~~~~~~~~~```` Chapter Miscommunication
Seneca poked through the cabinets and drawls, trying to entertain herself and get accustomed to her surroundings. Trunks was out in the yard, joggling himself on a balance beam at the moment and jumping through hoops and tunnels. It looked like a dog park. But it was helping with his lost abilities. Seneca set the table, lunch was in five minutes and she tried unsuccessfully to stay out of the machines’ way. These little bots were crazy and they cooked everything so damn fast. It was so convenient, but Seneca kind of wanted to cook. Arcadia had always liked her cooking, Trunks couldn’t be that different.
And yet he was. This thought brought her to sit at the table with her head in her hands. He was so different. Even his eyes didn’t have the same shine to them anymore. His hair was so long, and his body was so small. But it was his personality that had drifted farther then any looks. He had changed not only physically but mentally. She had imagined all types of things that could of have happened to him, but she never imagined she’d actually have to deal with one of her greatest fears. She had lost him. And it appeared, he was lost completely. How was she to get him back? Should she give up? Was it a lost cause?
The door opened quickly and Seneca turned to see his eyes already on her but the moment she met his gaze he turned away. “Lunch is ready.” And at the moment fifteen plates were set upon the table one at a time. Trunks sat on the opposite end and instantly started downing all the food he could. “I see your appetite hasn’t changed much.” His blue eyes glared at her but he went back to his meal. Seneca kept talking. “I remember we went to a pie eating competition once with your dad and Goten. All three of you were up for just an hour and all the pies were already gone.” She could see he was trying to ignore her but that didn’t shut her up. “Or the time we went to the fair and all three of you went to every food cart and didn’t leave until they were all empty. Your dad went through so much money, Chi-Chi, your mom made him get a job. Of course that didn’t last long because your dad is really strong and not the brightest of the bunch.”
“Can you stop. Talking while I’m eating?”
“Yeah, sure. I just thought you’d like to know.”
“I don’t. I don’t want to know.”
“Why?”
“Because they are not my memories. Now shut up.”
Her eyes got big at his rudeness and she folded her arms, “Well, excuse me.” She scoffed. “If you had said that in front of your mom, she would have smacked you upside the head. Did you forget your manners as well?”
Trunks tilted his head, swallowing his food, glaring at her, “Apparently.”
“No need to be sarcastic, geez.” She grabbed a few legs of what looked like chicken but certainly didn’t taste like it. She was silent for a moment, debating which story she felt like telling. She laughed when she found the right one, “For your parents twenty-fifth anniversary.” She paused and waited for his aggravated sigh to pass. “We went to Gen-yun. Which is the all star Japanese restaurant. You had made reservations two years in advance but told your mom that your dad had told you too. It was so sweet and Chi-Chi just ate it up. It was me, you, Goten, Gohan, Videl, she was still pregnant, and your mom and dad of course, and we stayed their all night, even after they had closed. We, well I should say you guys ate everything in the restaurant. But you gave the waiter and the cooks a thousand dollar tip, each. They told us we could come back anytime. That was a great night.”
“Are you trying to piss me off?”
“No.”
“Then why do you need to keep talking?”
“I’m a chatter box.” The lift of the brow meant he didn’t understand. “I talk a lot.”
“Well, learn not to.”
“No. I like talking.”
“Not everyone likes to listen.”
“Then don’t, that’s your choice.”
“I am trying to eat.”
“I am too. So if you please, I would like to continue.”
Trunks growled violently, barring his fangs. But the fear that quickly presented itself in her eyes stopped him and his power fell to nothing. He grabbed three plates of food and left. Seneca dropped her head in her hand upon the shut of his bedroom door.
