"-nothing."
Everyone looked at Lady Rouhani in shock.
"I have been trying to break Valeria of her bad habits for a long time, but have continuously failed because of her father's incessant spoiling." She looked at her daughter who was still clinging to her father. Even she was looking at her mother in surprise. "Maybe if I had beaten her myself years ago-," she began.
"Mama!" Valeria cried out.
"Do not `Mama' me, young lady. As I was saying, if I had beaten her myself, or perhaps raised her as a traditional Kylarian female, maybe she would not have turned out this way."
No one had a response for that. She regarded her offspring again for a moment.
"Valeria, get to your room and fix yourself," her mother told her.
Valeria looked to her father as is she was checking to see if it was okay.
"NOW!" Lady Rouhani yelled, which startled everyone. Valeria scampered away into the fortress. "And you," she said moving her gaze to Bulma. She descended the stairs to approach the girl, "I want to thank."
She took Bulma's hand in hers and held it reverently. "I am deeply sorry for all the trouble that she has caused the two of you. I believe that I shall choose more wisely the next time."
Lady Rouhani released Bulma's hand and went back into the fortress. "Come Gefen. We need to set the servants packing," she called over her shoulder. "I wish to be gone by night fall. I think we have taken enough of our good host's hospitality."
Lord Gefen, looking as dumbfounded as anyone else, quickly turned and followed behind his mate. Any of the servants that had been watching had already returned to their duties, not wanting to be caught staring. That just left Lord Vegeta, Vegeta, and Bulma.
Lord Vegeta sighed at put his hand to his forehead. "Well, son. I guess you got what you wanted," he told him. He then shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Now it was just Bulma and Vegeta.
"And what do you have to say for yourself?" he asked her. He noticed the female's eyes were a little unfocused and staring into nowhere. "Woman, are you listening to me?" He reached out to grab her shoulder, but missed as Bulma slumped to the ground. Vegeta was caught off guard. He dropped to the ground himself and shook her hoping she was just pretending.
"Woman! Woman, wake up! Bulma!" he called out to her urgently. He picked up one of her hands, but quickly slid limply out of his. Now he was starting to worry. He felt her wrist this time checking her pulse. It took him a moment to find it, but he did, although it was very weak.
"Damn it, Woman! What's wrong with you?"
Without a second thought, Vegeta scooped Bulma up into his arms and ran into the fortress. He wasn't sure if it would be better to take her to his rooms or hers. He chose hers as it was nearest and maybe he could find out what was wrong with her from the other females there.
He caused no small commotion when he burst into the harem with an unconscious Bulma in his arms. He had been to her room once or twice before and easily remembered its location.
No sooner than he had gotten her settled on the bed, two females pooped up and began talking so fast it was making his head hurt.
"What did you do to her?" the dark haired one yelled at him. "I swear if you hurt her, I'll rip you apart myself!"
"SILENCE, WOMAN!" he yelled back.
Chi Chi immediately got quiet though Eighteen continued to fret about her friend from her bedside.
"What happened to Bulma?" Chi Chi asked in a near whisper.
"I don't know. She passed out at my feet without me laying a hand on her." Vegeta told her.
"Hey Chi Chi," Eighteen cut in, "doesn't Bulma look a lot thinner than usual?"
Chi Chi looked at her unconscious friend and noticed her face did seem rather gaunt. "Now that you mention it, it does seem as if she's lost a lot of weight."
Vegeta glanced at her for himself and remarked to himself that her face didn't look as full and round as usual.
Eighteen was the first to figure it out. "YOU!" she yelled, pointing an accusing finger at Vegeta. "This is YOUR fault!"
Vegeta looked at her as if she was stupid. "MY fault? What does this have to do with me?"
Eighteen walked up in his face and used the same finger to jab Vegeta in his chest. "Aren't you the one that told Bulma she couldn't eat?"
"I did what?"
"Yeah! That's right!" Chi Chi chimed in. "You told Bulma she couldn't eat until she cleaned some armor of yours!"
He looked at the both of them in disbelief. "Do either of you know how long ago it was I said that to her? That armor was cleaned a long time ago. I thought she did it."
"Bulma didn't do it. She had no intention of doing it. She even went along with your stupid punishment since you told Krillin not to feed her!" said Eighteen.
"But I rescinded that order a while ago! I thought she cleaned it, so I………..I…………," Vegeta trailed off. `Did I tell him that it was okay for her to eat again?' he thought to himself, seeing the error. `I would swear that I did, but how else could Bulma have ended up this way?' No way was he going to take the blame though.
