~~~~~```` Chapter The struggle
Goten watched Bra from a distance. She paced before the ship that would take them all to the moon. Her distress and guilt were attacking her from all angles and Goten tried his hardest not to care. He tried to warn her about him and she got so defensive. She had even stopped talking to him. And now he was right and she had been wrong. Yet satisfaction was still so far away. He hadn’t wanted this to affect her as much as it did. A jealousy filled him. She should be over Kali by now and yet was she really?
Goten didn’t have enough time to get his burns fixed in the Regan tank, his own Sayian healing was enough. The shirt he was wearing was brushing against it, other then that there was no pain. But did Bra seemed worried with this? Not one bit.
A decision had to be made. He’ll go on this mission with her for Trunks but after this. If she still wasn’t over Kali, he was going to go back to earth without her. It somehow didn’t seem fair. No brother and no girlfriend.
Seneca came up behind him. “Hey.”
“Hey.”
“Bra told me what happened. Goten, you know it’s not your fault.”
“Yeah. I know it’s not.” He growled, his anger not directed toward her but toward the situation. “I knew about it and no one wanted to listen. I told Bra and she ignored me.”
“It happens. But you got forgive her.”
“Why? She told me not to worry about him. I thought Trunks was safe. I felt Kali and I did nothing because I trusted her. I should have known. She is still so blinded by her love for him.”
“You have to understand something. Kali was dead to her. So she fell in love with you. And then he came back and she still picked you. She thinks it’s her fault Kali turned evil. She also believes that it’s her fault that Trunks got taken. Don’t be mad at her, okay. She picked you. She will always pick you. But she knew Kali for a long time. Not only did she lose a boyfriend. She lost her best friend. Give her time.”
“I’m tired of giving her time. I gave her six months worth of time. I can’t wait anymore.” Goten brushed past her, stopped only for a moment when Bra caught his eye then continued on into the ship.
Vegeta had Bulma placed in the small bedroom of this small ship. They needed to take off. Everyone that was on this damn ship he wanted to kick off but he had no idea what he was going to be up against. He needed back up. That was the only reason Goten was here. Words could not express how much he hated that half-breed.
Vegeta felt the ship start. He sat in a chair next to the bed, gazing upon his mate. Her face was so pale and her skin dripped with sweat from the fever. He had brought along a doctor to watch over her but he was out with the others at the moment.
He leaned forward, touching her face, her skin nearly burning his fingers. “It is unfair.” He whispered to her. “I get you both back and now I lose you both. Again. I had not thought the gods would make us suffer our whole lives. Not for this long, and not like this.”
“Are you saying,” Bulma lifted her heavy lids and took in deep breath as she turned her tired eyes to Vegeta. “You would have done differently. If you had known?”
“I would have done many things differently.” He admitted. “I would have made you my slave.” Bulma smiled weakly and laughed even more weakly.
“You told a joke.” She looked at him, her eyes filling with tears. “I waited two centuries to see you smile again.”
“I don’t smile.”
“You use to. Softly. Unnoticeably. But for me, you would sometimes smile. I remember how special it made me feel.” Her hand lazily reached up and touched his cheek, but it quickly fell. It took too much energy to keep it up. “You have my notes?” He nodded. “Put them.” Her hand fell on her chest. “I know. I can. Save me. So no worries. Love. Save Trunks. He needs you more. Bring that doctor. He can help. Before I pass out again.” Vegeta quickly went to the door not before hearing her tiny whisper. “I love you.”
Maddox paced the floor of their room in the ship that was heading toward betrayal. She ran her hands through her hair taking quick glances every turn to her baby and to Radditz. Finally unable to keep quiet she stalled and glared at him, “We shouldn’t be doing this. We shouldn’t be here.”
“He is our son.” Radditz growled, barring his ivory fangs as he turned his eyes to his mate. The vibration of his voice sent chills through her, the exact effect he wanted. “You will not betray him.” He warned.
“He has betrayed us.” Maddox straightened her back when he looked away. She stepped closer, her heart beat increasing knowing the dangers she was getting herself into. “Radditz, please. Do not be so blind by your foolish guilt. See that our son is not well. Do not encourage his behavior.” He growled and jerked his body away toward a window. She took it as a good sign and rested a hand on his arm. “I’ve missed him just as much. But this is no longer the son we raised. You must see that.”
He turned to her, full body, intimidating her enough for her to take steps back as he stepped closer, “I see nothing except a traitor.” His height was enough to have her shrink in fear.
