~~~~~~~```` Chapter Betrayal Within
It’s been four days since the Destroyer blew up the Cold Planet. It would be soon. Vegeta could tell that all of his soldiers knew it too. They were nervous and asking question they would never in their right mind would ask. Calls continued to come in from different sections of the universe, wondering if they had caught the culprit. Or giving suggestions about how to defeat him. It was all pointless. Vegeta knew when and where this creature was going to strike. It would be tonight. At the ball. And that was why he had every soldier at every post. And each ship hanging just outside the border of their atmosphere. There were two ways now to get on the planet, one was to get through the designated entry point where soldiers checked the entire ship before it was allowed entry, or to blast their way in. Either way, the man will show his face tonight.
The moon was almost full. Sayians were more routy then ever, more fights would break out. But there was going to be no tolerance for that. Tonight was his son’s night.
The room was crowded and loud. Over a thousand royals showed up and two hundred of his own Sayians were in the room, staring up at the top of the stairs where Trunks would make his entrance and walk down the two hundred feet long red carpet that led to the dias that awaited him. Bulma sat next to him with a smile on her face and every now and then she glanced his way to wink at him or just to smile. It reminded him once again of their first ball. How she teased him constantly. Bra sat next to her and Goten next to her along with Kakarot. Radditz and his family sat on Vegeta’s side. Now all they waited for was Trunks.
And right on time, the horns sounded and the doors opened and Trunks stepped out and stalled at the top of the steps looking over a kingdom that would soon be his. And boy was he so nervous. His hands shook and he swallowed hard. The gasps sounded and the crowd cheered. He smiled suddenly feeling proud and happy when he saw the eyes of his family gazing up at him. As he stepped down each step the knights that lined the walkway dropped to their knee with a fist upon their heart. It was amazing to be royal. Trunks never remembered any of this in his short life with Klooer. However, memories of walking down an aisle. Bodies swayed all around him, strangled and held with rope. The smell of rotting flesh caught in his nostrils. Blood dripping, making puddles on the concrete. A three-fingered hand smacking each rotting appandange as it past each body.
Vegeta gripped his chair as he saw Trunks stall. His eyes were on the floor and his ki was beginning to gather in strength. What was the boy thinking? What had happened? Murmers started to sound as excitement started to decline. Everyone was staring in confusion. Vegeta mentally chastised himself. It had been too soon. He stood ready to take his son and flee before the boy unleashed the power that was uncontrollable.
But then, those blues reached him again. And the power began to dwindle. And soon, a reassuring, small but very significant smile lighted his features and he continued his journey on the red carpet.
Finally he got to the steps that led up to the throne. He smiled to his father, to his mother and sister, and then, caught the eyes of a stranger. And his smile fell.
Goten caught his eye.
Trunks turned his eyes back to his father, refusing any glance to return to the strange man that was gazing at him with such friendliness. This man knew him. He had been in the forest. And now with the memories of Queen Kana speaking softly in his head, he remember who this man was.
Trunks turned off the light to his memories and slowly dropped to his knees as he was instructed to do so. Vegeta spoke some words that he didn’t really hear as he continued to concentrate on the past. But soon, he felt his crown touch his head and all thoughts ceased. His mother was there hugging him. Safe, he was now. Nothing more could harm him. He took in a deep breath and turned to the audience that awaited his first word. “I am Trunks. The lost Prince of Vegeta-sei.” And the crowd roared.
~~~~~~~`````

So many people waited to just shake his hand, it was intoxicating to know how many people had waited for this moment. It was amazing that so many cared and loved him that didn’t even know him. Yet, as he looked around, it was obvious he was the reason everyone was smiling.

Names and hands passed by him and within twenty minutes he met over a hundred people. And to know that all of these people were apart of his father’s empire was enough for him to be proud and honored. Bulma was excitedly talking into his ear, introducing him to all the ones she liked and remarking very quietly at all the ones she didn’t. Bra was on his other side, putting in her little opinions on people’s dress choices. Laughter was so unfamiliar to him and yet that was all he could do while he was being passed to one person to the next.

