A/N: Well, this chapter is kind of weird. When I was editing it, I was in a `fun' mood, so if something doesn't make sense, or is thrown in their that is just some `off' comment- that's why.

PART IV: GINYU

Vegeta landed with a quiet tap of his boots on the ground and walked over to a crack in a rock face, nearly invisible from the air. On the ground, it split open wide enough for someone to have a little breathing room and six dragonballs. Which, actually, worked out perfectly for his needs.

In a matter of seconds, all seven dragonballs were grouped together in the open. Krillin and Gohan took the moment to chatter excitedly, but briefly, to each other.

"Would you two hurry up and get on with it?! We don't have much time!"

"I'd say you're out of time." All three looked up in horror as a horned, purple alien floated in the sky above them, four others at his sides. "I'll just take these," the man said, using his ki to lift the seven dragonballs to form a circle over his head as he flew off to bring them back to Frieza, ruining Vegeta's day.

The remaining four began to talk amongst themselves. A short, four-eyed, fat green alien and an orange one with white hair, about a foot or two taller than the first, were the nearest two. A tall blue man with red eyes and a fairly human looking man with a mohawk of red hair were slightly farther back.

"Who are those guys," Krillin asked.

"That's the Ginyu Force! The one that made off with the dragonballs was Captain Ginyu, the strongest and leader," Vegeta said, furious that once again, immortality had been just within his reach, then ripped away. Fate had it in for him, which is an undisputed statement.

The three warriors watched on as the four members of the Ginyu Squad began a series of "Rock, Paper, Scissors." It soon became apparent that the purpose of this was to decide who got to fight whom. Eventually, the short, fat green one straightened and looked over at the three.

"I get to fight you," he said pointing at either Krillin or Gohan, his distance making it hard to discern.

"Wait! Guldo! We haven't properly introduced ourselves," the orange guy pointed out. This caused the earthlings to wonder what the point of introductions were, lest it was for later reference in case the topic came up.

"Hey, you're right." That set off the single most idiotic routine to ever grace human eyes. Vegeta could be heard to mutter something under his breath, but the exact words were indecipherable and more than likely, innappropriate. Krillin and Gohan watched on with disbelief as the four began to strike weird poses and shout out their names in succession.

"Guldo!" said the short green one.

"Jeice!"

"Burter!" cried the blue one.

"And Recoome!" was the one with the wealth of red hair atop his head. If asked to, Krillin wouldn't have been able to think of the words to describe how much respect he had lost for his opponents after their latest stunt. The test of time would still fail to reach any sort of result.

"Don't be misguided by their idiocy," Vegeta warned lowly, "they're still incredibly strong."

Gohan could only nod dumbly. If he had known any curses, he probably would have chosen them, all of them, to help ask what exactly he just saw. If the Ginyu Force wanted to keep their enemies on edge by manipulating confusion and shock, they were geniuses in their tatics. Geniuses to be mimicked.

Luckily, they managed to pull themselves out of their stupor as Guldo began to attack. Gohan and Krillin rushed forward and began to throw a volley of punches and kicks. It soon proved to be too much for the alien and as the humans let up for a fraction of a second, he disappeared, leaving Krillin and Gohan to wonder where he went.

Suddenly, Gohan spotted him and charged forward, Krillin at his heels. Once again, he disappeared. This led to confusion.

"Hey Vegeta, what's the deal with this guy?"

"He can stop time," came the nonchalant reply. It then became apparent how little respect Guldo had for any space-time continuums. A few more rounds of this and finally Gohan and Krillin had him lined up. However, as they geared up for the last bout, they suddenly found they couldn't move. Apparently the alien's strength wasn't in his muscles, but in his mind. This caused reasonable dismay in his opponents. He had the pair frozen in place as he concentrated his energy on a nearby tree, uprooting it and using his power to strip its branches and sharpen it to a deadly fine point.

Gohan and Krillin watched in horror as the spear chose a path for them. With burgeoning speed, it shot towards them until suddenly, it stopped, inches away from Krillin's face before it dropped to the ground, like a meat cleaver... The two found they could suddenly move their limbs again and looked over to see what happened that caused Guldo to let up. What they saw was Vegeta with an outstretched arm and a headless alien -thin wisps of smoke rising from the gap between its shoulders.

