Chapter 6: Capture

Ryujin darted through the trees trying to cover as much ground as possible. She paused in a small thicket before masking her ki completely. Now he would have to hunt her like a true predator. She could sense him moving—steadily closer—before he masked his ki and she lost him.
`Shit…' she thought as she leaned against a tree. There had to be a way to make it harder for him to find her. She reeked of sweat and pheromones from the fight, so he'd easily be able to follow her. What to do? She banged her fist against the tree. The tree! That was it! She smirked and chuckled softly as she bounded up the large oak. She started moving back in the direction she came from, curious as to where he was.
After a few minutes she heard a sound below her and froze. She cautiously peered down at the forest floor to see her hunter tentatively sniffing the air. `Oh Brolli, he's beautiful.' She desperately checked and rechecked her ki, making sure it was fully masked so he couldn't sense her and crouched deeper into the branches.
Vegeta followed Ryujin's trail steadily, jogging through the forest. Gods, she smelled good. He paused and sniffed the air. Her scent definitely continued on the path he was already on, but it had changed. Something wasn't right. It almost smelled as though she had just come through here or was above him, the way the smell lingered in the air. `Or she's above me…' the thought echoed through his mind and he gazed at the branches over his head. She had masked her ki, but maybe, just maybe he could still sense her. He expanded his ki to look for her. Nothing. He decided to climb into the trees and see if she was there. If she wasn't, he could continue on her original trail, but if she was, it would save him the time of following her scent only to find her track looped back on itself.
`Fuck!' Ryujin thought as she watched Vegeta start to climb the tree. She had to move--he'd be able to smell that she was here soon. If she moved too soon, she'd give herself away, but she couldn't let him get too close either. He paused in his ascent a few times to smell the air before continuing to climb. He reached about the same level she was on and paused to check the air again. Shit. She could smell him now, so she knew the opposite was true. She had to move, escape, get away from him.
And idea suddenly hit her. If it worked, it would work well, but if it didn't, she was as good as caught. She decided to take her chances, noticing that he still wasn't sure if she was there and was unable to pinpoint her position. `Just a little closer…' she waited, tensing her muscles to spring. When he was almost on top of her, she lept out at him, snarling. Stunned for an instant, Vegeta unconsciously allowed her to pass and Ryujin took off, racing through the branches away from him before he could recover.
`Damn that woman!' Vegeta snarled as he turned to pursue her rapidly disappearing form.
Ryujin ran. She'd made it past him, but now she had to lose him. When she could no longer hear him behind her, she paused, leaning against a tree trunk to steady herself and slow her breathing. She continued to push her ki down, checking and rechecking her mask. A chill crept up her spine. `I can't sense Vegeta…' She cautiously raised her awareness, letting it spiral outwards, searching for him. `He's here somewhere… but where?'
She heard a small movement above her and her head snapped up to find Vegeta perched on a branch, watching her with a predatory grin. He sprang from the branch to land almost on top of her. She dodged at the last minute, jumping from the branch. As soon as her toes touched the ground she was darting through the trees again.
He was close… so close. His footsteps, though almost silent, pounded in her ears as loudly as her heartbeat, and his breath on her neck threatened to choke her. She felt him reach out for her and she suddenly changed directions, avoiding his grasp and throwing him slightly off-course. She put on a burst of speed to try and buy herself a few precious moments, only to hear his pace match hers. There was a roaring that filled her ears, encompassing and enveloping all other sounds—her heartbeat, her footsteps, her breathing. The hair on the back of her neck tingled and prickled as she heard him closer behind her. And always the roaring—that full, constant sound that filled the background.
The trees suddenly stopped, opening to a large clearing that housed a deep, blue pool at the base of a roaring waterfall. Stumbling upon the sudden lack of trees and masses of water, Ryujin froze dead in her tracks. Vegeta slammed directly into her, wrapping his arms around her, only to release her at the unexpected encompassment of water as they fell into the icy pool.
Taking advantage of her momentary freedom, Ryujin headed for the bank and started to crawl out of the pool. When something grabbed her ankles, threatening to pull her back in, she rolled onto her back and kicked out at him, aiming for his hands, his face. She was released and she tried to back away, but almost instantly she was caught again, this time pinned by his body.
Ryujin snarled, baring her teeth as she struggled, trying to fight him off of her. Vegeta caught her wrists and held them, stretching her arms out to the sides and pinning them there. Still, she struggled. She snarled and roared and thrashed, wriggling beneath him.
Vegeta looked down at her, a triumphant smirk on his face as well as slight amusement. `Still trying to get away, woman? You'll never escape me.'
“Get the hell off me, you bastard! Arrogant pig-headed male!” Ryujin spat at him, baring her teeth. She struggled vehemently, snarling and thrashing. She kicked and twisted and bent, never escaping, but jostling him around quite a bit.
Vegeta glared down at Ryujin, her attempt to free herself angering him more than the words he hardly heard, pushing him beyond reason. He slammed her wrists into the dirt on either side of her head, snarling at her, baring his teeth and growling in absolute fury. “You think you can escape me, woman?! If you are the last of the Saiyans then you will be mine! You are mine, woman, and I'll see to it you'll never be rid of me!”
Ryujin screamed in pain as his teeth sunk into her shoulder, at the base of her neck.