And then came Goku who took no time at all to hug him and swing him to side to side like he was some monkey. Trunks laughed nervously and was glad to be put down again, and he finally introduced himself. And Trunks stalled for a moment and took in this man that he had called father for over eighteen years of a life he barely remembered. “We don’t look anything alike.” He stated with a large smile on his face which only made Goku laugh loudly. Instantly, Trunks liked this man. Everything about him was funny and interesting. Nothing in Goku scared him. And that the was first he could honestly say. “Would it be okay, if I came by later? To talk to you more?” Trunks looked back to his mother, “Do you think father would get mad?”

“No, honey, we want you to know everything you want to know.”

Trunks smiled and then looked back at Goku. “So it’ll be alright?”

“It would great.” Goku smiled broadly, “Oh, I got to introduce you to someone. I almost forgot.” Goku grabbed Trunks by the arm and pummeled his way through the crowd until he found Goten who was standing with Seneca on the balcony. And when Trunks saw him, his easy going persona and smile fell from existence. “Trunks, this is Goten. He was your brother. Kind of.”

Brother. How that single word brought anger into his heart. Trunks shook his head and backed away before quickly taking off to go back to his mother and father.

Goten dropped his head, feeling Seneca stroke his arm in sympathy. Goku though throughly upset with his own son for all the lies that had transpired felt sorry for him and placed a hand on his shoulder, “He’ll come around. Give him some time.” Goku left to rejoin the party.

“I told you, Goten. He’s not the same.”

“I can get to him. I just need a few moments alone with him. Get him to listen to me. I’ve dealt with this before, and I got through to him.”

“But with my picture, Goten. And now he can’t even look at me. When he died, he wasn’t brought back whole.”

“I don’t believe that. My father died, twice, and look at him. Arcadia is in there. I just have to find the right words to bring him back.”

Vegeta was so surprised to see that the party went on without incident. According to half hourly reports everything was in complete control. He leaned back in his seat and watched his son and mate dance senselessly to music Bulma had gotten from her home world. They couldn’t stop laughing and smiling, it was almost to the point of annoying but watching them, catching Bulma’s eyes every once in awhile was the most entertaining event.

He started thinking about earlier in the bedroom. How she kissed and touched him in ways he had long to know again. She had cried through the whole thing but it had only been out of happiness, or so she says. Her naked body pressed so close to him, thigh wrapped around his waist as he looked down at her while slowly going in. Groaning at the tightness that surrounded him once more was enough to break him. He actually made noises while he ground himself into her over and over. It wasn’t just a sexually experience. It was mating with her that was so unbelievably satisfying. Being with her, and so close to her and hearing his name on her lips with no other emotion but her human love.

A burden had been lifted off of him and he felt fifty pounds lighter and ten times stronger then he ever had felt before. Just from only fifteen minutes with her. It had been short, which was annoying but tonight and all night was going to make up for it. His family was whole, and there were no other worries to bother him. He could bask in his mate without other burdens. How amazing that felt.

Bra had cut in and was now dancing with Trunks. Bulma was swaying her hips like a natural woman who knew she was sexy, toward him. A smile was on her lips and when she sat down next to him she made a unnoticably touch to his hand. Her little teases that always drove him nuts when they were younger.

She sat exhaustedly in her chair, fixing her crown and hair before sighing out. Bulma looked over to him, “Was he really as bad as he says he was?” Vegeta nodded, looking out to his son. “Did he kill someone?” Again he nodded. “Has he told you, anything he remembers?”

“Being in Klooer’s hands. I’ve been to that planet. Seen it. For him to have seen it, it will never leave him.”

“Nothing before that?”

“No.”

“I think he knows Goten. Goku told me he freaked out when he saw him. So badly he ran away.”

“Trunks had taken Goten and Bra to Klooer’s ship. If he remembered Bra, he remembers something about Goten.”

“Should I talk to him?”

“He needs to figure it out on his own. He cannot be treated as a child, woman. He needs to remember.”

