~~~~~~~~``` Chapter The Pure King
Vegeta’s footsteps echoed the hallway and anyone in his path was left desperate for air. His energy was bursting forth, knocking off pictures hung on the walls and statues that were bolted to the floors exploded as he past them. The doors to his throne room were flung off the hinges and smashed to the floor. Before anyone could react, a blast rang out and caught Goten off guard. His body was thrown against the wall, the floor to ceiling windows shatter, and the walls broke in every direction. The dust cleared and Goten’s body fell to the floor. Staring at the ceiling Goten tried to bring air to his lungs but barely any past. A lung collapsed and maybe a few ribs were broken.
Bulma and Bra were pacing with nervousness. The castle went on lockdown and Trunks was nowhere to be found. No soldier would give them any information and their worry was growing by the second. But upon Vegeta running in like this their worst fears were beginning to formulate.
“Goten.” Bra ran to his side, holding his hand and looking over him. “Don’t move, baby. Oh, Vela. You are burned really bad, Goten.” She swung her head away to see her father’s teal eyes glaring over in her direction. “Dad, what are you doing?”
Vegeta ignored her, ignored everyone’s eyes and stood above Goten, glaring down at him. “Why weren’t you with him!” He roared.
Goten coughed up blood, taking in shallow breaths. “We had...a fight.” he gasped.
“So you left him. When you know of the threat!” He went to kick him but Bra lay down on top of him.
“Leave him alone!”
“Bra.”
“Vegeta.” Bulma stepped up. But he didn’t turn to look at her. He just panted with heaviness as his fury strengthened. “What is this about?”
Vegeta kept his attention on the half-breed. “You wanted your moment. And you left him.” Vegeta bit. “Now once again because of you, my son is the hands of my enemy.”
“Trunks was taken, daddy?” Her eyes went to her mother. Bulma’s eyes were wide as she stared at the ground. “By who? How did they get in?”
Vegeta grit his teeth, glaring upon the half-breed that Bra held and then turned to his mate. His rage softened and he dropped his eyes. Shame was slowly overtaking his anger. Her expression asked the question ‘Who was to blame’ and the answer was him. He had allowed his son to go off alone. He had allowed the stupid half-breed to have his dire conversation with the boy. And now….
But he needed not to think of that now. It was Kali that betrayed him and it was Kali that took him. Vegeta allowed his rage to fill him as he looked back up. Her blue eyes were forming tears as she stared at him, waiting for him to tell her anything that would calm her questioning. “Kali took him.” Bulma covered her mouth as her head slowly shook in disbelief. “And Radditz and Maddox were with him.” Her eyes shut and her lips trembled, turning away from everyone. “And I do not know where they went.” Vegeta watched her walk away with nothing to convince her to stay.
Bra stood, leaving Goten to walk over to Vegeta. “No, Daddy. It couldn’t have been. Not Kali.”
He looked down at Bra with nothing to say.
“Sir!” Vegeta turned to the soldier coming through the door. “A message, sir, found in Radditz’s home.”
“Read it.”
“I can’t, sir. It’s in Old Sayian-Di.”
Bulma came back over, her face and eyes red from her tears but she dried them before she questioned, “What does it say?” She tried to suppress her anger but it did no good.
Vegeta took the letter and read aloud. ‘My King. How to explain the reason for my betrayal? My son.. I did many things wrong when raising him. I was responsible for so much of his pain, Bra was right. He did hate me. After his supposed death, I realized this. I received word from an unknown source that he was alive. So I traveled to Section Five. But as clear as the torture that was done to him, I could see the change in him. By the time I realized the man he had become, it was too late to save him. I watched him blow apart, murder, torture, thousands of races. I planned on reporting to you but as I watched him sleep I could not betray my son. His faults are mine. I need to make up for the things I didn’t do. So I will fight beside him. And I will die beside him. The only thing a father can do.’
Bulma refused to hold back her anger. “That son of a bitch! So he steals my son out of fucking guilt! What sense does that make! I want to fucking kill him. I want--” Bulma stopped so suddenly everyone snapped their eyes to her just in time to watch her body hit the ground. Vegeta was at her side.
“She is unconscious.”
“Why? What’s wrong with mom?”
Vegeta refused to answer. This wasn’t something he needed right now. He wanted Bulma with him. He needed her here. And though worry was filling him, he needed to find his son. He knew Bulma would much rather that. After he finds Trunks then will he help Bulma. As much as he hated to do that, he knew he had no choice.
“Take her to the medical bay.” He ordered the soldier. He took for the communications center. There was something about section five he needed to know.
When he stepped into the room however his priorities changed when he spotted Bardock. Why wasn’t that man in chains? Vegeta had him by the neck before he turned around and smashed him up against the wall. “Come to flaunt your betrayal?” He bit through clenched teeth.
“Fifty years of my life and you still question?”
“Don’t give me bullshit. My highest ranking officer and the next most powerful Sayian just took off with my son. Trust no longer sways judgment.”
“I would turn in my own blood if I had known. My allegiance lies with the throne.”