"It's not my fault the stupid girl didn't know she could eat! She should've cleaned my armor like she was supposed to and this would have never happened."
"YOU JERK!" Chi Chi shoved Vegeta back. "This is ALL your fault and you can't even admit it!" she continued pushing him until he was outside Bulma's door.
The shocked Vegeta didn't do anything, being one that doesn't ordinarily hit females.
"You just stay away from her! I sure she won't want to see you face again!" she snatched the curtain closed, which shielded the women inside from his view.
"I WILL DO WHATEVER I PLEASE!" he yelled through the curtain, but got no response. "I own everything here! I'll return when I'm ready!" Vegeta huffed and puffed, then crossed his arms and left. He was muttering about stupid females all the way back to his rooms, but no one that didn't know what happened bothered to ask why.
He went into his bedroom and through himself down on the bed. He couldn't believe this afternoon's events. After a brief scuffle, Bulma had managed to get rid of the biggest pain in the neck he had ever had the misfortune to suffer. As thanks, all he could do is sit in his room and grumble, since the one he should be thanking was asleep. He hoped those two females were taking good care of his woman.
He would wait a day or two before going to see her. He hoped she wouldn't be too mad at him. He lay on his back to stare at the canopy over his bed, but all he could see was the look of glee on her as she trounced Valeria into the ground. He grinned to himself thinking about their fight, replaying it over and over again in his mind. There was truly no other female worthy of him, so he made his decision about her before he retired for the night.

"Ohh, my head………" Bulma moaned and tried to sit up.
Eighteen was sitting beside her and quickly pressed her back down. "No, Bulma. Don't try to sit up. You're still too weak."
Bulma brought a hand to her head to massage her temples to help make some of the pain go away. She cracked and eye open to see her friend sitting beside her with a bowl of something hot and steaming in her hands.
"Here, are you hungry?" she asked.
Bulma stomach at that moment decided to voice its preference.
Eighteen laughed. "I'll take that as a yes." She adjusted the pillows so Bulma could sit up and spoon fed her.
"I can feed myself, Eighteen." Bulma protested.
"No, I don't think so. You've been asleep for so long, we were worried that maybe you had bumped your head when you fell and possibly not wake up."
"I bumped my head?" asked Bulma. She rubbed a hand across the back of her head and sure enough there was a rather large lump back there. "Well, I guess that explains the headache."
"We're just glad you're okay. When Vegeta carried you in, we didn't know what to think. It wasn't until later that we heard about your fight."
"Oh, yeah," Bulma suddenly remembered. "Where is she?"
"Who? Lady Valeria?" at Bulma's nod she continued. "Her and her parents left that same evening. I heard from some of the maids that she left in a big hooded cloak and got in the carriage they arrived in without a word."
"Wait, weren't her parents mad? I mean, I shouldn't be alive right now, should I?"
"You don't remember?" Eighteen asked quizzically, giving her friend a strange look.
"No. Last thing I remember was Vegeta defending me, then Lady Rouhani was about to suggest my punishment. After that I don't remember anything."
"Well, from what I was told, Lady Rouhani decided that you weren't to be punished. She said her daughter basically deserved what she had gotten and then ordered them to pack up and that they were going home."
Bulma looked at her friend thoughtfully at that piece of information.
"If you want any details, you'll have to ask Vegeta."
Bulma's eyes lit up at the mention of his name. "Vegeta. Where is he now?"
Eighteen hadn't missed the look in her friend's eyes. It seemed as if she had truly fallen for their young Master, so she kind of hesitated as to whether or not she should tell Bulma that it was his fault that she hadn't eaten in so long. Even though Vegeta had proven more than helpful the past couple of days as far as moving her around so that Chi Chi and Eighteen cold bathe her, change her clothing, or change the bed linens. He never said too much to them, he just appeared and did whatever they asked of him for her and just as quietly disappeared. Eighteen though perhaps he was beginning to care for her also or maybe he just felt guilty and was trying to make up for what he had done in some way.
"He's-,"
"Right here."
Both girls looked in Bulma's doorway to see Vegeta leaning there casually. They both wondered how long he had been standing there. He took the few steps to Bulma's bedside and took the bowl from Eighteen.
"You may go now," he told Eighteen.
"But-," she started.
He gave her `the look'. "That wasn't a request, that was an order. I will see to her needs."
