Bulma made her way down the dark corridor towards the tec lab. It really was time that she got back to work, as much as she didn't want to she knew that she had to.
So Vegeta would be gone for a few weeks. She felt like jumping with joy. At long last she could finally get some work done without him interrupting her for sex. Although she couldn't deny that she didn't enjoy him interrupting her so he could get some.
She would have to be completely honest with herself. As much as she hated it she knew she would miss him. The next few weeks would seem like a life time.
"Bulma!" a voice called to her from down the hall.
She turned to see Zarbon making his way down the hall towards her. She smiled at him. Since she had been a child she had always been close to him, he was one of the only people she actually tried to be nice to.
He looked as if he was surprised to see her out in the hall. "Shouldn't you be working?"
Bulma strained to come up with a good lie. "I couldn't concentrate.. so I decided to go for a walk," to be truthful it wasn't an entire lie, it had some truth.
Zarbon nodded. He couldn't blame her for not being able to concentrate, if he had to work with Brolly all day he would want to get out of there as fast as he could. "Look I'd love to stay and chat Bulma but I've got to go."
Bulma nodded. "How come?"
Zarbon gave a look as if he was sort of looking forward to something. "I've got to go on a purge that leaves tonight. I'll be back in a few weeks."
Bulma nodded yet again. He must have been going on the same purge as Vegeta. It would have to be a large one if Freeza was sending his best men.
She watched as he disappeared down the hall. A question came to mind, why did Zarbon enjoy working for Freeza? Was it all the killing and raping, the destruction and end to life. She knew very well that some soldiers got a sick thrill from watching others die, to see their blood seeping out of their dieing bodies.
Sure she had killed before, once or twice with a knife. But she hadn't enjoyed it the way the soldiers did. She could see the excitement in their eyes when ever they blasted a disobedient servant into the next dimension. You could see the way they loved to be the person to end the beings existence. It was as if violence was their life, and they loved every second of it.
On the other hand, killing could be messy, if she wanted anyone dead Zarbon would usually do it for her. Like that time some bitch of a whore insulted her. It would be just her luck that the tec labs were one floor above the soldiers entertainment.
"Strange that it should take six hours for you to go for a walk," a voice echoed behind her.
Bulma spun round to see Brolly leaning up against the wall behind her. Smirk planted on his face as usual. She gritted her teeth. Brolly could be just as good as Vegeta when it came to sneaking up on people. "Brolly you arsehole, can't you bloody hell leave me alone."
Brolly chuckled to himself. The sort of chuckle a person has when they have something they can't wait to say. "I know your up to something Miss Briefs." He pointed to his nose. "I can smell it."
Bulma bit down on her tongue till she could swear it was beginning to draw blood. These were one of the moments when she just wanted to rip Brolly's head off slowly and painfully. If she had a knife there and then, she wouldn't have held back to use it. "If .. you.. dare.. tell.. anyone .. you.. will.. DIE!"
Brolly scoffed at her remark as if it were nothing more than an empty threat. Bulma threatened to kill him every day, he had long learnt to pay no attention to her words. "As if you could give me even the slightest scratch."
Bulma smirked with a psychopathic look in her eye. "Who said I'd kill you."
Brolly scoffed for the second time. Yet again another empty threat. "Oh, but he's going to be gone for a week, that's plenty of time to tell Freeza."
Bulma bit her lower lip. He had a point, a very good point. While Vegeta was gone there was absolutely nothing stoping him from telling Freeza. She smiled and relaxed. "But you have no proof what so ever, who dose Freeza trust most me or you?"
Brolly's smile disappeared, he was unable to come up with a good threatening remark. She was right though, Freeza trusted her more than him. He had spent the last few years slowly gaining the lizards trust, but still her word meant more than his. . "Just you wait, as soon as I have a shred of evidence you'll be the one dieing," he got up off the wall and walked down the corridor.
Bulma watched as he left. So Brolly did know. She cursed herself, how could she have been so foolish to let him find out. But with Vegeta around he wouldn't dare go running off to Freeza. If he did he would be killed on the charge of lying, Freeza would never believe him for a split second without evidence.
