeta's blast, or time runs out. After that, your job is finished. The hunt is real, and he must claim his prize. That is, if he can catch it." She smirked. "You can liken it to these earthlings' wedding nights, if you so wish."
Goku's eyes widened in understanding. "Oh! Now I understand!" He grinned down at her.
"Wonderful, Kakarott," she said sarcastically, glaring up at him. "Are you ready to begin?"
"Yes." Goku scanned the area. "Go warm up. We'll start in 15 minutes."
Vegeta, who had been half listening to the entire conversation, finished his stretches and started warming up. Sometimes he was forced to wonder about Kakarott's intelligence. It was no doubt the man was an idiot. But when it came to battles it was as if his character completely changed. His brainpower too, for that matter. At least some of his Saiyan instinct kicked in.
Goku called for Ryugin and Vegeta to join him and rose into the air. When they were high enough to clearly see the landscape below, they stopped.
"We will use our training field as the battleground. The forest bordering the field to the east is a little less than a square kilometer. If this battle proceeds to the hunt, it will take place there." He looked at Vegeta and Ryugin, they both nodded in response.
Once back on the ground, Goku looked at the two of them. "Are you ready to begin?"
"Yes," Ryugin answered.
"Of course." Vegeta looked to Ryugin smirked. "You'll soon regret challenging me to this, woman. There's no way you can win."
Ryugin smirked back. "Cocky, are we, Vegeta?"
He grinned wickedly at her as Goku began.
"The rules for this Kierma are as follows: the power levels may not exceed 100,000 at anytime. This will take place on the ground-no flying. Ki blasts may not be powered more than half your power level, a 50,000 maximum. You may not venture outside of the delegated areas at any time unless moving to the hunt. You may not kill your opponent, only render unconscious. The hunt has a time limit of two hours. Do you agree to these terms?"
Both warriors nodded in ascension.
"Begin."