Eighteen looked at her friend lying there helpless on the bed, not sure if she really should leave.
"It's okay, Eighteen. I'll be alright with him," Bulma reassured her.
"Alright, but I'll be back to bring you your dinner," the blond promised and backed out of the doorway reluctantly closing the curtain behind her.
Vegeta knelt at Bulma's bedside and just looked at her for a moment. She looked terrible and he wondered why he didn't notice before. He felt really, really bad about what happened as it was his fault. She, however, smiled brightly at him, as if he hadn't done a thing.
He looked down into the bowl to see that it was empty. "Good. You finished your food."
"Yeah, I was a little hungry," she said, rubbing her somewhat appeased stomach.
There was an awkward silence for a moment and Vegeta looked around the room trying to think of something to say. Bulma did the same not thinking of a single thing to say to him. They spent most of there time arguing, but there wasn't really anything to yell at each other about right now and besides neither of them really wanted to engage in a shouting match.
"Vegeta, I just wanted-,"
"Woman, I didn't-"
They both began at the same time and both got quiet at the same time. They sat there quiet for another moment more. Bulma found her voice again before Vegeta did.
"What happened to Valeria?" she asked.
He looked at her oddly. "Don't you remember?"
"I already went through this with Eighteen. I think that I was already out of it way before I hit the ground," she admitted. "The last thing I remember was waiting for her to decide my punishment."
"Oh. Well, she decided not to do anything. She knows Valeria is a spoiled brat and I think that she was just trying mated her off to the first available young male. She apologized for her daughter and they left."
"That's it?" Bulma asked incredulously.
"That's it."
"Hmph. Well how about that?"
"Yes, I must admit that it came as a surprise to me also. I thought that Lady Rouhani was pressed to have her daughter mated to me, but after you thoroughly thrashed her, I think Lady Rouhani actually respected and liked you."
"Oh," was all Bulma had to say.
"And if you disobey me like that again," Vegeta scolded, "I will beat you myself!"
Bulma was clearly not expecting to be yelled at and blinked at him in confusion. "But it wasn't my fault! She always just happened to show up wherever I was!"
Vegeta's goal wasn't to start an argument though. "Woman, calm yourself. I don't need you passing out like some kind of weakling again."
"But it wa-," she began, but Vegeta cut her off with his hand over her mouth. She tried to continue talking but everything was muffled.
"Woman, will you be silent and listen for once!" All sounds from behind his hand stopped. "Look, while I do have confidence in your skill, you don't understand the fear you put in my heart when I saw you down in the courtyard. I knew you could beat that fool on your worst day with your eyes closed. I was more concerned that her parents might demand your life as retribution."
Vegeta pulled the stunned Bulma into his arms and hugged her tightly. "I wouldn't be able to bear it if someone took you away from me," he whispered into her ear.
Bulma couldn't believe he was saying this. She almost pushed him away so she could see his face, to make sure the sincerity in his voice matched the look in his eye. All she could do was weakly return his embrace. Vegeta himself couldn't believe he was able to tell her that, but he needed to be sure that she knew how important she was to him.
"Vegeta……………I……… ..," Bulma began.
"You don't have to say anything."
Just as abruptly as he grabbed her he let her go and got up from the bed. He finally noticed that he was still carrying the bowl.
"The other female. She said she would bring you dinner?" he asked. Bulma simply nodded. "Good. I won't have to worry about you not eating."
Bulma watched as Vegeta was about to really leave this time. She debated whether or not to stop him because she really wanted him to stay.
"Vegeta wait!" He turned back to her. "Can you…………come back later? After dinner perhaps?" she asked hopefully.
Vegeta was back at her side before she could blink. He took Bulma's hand in his and kissed it, much like how she had seen him kiss Valeria and Lady Rouhani's, but Bulma was sure his lips lingered a little longer than necessary. A look of disappointment briefly passed his features.
"I would, but I cannot. I have to stay with my Father as he receives his audiences from our people. There won't be another until Mid Winter, so I can't miss this one."
Vegeta saw the downcast look from Bulma and amended the request. "I can't join you this evening, but I promise to be here when you awaken in the morning."
Bulma's face lit up in pleasure. "I would like that," she said.
"Until then," Vegeta said, kissed her hand again and quickly left.
Bulma knew her cheeks were flushed and was thankful for the dim light in her room. She was extraordinarily pleased with Vegeta's promise.
`I don't know what's come over me,' she thought.
