Pan was driving in the desert, with Herro looking at the scenery with bordem. They had left Gyan that same morning, and Gyan even had supplied them with some more capsules. Pan looked at Herro, with worry. She had decided not to tell him or Gyan what she saw in the book. She had told him she was crying because she was home-sick. But she had a feeling Herro knew what was in the book, but he didn't press about it.
"We're getting really close now." Herro said out of the blue. Pan turned her head to face him. Then looked ahead, and saw grass started to poke out of the sands. Minutes later, the desert had turned into grass lands. Meadows of gold grass, and red flowers.
"Pretty." Pan whispered, looking at the land-scape. Herro was looking in front of them with a serious face. Pan looked forwared and saw tall trees in the distance. Pan almost mistakned them for buildings. The tall dark trees loomed over the meadow like giant shadows. The grass started to get bigger, the closer they got. And soon, the grass was taller than the car, and they couldn't drive anymore.
Pan stopped the car, and they both got out. Pan put the car back in its capsule, and put it in her backpack. Herro suddenly took her hand and led her into the tall forest of grass. Pan blushed. "W-w-what are you doing!" Pan asked, blushing beet red.
"Don't mistake my motives." Herro spat. "Getting in these grass lands is dangerous. Parring up is our best bet, if we want to make it to the jungle. Although we won't be any safer there."
"Can't we fly over the grass?" Pan asked, not understanding what was so dangerous about the grass.
"No." Herro said simply. Pan was going to ask why, but Herro put a finger to her lips. Herro looked around for a while, then saw a small stone some inchs away from him. Herro picked it up, and crawled some feet away from Pan. Herro looked at her and nodded her to follow. Pan crawled after Herro. Some few minutes of crawling, Pan started to notice how creepy the grass lands was.
Pan didn't see was in front of her and Herro, she felt a presence in the lands besides her and Herro. And she heard somthing move mere feet away from her.
Herro heard this too. When he did, Herro pushed Pan on her back. Herro lied next to her, and put a hand on her mouth to keep her from shouting at him. "Hold your breath, and don't make a sound." Herro whispered in her ear. Pan did so. They heard the same noise again, and it was close. Then they heard a sniffing sound, and growling. Then silence. A whole minute later, they heard it move away from them, then it was gone.
Herro removed his hand from Pans mouth. "What was that?" Pan asked, whispering in his ear.
"That was a Rackatha. There the reason why we can't fly over this place." Herro crawled a few inchs away from Pan. Herro threw the rock, in the tall grass, and many birds came flying out of it. Less than a second later, three large cat like creatures jumped out of the grass. They tried to catch one of the birds with there sharp fangs and claws, and eventualy one of them did get one.
It landed on the grass silently, and began to devourer the bird, while keeping the other monsters away. They were the size of a mountain lion, and there bodys were low to the ground, and there legs streched out, like a lizards. There fur was white, and they had small black stripes on there back. There tails resembled rats, and they had oily black eyes, and another pair on there forheads.
The creature rowred at the other two, revealing three rows of sharp needle like teeth. Pan shivered at the site of them. "Not pretty, arn't they?" Herro asked, quite loudly. Pan turned around and gave him a look of 'shut the hell up!'.
"Don't worry, Rackathas are blood thirsty animals. Everytime they smell blood in the air, all they think about is eating the source, even if its been dead for weeks. They won't even notice us." Herro said standing up. A rackatha jumped right over Herros head, and joined the crowd of predaters. "We should run to the edge of the jungle." Herro said quickly.
Pan and Herro ran as fast as they can, passing Rackatha, after Rackatha along the way. When they got out of the grass, they didn't stop untill they got to the edge of the jungle.
Pan looked back at the grass lands, the Rackatha couldn't be seen, but Pan could still hear them.
"Why did we stop?" pan asked.
"There's no need to keep running. The Rackatha a terrified of the jungle." Herro said looking into the darkness of the jungle.
"Why?" Pan asked looking at Herro.
"Because, the only things that live in there are demons... and ghosts." Herro said a little nervously.
"Ghosts?" Pan asked. "Yeah right." Pan said rolling her eyes. Pan walked up closer to the edge of the trees. "There's no such thing as ghosts." Pan said simply. "Now lets get going." Pan began to step into the jungle.
"No!" Herro yelled.
"What is wrong with-" Pan felt somthing tug on her leg, then give a huge pull. Pan was pulled in. pan screamed. Herro jumped to her, and pulled her out. Pan was thrown on to her back, and when she got up she saw Herro trying to fight off a showdowy hand.
Herro jumped back, and stood next to Pan. The hand melted into the darkness of the jungle again. Herro sat next to Pan, and was panting. Pan looked at Herro, and saw that his face was white as a sheet, and he was sweating.
"Are you alright?" pan asked. Herro got up, and walked to the edge of the jungle again.
"The're a few rules when you go into this place Pan. Rule number one: Stay with me at all times. Rule number two: Do not go into blinding dark places. Rule number three: If a spector grabs you, scream as loud as you can. Rule number four: If you see a corpse or ruins, stay away from them. Got it?" Herro asked. Pan got up, and stood next to him. She nodded. "Good. Now... lets go." Herro said fear showing in his voice.
Pan and Herro began to walk around the jungle, looking for an opening. But Pan head was filled with questions.
'Is... Herro afraid of the jungle? Has he been here before? And if he was, did he see somthing, or did somthing happen to him here?'
Herro stopped in front of a small opening. Herro gathered chi into his palm, and made a small ball of energy. Herro shown the light into the drakness, and the shadows moved away from it, Pan could hear a hissing sound coming from them. "Pan, do you remember rule number three?" Herro asked.
"If a ghost grabs me, scream as loud as I can." Pan repeated. Herro nodded then grabbed her hand, Pan blushed.
"Remember rule number one?" herro asked blushing a little.
"Be with you at all times." Pan repeated blushing.
"Good. Well... let's go." Herro and Pan then entered the dark dephs of the jungle.