"Wow, thanks Vegeta!" Gohan said, dropping to land lightly next to the saiyan prince, happy that he was enjoying life.

"Hmph. Don't go thinking I've gone soft on you; I need you to help me beat Frieza. And if you hadn't been so stupid in the first place, I never would've had to interfere." Up on top of a plateau, the remaining members of the Ginyu Force squabbled over the fate of their colleague, ultimately deciding that although for the most part they didn't care for the guy, someone was still going to pay for his death. No one messed with the Ginyu Force and lived, it was an assumed unwritten rule amongst them.

The next to step forward to fight was Recoome. The second strongest member of the Ginyu Force surpassed only by Captain Ginyu himself. This did not seem to be very promising, for Team Earth, that is.

At first, Gohan and Krillin went at him, failing to make any progress. Before long, Krillin was taken out of the fight with a vicious blow to the back. It was not on his list of good things to happen to him.

Vegeta watched as Gohan was flung out of the way moments after his friend was taken out of the fight. The prince then decided to have a crack at it. With the prowess of a jaguar, he charged the dumb warrior from the side, but at the last possible second, he was noticed and ended up swinging at empty air. Then, a jarring blow to the top of his head smashed his chin into the ground, followed by the rest of him. This looked bad for jaguars everywhere.

Vegeta was furious, angrily trying a few more attacks, only to have them blocked and then countered. Then, the saiyan found an opening and shot his most powerful blast at his adversary, his Gallic Gun. With no small amount of satisfaction, Vegeta watched as Recoome shot backwards into a painful impact with some rocks. He watched the blooming clouds of smoke intently to see what the effect of his attack was.

To his horror, as the smoke and dust cleared, he saw Recoome standing, a little scratched up and his clothes a little torn, but otherwise no worse for wear. Vegeta felt his heart drop heavily in his chest, realizing he didn't have a chance.

As if to amplify his inner thoughts, Recoome dealt him a fierce blow to his stomach before he could even blink. A powerful kick sent him careening wildly into a mountainside. A few moments to recover weren't even allowed as the redheaded beast sent a deadly blast of energy after him.

Vegeta knew he had already lost, but would rather die than give up and intently focused on his target, but the exchanges to follow sent him to the ground where he would stay until he could find the strength to sit up again.

A sudden smack in the back of the head sent Recoome face-first into the dirt, revealing Gohan, holding his attack in the air. Then, the half-saiyan dove and began to do his best to pummel the doofus so far into the ground one could bury him.

When Gohan had seen that Krillin wasn't all right, his anger had mounted severely. Even when Vegeta had been taken out, it helped to fuel his anger. It was enough to give him a sufficient power-up. Fury jolted his energy. Unleashing it seemed a logical conclusion.

Suddenly, through the building screen of dust, a fist shot up hard, knocking Gohan a good ways back. The fist was followed by an arm, which in turn, was followed by Recoome. It now took all of Gohan's strength and power just to keep from being hurt too badly. Then, for no obvious reason, Gohan was distracted, a strange smile lighting his face, which allowed Recoome to send a finishing blow to the boy, knocking the kid more than senseless as he smashed against the rocky ground, coming to a rest in a near catatonic state.

Recoome decided to finish the kid for good, and began charging his battered and near lifeless body. The instant appearance of a man clad in an orange gi stopped him in his tracks.

Vegeta had managed to sit up, although painfully. From there, he seemed to find his eyes glued to Kakkarot. Though the man was hiding his power, and to Vegeta, it seemed as though he were impossibly strong. The prince felt the blood pumping through his veins in excitement.

His eyes followed Kakkarot as the man walked over and knelt next to the still body of his son, his back facing the saiyan prince. Then, to Vegeta's utter astonishment, the boy leapt up, wounds completely healed. This was an unexpected development.

Kakkarot and his brat then walked over to their bald friend, and before long, he too, was healed. They talked jovially amongst themselves, seeming to forget fighting. Then Kakkarot placed his hand on Krillin's forehead. From Vegeta's perspective, it looked like he was trying to read the bald man's mind. When he was done doing whatever it was he was doing, Kakkarot thrust his fingers into a small leather bag, and grabbed something.