Even though the whole castle was looking for the queen, Vegeta was not. She had disappeared sometime in the morning, though no one really knows when. It was early afternoon, and Vegeta had just finished with his lunch. He would have liked to go and see how Trunks was adapting to his new babysitter but the missing whereabouts of Bulma had kept him in the castle. Half of him didn’t really want to find her. He knew where she was but that didn’t mean he had to tell everyone else. She obviously just wanted to be left alone for awhile and who can blame her. Catching her mate cheating probably wasn’t the best feeling in the world. Vegeta knew about it.
But after lunch, he knew he needed to go and retrieve her. Many people were coming to him with questions he knew not the answers to. All having to deal with equipment and electronics. He may be a genius but Bulma surpassed him when it came to building. Out of obligation he headed to Trunks nursery room. They had made it the same as his old room on old Vegeta-sei. Except instead of a crib for a seven month old, there was a very small bed for a three year old. That was when they had been expecting him back. How hopes made such false dreams.
But Vegeta smirked as he came to the door, it no longer brought sadness and guilt. Now it brought relief and comfort. And soon they would have to redecorate this room to fit a much older child. He entered the password and stepped inside finding her laid out on the very small bed with her face in the pillow. She had been sleeping but since the swosh of the door, her eyes were now wide on him. Bulma sat up, straightening her hair and wiping her face. “What? What’s wrong?”
“You are needed in the tech wing.”
“Oh.” And with that she laid back down and turned over to curl into a tight ball.
“Woman.”
“I really don’t want to hear it, Vegeta. Just go away.” Vegeta sat in the rocking chair, hating that this was the only chair in the room. Bulma sighed and sat up, turning to face him. “I don’t care. Whatever you have to say. I don’t care. I am leaving right after we capture this guy and then we can go our separate ways. I don’t even know why I came back. You seem to have everything under control. And me gone, seemed to have made you happy. And I am glad. I am glad you are finally happy Vegeta. That was what I was hoping for. That was why I left. Too many bad things have happened to us. I should have figured we could never be together like we were before. I guess I was hoping. I should know better by now hope is nothing worth having. Well, you live and learn. Now if you don’t mind I’d like to catch up on some sleep.”
Vegeta’s anger had escalated so fast he forgot his strength and crushed the wood handle bars of the chair. He stood. “If you are quite done insulting me I have but a few words. I did not lay a hand on that half-breed slut. The moment you walked in, I was threatening her life. I have not touched another and will not touch another. And for you to speak to me like that proves you leaving made you completely forget who I am.”
Bulma got to her feet. “Forget about you? I haven’t stopped thinking of you!”
“And you prove that by staying away for six months!”
“I told you why I left!”
“I understood a month. I understood two. But six just meant you wanted to stay away. And now you come back here and make accusations when you know of nothing what has been going on. You know nothing!” Vegeta didn’t stay for her rebuttal, too furious to stop himself from blowing up the door and walking out without another word.
His groans and screams were too much for Seneca to ignore any longer, she knocked softly on his door but when her only answer was a terrified gasp, she entered on her own. The light from the bathroom lit his windowless room, illuminating his sweaty features and contorted face. His head tossed frantically and his hands fought with the blankets covering him. “Trunks.” She whispered softly as she stepped forward, fearing for him.
“Stop it.” He muffled, fighting the blankets as if they were his attackers.
She stayed put however, holding the small invention in her hand, ready to press it incase he felt the need to attack. “Trunks, You gotta wake up now.”
“Leave her alone.”
This peaked her interest and Seneca slowly stepped forward, “Leave who alone.”
“Don’t hurt her.” He bit through clenched teeth.
“Hurt who, Trunks.”
“Senna.”
“It’s me, Trunks. Seneca. I’m here. No ones going to hurt me.”
Tears, and/or sweat rolled down his temples and his lips trembled. “I missed you.”
Seneca sat down on the bed next to him and his body jerked upon her touch and her fingers burned from his heated skin but she stayed where she was. “Wake up, Trunks. I’m right here.”
His head tilted toward her but his eyes refused to open. “I’m sorry.”
Her brows knit in sadness. “For what, baby?”
