Part 7
A big Thank You to those who have reviewed, especially Lauryn. Thank you for reminding that I started something and I need to find time to finish it.
(I have to put on my rose colored glasses sometimes) Ah, life is grand.
Now here is Part 7….
After the meal, everyone was introduced once again. As Miranda was introduced to Pan, she was asked by the toddler, "Do I call you Grandma too?" "No, that's not really necessary. Besides, I think I younger than your Mom," answers Miranda. "Really?" say Pan with her eyes wide. Then she asked, "Are you going to call Grandpa 'Dad' like my Dad and Uncle Goten do?" "No, I'm not his daughter, I'm his second wife." "Do you love him?" "Well, no." "Then why did you marry him?" "Because if I didn't I wouldn't be here." "Oh!" concludes Pan as her face does the big eyes and mouth. "My Daddy says that when I grow up I'll find someone to marry too. But he said I should only marry someone I love." Then she put her hand to the side of her mouthe like you do when you're telling a secret and it was to her, "I already know whom I'm going to marry when I grow up," she whispers a little too loudly. "Who?" asks Miranda? "Trunks," says Pan, "but don't tell." "Oh no, not a word. Promise," says Miranda as she grins at said teenager.
Then she was introduced to Goten. She was stunned at how much he looked like his father. Their introduction was a "Hi" and "Nice to meet you." Mainly because Goten was at an age where girls were good, but women, pretty women, and actually touching them (even though it was just her hand and not his mom) was something he'd just dreamed about. Miranda was just amazed at how much this son was like the father in so many ways.
After Goten, it was Trunk's turn for introduction. She was stunned, once again, at how much the son looked like the father. Trunks were more confident than Goten with the intro. Though this encounter was just as short as Goten's and just as enlightening.
As some time passed, Goku came up and asked her if she'd like to dance. He was not asking her because he wanted to be close to her but because he thought it might be a way to get some information about her.
"Why did you father treat you like that?" starts Goku. "Like what?" counters Miranda? "Like you are a piece of property, not a person. He was mad because all your suitors were scared of you. He didn't seem to care if you were actually happy." "Oh, well. That's because he doesn't care, he just wanted to get the most money from my suitor for the right to marry me. See where I'm from, the more you give to your bride's parents can mean one of two things. 1) Your truly well off and can provide well for her and your future kids and/or 2) you truly love her and would give all of your possessions just to be with her. I know you don't love me, and I don't expect you too. I also know that you were not expecting to give my father any money, that's why I gave you my winnings, from the tournament, to give to my father," she answers almost out of breath. "You didn't answer my question though. Why doesn't he care about you or your happiness? You're his daughter." "No, I'm not! I mean I am but not. My mother was married to him when another man forced himself on her and I was made. It was their wedding night, if what I was told is true. My mother didn't like talking about it much and I kind of pieced it together over the years. I am not his biological daughter and he's always let me know that, one way or another. I asked my mother if she knew the man's name. She didn't. She said the only thing she remembers about him is he was really tall and had a raspy voice. Oh, he was really strong too. He knocked her husband out with a backhanded slap." She was out of breath again, she never remembers talking so much. "Doesn't sound like you've had a very happy life," states Goku. "I wouldn't know. It's the only life I've had. I have nothing to compare it too." "We'll see if we can change that," says her new husband with the short answers. "I guess." "I'm going to see if ChiChi wants to dance," says Goku like he thinking aloud. "That sounds like a good idea. I don't want her to think I'm trying to take her place," Miranda says sadly. "Hehe, I don't think you could." "I didn't either." They finish the dance and her walked over to ChiChi to ask her to dance. Miranda walked to her seat and sat down. She took a drink and started picking at her food.
Goku and ChiChi were dancing and talking. Bulma had somehow coerced Trunks into dancing with his mother. Vegeta was at the other end of the table, eating. He would glance around every once in a while as if someone was going to sneak up on him.
She finished that plate and walked up to the buffet to refill her plate. She was hoping no one would notice how much she was eating. "You're going to get fat if you keep eating like that," said a voice from behind her. She quickly turned around to answer the voice and managed to dump all the contents of her plate on her questioner. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! You startled me!" shouts Miranda. Gohan wasn't too happy to have so much food all over him. "No, really, I shouldn't have snuck up on you like that," he says to be nice. Videl and Bulma are laughing up a storm at Gohan's predicament. Bulma walks over, "I'll get you a clean shirt." He follows Bulma into the house to change. Miranda cleans up the food that had fallen on the ground. Miranda turns around to once again refill her plate and sits down. "So, can you answer my question?" queries Gohan. "You waited till I sat down, didn't you?" "Yeah, didn't need a repeat. So?" persists Gohan. "So?" Miranda's quickly racking her brain as to what the question was, "Oh, why am I eating so much? Well, I didn't have breakfast," 'or dinner' she mentally adds. "Can I ask you something?" he starts. "You just did," says Miranda while mentally kicking her self for being so flippant. "Huh? No, that wasn't it. I want to know how old you are. Pan said that you said you're probably younger than her mother. You seem to be about my age." "I'm 22 actually." Vegeta all of sudden starts choking on his food but recovers, and mutters an "I'm okay." "Does Dad know how old you are?" "Not that I know of." "Dad's going to freak!" "Why? How old is Goku?" "He's 46, I think." He didn't think to subtract the eight years Goku was dead or add the 1-1 ½ years for the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. "He looks good for his age. I would have guessed he was your age, Gohan. But then, he couldn't have a kid your age then could he?" "No, I guess not." "So Pan's your daughter?" "Yeah, she sure keeps us on our toes." "She sure is a cutie. Her eyes are so dark and pretty. You'd think you could see stars in them." "Yeah, she's my little girl," states Gohan proudly. Miranda suddenly looks like she's deep in thought. Gohan asks, "Did I say something wrong?" "No, not at all." Videl then walked up and asked Gohan to dance with her. "Excuse us," says Gohan. "Yeah, have fun," she says in a cheery voice. Once they're out of sight she looks around to watch everyone.
While she's watching everyone, she fails to see the pair of eyes watching her. These eyes are watching her eat, drink, talk, dance and the way she moves. These eyes want to know what is so special about this girl that Goku would risk his wife's and his own happiness. These eyes want to figure her out before her presence seriously alters anyone's happiness.
Sorry, the update wasn't very timely. It's tax time. Excedrin has become my best friend.