"Hey Vegeta, catch!" he called out; throwing whatever was in his hand at the prince. Recoome tired to grab the object with his teeth, but the projectile shattered the bone in its way. Vegeta jerked his hand up, caught it, and then opened his fist to see what lay in his palm. It was a small bean. Why Kakkarot had given him a bean was beyond him. He didn't even like beans! Especially not beans that smelled like Kakkarot's sweat, or that happened to come from him. So he stared at it, uncertain at what further action should be taken.

"Eat it, it's a senzu bean!" Kakkarot yelled. Vegeta stared at it a moment longer. *What the hell is a senzu bean?!* With a little hesitation, Vegeta popped the bean in his mouth and chewed, reflexive at the bitter taste, but forcing himself to swallow. It even tasted like Kakkarot's sweat! Or rather, what he inferred to be the taste, judging by the smell. Immediately, he felt a surge of power channel its way through his body, sweeping over his injuries and leaving them healed. With it, he felt the increase of power when a saiyan recovers from a battle. His eyes went wide in shock. Suddenly he knew what Kakkarot had done to heal the other two.

As Vegeta wondered over his newly recovered body, a puzzling thought struck him. *Why did Kakkarot give me one of those beans? Was it because he wants me to help him fight the Ginyu Force?*

*****

Goku watched Vegeta's eyes pop open as the prince realized what exactly the senzu bean had done. Personally, Goku was a little surprised Vegeta had did what he said and eaten the bean. Though, he did notice the slight hesitation and the look of incredulity on the other saiyan's face. Goku smiled to himself.

After reading Krillin's mind and seeing all that had gone on while they were waiting for him, he figured he owed it to Vegeta since he had saved Gohan and Krillin from Guldo. Of course, he realized Vegeta had only done it because he had needed their help, but Goku still felt touched. He gazed softly at the prince a moment longer before turning his attention towards Recoome, his sprout of red hair playing with the breeze.

"You know you don't have to do this, you can leave now and no harm will come to you."

Recoome stared at Goku in shock, as if he were some kind of severely disfigured freak of nature that came off as an idiot.

"A Ginyu member won't back down from a fight."

"Sorry to hear that. I guess I'll just have to teach you a lesson."

"All right tough guy, you asked for it. Time for the Recoome Boom!" The man said as he began to charge Goku, faster than Gohan or Krillin could follow. Suddenly, he stopped, hunched over, and a look of pain etched itself onto his features, as Goku's fist was buried in his stomach. Stepping out from under his opponent, Goku explained.

"I saw an opening, so I took it." Without the support of Goku's fist, Recoome collapsed to the ground, and passed out.

*****

Vegeta locked his eyes onto Kakkarot, stunned. At first, the thoughts that ran through his mind had no shape or form, slowly turning into something comprehensible. One thing was certain: the man standing before him had reached a new level.

The prince of all saiyans watched as a lowly third class baka took on the next two members of the Ginyu Force. Awestruck, he saw Jeice and Burter punch right through Kakkarot, always failing to hit him. The man was too fast for them to land a hit. They could only swing through his after image! This was something for Krillin's list of good things to happen to him.

*He's… he's a super saiyan!* Vegeta gawked openly at Kakkarot. Could the legend of the saiyan race be standing before him? The last super saiyan had appeared a millennium ago. It was said that the power of a super saiyan could easily overshadow Frieza's. *Only I understand what has happened to Kakkarot, perhaps better than even he does.*

With an intent gaze, Vegeta kept his eyes on the other saiyan, managing to follow his actions thanks to the upgrade in power. The more he saw, the more he was convinced that a third class baka had attained the legendary status of super saiyan. Once again, the man had bypassed the boundaries of social class and bested an elite. Vegeta wasn't sure if he should feel contempt and jealousy towards the man, or awe and respect. Maybe all.

*****

Goku sent a finishing blow to Burter, sending him crashing to the ground below, unconscious. He then turned his attention to Jeice. The orange man was nearly shaking with anger and disbelief.

"Look what you did to Burter!"

"Just surrender and I'll let you go," completely ignoring what Jeice had said.

"Right, surrender," Jeice said, still in shock. A final glance and Jeice was gone from the battlefield, racing towards his captain.

"Wow, the guy didn't even try and help his friend before shooting off," Goku said, looking at Burter as he lowered himself down to the ground.

"Kakkarot, you fool! He's going to get his captain, and he's a lot stronger than the others! A true saiyan would never have let him get away," Vegeta shouted.

