Primal Chapter 11
Gohan’s story continues…
Gohan sat on the edge of Videl’s bed, listening to her soft crying. He would have cried too, but he didn’t have anything
left in him.
Gohan had gotten up early after a night of fitful sleep. His mind kept returning to how easy it had been to be with
Sharpner, and in contrast, how he could not seem to muster the same physical response to Videl. Gohan realized that he
had to admit something about himself once and for all.
He was gay.
And just thinking of all the pain he endured in the last two days, Gohan knew that he couldn’t repeat what his father had
done by entering into a loveless marriage. He knew that his father had married Chi Chi for a noble reason, to keep his
word to her even though at the time Goku didn’t know what that word had meant. But Gohan knew, with the pain he was
feeling over his father’s decision to leave, that the truly noble thing would have been for Goku to have followed his
heart instead.
Gohan wasn’t going to make the same mistake.
And even though it pained him to hurt Videl, Gohan knew that nothing would compare to the pain she would feel finding out
after they were married that her husband was gay. It scared Gohan like hell, yes, but he had to do this – he had to be
honest with her.
When Gohan came to that realization at 5am, he knew that he had to get it over with and he just couldn’t wait any longer.
He dressed and then flew to her house, the sky still dark blue and studded with fading stars.
At first Videl had seemed surprised when she ran to the window to let Gohan inside. She looked at him, eager and happy,
thinking he came to her because he wanted to be with her that morning.
But her look of eager happiness changed quickly upon seeing the look on his face.
“Videl, I’m sorry to wake you so early, but I’ve got to talk to you.”
She felt fear grip her heart at those words, picking up on something final in the way he said them. They had walked back
to her bed and sat on the edge, facing each other.
“Videl, there’s no easy way for me to say this, so I’m just going to come out and say it. I tried, Videl. I really did.
But I cannot marry you. I’m sorry.”
She stared at him in shock, but calmly asked him, “Why?”
“I’m gay.”
She blinked repeatedly, feeling as if she hadn’t heard right, but deep inside her, a part of her mind returned time and
again to the way he had been with her when they had first attempted to make love.
“Was it because of the day before? It wasn’t good enough? ...”
Gohan interrupted Videl as she started to ask him question after question. “No Videl. It’s me. Not anything that
happened between us. I tried to fight these feelings. I pretended they weren’t there for a long time now. I just can’t
lie to you. I don’t want to hurt you any more than I have to. Funny thing is I do really love you. I could easily
picture myself spending the rest of my life with you, but then there would be a part of me that could never be yours and
that’s not fair to you. I won’t do that to you. I … I’m sorry.”
Videl was now crying softly, inconsolable, not speaking. Gohan just stared at the floor, listening to her cry.
“Videl, I didn’t ever mean to hurt you. Please believe me.”
She managed to speak through her tears. “I know.”
He looked at her in surprise, having felt so guilty for doing this, but he could see she understood. She cried more out of
regret than any anger towards him.
“You’re just being honest.” Then she wrenched her head away from him, merely looking at the man she had wanted to marry
and was now losing, hurting her beyond reason.
“I love you Gohan. But I need to be left alone for awhile. Don’t call me, Ok? I need you to go now.”
He nodded and stood, looking down at her, Videl still in just a t-shirt and underwear, body curled around herself in almost
a defensive way.
“Videl, take care of yourself, Ok?”
Videl nodded, looking as if she would push him towards the window if he didn’t leave soon.
He walked to the window and climbed out of it, turning to spare one last look at her before he flew home. Then he flew
away, feeling the greatest emptiness in his heart that he had ever felt.
* * *
Gohan flew home, knowing that he probably wouldn’t go to school that day. He knew that Sharpener would seek him out and he
really didn’t want to be bothered with him. In fact, Gohan was pretty certain he didn’t want to do anything more with
Sharpener. Sharpener had just afforded him an opportunity to discover something about himself once and for all. There
was nothing more to Sharpener as far as Gohan was concerned.