“We will see. Until then that clown Kakarot will be kept in confinement. If one little word displeases me I will have him killed.” Vegeta pushed away from him going over to his main computer and typing in Section Five.
Bardock walked up behind him. “Radditz asked for a ship with authorization from you. How he got a signature, he has his ways. Kali had comrades working with him. Hiko and Junni were watching the front. They are missing. What are you doing?”
“Section Five. Where is that?”
“We don’t have a section five.”
“Anywhere?”
A soldier from the front panels turned around, “Umm. In communications we call our moon section five.”
Section Five was the moon. That didn’t make any sense. Radditz couldn’t have gone there. But it meant something.
“Make contact.” But right upon those words all the computers went blank. “What’s happening?”
Bardock made a quick assessment. “Electricity is working. Everything’s working.” He stated confusingly. Right after the words left his mouth, a big red X began flashing on the screens. “The son of a bitch gave us a virus.” Bardock shoved a soldier out of his seat and began to take control. Only after a few minutes did he come to the conclusion that he couldn’t do it. “Bulma has extensive knowledge, I don’t.”
Vegeta growled. That son of a bitch made her sick on purpose. Kali was making it impossible to find him. “The illness has begun its effect. She passed out. You will have to figure it out without her. Set up my ship. I am going to the moon.”
Trunks grumbled upon awakening. His head was killing him and when he went to touch his forehead, he found his hands were bound. Panic ripped through him, and his eyes instantly shot open, frantically looking around for some information on what had happened. But he found nothing familiar. He dropped his head down on the metal bed and stared at the ceiling. He had been walking away from Goten and that was the last thing he remembered.
Trunks cursed himself for overreacting. If he had just gone straight back to the party he would be with his family right now instead of tied to this bed. He looked down at his bound wrists and tried to yank his hands away but he felt so incredibly weak no matter how hard he pulled it was no where near his normal strength.
“So you are awake.” Trunks snapped his eyes to the doorway where a familiar body stood.
“You were at the party.” Trunks tried to comprehend what all of this meant. “Radditz’s son. Kali.”
“Right you are, young prince.”
“What happened? Where am I? Where’s my father?”
“I’m sure you will see him again. He may be dead, but you will see him.”
“What, What’s going on? What’s happening?”
A voice from the opposite side of the room sounded, “It does not matter, sire. You are here just to be kept safe.”
Trunks gaze turned now at this new man. A mechanical eye zoomed in on him with its red laser. Trunks was bewildered. The man was half machine; both arms and legs were all metal, the left side of his head had been completely rebuilt with the silvery texture. It was frightening to see but yet no matter the difference, he looked Sayian. He looked like Bardock. “Who are you?”
“I was a loyal soldier just like Kali here. And just like Kali, I was done wrong by a very formidable adversary. Your father. So we decided to group together to over take him.”
Trunks eyes rolled all around as he tried to make sense of a situation that scared him. “So what am I for?”
“As I said, you’re here just to be kept safe.”
That response bothered him beyond his understanding. But the anger inside of him that was his Sayian blood forcing his defenses to rise. “You plan to hurt my father?”
“No more then he has hurt us. You may think your father is a great man. Well, he has only brainwashed you into thinking such. We know the truth. We know how much like Klooer he really is.”
Trunks laughed lightly shaking his head. “Oh really? From what I have seen they are complete opposites.”
Kali had decided to respond to this, walking up to the gurney and looking down upon Trunks. “And what do you know about any of it, young Prince. You have been lost for years. We were the ones that suffered because of it. I searched desperately for you along side every Sayian in the empire. My whole life, one big mission: To find the lost prince of Vegeta-sei. The symbol of my freedom.”
“Freedom.” Trunks shook his head, remembering long ago his thoughts of freedom when in the arms of Klooer. “You were no slave.”
“Oh? And how would you know?”
“My father never kept slaves.”
Kali smiled lightly and shook his head. “What is a slave? Better yet, what is a soldier? A Sayian with no will of his own. A Sayian that cannot act upon his will because of fear. A Sayian who must stand back and watch as the very thing he lived for slip out of his grasp because he was unworthy. Oh, I am nothing more then a slave. I devoted my life to the empire, and because I wasn’t of noble blood, I was nothing.”
“My father thought very highly of you. And you go and betray him like this--”
“He betrayed me! Bra was my mate, and he allowed that half-breed cousin of mine to have her.”
Trunks thought for a minute. “Goten?”
“Yes, Goten. A weak, contemptible, human half-breed. Yet, because I was a slave to the empire, I wasn’t allowed to have her. Make sense of that.” Kali growled as he walked out of the room.
The other man came up to him and gazed down upon him, making Trunks very uneasy. “It’s amazing. To see you alive. Bulma must have been overjoyed.”
“You know my mother.”
“Very well, in fact.
“What’s going to happen to them?”
“Well, nothing is fair in war, sire. And it might be hard to understand. That is why you are here. War is no place for you. Try to forget about them. We are your family now. My name is Turles. And I am the new King of the Pure Empire.”