She bit her lower lip, the only thing was with Vegeta gone she was vulnerable. If he got even the slightest shred of evidence he wouldn't delay to tell Freeza.
When Brolly was almost out of sight he turned back to face her. "Oh, and I do believe you have a meeting with the lizard himself tonight. You may just want to have a shower," he turned back and continued down the hall.
Bulma hit the palm of her hand against her head. She had completely forgotten. She had to go to some meeting tonight. Freeza mentioned talks about weaponry and armies. It was one of the really boring discussions that could easily put you to sleep.
She turned and made her way back to her room. It looked as if she wouldn't be getting any work done today.

"So Vegeta are you ready for some fun."
Vegeta turned to face Nappa. As always the half witted Saiyan was looking forward to the purge that left in only a few short hours. Normally Vegeta would be thrilled at the chance of getting some experience to increase his power, but due to current events he would rather be doing something else other than killing and mass destruction. "Whatever Nappa."
Nappa narrowed his eyes as he looked at the prince. To be honest he had been acting odd lately. But it wasn't really something he could put his finger on. It was as if the prospect of a purge seemed absolutely boring for him. Ever since Vegeta was young he had always been thrilled at being able to get away from ice-sei and Freeza, what was so different now? "Vegeta what's with you lately?"
Vegeta leaned up against the wall of the corridor and sighed. "Don't you ever get sick of doing the same thing every day?"
He was slightly surprised at Vegeta's question it wasn't the sort of thing the prince would usually ask. He shook his head. "No, even back on Vegeta- sei my daily routine wasn't much different."
Vegeta looked up at the black ceiling out of boredom. Unless your eyes were very sharp it was hard to tell where the wall ended and the ceiling began. "Don't you ever think that your life could be better, that you could somehow be happier if things were different?"
Nappa thought back to his life on Vegeta-sei and nodded. He had a lot going for him there. If his planet had never been destroyed he could have possibly gotten married and started a family. He sighed. "Vegeta things are the way they are, you can never change what happened."
Vegeta knew that Nappa was talking about Vegeta-sei, but he wasn't thinking about his planet. He was thinking about Bulma, what it would be like if she actually loved him instead of hating him spitefully. He could see the way she hated the snow and ice that covered Ice-sei. If he ever killed Freeza he swore he would take her some place nice. Some where she would love, even if she didn't love him
He pictured the perfect place for her. The sky would match the colour of her beautiful blue hair. The ground would be covered in some sort of vegetation instead of deep snow. And there would be flowers, he could tell she liked them from the amount of time she spent in the garden admiring the colourful plants. And most of all it would be warm. A yellow sun that could finally give her a tan and change the colour of her pale skin.
Nappa could see Vegeta was lost in thought. He sighed yet again, the prince had always been strange. He was very different to his father the king. Sure in looks they were the same, but in personality they were miles a part.
* * *
Bulma brushed her hair as she looked into the mirror on her dressing table. When satisfied she put the brush down and looked to the clock on the other side of the room. 8:30. She knew very well that Vegeta would have left by now.
To be honest she wasn't really sure about her feelings for Vegeta. Her heart wasn't something she could easily understand. And as far as she knew did she even have a heart? She gotten though the years of her life by being heartless and cruel. Making her way up the ranks by squashing the competition. She couldn't remember a time when she had actually cared about anyone other than herself. Ok maybe she would care if Zarbon died, the only reason was because he was her oldest friend.
But Vegeta. Every time she heard his name her heart skipped a beat for a reason she couldn't explain. Sure she hated him for what he had done to her. Taken ownership of her without even asking. Just claiming her for him and no other. It wasn't anything any independent woman would like. But then again she had been attracted to him ever since she had gotten that first glimpse of him at the back of the room. He was after all handsome and sexy. Not to mention charming whenever he wasn't pissing her off. And he had that deep seductive voice that would just make her want him to take her at that very moment.