Just thinking of this, though, Gohan felt like a heel, and knew that he would phone Sharpener at some point if not that
day. He had hurt one person already that day. He didn’t feel like adding to the list.
Gohan entered his room through his window and found his mother sitting on the edge of his bed, her back to him.
“Hello Gohan.”
Gohan climbed in, not saying anything, wondering why she was in his room.
Gohan was about to ask her, when he saw the picture’s from yesterday afternoon in her hands. In particular, on top of the
pile, was one of the pictures of him going down on Sharpener.
She turned to look at him, and he was surprised to see only just a sad little smile on her face. “I guess this is why
you’ve been so angry these last few days?”
Gohan heard the concern in her voice, just pure concern for him, no trace of anger or disappointment. And for some
inexplicable reason, this made him angry as hell.
Now? NOW!? Now she’s going to be reasonable?? He inwardly raged.
“How dare you go through my things?” Gohan said coldly, ripping the pictures from Chi Chi’s hands, startling her.
She stood up, trembling, seeing the anger in his face. “Gohan, please. Let’s just talk. We need to…”
“We NEED to do nothing. Get out!”
Now Chi Chi finally looked like herself as she flared in anger, “How dare you tell me to get out. Listen young man, you
have a lot of explaining to do and you’re going to do it now!”
Gohan acted without thinking, grabbing his mother by her arm. He dragged her toward his bedroom door. Chi Chi, startled
by the painful grip he used, screamed.
Goku, having heard Gohan raise his voice had already been headed to Gohan’s room, but hearing Chi Chi’s scream, ran in,
Goten, still in his pajamas, following close behind.
Gohan saw Goten and knew the little boy shouldn’t hear any of this, so he yelled at Goten to startle him into action, “Get
out of here now, Goten!”
Goten looked hurt as he ran whimpering down the hall, never having had his brother yell at him like that before today.
Goku had it, seeing the red finger marks on Chi Chi’s arm and then witnessing the way Gohan had spoken to his little
brother. Goku slapped Gohan hard in the face, stunning the young man.
The pictures fell from Gohan’s hand, sliding in all directions on his wooden floor, most face up so that Goku was able to
see what they depicted. Goku stood there, stunned, staring in disbelief at them, especially at another one of the
pictures of Gohan going down on Sharpener, landing just at his feet.
Chi Chi trembled, sensing that this was getting out of hand and wanting to prevent it.
Goku was about to ask Gohan what all of this meant, when he felt a blinding pain on the side of his face as Gohan struck
him back.
“Gohan!” Chi Chi yelled. “How dare you strike your father?!!”
Gohan lost it. “GO TO HELL, THE BOTH OF YOU!! GET OUT OF MY ROOM AND LEAVE ME ALONE!!”
Goku, wiping the blood at the corner of his mouth, stared at Gohan in anger.
“Gohan, explain all of this. What has gotten into you? Where is all this anger coming from? Is it this?” Goku gestured
at the pics, a look of fear in his eyes for his son.
Gohan saw the look of sympathy and worry in his father’s eyes as Goku seemed to completely disregard that Gohan had even
struck him. Again, the look of sympathy and worry made Gohan lose control.
He just couldn’t deal with people wanting to help him with this. Not his parents, most of all, at this time.
“I don’t have to explain anything to you.” Gohan said, almost calmly, but the cold sound in his voice was unmistakable.
“What about Videl?” Chi Chi asked. “Are you going to explain this to her?”
Gohan sneered. “I already did. I told her that her fiancé is a big queer. Happy?”
Chi Chi flinched at the derogatory word.
“Don’t speak to your mother like that. She’s just concerned for you.”
“I don’t want her concern. Or yours. Now get the fuck out.”
Goku hardened his stare. “Look. Fine. You’re going through something right now and you don’t want our help. But you’re
not going to abuse us or Goten, understand?!”
“Goten? GOTEN?? What the hell are you even talking about? I’m not the one that’s going to break his heart. No, I’m not
the one that’s been talking to King Kai lately.”