"But Vegeta, we showed you mercy back on Earth…"

"And you'll still live to regret that." Without another word, Vegeta leapt up high into the air at an angle, then came down to land fully on Burter's neck, snapping it. A blast in Recoome's direction finished off the show, leaving nothing but a scorched spot on the rocky ground where the man had been.

"Vegeta! That's enough! They were no longer a threat to anyone! You didn't have to do that!" Goku cried out in anger.

"You're too soft to be a saiyan, Kakkarot. What you should be worrying about is what you're going to do when Jeice comes back with Captain Ginyu." Goku remained silent for a moment, glaring [Author ID1: at Mon Sep 30 18:18:00 2002 ]frowning [Author ID1: at Mon Sep 30 18:18:00 2002 ]at Vegeta, then his expression softened and he let out a sigh.

"Gohan, Krillin, I want you two to go to find the dragonballs and make your wish. Vegeta… will you help me fight Ginyu?" Goku asked, already forgetting his anger at the other saiyan. Vegeta considered him for a second, a funny expression on his face, then it straightened into his trademark smirk.

"Sure, why not?"

Krillin and Gohan flew along silently for a while before either said anything. Both having mixed feelings. Vegeta eyed the purple figure of Captain Ginyu warily. About five feet away stood the solid, confident form of Kakkarot. The prince allowed his gaze to slide over the other's build for a moment, before he suddenly became aware that his hands were becoming slightly moist with sweat. Curiously, he tore his eyes from Kakkarot and looked at a gloved palm, before realizing the futility of the effort. He frowned to himself.

"…right Vegeta?" The prince shot his head up to look into dark pools of liquid onyx. His throat tightened. With a quick clench of his outstretched hand, he forced on a smirk and shot off into the sky.

"Vegeta!" He ignored the call. Kakkarot had been plaguing his thoughts long enough, so he thought nothing.

For a while, he was blindly speeding away before he realized where he was headed.

*Frieza's compound is dead ahead, and since I sense him on the other side of the planet right now… the dragonballs should be relatively unguarded. I may get my wish yet!* The prince smirked triumphantly; maybe something would work out his way for once. Within mere seconds, the circular shape of Frieza's massive ship came into view. Vegeta landed on the top, noticing that no one was hanging around outside, but judging by the scorched spots covering the ground in various areas, a few people had been. The prince paid no apparent attention to this.

He walked up to the large opening on the ship's ceiling, and floated down inside. He landed, walking past a few of Frieza's men, who looked at him with a mixture of shock and fear. As he walked along the corridor, they followed him at a somewhat safer distance, whispering behind him. Each time he passed a room, the group increased its numbers. He ignored them.

When he reached the door he was looking for, he turned to the group, many of the men raising their weapons or charging up energy blasts. Vegeta didn't bat an eye. Instead, with his trademark smirk sliding into place, he powered up a blast of his own, staring down the weaklings before him. It was enough encouragement for them to suddenly change their minds about a fight and run in the opposite direction. His smirk growing a bit wider, he released his blast, allowing it to flow along the corridor after the cowards, followed by a large explosion and the abrupt cessation of ki. A quick check with his senses told him he had gotten them all.

Turning back to the door before him, he operated a small keypad on the outside, causing the barrier to slide open. To his disappointment, he didn't find what he was hoping to. In Frieza's viewing room, where the dragonballs had been before, there was nothing.

"I suppose I should give Frieza more credit than that." Vegeta turned back around, going about a quarter of the distance he came and entered another room, which turned out to be an armory. Inside were built-in storage compartments for side arms and other various weapons, but mostly armor. Vegeta went over and rooted through a few compartments before finding what he wanted.

The foul stench that reached his sensitive smell made him wrinkle his nose. He had chosen the best he could find, a newer model of both a bodysuit and armor, but the rank odor of sweat, blood, and general filth seemed to emanate rather strongly from both. So, pulling off a sigh only capable of aristocrats and royalty, he set about throwing them in a clothes-washing tank and shut the lid. A few swipes across the panel filtered in soap and turned the machine on.

His laundry made him consider his own personal state of cleanliness, and after a brief once-over of himself in the mirror, he resolved to clean himself up as well. He stalked over to a shower, shed his clothes and stepped in. Vegeta adjusted the water temperature to as hot as it would go, letting the pulsating fall to run over his bare skin, instantly relieving some of the tension from his muscles.