“I’m going to talk to him. Tonight.” She received a look and quickly explained herself, “He needs to know that it’s okay for him to have another family. He might be afraid to remember because he doesn’t want to hurt us.” Vegeta saw her resolve as she gazed at him and knew he could do nothing to change her mind. And she was, maybe, right about it.

“Woman,” he stalled sighing heavily, “I saw the papers.”

Bulma thought about what he was talking of but when she made eye contact she knew. She bit her lip but smiled and shook her head, “I didn’t do it right. That was just one of many things that the woman could have given me. For all I know, it’s nothing because it has about over twelve hours and I have no symptoms of anything. No need to worry.” He didn’t like it but she turned away from him, dismissing the subject as if it was so unimportant. Later, he would worry about it. He would go over the outcomes with her and find out what exactly it was.

Vegeta turned back observing his child as he stopped dancing with Bra to talk with Goku. It made him jealous, which surprised Vegeta. Kakarot had eighteen years with his own child. It was not fair to say the least. Trunks was laughing hysterically which only brought more anger. It wasn’t Kakarot’s turn anymore. It was Vegeta’s to make him laugh and smile and feel protected and cared for. Trunks was his now and as far as he was concerned, Kakarot can take a trip back to the planet he belongs.

Vegeta’s eyes caught Goten who was making his way to Trunks. As much as he hated the half-breed, Trunks needed to remember his past. And as much as he didn’t want to admit it, Goten was the best one to get him to remember. So against better judgment, Vegeta allowed the boy to come to this party.

~~``

Goten found Trunks talking to his father with Bra by his side. He took a deep breath and came up behind Bra giving her a kiss on the cheek and smiling broadly, “This is a hell of a party, Bro.”

Trunks once again quickly changed his jubilant attitude into a defensive, anger demeanor. He backed away from the crowd and lost himself in it. Goten, refusing to give up went after him.

Vegeta watched his son make for a secret exit. He worried but then found Goten right at his heals. The guards beside him went to go after Trunks but Vegeta stalled them. Goten would protect Trunks if need be there was no reason for guards. He just hoped their conversation wouldn’t set Trunks back in his mental progress.

Goten followed Trunks down the secret passage, calling his brother’s name multiple times and continued to be ignored. Finally Goten caught his arm. But Trunks quickly yanked away as he turned to face his follower, “Don’t touch me”

“What is your problem? Why won’t you talk to me?”

“I have nothing to say to you.” Trunks turned to leave but Goten jumped in his path.

“Yet you have so much to say to our father.”

“He’s not my father. Just as you are not my brother.”

Goten was taken aback but the harshness that reflected in every word Trunks spoke. “How could you say that?”

“Quite easily actually.” Trunks went to pass the man again, but Goten shoved him back.

“Listen to me. I don’t know what you think you know, but I tried to get to you as soon as I could, but Vegeta, wouldn’t let me near you. I swear, Arcadia--”

“That is not my name!”

Goten stared wide eyed before raising his hands up in defeat, trying to appear as less defensive as possible “Okay. Okay. But will you hear me out at least?.” Trunks folded his arms, angerily breathing as he stared at this creature. Goten took that as a ‘fine’. “You’re right, I’m not your brother. I’m more. I’m your best friend. For eighteen years we had been best friends, so technically you are my brother. I know everything about you, Trunks. You know everything about me. We did everything together. We lived together, we fought together, we got in trouble together--”

“Then why weren’t you there?” Trunks held many questions that he needed answers. He needed to know about this family that supposedly loved him. He needed to know why no one came to save him.

“Where?”

“Why weren’t you with me?”

Sadness ate away at him as Goten tried to figure out a response, “You ran away. I didn’t leave you, Trunks, you left me.”

“Then why didn’t you come after me? Why didn’t you save me?”

“I didn’t know you were trouble.”

“Didn’t know? Or didn’t care?”

“What are you talking about?”