“Stop!” Goku yelled, cutting him off, realization dawning in his eyes.
Chi Chi looked at Goku in confusion. “What’s going on that King Kai has been talking to you, Goku?” Chi Chi’s voice rose
in alarm.
Goku ignored the question, staring at Gohan. Gohan sneered, “Yeah, Dad? What’s King Kai been talking to you about?”
“Gohan, leave it alone. Not now…”
Gohan shrugged his shoulders, a bitter look on his face, “Now’s as good a time as any, Dad. So, what did you talk to King
Kai about?”
Goku stared at his son in anger and dismay. He turned to Chi Chi, about to say something, but something in Gohan made him
interrupt, a deep part of him that wanted to prevent his mother’s pain.
“Look, I’m sick of staying here. I’m not going to deal with all of your questions. I’m leaving. I’m going to get a job
and my own place. Now just leave me alone.”
Gohan turned around, hoping they would leave.
Chi Chi looked as if she would become hysterical, and Goku knew that would put Gohan over the edge. He turned to her,
“Chi Chi, can you leave us alone for now? I want to talk to Gohan.” He gave her a reassuring look, and she nodded,
leaving the room without hesitation. It was unlike her, but Gohan’s behavior truly frightened her. She hoped that
Goku would talk some sense into the young man.
As she passed him, Goku saw that Chi Chi was trembling.
When she left, Goku turned to Gohan. “Son, I know you’re angry. But don’t do anything too hasty. We can talk about this.
We can…”
“Talk? To you?” Gohan turned, facing his father, a look of hate unmistakable on his face. “I’ve got nothing to say to
you.”
Goku winced. “Gohan…”
“No. I’m done with you. Go ahead and leave. I don’t care. Do that to Goten, but if you’re going to do it, then do it
now so that he can just get over you.”
Goku became angry, Gohan talking as if he hadn‘t even considered the little boy in his decision. “Gohan, I have no
intention of hurting Goten. But your behavior of late is doing exactly that.”
“Which is precisely why I’m leaving. I can’t be around you, Dad. And I’m not going to put him through that.”
Goku looked hurt as he said, “I really made a mess of things, haven’t I? Look, Gohan, I’ll stay. I’ll never speak of
leaving again. Please, just don’t do anything just to get back at me…”
“Too late Dad. I can’t stand the sight of you. I want to get out of here and far away from your two-faced ...”
“Gohan!”
“No Dad. It’s over. I hate you. I don’t want anything to do with you. Now get the fuck out of my sight.”
Gohan turned from him, but realized he had one more thing to say. “If you are going to stay, then stay for Goten. He’ll
need you.”
Goku stared at his son’s back, feeling helpless. He wanted to wrap his arms around the young man and hold on tight.
“I’m going to take Goten to school today and tell him that I’m leaving. And then I’m coming home to pack.”
“Gohan, you don’t have to do this…”
“Enough.”
Goku knew that nothing he would say then would make a difference. Gohan had made up his mind, and if anything he knew
about his son, he knew that once Gohan made up his mind to do something, he would see it through.
Goku turned, and left the room, feeling empty inside and hurting like he never had before in his life.
***
“Hey Squirt, don’t cry. Ok? I’ve got to do this, and you’ll have Daddy and Mommy with you. And I’ll see you from time to
time.”
Gohan gathered up Goten in his arms. They were a block from the school, standing in a pool of dappled sunlight. Goten
rubbed a small fist in one eye, pouting at his older brother.
“But why do you have to go?”
“Hey, look, I would have had to leave if I got married anyway. I’m just a grown man now, and its time that I live on my
own.”
“Can I come and visit you?”
Since Gohan had no idea what he was going to do or where he was going to go, he shrugged, but said in an upbeat voice,
“Yeah. Sure. I’d love it if you did.” He smiled at Goten and then gave him a long hug. Gohan fought despair, but knew
he couldn’t continue to live in the same house with Goku and not harm Goten by his reaction to his father. It was best
that he leave, even if he wasn’t sure when he would see the boy again. And this way, he was sure Goku would stay for
Goten. It was a sacrifice he was willing to make.