That senzu bean had done wonders. The man who had given it to him was a wonder. It escaped the prince how a saiyan could be so soft… yet so powerful. The man was a contradiction in terms.

Vegeta leaned his head back to the spray, grabbing a bar of soap and lathering up. His hair was next, flattened by the water. He closed his eyes and just stood there, enjoying the feel of the waterfall. *Kakkarot…*

The man's image was permanently imprinted on his mind. The battle he had fought against him was his greatest ever, despite the end result. He had never met another fighter who had challenged him in quite the way Kakkarot had. To see him was exciting, it sent the blood pumping through his veins. It made his stomach tingle in anticipation. Then, to fight with the man. When Kakkarot had asked him, he couldn't help but feel light and airy, almost as if he would float off into the sky if the man's intent gaze hadn't held him rooted to the ground. It may have very well been the one to top their previous battle, but… but… Vegeta gave his head a slight shake. He had nearly torn out of there in a blind attempt to get away. He didn't even know why, but he was certain it had to do with Kakkarot. He had been overcome with panic. The man's voice, directly talking to him, had snapped him into those dark, shining eyes. He had instantly given him his undivided attention. He had instantly run away…

Vegeta growled in anger and denial. He did not run from anyone, especially a third class baka! He may not have been able to explain why Kakkarot had such an effect on him, but he did not run. *Of course not… you flew.* The traitorous thought entered his head before he could stop it. Vegeta wasn't happy with the realization that even he was against himself, with also confused him more than he had already been.

Vegeta looked for anything else to occupy his mind, and ended up watching the last of the soap carry away the blood and dirt with it as the water ran it off. Turning off the water, he reached for a towel, beginning to work the cloth over his damp skin. When he was satisfied enough, he wrapped the towel tightly around his waist and went to check on his laundry.

The garments were done. Vegeta dug them out of the tank and found a convenient dryer to put them in. Only a few minutes had passed before the bodysuit was done, the fabric designed to dry fast. He dressed quickly, finding himself clean gloves and boots to go with. Armor tended to take longer.

Vegeta spent the time trying to figure out where the dragonballs could be hidden when he caught sight of his reflection in the mirror. He walked over to it. The face that looked back at him looked annoyed. He snorted, it was a common sight on his face, one having been picked up from his father when he was still a young boy. Brows drawn down, lips slightly pursed with the corners tugging nearly imperceptibly downward.

A spot of dirt reminded him that he had forgot to wash his face. Most of it was rubbed off with the towel, but what remained gave him something to be annoyed about. Removing his gloves, he turned the water on, dipping his hands in and splashing it on his face. He grasped some soap, worked up a lather with his hands, and applied it liberally to his face. A quick rinsing followed by a rubdown from a towel finished the process. He looked into the mirror, turning a corner of his mouth up into a smirk. *I'll be immortal yet.*

A buzz from across the room caught his attention. He walked over to a panel on the wall and pushed a button. The panel rose up to reveal his dried armor. "Finally, these dryers take forever!"

*****

Goku's gaze lingered on the spot where Vegeta had disappeared to, the prince's image long gone. He felt a twinge of sadness… and even rejection. *Of course! The dragonballs!* The thought should've worried him more than it did, the idea of Vegeta gaining immortality, but instead, he felt relieved. Vegeta didn't leave because he didn't want to fight with him, it was because he wanted to get his wish! At least, that's what Goku found himself hoping.

Shaking his head, he turned his attention to the purple alien before him. He was certainly strong, but not nearly strong enough. Goku quickly demonstrated that fact as he powered up and began to fight Captain Ginyu, his thoughts straying elsewhere. Briefly, Jeice intervened to help, but the attack had no effect.

However, the saiyan's attention was quickly snapped back to the battle when Ginuy started laughing. Suddenly, a purple fist drove itself into a purple chest, blood squirting from the wound. Goku watched on in a sort of morbid fascination as Ginyu twisted the fist around before removing it. *Is he insane?*

The next attack form the captain answered his question. The purple alien opened his mouth, shooting a beam as Goku suddenly realized he couldn't move. "Body Switch!" Ginyu yelled.