“I remember you.” Goten’s eyes got wide with that admission. “You were in bed with my sister.” That was blow he hadn’t been rready for. “Tell me, how long were you with my family while I suffered in Klooer’s hands. Never once did it dawn on you that I was in trouble?”

Goten tried to come up with defensive answers, trying even to convince himself, he had had his own reasons for not going after Trunks. But even as the words came out of his mouth, he knew none of his excuses were acceptable. “You never raised you ki. I always kept a track on you. I never felt you were in trouble.”

“I had already lost my memory by then and didn’t know how to use my powers. But Queen Koriday gave me memories of you. Right before she handed me to Klooer, she said you would come for me. I waited, Goten. I waited and you never came. Do you know of the things I’ve done?” Trunks waited, wanting to hear any answer so he could blow Goten away with what had actually happened. He wanted to hurt this brother that hadn’t bothered to save him. “I’ve killed people.” Trunks tears could not be held back as he tried to control his breathing that were attempting sobs for the memories that he held with in. “ I strangled the life out of a child. I’ve taken whores to my bed not knowing I had someone who trusted me and was waiting to marry me. I didn’t know any better. And now I can’t even face myself in the mirror.” Trunks forced a breath, swallowing his sobs and instead forced out anger, “I am not Arcadia anymore. And I can never be. He’s dead. And it’s because of you.” Goten lowered his head in shame as a tear fell down his cheek, “You failed me, Goten.” Goten looked up, sadly wishing for another chance. “You failed me as a brother. And that means I don’t have a brother.” Trunks pushed passed him.

Goten buried his face in his hands to allow his tears to finally come forth. And then he felt something touch him and he snapped up only to find Seneca with her own tears raining down her face and she quickly wrapped him up in her arms.

~~~``
Trunks wanted to get away as quick as possible, caring nothing for surroundings, wishing only he could find a away back to his chambers and call for his mother, a place where he would be safe from all the memories that were trying to be remembered. He was so distracted he didn’t notice a man coming up behind him and stricking a nerve on the back of his neck, instantly rendering him unconscious.
~~~~``

Vegeta felt it. He stood. Eyes staring directly where his son had gone. Trunks ki had been above normal and then went to nothing within a second. He instantly went to that door, shoving all that was in his way, soldiers were coming after him, not knowing what was going on except their king’s ki was exploding, and that usually meant something was dreadfully wrong

He found Goten and Seneca together on their way back. And that sent chills up his spine. “Where’s Trunks?”

“He went that way.” Goten pointed.

Vegeta turned back to soldier, “Shut the planet down.”

“Sir?”

“Shut it down!” Vegeta flew in Trunks direction, and finally got to the exit that let out right under the glass steps of the front of the castle. And there he saw it. A black ship that was already started and ready for liftoff except the door was still open and in the doorway stood Kali, with Trunks in his arms. “What’s the meaning of this!” Vegeta hollared over the roar of the engines as he took slow steps closer.

“You made a terrible mistake, Vegeta! You underestimated me!” Kali shouted and upon his words, Radditz and Maddox came up beside him.

Shocked and overwhelmed he stumbled on his words, barely able to get them out, “Wh-What at are you doing!” He didn’t understand, why was Radditz and Maddox there?

“It’s call revenge, Vegeta. You of all people should be able to tell.”

“Kali!” But the door closed and started to ascend. Vegeta jumped in the air after it but the ship was gone. He stared at the little speck that now held his son. And disbelief consumed him as he fell to the ground on his knees, still staring at the dot in the sky.

Soldiers came out, “Sir, there was disruption in sector four. Ship S-2 and N-8 have been destroyed.” But their voices were so far away he could only hear them mumble. “Sir. Sir, what should we do?” Vegeta dropped his head. He had failed. Failed to protect his son. Again. “King Vegeta. What should we do?”

Anger began to build, betrayal had taken place against him. Betrayal, the only thing worse then death. His Sayian blood began to boil and the strength helped him stand. “Invade Radditz’s dwelling. Bring Bardock to a holding cell along with Kakarot. No one leaves this planet until my son is brought back.”