“So, be good, Ok.” He tweaked the little boy’s nose. Goten nodded.
Gohan walked Goten the rest of the way to school and watched as he entered the building. He waited outside a long time
afterwards.
* * *
Gohan flew until he was just tired of flying then he landed and walked through streets all over the City, aimlessly
wandering wherever his feet would take him. He had no idea where he was going or what he was going to do for a job or an
apartment. He had no skills other than his intelligence, and despite that, anyone would take one look at his baby face
and not take him seriously. But there was just no way that Gohan could continue to live at home.
Gohan was in the heart of the downtown area, where he never really explored before and was surprised to see how alive it
all was. He wondered why he had never really ventured this way, and then thought of his country life at home, and just
sneered.
Gohan wondered if he could get work in a bookshop, or as a waiter, but then found himself staring at what appeared to be a
male strip club, at least, he guessed it was from the posters outside and on the marquee.
Gohan heard Sharpener’s voice inside his head, “Gohan, you... you’ve got an incredible body.”
And then Gohan heard his father’s voice playing back in his memory from that hateful conversation with Krillen, “... He’s
my son. Of all the things I’ve done, I’m most proud of him...”
And Gohan smiled mirthlessly, nodding to himself. “Perfect,” he said.
Gohan walked towards the club, swallowing against the jangle of his nerves, determination on his face.
* * *
Gohan stood in a wood-paneled, cramped office, the smell of stale cigarette smoke hanging in the air with a yellow tinge.
The man behind the desk, named Louis Romeo, was laughing so hard his face was turning a shade of tomato. Gohan gritted
his teeth in anger, feeling like a fool.
“Are you kidding me, Kid?!” the man managed to say. “Look at you!”
Gohan had to admit to himself that he looked anything but stripper material at the moment, in his red cargo pants, white
button down shirt buttoned all the way to the top, and black vest. His black loafers completed the look. Louis gestured
at his clothing, shaking his head. Then Louis pointed at his face, “And you’re just a baby! How old are you trying to
convince me you are? Twenty-one? Twenty?”
Gohan, feeling his face go red, said, “I’m 18. I just turned 18 three weeks ago.” Gohan pulled out his driver’s license
and handed it to the laughing man.
Louis was about to ask where he got the phony ID, but saw the earnest look on the young man’s face. Louis’ mirth sobered a
bit, as he sensed Gohan’s honesty. He shook his head again, smiling at Gohan regretfully, “Look Kid. Go home. You’re
not cut out for this...”
Gohan threw the pictures of himself taken just the day before, on the desk in front of Louis.
Louis looked down at the picture on the top of the stack, the picture showing Gohan posing on the bed. He looked up at
Gohan, a hint of surprise on his face. Louis flipped through the rest of the photos with care. He stopped at one and
Gohan, unable to see, knew Louis was looking at one of the shots in which Gohan was going down on Sharpener. Louis looked
up at Gohan again, and this time the look was measuring. Louis then trailed his eyes down Gohan’s body as he stood up
behind his desk.
“Ok, Kid. You want to be a stripper? Strip.”
“I don’t have an act yet.”
“I’m not asking you to dance. I need to see the goods.”
Gohan blushed again, feeling like a fool, but he wanted to do this. He started to undress, and when he noticed that Louis
wouldn’t look away to give him a chance to fully undress without scrutiny, Gohan looked away himself. When he yanked down
his boxers and stood there completely nude, Gohan stood straight, a determined look on his face, his thoughts deliberately
empty.
Louis saw the look and smirked, but did not comment on it. He walked around Gohan and had to admit, the young man had an
amazing body. “What do you do to work out?”
“Martial arts.”
“Really?” Louis walked around Gohan and now stood in front of him once more. “All this from just martial arts?”
Gohan nodded.
