Sacrificing Love
Chapter Seven: Preparation
Bulma rested her head on her pillow and stared at the ceiling. In the past couple of days, Bulma was called to fix the gravity room frequently, now that the prince was undergoing intense training. She could understand it, though. He only had a few weeks-however much time that was. "Frieza, you inconsiderate bastard," she said under her breath. He had to be stopped.
She hadn't seen much of her friend Chi Chi, since the loss of her mate's father. `Kakarrot must be taking it pretty hard.' Bulma thought to herself. She had heard some commotion the day she heard that Bardock fought Frieza and was defeated. They had said something about Kakarrot becoming the "Legendary"-whatever that was. She sighed slightly and closed her eyes. `Good. Maybe Kakarrot will defeat Frieza and I'll be able to finally go home.' Soon. It was so soon. She couldn't wait to get back to Capsule Corp.
Of course it would be a little hard for her to go home. She had to leave Chi Chi. She had shown Bulma so much kindness since she had arrived here. And now she would have to leave her. She never had a friend as close as Chi Chi since Yamcha. But Yamcha was-
"Gone." Bulma sighed again. She would never see him again. Her first love, gone in an instant. Thank Kami that she hadn't seen what had happened to him, otherwise she would have begged to join him. Now, she had to build her life off of what remained.
Bulma shifted to lay on her side as she pondered the newest difficulty. The arrogant prince named Vegeta. As much as he may deny it, they both knew that some kind of electricity was there. But she also knew all too well that his pride would silence the thought. He could be rude and tough one moment, and then be kind and gentle the next. `What causes that behavior in him?' she wondered. Bulma supposed that it was his duty as a prince of the strongest race. His duty would not allow anyone to be too close. Vegeta would not be attached to anyone-thanks to his pride-not even his own father. But nonetheless, she felt something for him. Sure, it wasn't nearly as strong as what she felt for Yamcha, but it was there in her heart.
Bulma moved a strand of her aqua hair and silenced her thoughts. She would need to concentrate on getting some rest before Vegeta stormed in and demanded her to fix the gravity room. He could always find new ways to break it. But at least she was fully dressed this time.

Vegeta landed a kick against the fellow Saiyan's head. The man fell down to the ground. `I need some worthy opponents.' Vegeta thought to himself. He looked around the gravity room. `These idiots won't even give me the exercise I deserve.' He needed to get stronger, that was for sure now that Frieza had given them a time limit. He needed to reach Super-Saiyan, and fast. His personal guard could not be stronger than him.
He knew that if he fought Kakarrot now, there would be a great chance of his own defeat. The prince of Saiyans would not lose to anything. But Kakarrot was a lot better than the rest of these weaklings. Vegeta would have to make sure that he knew when to quit. "You there!" Vegeta yelled to one of the guards. "Fetch Kakarrot."

The next morning, Bulma rose from her sleep with a loud yawn. It had been a while since she had a decent night's sleep. She was surprised that Vegeta hadn't woke her up complaining about the gravity room, but she was grateful. She swung her legs around the side of the bed and stretched.
There was a knock at her door. "Come in, Videl." Bulma said as she stood up.
Videl came in with her arms full of breakfast dishes. She had been given Bulma's old duty, since Bulma was promoted. "Hi, Bulma."
"Hello, Videl. How are you this morning?" Bulma asked as she began to eat.
"Fine, I guess. But it's only the beginning of the day, so I suppose that it could get a lot worse."
Bulma chuckled. Videl's attitude reminded her of herself when she was her age. From what she could piece together from their past discussions, Bulma understood that Videl was brought to Vegeta-sei from Chikyuu when she was a little girl. Her father, the great Heracule, had died trying to save his daughter from the Saiyan slave traders that had appeared on the planet sixteen years ago. Videl had only a handful of memories of that day, or at least she never talked about the rest. However, Bulma could sympathize with her, since she had been forced into slavery a two months ago, but she couldn't imagine how someone could be a slave for as long as Videl.
When Bulma finished her breakfast, Videl stepped forward to collect the dishes, but Bulma raised her hand to stop her. "That's okay, Videl. I'll take the dishes back to the kitchen. I want to see Chi Chi, anyway."
Videl nodded and turned to leave. "Bye Bulma." she said as she closed the door behind her.
Bulma entered the kitchen with her dishes. Chi Chi was in the process of putting things away. She turned and saw Bulma. "Hey, Bulma."
"Hi." Bulma said as she put the stack down on one of the counters. "I haven't seen you in a while.
"Yeah, I know. It's too hard for Kakarrot, though. He and his father were so close."
Bulma eased herself onto a nearby stool. "How is he?" she asked in a soft voice.
Chi Chi's face turned into a slight frown. "He's not completely passed the grief, and I don't think he ever will. This is a lot worse than when his brother, Radditz died."
"How did he die?"
"Radditz? He was killed on one of Frieza's purging missions. Actually, it was Frieza himself who had eliminated him, after Radditz had deliberately disobeyed him by being hasty and impatient. Frieza had hoped to gain some of the planet's fuel resources, but Radditz had the planet blown into bits before Frieza could threaten the planet's inhabitants. Needless to say, Frieza didn't think his actions were something to celebrate."
Bulma nodded. "I see. But shouldn't that be more fuel for his fire? I mean, if I were in Kakarrot's place, I would be more angry if the same bastard that killed my brother also killed my father."
"Believe me Bulma, it does add some more fuel. But Kakarrot was much more closer to his father than to his brother."
Bulma sighed. "What's this about a `legendary'?"
Chi Chi blinked. "You don't know? Wow. I figured with as much time as you spend with the prince, he would be throwing that in your face."
"No, he hadn't mentioned it. He has told me that he was the strongest man in the universe, though. Millions of times.
"Not anymore."
Bulma blinked. "What do you mean?"
"The Legendary is when a Saiyan achieves the highest peak of their own strength. It allows them to transform into an even stronger being. A Super-Saiyan. There are rumors that there are levels beyond that, but then again, no one has achieved them yet."
"So that's why everyone's making a fuss about it."
"No, that's not why. The prince was supposed to be the first one to achieve it, as the legend states. But now that Kakarrot has reached it before Prince Vegeta, everyone's beginning to question the legend."
"Oh." Because of this, the prince was becoming more and more dedicated to his training. It all made sense now.
"Is there anything else that I could answer for you?" Chi Chi asked her.
"No. I'm starting to understand now why I should be here. I can't just sit around here, waiting for Frieza to get what's coming to him. I need to help." And with that, Bulma said goodbye to her friend and left the kitchen."

"You wished to see me, Vegeta-ouji?"
Vegeta turned to face his new rival. "Kakarrot, we're going to spar. And after that, you will tell me what the secret is to becoming a Super-Saiyan."
Kakarrot nodded. He knew when he was summoned that this wasn't going to be a walk in the park. He knew the prince was furious over something that he couldn't control, but it didn't matter to him. He needed something to punch right now, and if the prince was offering himself to be his punching bag, then he would oblige.
It was only a matter of time before he brought that albino son of a bitch down with his own hands.