“I didn’t know.
“What didn’t know?”
“You reminded me of her.”
“Of who?”
His back arched high of the bed but he fought whatever was possessing his mind. His hands fisted the sheets that he ripped out uncontrollably. “Don’t remember. He’s coming. Hide.”
“Trunks!
“He’ll take you too.”
“Wake up!”
Blue eyes snapped open, wide and scared yet tears ran down his temples uncontrolled He gazed up at the ceiling till his sight roamed around the room and landed on her. They grew wide and he grabbed her arms and brought her down on top of him. His arms wrapped tight around her, burying his face in her neck. “You’re here. Oh, Kami, I thought you were dead.. I’m so sorry.” He sobbed so violently Seneca pulled back out of fear.
“Trunks, what wrong?”
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”
“I forgive you.”
“I didn’t know. I didn’t know. I swear it. I swear it.”
“Trunks what’s wrong?” He shook his head crying still brutally as he kissed her. She tried to pull away but his strength was too tight. “Trunks.” But he silence her still, kissing her face and lips, cheeks, and neck. He rolled her over so her back was now on the bed. Even as tears fell from his eyes he held her tight, touching her everywhere he could. And though Seneca wanted to find out what had changed him, she didn’t protested. Her heart had missed him just as much as her body had. Touching his lips again was something that she never thought she would be able to do and now hope was once again restored. Trunks was remembering her and she couldn’t help the happiness that filled her and caused her own tears to fall. Her arms wrapped around him and held him tight, closing her eyes at the sensations she had missed for such a painfully long time.
Maddox entered the baby room looking relieved that she had finally found the missing queen. She sent word through her communicator so everyone could stop worrying. Bulma glanced at her and shook her head with a smile. “I just don’t know anymore.”
“About what?”
“I don’t know.” She giggled quietly but her smile slowly faded. “Tolana was making a move on Vegeta.”
“How so?” Maddox asked while taking a seat.
“She was sitting naked on top of him.”
“And what he doing?”
“I don’t know. He said he was threatening her.”
“Do you believe him?”
“No. Yes. The Vegeta I married, I would say yes. But I don’t this Vegeta anymore.”
“What do you mean?”
“We’ve changed so much. Before we lost Trunks, the first time, we were unbreakable. Nothing was going to destroy our hearts. Vegeta nearly lost everything just to be with me. And I lost everything because I was stupid but I gained a Kingdom. Then we lost Trunks and it broke us. Over and over again. And now here we are twenty years later, and we’re still breaking. What was the point? What was ever the point?”
“Bulma, you know that answer. To be with him. That’s it. To create beautiful children. To make him happy.”
“I never got that opportunity. He’s never been happy.”
“He’s happy now.”
“I’m sure Tolana has something to do with it.”
“Bulma you have no idea what’s been happening do you?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Haven’t you noticed how much weight Vegeta has lost? He looks like a human. While you away, his kingdom has suffered such distance from him. Bardock and Radditz have been running this place. Vegeta never sleeps, doesn’t eat, and doesn’t fight.”
“That’s not what I am seeing.”
“Yes, well you weren’t here for six months.”
“Yea, Vegeta’s already beaten me up for it.”
Her anger was suddenly apparent. Maddox stood and Bulma watched with wide eyes. “Can you blame him? You think it was easy for him to be here? Especially without you? Bulma, Vegeta thinks he killed his son.”
“What?”
“Radditz told me. Vegeta deflected a blast that hit the building. And that scrape metal that went into Trunks’ heart was from that building. Vegeta has been suffering in his guilt for eight months. He started living in solitude long before you left him. How come you can’t see it? You’re back now, Bra’s back now, and he’s eating again. He’s sleeping again. He even went out and challenged everyone in the arena. Everyone else has seen the change in him. It’s not Tolana. It’s you. Open your eyes, Bulma. Nothing has changed between you two. At least not for him. So go talk to him.”