Bulma closed her eyes and thought about it more. Not to mention the fact he was good in bed. And the way she felt safe and warm in his arms when ever he held her. But on the other hand, he was arrogant and selfish. His ego made his head so large it surprised her how he could fit through a door. His constant hobby was pissing her off and driving her completely insane. His dream of killing Freeza ruled his life. And there was the way he expected everything to go his way. Did he honestly expect that if he bonded with her she would instantly love him and bare his child. The answer is no. Did he know anything about her at all? She had only first seen him a week ago. How fast can a relationship move.
Bulma leaned forward and examined her make up close up in the mirror. Even if it was only a meting she couldn't afford to look anything less than perfect. She had learnt since the age of six, that the prettier you look, more of what you want gets done. The two easiest ways of persuasion, strength and beauty. For what she lacked in one department, she made up for in the other.
After close examination, her face had no real imperfection, as always she was beautiful. Not the sort of sexy beautiful, but the pure ice queen sort of beauty. Is that what had attracted Vegeta to her in the first place? Her beauty. Or was it something more, the way he would be breaking the rules to claim her? She knew very well that Vegeta would try and break every rule Freeza had ever written.
She sighed. She didn't know why she even bothered trying to figure Vegeta out. She knew very well that the guy wasn't the sort of person who would freely open up to anyone. For the rest of his life he would most probably keep all emotions and feelings to himself, never showing them to anyone, not even her.
Bulma picked up the brush and brushed her hair one last time before she left the room.
* * *
As she entered the conference room she instantly recognised a few people sitting down at the long wooden table. Most were scientists, the same people she had surpassed before she had even reached adulthood. Oh how she could remember their death glares as she was announced as Freeza's number 1. It must have been one of the most satisfying moments in her career. And what had annoyed them the most at the time was the fact she had only been 14, less than half their ages. The death glares still came, everyone of them wondering how a young woman was better than them.
She took her place next to Freeza as always. It surprised her how he had actually arrived before her for once. The lizard usually tried to show his power by being graciously late every time, the tyrant never once missed a chance to look superior.
When every place at the table was taken Freeza stood up and began the meeting. It was no different to any other she had attended. This one was just as boring as the previous discussions.
After ten minutes of him raving about war Bulma could feel her mind wondering. She glanced down the table to see Brolly down near the far end. You could tell in his eyes that he was just as bored as her. Saiyans had a pretty short attention span.
He noticed her glance and smirked. To be honest his smirk was far worse than Vegeta's. Maybe because he had something against her. He mouthed the words 'you'll be the one dieing'
Bulma growled and turned her attention back at Freeza. Maybe if she could somehow frame Brolly into doing something, Freeza would kill him and all her problems would be solved. That would wipe the smirk off the bastards face for good.
Freeza turned to her. "Can you do it Bulma?"
Bulma's eyes widened, shit she hadn't been listening. If she asked him what he was talking about he wouldn't be too pleased. She nodded, hoping she wasn't agreeing to do something she would regret "I think so."
Freeza nodded and looked back at all those who were sitting in front of him. "Our scientist Miss Briefs has agreed to supply her new weapon on the purge that has just left, dose anyone have anything else to add?"
Bulma let out a sigh of relief, for a second there she thought she could have agreed to something really stupid.
Freeza continued on for another half hour. This time Bulma was paying attention to every word that left his mouth. She didn't want to be caught out again. But as much as she tried her thoughts yet again began to wounder. How long would Vegeta be away for anyway? Two, three weeks, maybe a month. How was she supposed to entertain herself? Without Vegeta around she would have so much free time to do what she saw fit. Come to think of it she would have to finish her weapon right away. After all it was now going to be used in the recent purge.
She sighed as Freeza began talking about his empire and how great it was because of him. For once in her life a question came to mind. What would she do if she didn't work for Freeza? What would she do if she was far away from his empire and ice-sei? Could she lie in bed all day till she felt like getting up. Would she be able to do as she saw fit, choose any career she liked?
For once she could begin to understand why Vegeta wanted Freeza dead so much. It wasn't just the fact that he wanted revenge, but deep down he also wanted freedom. Vegeta didn't like being controlled, and hated having to go purge planets for the tyrant. The Saiyan just wanted to get away, to be able to do as he pleased. After all deep down didn't she secretly want the same thing.