Goku blinked. Across from him was… himself. That wasn't quite an ordinary occurance. He raised a hand to rub his eyes, and noticed it was purple. Gaping, he looked back at his body, the sound of Ginyu's laughter coming from it. Then, he and Jeice were gone, and Goku found himself having trouble remaining in the air with his …self-inflicted… injuries.

*****

Vegeta had quietly slipped out of the ship when he felt two power levels. It turned out to be the cueball and Kakkarot's brat. He watched them dig up the dragonballs, saw how it didn't work because they didn't have the password, then saw Kakkarot arrive with Jeice. Fate liked to toy him, building him up just to bring him down.

The prince, if asked, would never be able to explain how he knew, but something about the other saiyan was dead wrong. It wasn't just that he was hanging out with Jeice, or how he sounded like he had a sore throat… it was his demeanor, the way he walked, the way he carried himself, yes, even the way he smiled was… off.

It seemed the brat sensed it too. Soon, the boy and his friend were fighting Kakkarot, doing their best to stave him off. To add even more confusion, Ginyu suddenly showed up, a gaping hole in his chest, leaking out blood. Vegeta was beyond words when Kakkarot's voice came from the purple alien.

Listening briefly to the conversation, Vegeta found that Ginyu had somehow switched bodies.

The prince was enraged for unknown reasons. As Ginyu, using Kakkarot's body, squared off against the other three, Vegeta shot forward and attacked Jeice. There were a few shouts of exclamation at his sudden arrival, but they were ignored. He concentrated on the orange man in front of him.

Making a lucky break, Jeice managed to duck inside the ship, and began running at breakneck speed away from the prince, who was seemingly much stronger than from the battle less than an hour ago. It was a perplexing thought. Then, just when Jeice thought he had escaped, Vegeta burst through a wall and pinned him against another.

"I'm about to send you to the next dimension."

"Because you're upset about the guy whose body Ginyu borrowed?" Jeice taunted.

"Why should I care?"

"You seemed scared of him, I mean, you sure acted nervous when he showed up. Breathing funny, staring at him… or maybe it's something other than fear…" the orange alien smirked, specifically at the stunned look on the prince's visage, though this was probably not the brightest move in the world.

The prince's eyes narrowed to near invisible slits of rage at the suggestion, roughly grabbing the alien's neck and twisting. Panicked, Jeice desperately released a blast at his opponent, slightly scorching himself in the process, but shooting up and out of the ship. He was followed.

Jeice looked back long enough to see the blast that had been chasing him, quickly envelope him. This, suffice to say, ruined his day.

Vegeta smirked at his handiwork: the dark cloud of smoke that had at first thrown some charred clumps was beginning to dissipate. He turned his attention to the other fight, and clenched his teeth, charging the body of Kakkarot, which had suffered some damage from the onslaught of the three warriors from Earth. It was soon to suffer more.

*****

Goku watched on with a bit of surprise as Vegeta suddenly took on his body. It was soon apparent that Ginyu wouldn't stand a chance against the might of the saiyan prince. Wincing, he watched as Vegeta tossed his body around like a rag doll, quickly embedding it into the ground. He stared at Vegeta, hovered high above his body, a blast forming from his hands, and Ginyu preparing his own attack. Goku recognized the power increase from the last time. Ginyu was going to switch bodies with Vegeta.

With a set jaw, the Earth-raised saiyan threw himself in between the two fighters as Ginyu released his blast and Vegeta was about to. Luckily, it caught Ginyu by surprise, who couldn't stop his own attack, and ended up switching back.

Goku was relieved and elated to find himself painfully back in his own body. Vegeta had done a number on him. He would have to remember to thank the prince later, despite that he could barely move, and trying brought on an onslaught of agony. He was overjoyed, though. Masochist.

He blithely watched the fight continue between Ginyu and the prince for a little while, noting how Vegeta was toying with his opponent. Abrupt realization that Ginyu wasn't fighting back came when he felt a familiar power increase from the purple man. With a sudden sense of urgency he tried to think of anything to save the prince, when inspiration struck in the form of a passing frog. Grabbing the aquatic creature, he launched it into the air, hoping against hope that it would intersect Ginyu's attack path.

Relief washed over him at the confusion on Vegeta's face as Ginyu and the frog seemed to take on each other's personality. It was over. Team Ginyu was defeated.