“You any good at it?”
“The best.” Gohan smirked inwardly at his own brazenness.
Louis saw a little glint in Gohan’s eye just then that he definitely liked in his dancers. Louis hoped that he could find
a way to bring that look out a bit more, because it would be a great thing on stage.
“Well, you may have a baby face, but you’re hung like a horse.” Gohan just managed not to blush.
Louis seemed to be thinking as he paced around the room. With his back to Gohan he asked, “Do you know how to dance?”
“Not really.”
Louis smiled to himself, liking the young man’s honesty. Louis turned around. “Do you think you could learn, what with
your martial arts training, maybe it could be something you could pick up? Heck, maybe even combine the two?”
Gohan thought he could apply the same principles in learning to dance that he used when training. “Yes, I believe I could
pick it up quickly.”
Louis liked the confident look in Gohan’s eyes, and how Gohan seemed to be forgetting his nudity already. Louis thought he
would test him further.
“Ok, well, I’ve got someone here working on his routine right now that could probably show you the ropes. Come with me.”
And Louis turned to go, making it clear that he intended Gohan to follow him immediately and of course, not leaving time
for Gohan to get dressed. Gohan was forced to follow Louis, while still nude.
Gohan trembled as he followed, but kept saying silently to himself, “I can do this.”
Louis walked out of his office and down a hallway until he was standing inside a large club room, with a stage to his right.
On stage, a stripper was dancing his routine, obviously working on some new moves.
Gohan noticed that the stripper was handsome, with long blond hair, and dark, almost black eyes. The stripper noticed
Louis standing with a naked young man and stopped what he was doing, smiling at the pair of them as he hopped off the
stage.
“Rick, this is Gohan. He says he wants to give stripping a try. But he doesn’t dance. He got this bod from martial arts
though, and says he can learn. Want to see what you can do with him?”
Rick smiled at Gohan in a friendly manner, then looked Gohan up and down. Again, Gohan fought against his own embarrassment,
finding a way, within himself, to not blush as he normally would under such scrutiny.
Rick whistled. “That is some bod you’ve got there, buddy. Just from martial arts?” Both Gohan and Louis nodded. “Wow,
you must be good.”
Again, Gohan nodded. Rick walked around him.
Rick nodded at Louis, “Yeah, sure. We can start any time.”
“Ok.” Louis turned to Gohan. “I’ll give you one week to get your act together. You’ll have to come up with a name, and a
whole routine.”
Gohan interrupted Louis, “I can’t go by my own name? At least just my first name?”
Louis looked at Gohan as if he had two heads.
Rick laughed, then corrected, “Gohan, no one uses their real name.”
“I want to.” Gohan saw the grim look they gave each other. “I have my reasons.”
Louis smiled mirthlessly, as he looked down at the floor. “Listen Kid, it’s obvious you want to upset mommy and daddy, but
I play for keeps here. If you want to work here, I’m going to need a commitment and...”
“I am committed, Louis. I’m leaving home and I need to make money. I don’t have any experience at anything. Please, give
me a chance.”
Louis regarded him for a moment. “You haven’t left home yet?”
Gohan shook his head, dreading that Louis wasn’t going to give him this shot. Rick interrupted.
“Hey, I’m looking for a room mate. I’ll let you crash in my apartment until you get paid. Then all I’ll need is half the
rent. If you fly here, that won’t be a problem.”
Gohan looked at Rick hopefully, feeling how this could all come together, if Louis would just give him the chance. Gohan
saw the look that Rick was giving him, sort of a lingering look of interest, and Gohan finally did blush, cursing himself
in silence.
Gohan noticed that Rick’s eyes were much lighter up close, almost caramel in color. They were quite nice.
“All right. Rick will work with you. You have to be ready to dance by next Friday.”
Gohan smiled, grateful. He nodded his thanks at Rick as Louis led the way back to the office to do some necessary
paperwork and so that Gohan could get dressed.

He waited outside a long time
afterwards.