“Radditz please.” She whispered hoping to bring out the man that loved her. “I am not the enemy. You feel guilt for Kali’s pain but it is not your fault. We can still set things right. We can grab Trunks and return to our planet and Vegeta will forgive us. But if we continue on, we will be traitors to the throne. The penalty is not worth this--”
“So you wish me to betray my son?” Radditz shoved past her and went to the crib where their child laid asleep. He rested his hands on the bars and stared down at the boy.
Maddox, sensing the change in him slowly came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head against his long thick hair between his shoulder blades. She smiled upon feeling his tail wrap around her thigh. “Remember when Kali was little? He would fight anyone and everyone just to prove his strength. My favorite memory was when he was two and we were at the welcoming celebration of Bra’s birth. Kali got so jealous that no one was paying attention to him he stalked right up to Vegeta and kicked him in the shin.” She felt Radditz lightly and silently laugh.
“Vegeta had grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up.”
She smiled brightly, “Kali continued to kick and punch the air never wanting to appear weak.” It was silent for a moment before she sadly whispered, “I miss that fire.” Radditz sighed heavily. “Now he is so driven by hate.”
“I have to help him, Maddox.”
“And I want you too. But don’t help him self-destruct. The path he is headed for will only cause more pain. Including us.”
“The king is coming. He will know how to fix him. Kali is far too strong and lost for me now.”
She pulled her head back, “Then you haven’t betrayed the throne.”
Radditz turned in her arms and for the first time in many months showed her affection that she craved. He wrapped his arms around her and rested his forehead on hers. “Kali must not know that. Or our lives will be in danger.”
“You really think he would hurt us?”
“Something corrupts him. Goten said something to me and I finally realized it, he is being controlled.”
“By who?”
“By this, Pure King. I don’t how, but he is feeding off of Kali’s anger and pain. I don’t know how I missed it.”
“Do not blame yourself anymore, love. Please. The pain you have been in has been too much for me. Please, forgive yourself.” She looked up at him, catching his black eyes. “I have done so and if Kali was really him, he would have forgiven you too.” Radditz leaned down and took her lips with his.
Pure King Turles entered the small room where Trunks laid still handcuffed to a gurney. “Prince Trunks. We should be landing in ten minutes time.”
“Please. Let me go. I can do you no harm. I don’t know how to fight anymore.”
“Yes, I remember Kali informing me about your absence. How Klooer controlled you. So I take it that I won’t have to explain what this is.” He signaled for Kali to walk in, pushing a cart with a computer on top of it. But to Trunks horror, it wasn’t a normal computer. No, this one was so much worse.
“Please.” Trunks began to beg. This machine had already broken his mind before. It was the tool Klooer had used to keep him completely under the creature’s control. Trunks body shook as fear started to crawl under his skin. He wanted his mother, his father; he wanted anything but to stare upon that screen again. “Please. I’ll do anything just don’t. I don’t want to hurt anyone, please.”
“My goodness, you were really tortured with this. Do not worry, my young prince, I will not use this to hurt you. I will use it to make you understand. Vegeta is the enemy. Not me, young one. So do not fear. I will keep you safe. You must see that. And this is the only way.”
“I’ll do anything you say, please. I’ll fight for you. I just got my memories, please, don’t take them away.”
“I won’t. I promise. You may keep the memories of your mother and of your sister. It is just Vegeta’s memory I will alter. It is the only way for you to fight with me.” Turles nodded to Kali and walked out of the room.
Kali grabbed the wires from the console and began placing them in the proper spots on Trunks head. Trunks struggled but nothing worked, his energy seemed to have evaporated. He looked up to Kali, “Please. If he’s doing it to me, then he used it on you.”
“We are one of a kind, you and I. Do you know that? We are the most powerful half-breeds in the universe. Even my cousin does not compare to how much strength we possess.”
“Kali, Bra would--”
“Vegeta suppresses our power. He is scared of us. Terrified that we will figure out how much potential lies within us, and we will over take him.”
Oh, so many words sounded like Klooer echoing in his head.
“Prince Trunks, we are gods. We must show the universe and our kind that we need to live for their survival. Turles isn’t afraid of us. Turles fights for us. Just us.”
Anger was beginning to topple over his fear. His Sayian instinct were guarding him. “To be his lackeys. Come on, Kali, you have to see it. Turles is using us because he is too weak to beat Vegeta.”
“Yes. He is. But it is because of his genius that we have come so far. We will rule beside him and no one will tell us what we can and cannot have.”
“You’re talking about Bra, again. Aren’t you? Listen, I don’t anything about that. But I’ll help you, Kali. I’ll help.”
“Bra will die. Just like every half-breed out there. And once we take reign over the Empire, we will destroy the humans. So never again will our race be un-pure.” Trunks watched with wide eyes as Kali’s finger moved to the on switch.
